  • "Obviously known for its beef which is about all they do well here. Salads and sides couldn't be more boring and tasteless."

  • "My husband and I were celebrating a special occasion at the Buckhorn mid week. When we arrived, we were directed to a table near the door, but they let us choose a booth towards the back instead. We appreciated that and were happy with the new seating. Our waiter was outstanding-he was friendly, he knew both the food and drink menu, and he gave us great service. When he found out that we were celebrating, he brought us a dessert to share. I gave the food four stars instead of five because I thought my prime rib could have been warmer. The soup, bread, salad, and potato were delicious. I would recommend the Buckhorn Red wine to all red wine lovers. No long wait time for drinks or food."

  • "Over the last 30 years we have frequented the Buckhorn probably 2-3 times a year for birthdays and anniversaries. This last trip on a Sunday was not up to par at all. The restaurant lost power soon after we arrived, and I realize that's not their fault, but coupled with no computers, they were horribly understaffed. There was one bartender on duty when we got there, and he was swamped. We were in the back room with 5 other groups of 12 or more (we were 10), and two waitresses handled all of us. I know they had to hand write our orders for the cooks, but we had 6:30 reservations and didn't get our meal until 8:15. Even the salads didn't come until 7:45. As usual the food was still delicious, but the service left a bad taste in our mouths."

  • "We usually reserve trips to the Buckhorn for special occasions. It tends to be a little pricey, but service and food are well worth it. The fact that it is located in rural Winters makes the experience even more enjoyable. The Buckhorn is always a reliable choice for a special dinner. It is suitable for all age groups and I noticed that dogs are welcome on the patio. That's just fun!"

  • "Very good food and service was great.but this is the only reasont to visit winters. I took a date there then drove the short distance to lake berryessa.in late winter the mountains are very green and it was a great scenic drive.so we made a great day od it."

  • "Succulent steaks, even elk meat, all prepared exceptionally to taste. Their desserts are mouth watering, but I'm always so stuffed with dinner, that I get my dessert to go to enjoy later. This is an expensive, high end restaurant, but so worth it! We usually go there for special occasions."

  • "First of all, the ribeye steak was outstanding. the first bite the meat also melted away. we had a great time dinning at the Buckhorn. and our server, David, was very attentive to our needs."

  • "We live in Folsom, an hour's drive from the Buckhorn. We enjoy the drive, usually with another couple, as a nice weekend getaway. Dan was our waiter this time; he is knowledgeable and was great to deal with. Their famous steak dishes are out of this world, and we always bring enough home for at least one more delicious meal. We've been making the trip several times a year for 18 years and we will continue. Try it, you'll like it!"

  • "Buckhorn has always had the ability to produce a great quality meal. Their char-roasted sirloin or "baseball cut" steak is a pleasure. However, our evening was started on a sour note by having to wait 40 minutes past our reservation to get a table ... The Manager's excuse was that there were a number of walk-ins that we're staying too long. After all these years of running a popular restaurant, you would think that they would understand the pressures of a busy Saturday night."

  • "We eat here once a year. It's really fun for a family yearly get together. We all have an hour or so to travel and the fun vibe at the buckhorn and food selection satisfies everyone's taste."

  • "The Buckhorn is a long standing place to go for excellent food. We like going with a group or just us two."

  • "We hadn't been to Buckhorn in several years and were delighted to find that it still held all of the charm and great food we recalled. The pan seared elk was delicious as was the Thursday night special, steak and lobster. We both had baked potatoes which were cooked to perfection--did not seem to be a microwaved spud! The drinks, a margarita and a jack with coke, were fantastic, not watered down as like so many other restaurants. The server was attentive without being overbearing, a great combination."

  • "We eat from their special Sunday value menu due to budget restrictions. It was a very good deal and plenty of good for us as we eat light. We looked at the full menu which we felt was very overpriced . The drinks were overpriced too. $11 wow ! The vegetables as side dishes were the worst we ever had and we are veggie lovers. Artichoke was burnt not very edible. The mixed veggies what little of them were ok but mostly peppers . The waiter was efficient but not very friendly . At one point he was talking to manager and totally ignored us and they were close to our table. Not sure we would go an hour out of our way for this place when we have good places that treat us better at half the cost ."

  • "Our meals were fabulous, the drinks were great and the service was there when you wanted but not bothersome. The meat and fish were prepared exactly as requested."

  • "The food was delicious. I made a reservation online and our table was ready when we arrived...no waiting! However, we did stop off at the bar first to get a drink and then went to the dinning area (so actually we were a few minutes late) but the table was ready for us. I got the buckhorn combo and the food was soooo good! I really enjoyed it. My father got the 10oz filet mignon and he thought It was very good. We had such a nice time and our waiter was so nice and know the menu well. I would highly recommend this place!!!"

