  • "Our family (a party of 8) celebrated by daughter's birthday last Saturday. The service left a lot of room for improvement. Drinks remained empty after requesting more water and one time he took the glasses away to be refilled and did not come back for 10-15 minutes with the drinks. There was a fly that hovered the table the entire time. One member of the party was displeased with the meat being very over-done and commented to the server. His comment was "What do you want me to do, a song and a dance?" Being from the local area and having gone to the Buckhorn for special occasions and just regular dining for the past 20 years we were disappointed. As a result of this experience it will be a long time until we return."

  • "Went here for an anniversary dinner. Was pleasantly surprised to see that the dinner special Sunday night (not found on website) was a very reasonable $14 for two types of meat, plus sides. The other surprise was that all the very reasonable drink prices found online (on phone) were incorrect. Every drink shown online was $6, but the actual drink prices were more like $9 and up, with only a handful at $8 or below. We were seated immediately and our server was pretty good. The sourdough bread was really nice, the roasted meat was solidly med-rare, and the chicken was properly cooked and still moist. Roasted veggies were very good. Wines were fine, and they had a number of local ones. Creme brulee was nice too, though very rich."

  • "Been here several times for special occasions. Atmosphere is friendly, but can get a little loud sometimes. Service has always been excellent! I recommend trying the Baseball Sirloin. It is amazingly delicious! If you get a man named Rigo as your server then count yourself lucky cuz he is great! Food can be pricey but I feel you get what you pay for. They also serve incredible, warm sourdough bread with your meal. Cannot recommend this restaurant enough! The Buckhorn is amazing!"

  • "Buckhorn continues to please, with a fine wait staff and excellent food. Ordered a sirloin steak "Pittsburg style" and the waiter communicated to the chef who cooked it perfectly. Grilled veggies were perhaps a bit soft, but tasty none-the-less. My wife had the salad with steak: Huge and delicious."

  • "We had dinner with friends on a recent Saturday night. Well prepared food (although the steak for two was medium, not medium rare as requested). Service was very good, with a friendly waitperson. However, it was so loud normal conversation was impossible without shouting. Definately a place for quality steaks, but not a place for relaxing conversation with friends. The tab for the four of us with two glasses of house wine and one cocktail, but no desserts, was $225.00 including tip. Would I recommend this restaurant to a friend? Yes....but with qualifications."

  • "First went here about 5 years ago. First visit was great, the 4 or 5 since have gone down hill every time. The ambiance and service are about the same, but the food wasn't as good. Had the fire roasted artichoke for starters, once a favorite of mine, this one was stringy and tough. Generally the meat (no matter what cut...from rib eye to sirloin) is tough. Maybe they are taking the care they used to as their Buckhorn Grill franchise has expanded. After about 3 visits hoping it would get better, I won't go back any more."

  • "I have heard so much about Buckhorn and how great it was that I thought Father's Day would be a good day to try it out. We ordered their "special" sirloin steak. My husband said he had better but also worse. Mine was so tough I could barely cut it with a knife. Our waiter noticed this and suggested replacing my plate with prime rib because it would not take long to get. Personally I had my heart on a really good steak (we eat a lot of fish/chicken) but said OK because I did not want to eat when my hubby was done. The prime rib was cooked too much and a little too salty but at least it was tender. However, the complimentary desert was delicious."

  • "We celebrated my sister's graduation at the Buckhorn and it was a great experience. We had a three year old with us, which is hard on waitstaff, in my opinion. They were accommodating and even called us on our way home when they discovered we left a stuffed animal at the table. The brochette and the filet were cooked to specification and the mashed potatoes were awesome."

We arrived ten minutes before our reservation time and ended up having to stand outside waiting for an additional thirty minutes. Once we got seated, while the service was good, we felt rushed and as though they were trying to get us thru to seat more people."

  • "From the start, being able to book reservations online, to the reminder email received the day of our dinner, to the timeliness of seating (they had a group party of +/-50 going on at the same time as our dinner), we were treated with the utmost respect and appreciation. We sat in the bar for about 10 minutes, were seated in a beautiful booth, and had an excellent waiter who was there just when you needed him, and did not hover when you didn't. The food was fantastic. I had the wild mushroom soup and the pan grilled halibut special, both of which the waiter recommended. Couldn't have had anything better. He even brought us a large shrimp appetizer on the house for waiting, although I thought the service time was very reasonable."

  • "I had the elk, so I can't really comment on the steaks, but the elk was a bit tough and not that flavorful. My girlfriend and daughter split a combo plate (sirloin fillet, ribs and fried prawns) and it wasn't bad. I did see the 48 oz rib eye and it looked good. Based on what I had I wouldn't only rate it as ok, I've had much better steak and wild game elsewhere. The bar staff and wait staff were excellent, but the front desk group left a lot to be desired."

  • "It's been about 2 years since I last visited the Buckhorn Restaurant in Winters. I had great memories of the food back then. I was excited to finally return for a great dinner. We arrived at opening and were the first ones there. The immediate service was prompt as to be expected being the first ones there. Our order was taken and the bread arrived in a reasonable amount of time. That's the good. We literally sat there for 25 minutes with noting but a few pieces of bread until our soup finally arrived. 30 more minutes go by before our main meals arrived, without a steak knife, waited another 5 minutes for those, food getting cold. Veggies were burnt, Steaks bland tasting. I didn't want to wait any longer for a manager & just left HORRIBLE!!"

After dinner they brought us desert to celebrate our anniversary on the house! We do not live in the area and it is a little pricy but well worth the drive and the price.   • "The Buckhorn is the place for steak in the valley! Getting to the Buckhorn from Sacramento takes time and effort but is well worth it. Steaks are outstanding and the combos blend flavors and textures approaching the ultimate taste. Wait staff members are attentive, courteous and friendly. The décor is bright and not unappealing but "funky" in a nice way. For brevity, it appears very clean and has good food, good service and is not over priced. "

  • "We came for dinner on a Friday night at 7:30. Made reservations on Open Table. Asked for a booth & got one. No problem with reservation. Restaurant was full. Ordered the Rib Eye, medium rare. Was expensive at $40, but a solid steak. Bread & salad were fresh. Alcohol prices were fair. Our server was spectacular. She gave us a free piece of cake for dessert after we told her it was our anniversary. The server was very attentive & had a great personality. I highly recommend the Buckhorn & I have been going there for 15 years. Never had a bad meal or bad service. "

  • "Went here for an anniversary dinner with my boyfriend. I've been here before but this was his first time. We decided on the Steamer Clams for appetizer and I'm so glad we did! The broth was my favorite part of that meal. So good I was just spooning it into my mouth and sopping it up with my bread. For dinner he decided on the bacon wrapped sirloin with fried onion strings and mashed potatoes. His meal was yummy except they put the sirloin on top of the onion strings, making them a bit soggy with the steak juices. I had the 24 oz rib eye with baked potato. BEST steak of my life! Tender all round and cooked to perfection. I'm not a huge steak fan but this steak haunts my dreams, it's that good!"
