Diner Reviews
  • "This restaurant is a Dressed up sports bar with decent food."

  • "We went for lunch and it took - without exaggeration - the server 30 minutes to take our lunch order. Upon complaining to the host at the front, it still took her another 5 minutes to reach out table. Officially off the list and won't be coming back."

  • "I'm not from the area, but stopped in because I had a gilt city voucher. Liked the beer taps at the booths, for when you have a large group. Plenty of tv's to keep the boys occupied. The menu catered to those with gluten dietary restrictions, which was great so my boyfriend ordered a g-free beer. Calamari was very good. Kobe burger and turkey burger were great. Definitely go for for the truffle fries."

  • "lunch took a very long time to come out, close to 30 minutes. they were busy, but we never saw or server or had any updates on our meal."

  • "If you are looking for drinks, food, and the ease of socializing while doing all of this, Bull and Bear is a great place to choose. The only down side is that the bathrooms are downstairs (that are very slick!). An upside is that they have a cell phone locker downstairs to charge your phone! Sangria was fantastic!"

  • "I've dined at Bull and Bear many times and the food has always been great. I have to say, though, that the noise level was high this last time. I was with three other people sitting in one of the large booths and we couldn't hear each other. My only other complaint (and I've complained about this before) is that the staff lack energy and appear to be bored with their jobs. I've yet to see any staff smile. "

  • "My daughter and I were going to see The Sound of Music and had brunch here before the show. We both had the Day Trader Sandwich, which would have been better if there was more bacon on there. The menu says Applewood Smoked Bacon - which sounds yummy - but you couldn't taste any bacon. We opened our sandwiches and there might have been one piece on each sandwich! With all that bread and egg - couldn't taste any bacon."

  • "The food was fantastic. I am still dreaming about the truffle oil French fries can't wait to go back! I read several reviews before going mentioning the poor service and all I can say is that the service was top notch. We had 2 delightful servers one was in training and they could not have been more attentive and accommodating. Can't wait to return "

  • "really good bar food, lots of TVs for watching games, free trivia on tuesday nights was super fun to play"

  • "The hostess had an attitude and sat us at a bar top table directly behind another table. Any time a person at the other table moved their chair they bumped into us. We asked to be moved to a different table but the hostess insisted that they were all reserved despite the fact there were several other open tables. She didn't seem to care that we left without eating. "

  • "Great place for lunch. Their club sandwich was outstanding."

  • "We chose to take advantage of the outdoor dining this spring. It was sunny but just a basic patio. The staff was attentive. I'd def recommend to others."

  • "A coworker and I stopped in for lunch...best decision ever! The food was amazing, service was great, and did I mention the food was AMAZING?! The only negative was having to return to work. Will definitely return soon."
    Dined on 4/16/2014
  • "My only complaint about this restaurant is that the servers/hostesses don't smile and appear disinterested in what they are doing. If you don't like your job, find another one. I've eaten at this restaurant on many occasions and have always enjoyed the food."
    Dined on 3/26/2014
  • "My only complaint was how sore my throat was from talking over the noise. I don't think they really need a DJ in what is effectively an upscale pub. All of the food at our table was good and we had all but one of their specialty cocktails. They were delicious, if a little too sweet. Make sure you have a reservation if you aren't going there alone. It was packed on Thursday night, even at 5:30."

  • "This is probably the place I like to eat most often. I go maybe twice a month, it is really good upscale bar food. I have not been disappointed. I just really like it. If your looking for good upscale bar food this is the place. I haven't found better, but I will keep looking. The only thing I will say is they have a table up a stair case next to the furnace. This is not a place for diners. They should just remove that table. The only good thing about it is you get your own 42 inch tv just for you."

  • "What a great place for dinner and drinks! If you're looking for a way to get the energy flowing Bull and Bear is a perfect start. We had planned (there were 8 of us) to have dinner and then move on but this place was so much fun we ended up staying here the whole night! Service was excellent and the scene was too!"

  • "Great food and great service......would definitely recommend!"

  • "Item's on the menu just seem like any corner pub , but what makes this place special is the quality of the items. For example the steak taco's will have the best steak with NO gristle or fat and beautifully furnished. Every food item was a top quality source. A little loud for a business lunch and limited seating but worth it for the food."
    Dined on 2/4/2014
  • "Not too crowded for lunch. Food was good, wait staff attentive. No complaints."

  • "Had my birthday party here last weekend. Was a perfect spot. Food was great. Got a table for 8, there was plenty of room for all of us plus the other people that came. Service was awesome and the night life rocked."
    Dined on 1/25/2014
  • "We were pleasantly surprised to be treated to an array of delectable foods that left us feeling satisfied. It is very loud and more of a bar scene for adults although the food available was on par with food at a high end restaurant."
    Dined on 11/22/2013
  • "The bottomless bloody marys and pop tarts will definitely keep me coming back to brunch at Bull and Bear. They have plenty of TVs and play great music, and I hope to try one of the tap tables next time we go with a group."

