  • "Birthday dinner for my wife, we've been trying to get to this restaurant together for over 4 years. Well worth the wait and we arrived early to see the wait staff have a pre-service pow wow. Our server was amazing and the menu tells you to ask alot of questions for selections. She guided us on what to order and what we could share. The Lobster Fried Rice was wonderful and enough for two to share at $21 a bowl. Chucks and ribbons of lobster with saffron and thai basil-wow. We decided on the bento box for dessert-again six selections of thier best-and a birthday sparkler for another great touch."

  • "This is one of my favorite restaurants and again it proved why. The service was phenomenal from the hostess all the through the servers who bought the food out. Scott our waiter was amazing. He has a perfect understanding for the food that is served and is happy to make recommendations that of course lived up to his every description. If you want good food for a special occasion or just because this is definitely the place to go!"

  • "Dear Mr Steven Starr....the food at Buddakan was awesome. However, we may not be so quick to return. My party of 4 spent well over $100 per person....we ordered A LOT of food. But instead of spacing out what could have been an amazing 2-3 hour meal, it became a race to how quickly the servers brought out the food and then how quickly we could eat it or make room on the table. It was not an enjoyable experience I am sad to say."

  • "We were rushed on a Thursday evening, almost late for a performance at Verizon Hall. Our server assured us that he would be able to serve us quickly, and he lived up to his promise. Delivered to us as they were prepared, our entrees were outstanding in every respect, to say the least. I liked mine soo much, I actually woke up craving it the next day. Additionally, the presentation of each plate was functional, and visually pleasing. The service was friendly and welcoming. If it were not for soo many other great restaurants in Philadelpia, I would easily say that I'd never eat anywhere other than Buddakan again! Nevertheless, a permanent impression has been made on my wife and I, and we will certainly be back."

The food is consistently world-class, the dining experience atmospheric; my guests and I have enjoyed dining here many times over the years when we want to "kick it up a notch." The restaurant was full so it already was noisy. The music, both it's style and volume, made it difficult to talk during dinner. There's no dance floor there - play some "listening" music."

  • "A little disappointed with our server. Three of us went to dinner and 2 meals came out together. My meal took an extra 5 minutes or so. In between time, couldn't find our server or anyone else to ask to check on my food. Our server only came to the table to refill drinks, however never asked if we were ok or needed anything. Overall, the experience was good and the food was even better. I would go back in hopes of getting a better server."

  • "Buddakan was recommended by friend as a good restaurant for Asian fusion food and we decided to try it while visiting Philadelphia. We had requested a table on the balcony but were seated next to the bar where it was extremely noisy. We could barely hear ourselves talk or what the waitress was saying! Most of the patrons were young and hip, which we are not. We ordered the dim sum first and the dumplings were good. I ordered the roasted chicken with spring onions and roasted asparagus. The roasted chicken was good but didn't have much sauce. It seemed to be added afterwards rather than cooked with the chicken. My husband ordered the Kung Pao Fish which was tasty but not outstanding. White rice was $3 extra. Not a leisurely meal!"

  • "The decor is fun and cool, except for the chairs, which are creepy (photos of faces staring at you). We had a few excellent items (tuna, mango lassi, and peking duck buns) and a couple that were fine but not really very special - nothing you couldn't get at your local Americanized Chinese take-out. Service was generally good, although it was sometimes hard to hear/understand our server because the restaurant was so loud."

  • "MY EXPERIENCE WAS DYNAMIC !!! There were two in our party, we had Asian Caesar salad, Cantonese egg rolls, aged beef, dungees crab sticky rice and for dessert, dim sum doughnuts with ginger cream and blackberry sauce. Everything was good! There was no complaint with our service!"

  • "Being from NYC I was told by a friend that the food at Philadelphia Buddakan is better than in NY. I have to say I think I agree. The decor is also minimalistic but beautiful. And the service by Michael was amazing. It's great to have a real foodie with a passion for the restaurant tell you about the dishes what goes in them and guide your experience which is what Michael did. The chocoloate bento box is a MUST ORDER. And I'm not ordinarily a dessert person."

  • "Our waiter was way off his game. First, we had to ask for a black napking instead of one being offered; then we had to ask him for it again after the meal was served. They did not clear appetizer plates before bringing the entrees, so the food runner was trying to juggle placement of the dishes and spilled sauce on the floor. As he brought dessert, the waiter dropped one of the donuts and said he would have the chef make another. After 15 minutes, I had to go find him (he was busy chatting with the hostess) and ask for the donut and the bill. A rather disappointing service experience, especially embarrasing as I had three guests with me and had raved about the restaurant."

  • "I just love the Starr restaurants and Buddakan is no different. This was our first visit to the Philadelphia location. Very quiet (it was a monday), quick service, and delicious. The Wasabi filet was buttery and tender. The small Calamari salad was huge and surely enough for 4 people. But my new favorite- the Edamame Dumplings! If you've never been to Buddakan or any of the Starr restaurants, do it! You won't be disappointed!"

  • "The servers were knowledgable and professional, but lacked personality. I don't remember my server's name. That said, the food and drinks were excellent. The edamame dumplings and wasabi mashed potatoes, which everyone recommends, were both good, but the duck breast was exceptionally prepared. My wife loved the Buddhas Cup cocktail. Also, for visitors, it was easy to get a table, and the neighborhood lends itself to post-dinner walks."

  • "Great edamame, and my friend loved her cashew chicken - said it was the best she'd ever had. Also enjoyed the selection of Asian beers. They were great about accommodating vegetarians, but unfortunately the accommodations left off some of the best parts - my veggie fried rice came without the curry foam because it's made with chicken broth, so it tasted like any other veggie fried rice."
