Diner Reviews
  • "Nice restaurant, very good athmosphere and good service. However it felt like a tourist trap, poor food and highly overpriced. The recommended number of dishes is too much and for example our pork was 80% fat instead of meat."

  • "3 years ago we went to Spice Market in the same neighborhood. This place is similar en quit impressive : you don't find places like this in Belgium or maybe Europe. This is wauw! For us (51 en 47 years old) the music is to loud: it is difficult to understand each other. I would definitely ask for a table upstairs or in the middle part. We were placed downstairs in the corner nearby the kitchen doors. If I could choose I wouldn't sit here. The food was excellent en special. The waitress told us (after I asked for it) that 1000 couverts is possible per night. The service is quick en polite like everywhere in NYC. If you are in NYC you definitely need to dine in such a restaurant. Not cheap but quit an experience."

  • "I can now see why Sex and the City chose to film here as it was gorgeous with great food & drinks and a very attentive staff. So happy I came here for dinner with friends before going to a Rangers game at Madison Square Gardens."

  • "This was sort of like a Chinese fusion restaurant, but each dish was extremely excellent. The service was a little slow, but honestly it didn't matter because I was expecting dinner to be an outing, rather than quick. I had plenty of time to talk, the drinks were great. It's a younger spot, for sure. Lots of conversation, lots of dresses. I recommend any noodle dish, and the cod was incredible!"

  • "The restaurant is so beautiful, the ffod is great but the service needs to be improved. The people is not too friendly!!"

  • "The food was spot on, everything was tasty and well-prepared, dishes could have been sent out with better pacing though, felt a bit rushed at times with multiple dishes coming at once."

  • "Loved the decor and the maître 'd was really on the ball, it was a Sunday night but still really busy The food was beautiful especially the pork belly and the coconut foam rice. I could it that everyday very easily, don't know If they have a dress code, but there was a guy wearing a Manchester United shirt, great staff apart from one ill mannered Waitress with blonde hair, didn't care for her at all"

  • "Went to Budakkan for my birthday dinner. I think our experience would have been better if our waitress didn't have an attitude the whole night. I would definitely try this restaurant again because the atmosphere and food are good."

  • "Second time eating here - both times fantastic. Love the concept that everyone shares their meals so you get to try everything. Plus Carrie and Big had their rehearsal dinner at the big table so what more of a recommendation than THAT can you get? Fabulous."

  • "There were 5 of us and we all ordered two dishes each. We had a great variety of food and all items were delicious. The waiter made sure we had enough to go around and we had extra pieces or dishes ordered if there wasn't enough with one order. the ambiance was excellent and a little dark but relaxing. The bar area had loud electronic music however the dining area was just fine. I would recommend this restaurant to families, groups or just couples who want good Asian food."

  • "I've been wanting to try Buddakan forever and finally went with my husband this past weekend. The experience overall was awesome- we arrived a little early and sat at the bar for drinks before dinner. We were seated a little after our reservation time, but were given an awesome table that looked over the downstairs dining area- which is gorgeous!! Our waiter was extremely friendly and gave us recommendations. Our food was out of this world amazing. My husband and I had the deviled tuna and calamari salad as appetizers, the filet of beef and monkfish and udon cold noodles for our entrees. Everything was AMAZING- it definitely lived up to its hype. I highly recommend Buddakan, but make reservations ahead of time."

  • "Goo food, but felt like we just came, ate and left. Did not Get the feeling Of having special night, for that the waitress was too busy serving us so that the next company in line could have our table. Typical fusion Asian food: good taste and display, but did not have the little extra. Overall a disapontment of a highly recommended spot."

  • "Very good ambience. We were sent to the lounge while waiting for the rest of our party and everything there was excellent including the suggested tuna rolls by the server. Later on at dinner time the experience was excellent as well. Me and my friends ( we were all from Brazil) enjoyed a lot the restaurant and will deffinitely come back"

  • "Buddakan is more about the experience less about the food. It's a massive restaurant that is visually impressive. The staff are very attentive and the service is prompt. I'm just not too into the theme places to eat."

  • "Loved it, came here for my 25th birthday with some friends. Great place for a special occasion. The food was amazing, the edamame dumplings are a must. Overall was a great experience, also our waiter was great and recommended some good stuff. only down fall of the night was they forgot about us and we ended up not getting seated until 9:40 when our reservation was for 8:45 so make sure to keep checking if they don't find you!"

  • "I went to Buddakan for my birthday and it was THE best choice! The staff was friendly, checking in to see if we were enjoying ourselves. The waitress was knowledgable of the menu and what was most popular. The wine was good to the last drop and the decor was to die for. I have highly encouraged my friends to go, because I WILL be back. :)"

  • "with such a big place, you might assume food won't be special and service would be sub par. Our meals were fantastic and our server was great as was everyone else. if you want to impress friends from out of town or its a night with a big group, this is the place"

  • "I guess I was not expecting the restaurant to feel as touristy as it was. definitely clubby and crowded in the waiting bar. the check in and host staff were really on point and polite. the food was good quality but did not have any zip or special flavor to make it feel worth all the craziness."

  • "While Buddakan is well-known for the food and ambiance; my recent experience was enhanced by the wonderfully excellent service. Our waiter was the best I have seen in a VERY long time. He described all of the dishes with enthusiasm, and without a hint of having had to do that hundreds of time, which of course he had. Loved the scallion pancakes, in fact, ordered twice. The chocolate mousse/sorbet/peanut dessert was heavenly and beautifully presented. It was a lovely experience yet again."

  • "Visiting New York for a friends 40th this was a must for our SITC mad friend, and we had heard such good views we had to makes sure this was on our 'to do' list. What a fabulous night, from cocktails at the beginning to our amazing selection of oriental inspired dishes we could not have been more impressed with the food, the ambiance and the service. I had worried that this place may be pretentious and cold, but quite the opposite it was friendly and inviting and the staff extremely professional and courteous. Booking 3 weeks before our trip secured a good table at a good dining time, I would suggest booking as this place was packed from the minute we got there to the minute we left. Good for groups, friends, romantics, in fact anyone!!"

  • "The staff is professional. The ambience was nice, even if I didn't get how the art went with the decor. Beautiful lighting that would make Shrek look good. But the food.... the food. I was disappointed. When we were told family style, I thought Carmine's sized servings fit for 3 big/5 normal eaters. "Family style" feeds 2, 3 tops. Then, the actual food wasn't impressive. The crab sticky rice just didn't taste good and the stickiness was something that made it extra chewy. The pork belly was boring, while the pork dumpling yummy- even tho the sauce inside the dumpling scalded my tongue. The chicken was boring. Lobster rice was decent. The fried fish was excellent. The Rock shrimp is almost as good as PF Changs. Classic foofoo NYC dining."

  • "Buddakan was a first time visit and I was really impressed with the food, the wait staff, and the interior space itself.....but i think next time, and there will be a next time soon ....I would prefer to dine in the lounge....wasn't expecting the noise....but still in all very very good"

  • "We have been to Buddakan several times and they never fail to please! We were 7 people and were seated in The Library, which was very quiet. We love tis room and will request it from now on. The food was so delicious! Every dish was excellent. The service was also excellent. While it is expensive, you can't find better Asian inspired food anywhere!,"