  • "There are a lot of upscale bars in River North and this one has some of the best food. Definitely recommended. A different reviewer said a good place to watch a game, and I would agree. Maybe the best thing about this restaurant is the noise level. You can actually talk to the people you are with. Too many bars around here are way too loud during prime dinner hours."

  • "I enjoy my visits to BnB. It's one of the nicer bars that's still casual enough to not feel stuffy but nice enough to entertain a mixed crowd. Staff seems attentive and bar tenders have always been friendly. Probably best to make a table reservation though. Standing room at the bars are not the best."

  • "My friends and I call ourselves The GGs (Golden Girls). We like spots that offer a more casual elegance, meaning an air of sophistication with a certain laid back appeal. This place was perfect. I'm a herbivore, my girls are omnivores, but this place was willingoto go the extra mile to ensure my dietary needs were met and substitutions were made in doing so. Food was very good. Portions were great and shareable. That we did. Management was attentive and service was great."

  • "Burger is great, as are the accompanying truffle fries. Good spot for group boozy brunches."

  • "We stayed in the city for the Thanksgiving holiday and were looking for a place to watch the college football and the blackhawks play for kids (10 & 14). Pleasantly surprised by the food and plan to make this a regular stop."

  • "Good for groups. I took my work team out for lunch and it was a hit for a variety of appetites. We were seated quickly with the reservation (awesome!) and staff were friendly and quick to deliver our drinks & food."

  • "It's a fun atmosphere with a great food menu as well as drink menu. Very diverse group of patrons! And a great place to catch up with friends simply for a drink or for dinner. Would certainly go back"

  • "We had heard good things about Bull & Bear and decided to try it out with another couple. I was excited when OpenTable showed that they only had a 5pm Reservation available on Saturday night thinking, "This place must be good." We showed up and nearly all the tables were open. This remained true until approximately 7pm when the Notre Dame v Michigan game started. Basically it's an upscale sports bar. The food was good...we just moved from NYC area and have been looking for good wings and finally found them. Mixed drink menu was good, but not so girly...more like bourbons and gins, but the guys liked it. They have an outside seating area, but it's close to the El and can be pretty noisy. Overall I'd come back for game day."

  • "Food was good I got a Bison burge and it was phenomenal. Did $30 all you can drink wristband after we worth it"

  • "Good as always. We come here a lot for brunch and it is always good and fresh. The service is always good as well, no complaints."

  • "Had a reservation for 8 to celebrate a business launch. Arrived and they sat us in a booth for 6 with 2 bar stools next to it. No way to actually eat at the table for 2 people. I asked to be moved, but they told me all the larger tables were taken. I felt they should not have accepted the reservation, if they did not have the space available. Food was good, but we won't go back."

  • "I remember coming to bull and bear specifically for the nachos. They were some of the best ones I could find! Now, I'm not sure what to call the sloppy soggy chip pile I got this weekend. I didn't feel too well after eating it, and am upset I need to find a new nacho spot that has a good bar scene. Help!"
    Dined on 7/28/2013
  • "On a Friday during happy hour, this place was bumping with after-work groups, especially at the bar to the rear of the restaurant. The noise level was a bit much for me. The music was loud forcing people at the bar to talk over it. The food was good, but did not meet my expectations — given the price and the buzz around this place. I'd recommend it more as a bar than a restaurant."
    Dined on 7/26/2013
  • "I've been here for dinner and the food is surprisingly good for a bar scene. The brunch is also pretty solid. The best part, of course, is the $20 bottomless mimosas and bloody marys. You can even switch between the two. Hint: get a caraffe for the table. Why not? It's bottomless!"
    Dined on 7/21/2013
  • "For my second time at Bull & Bear, it was a great experience. First time was for drinks with colleagues on a Friday evening--quite crowded, but a well-made gin & tonic and some freakin' delicious nachos made it worth it. Second time was for lunch with a friend--we were in and out in the allotted hour I had, ate some great food (I had the Greek Salad, she had a melt sandwich), and enjoyed the lunchtime ambience. I'd definitely recommend Bull & Bear for a slightly more upscale than casual dining experience!"

  • "I didn't know much about the restaurant before going and I was surprised and shocked at the amazing food and ambience."

  • "We came from out of town to have brunch here for my Bachelorette Party on a Saturday. It was pretty quiet when we arrived, but it got busier later in the afternoon. We each ordered the $20 bottomless mimosas, but were informed that only is for 2 hours. That would have been fine, but everytime our waitress came to our table, we had to ask to have refills. The food was great though, and is a great place for groups with their huge booths and beer taps at the table. Would definitely recommend!"