  • "Great restaurant. Perfect for groups large or small. Not terribly romantic but it is kid friendly. Food is fantastic. Meat is always well cooked and vegetables are also never overcooked (where many other restaurants seem to fail). Desserts are HUGE. Service sometimes gets a little slow on busy nights (Saturday) but the wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Never had a bad meal here."

  • "Food was great as usual and the service was excellent. We had a party of 8 and everyone was impressed. 2 of the couples had never been, one couple hadn't been there for a long time, and we were there in December. Everyone wants to go back."

  • "We've been going to the Buckhorn in Winters for decades. It never disappoints. The atmosphere is beautiful, the wait staff is always well versed on the menu and very friendly. The food is excellent. Their house dressing is excellent. It's always a memorable experience. I highly recommend it if you want a special evening out and great food."

  • "I have reviewed the Buckhorn before for you, and my only observations are still the same. First, the salads are not up to the rest of the food. There should be options (at least three) and more care must be taken with shopping and preparation. I think they use greens out of a plastic bag from Safeway. And prepared (bottled) dressings. The other problem is that the service, while fairly quick and certainly friendly, is spotty. At our last visit the server had trouble getting excess settings of the table and it became a Marx Brothers epic with eight arms (ours and hers) flailing about."

  • "The place was hopping when we got there. Fortunately we had a reservation so we're taking right into our table. We all had a fabulous meals. The garlic mashed potatoes were great! Dinner included in mixed vegetables, of which the mushrooms were delicious. The meat was cooked exactly as we all requested. The sauce is on the meat really made the dish. We will be back."

  • "If you've never been to the Buckhorn and you like steak, don't think, just go. Everything is great from the fresh bread to the salads and soups but especially their steaks. The cozy atmosphere and awesome service is well worth the drive to Winters."

  • "Thank you Robert, our waiter. My wife and I had a great time and we made it to The Palms in plenty of time to see the show. Your Staff and Buckhorn were, as always, very kind and attentive, starting from the moment we walked in and were greeted by the Hostess(es) on to the bus sets that wished us a good evening on the way out. I've been in the restaurant business myself for over 30 years, I hope the staff knows how good they all were. Thank you again for a great evening"

  • "I always come here for my birthday for a great steak. Had their bone-in New York strip and it was outstanding. My young daughter had their bbq ribs - she brought home leftovers but she finished them as soon as we got home. Also, best sourdough bread outside San Francisco!"

  • "I love this restaurent. The ambience and food are consistantly amazing. On this visit however a Sr. member of our corporate team was less than impressed when our server was unable to be flexible when it came to the pricing of some wine. You see, the preferred choice that was selected was unavaible on that evening. A more expensive selection was chosen. Our server was asked if there was any consolation in price due to the fact that the preferred selection was not available. The answer came back very quickly as a no. Two bottles of the second selection were pruchased and dinner was appreciated. What surprised me was that even though our server sensed the tension over that situation there was no attempt to offer any other consolation."

  • "This was s restaurant recommended to us for great steaks. The Taylor steak I had was a thick piece of sirloin wrapped in applewood smoked bacon and was cooked perfectly medium rare. My husband's elk steaks were served in a Jack Daniels sauce which were delicious with or without the sauce. Our server really knew the menu, was very attentive without being obtrusive and made some great suggestions as to wines and appetizers. It was a Tuesday night and the restaurant was full and very busy, but we never had to wait long for our service. The place was very clean and we will definitely return the next time we are in the area. Great food, great service, great experience for the money."

  • "We like to bike out to Buckhorn on Sunday afternoons for their family feast. It easily feeds 5-6 or overfeeds 4 hungry bikers. The service is great, though we did have to wait about 15 or so minutes after our reservation time."

  • "We keep going back. they are really good. We ordered the Tomahawk which was divine as always. They had their Tomato bisque soup back that night too which we were really excited about. Good food and service every time."

  • "The Buckhorn has great food. But lately, they appear to be rushing to fill order instead of the well-cooked meals that I was use to. I always order my beef "well-done". The last two times my beef came to me medium rare and I had to send it back. it is frustrating because my group wouldn't eat until my food was returned. Great manners but it put a damper on the dining experience. The waiters and the waitresses are wonderful and very helpful."

  • "Our waiter was outstanding. The food was great, as usual. We had a reservation but had a little bit of a wait. That would be my only complaint as I was hungry. Overall, thank you for making our night special."

  • "We had heard how great the steaks were and this looked to be a great evening. The presentation was good, but the food was not something I would consider outstanding. Neither myself, nor my wife were impressed. The tast was ok, but not memorable. Wouldn't recommend this for a romantic getaway either. There isn't a quiet place to sit and only limited seats without exposure to the a door."
