Diner Reviews
  • "Always a reliable, well prepared meal served with panache. One of our favorites for a special occasion."

  • "We went for my wife's birthday and found the experience to be worthy of the restaurant's reputation. We were greeted warmly, our server was knowledgeable, efficient, friendly, and he went out of his way to make sure our needs were met. Everything we ordered exceeded our expectations and it was a rare treat to be in an atmosphere that was quiet and elegant."

  • "We were celebrating two birthdays and the experience was amazing as usually. We come to Buckheads for special occasions and business visits. The service, food, and atmosphere is always amazing!"

  • "After sending my steak back twice and being disregarded, I decided to call it a night. Me and my wife decided to spend our Anniverary Dinner at a different Restaurant in Richmond. Will not dine at Buckhead's again. (Hondo's and Bookbinders are awesome choices)"

  • "A beautiful dining experience including hot expertly prepared food. The dining room was filled with conversation among surrounding tables yet quiet enough to engage in a personal conversation without talking above the other customers. An evening to remember. The service was very professional. The best my wife and I have been subjected to in Richmond."

  • "We really had a great time dining in at Buckheads Richmond. The staff was very friendly and our waiter was awesome. He made sure we had everything we needed at all times. The food was out of this world and I am excited to say we will be definitely dining again, most likely very soon."

  • "Love Buckheads and, but last night was not a good experience. The waiter was not personable, overweight, and was unkempt. The special appetizer was seared scallops which I wanted as an entree and the waiter said I could. When my entree arrived there were three scallops rather than the 6 the waiter promised. I asked why and he said he was confused--that he hadn't realized I wanted two appetizers and that he could bring me another one! I told him it was fine. The other service was slow and we had to ask for things such as butter and salt & pepper. The other entrees were delicious--as always, and the other staff members were gracious and helpful. We will go back, but hope our next experience is the same as our past visits."

  • "My husband and I ate here with some friends we hadn't seen in a while. The wait staff was proficient and courteous and knowledgeable of the menu. The food was amazing, but the potato cake was not so world famous though; it was just a potato cake. The vegetables were extremely fresh and the steaks were definitely worth the money. I absolutely plan to go back."

  • "our first time here....beats Shula's, Flemings, Ruths Chris, etc. The filet mignon with crab on top special was the perfect combo.....great suggestion from the waiter. Awesome! We will be back soon and have already started telling all our friends!"

  • "The food and waiter were fine. However, it took over two hours, which was too long. The table behind us had a group of young intoxicated individuals whose antics over-shadowed our conversation."

  • "The food was great and the atmosphere is very relaxing. Our waiter seemed bored (to the point of being annoyed ...while still being polite) and the service was slow (from beginning to end 3+ hours - which was fine for visiting and enjoying the good food); the waiter was polite, but indifferent and absent between delivery of various courses; the only part of the meal that was lacking was the salad which looked and tasted premade and sitting for a while - nothing exciting -- also contained mushrooms which I had told the waiter I was very allergic to at the beginning of our order"

  • "This restaurant would receive a 10 star rating if you had one. The service level from the hostess to the busboy was fantastic. The wine list is amazing and the food was unbeatable."

  • "For a much better experience, head to Fleming's or Ruth's Chris. The wait staff was unfriendly and delayed (took 10 minutes to present us with a menu). The hostess sat us in a weird back room near the kitchen. I felt like it was 1962, if you know what I mean. I would not recommend this place. I was quite disappointed. It's an "old" Richmond gem, and I can understand why."

  • "The Food was great!! Our steak you could cut with a butter knife! Our server was terrific, nice, and attentive! We were a little surprised at how expensive the meal was, We had surf and turf and that alone was 148$ However we had a gift card so we weren't totally devastated! LOL However, our bill at final 167$ and we didn't even have a glass of wine was a little sad."

  • "They have great steaks and offer wonderful specials too. The service was good. I had a problem with my steak but the server and manager was very quick to fix the problem. I was celebrating my birthday and I got to pick a dessert on the house."

  • "As always the food was excellent and the service was attentive and professional. I have eaten here many times for business but this was for my anniversary. A perfect place for business or pleasure."

  • "Buckheads remains our favorite steak house. It is quiet, serenely elegant, offers great food (centered on the steak crowd) and has one of the best wine lists around. And as great as the wine list is, it also allows me to bring my own wine ($25 corkage fee), so I bring some of the best from my wine cellar."

  • "Thank you to the management, server and host staff for such an amazing, intimate, award worthy evening for my husband and I. You have set the bar high for us, and we are just trying to come up with MORE special occasions to warrant our return! Thank you again!"

  • "Buckhead's if easily my favorite restaurant. The menu is limited; but what they do, they do well! The steaks are always cooked perfectly, the seasonal veggies are incredible, and the family-style side dishes are just fantastic. The dessert menu looks phenomenal, but I have never had the opportunity to order from it. The service at Buckhead's is just as lovely. This restaurant offers everything you expect from a high class steakhouse. A fair warning though: you will pay for the luxury here, with entrees between $35-50 per plate."

