Diner Reviews
  • "We came to buddakan to celebrate my friends 40th birthday. The food was wonderful. Lived up to our expectation. . The only problem was that I organised for a surprise, from Australia prior to us coming to America, and the waiters didn't take note of this on the reservation so the surprise was kind of ruined which was a shame. • "Buddakan has a nice atmosphere and the food is very good. It's pricey but worth it. The Maccallan 18 yr old was a tad too pricey @ $55 a glass however! Sake was very reasonably priced for the quality. Good crowd. Upscale. "

  • "Booked a table here for a Saturday night (our first night in NYC). Our table wasn't quite ready so we were taken to the bar for a drink. The bar was busy and had a good, lively atmosphere. We were taken to our table and found that the whole restaurant had a great atmosphere. Granted it was a Saturday night but it was very lively. Food was fantastic and I would recommend the crab and lobster hotpot. The waiting staff were very helpful and were able to direct use to the best parts of the large menu. Overall, a great experience."

  • "The most delicious meal - we asked our waiter for recommendations and we went with everything he recommended and had a wonderful dinner. The filet of beef just melted in our mouths. Fantastic experience!"

  • "While in town for a bday celebration, we were so glad we made a reservation @ Buddakan. What an experience! The food, service, atmosphere - all tremendous. Believe what you read, and ignore the nay-sayers...this place is worth checking out. It can seem pricey when choosing the # of dishes to order from the seemingly a-la-cart menu, but the waiter was able to guide us as to how many dishes recommended for our size party."

  • "Huge. The place is HUGE. Reminded us a little of Spice Market; very trendy, a crowded bar of who's who.. very dark upstairs and very loud - you'll feel in the way if it's after 8pm. Between the constant thumping of background music and the open-air noise, it's not for those who want a quaint, quiet dinner, but with that said, the food and service was very very good - we sat downstairs behind one of the wall/hallways so the view was obscured somewhat, but it also mitigated the noise. I'm forever blown away by the tuna tartare spring rolls, not only for the flavor but the "how did they make these without cooking the tuna?" aspect. unique and good food with a creative eastern menu; good service too, so everyone should go once..."

  • "We booked for 8pm but arrived a little after 8:15 but this was no issue for Buddakan. Despite the bar being really busy, we were served easily and squeezed onto a table while we waited. Our hostess advised they had a table at 8:30 although not in the main hall which I'd requested. She did offer a table there but there was a half hour wait. The table we were at was squished in between two other couples (which is my only complaint). Our waiter was very attentive and explained the sharing aspect of the food. He gave suggestions and wasn't pushy. The food came quickly and was fresh, hot and tasty. Overall we were really pleased with our experience to Buddakan and would definitely revisit next time we are in NYC!"

  • "We celebrated my mum's birthday at Buddakan. It was an exceptional experience. The waiter was wonderful and the food was outstanding."

  • "The food did not live up to my previous experience. Lemon chicken was just a big piece of fried chicken. Short ribs were sub- par and dry. The best things on the menu were dumplings - pork buns and truffled edamame are superb."

  • "Spent the weekend in NYC. Buddakan was amazing. We sat in in the lower dining area which made all the difference. It was much quieter and a better setting for a good meal. The food and wine were both wonderful, service was right on."

  • "Went to Buddakan with my wife for dinner. The staff was extremely helpful and professional. The atmosphere was very relaxing. The food was top notch. Overall great experience."

  • "Nice restaurant, very good athmosphere and good service. However it felt like a tourist trap, poor food and highly overpriced. The recommended number of dishes is too much and for example our pork was 80% fat instead of meat."

  • "3 years ago we went to Spice Market in the same neighborhood. This place is similar en quit impressive : you don't find places like this in Belgium or maybe Europe. This is wauw! For us (51 en 47 years old) the music is to loud: it is difficult to understand each other. I would definitely ask for a table upstairs or in the middle part. We were placed downstairs in the corner nearby the kitchen doors. If I could choose I wouldn't sit here. The food was excellent en special. The waitress told us (after I asked for it) that 1000 couverts is possible per night. The service is quick en polite like everywhere in NYC. If you are in NYC you definitely need to dine in such a restaurant. Not cheap but quit an experience."

  • "I can now see why Sex and the City chose to film here as it was gorgeous with great food & drinks and a very attentive staff. So happy I came here for dinner with friends before going to a Rangers game at Madison Square Gardens."

  • "This was sort of like a Chinese fusion restaurant, but each dish was extremely excellent. The service was a little slow, but honestly it didn't matter because I was expecting dinner to be an outing, rather than quick. I had plenty of time to talk, the drinks were great. It's a younger spot, for sure. Lots of conversation, lots of dresses. I recommend any noodle dish, and the cod was incredible!"

  • "The food was spot on, everything was tasty and well-prepared, dishes could have been sent out with better pacing though, felt a bit rushed at times with multiple dishes coming at once."

  • "Loved the decor and the maître 'd was really on the ball, it was a Sunday night but still really busy The food was beautiful especially the pork belly and the coconut foam rice. I could it that everyday very easily, don't know If they have a dress code, but there was a guy wearing a Manchester United shirt, great staff apart from one ill mannered Waitress with blonde hair, didn't care for her at all"

  • "Second time eating here - both times fantastic. Love the concept that everyone shares their meals so you get to try everything. Plus Carrie and Big had their rehearsal dinner at the big table so what more of a recommendation than THAT can you get? Fabulous."

  • "There were 5 of us and we all ordered two dishes each. We had a great variety of food and all items were delicious. The waiter made sure we had enough to go around and we had extra pieces or dishes ordered if there wasn't enough with one order. the ambiance was excellent and a little dark but relaxing. The bar area had loud electronic music however the dining area was just fine. I would recommend this restaurant to families, groups or just couples who want good Asian food."

  • "I've been wanting to try Buddakan forever and finally went with my husband this past weekend. The experience overall was awesome- we arrived a little early and sat at the bar for drinks before dinner. We were seated a little after our reservation time, but were given an awesome table that looked over the downstairs dining area- which is gorgeous!! Our waiter was extremely friendly and gave us recommendations. Our food was out of this world amazing. My husband and I had the deviled tuna and calamari salad as appetizers, the filet of beef and monkfish and udon cold noodles for our entrees. Everything was AMAZING- it definitely lived up to its hype. I highly recommend Buddakan, but make reservations ahead of time."