  • "My fiancée and I came to Buckheads to celebrate 10 years together. From the moment we walked in the staff made us feel welcome and appreciated. I have to admit, I am very selective about the beef I eat. The filet was the best I have ever had, cooked to perfection, flavorful, and fork tender. While Buckheads may be a bit more expensive than other steak restaurants, they make Schula's look/taste like fast food. My friends recommended this restaurant and they were right, service, atmosphere, and food are all wonderful. The next day I asked my fiancée what he wanted for dinner and he said "a glass of wine so I can relive last night's dinner." We will certainly consider Buckheads first when selecting a location for a special dinner."

  • "We had reservations and they took us at the correct time. However it was one and one-half hours later before we got our food. I ordered prime rib (which I assume was already cooked) and my wife got filet mignon and that didn't take long to cook that. My wife enjoyed her food but mine had no taste to it and it was served cold. I definitely would not got back. When we left there were open tables and people were standing at the front of the restaurant waiting to be seated and no one was taking care of them."

  • "Simply put...we were extremely pleased with all aspects of our experience! Outstanding wine list! Great food! Great service! We even had the opportunity to meet the owner who was simply wonderful. Our waiter recommended the calamari to start and a glass of there house wine...both were outstanding! We ordered a filet and lobster tail to share...while both were delightful the filet was ages to perfection and melt in your mouth delicious! Our waiter then surprised us with a solid chocolate dessert that was to die for! We have lived in the area for a while and not sure why we had never tried this "Old Richmond" gem out before...we will return many times over!"

  • "I was impressed to find such a nice restaurant in a strip mall. As a restauranteur and restaurant consultant I understand how important reviews like these are. Everything was great but I felt this place has the potential to be extraordinary. The seasonings used on their scallop special and the julienne vegetables was outstanding. I ordered the Cowboy cut rib-eye. The meat was cooked to perfection however I felt the meat was not carefully picked. The meat was way to lean and over cleaned. I would definitely give this place another shot but feel the main entree item needs to be perfect! Otherwise the staff was friendly and the atmosphere was perfect."

  • "My only comment is that they did not have all items listed on the menu available, i.e. I ordered the double thick pork chop and they did not have any so I had to switch to a steak."
    Dined on 2/9/2014
  • "Everything was above average. Service was excellent. The bill was a little less than the comparable steak houses that serve prime beef. Good restaurant. No complaints."

  • "While staying over for a business meeting at a local hotel, Buckheads was recommended. The hotel shuttled bus took us there as a service. They were unable to pick us up after dinner. The bar area was lively and the drinks were well-made. I have had better attention from a bartender; however, it was average. The waiter provided OUTSTANDING service. The food was OUTSTANDING. The night was great until it was time to go. We had to wait for approximately 30-45 minutes or longer for a taxi. I realized that the restaurant was located in an area where there is very little traffic. We were unable to reach the taxi company provided by the hotel. This was not the fault of Buckheads. Make arrangements to return to the hotel prior to dinner."

  • "Our party arrived together and was immediately greeted and seated. Our waiter came over and greeted us, told us the specials and took our drink and appetizer orders The scallop appetizer was amazing.I had the crab cakes, which were to die for!! We never had to wait for water to be refilled nor to have empty plates removed. Everyone said the steaks were outstanding and another person had the salmon, which was evenly delicious I must say all in all, this was one of the best dinners, food as well as service, that we have had.Key lime pie and cheesecake was delicious as well! We dine out very frequently, and our friends trust our opinions, so we will be recommending this place to all our friends and family! Thanks for a wonderful experience!"

  • "We needed a great place to celebrate my aunt and uncles 89th birthdays. The year before we tried one of the big name chain steak houses and were very disappointed. Based on reviews on yelp and opentable we chose Buckheads and it was fantastic. It was far superior in every aspect to the other place in shockhoe slip. The fried oyster appetizer was the best fried oysters we have ever had and nicely plated on the half shell. My aunt loves crab and really enjoyed the lump crab cocktail. And the rib eyes were perfect. It could not have been better."

  • "My wife and I were there to celebrate my birthday. Sunday night is tough for finding a nice restaurant. So many are closed. The service was excellent, and the food was very good, although not quite up to what I would expect from a Ruth's Chris for similar. Again, I think that probably had more to do with the day than anything else. Most places that are open give their A team the night off. Our server did a great job and his wine recommendation was spot on. Regardless, though not an out of the park grand slam, it was a really solid in field double with the bases loaded. I will go back and would recommend it. And the wine list is pretty extensive."

  • "Buckhead's seems to be a throwback to the "Old Richmond" era, but the food is always exceptional. We celebrated our anniversary on a Saturday evening. We had reservations and we were seated immediately. Service was attentive. This was our third time at Buckhead's because my husband loves their beef. We started with a calamari appetizer and it was a little too salty. My husband's filet was excellent. I had one of the specials, filet medallions with crab meat and bernaise sauce, and it was outstanding. We appreciated the fact that the entree price, while a bit high, is all inclusive. We were impressed with their extensive wine list. Buckhead's is definitely our go-to restaurant for special occasions."

  • "I wanted to surprise my date with a very nice dinner and that EXACTLY what we received. This restaurant as everything I had heard and read and more. Service was excellent. Food was outstanding. I would recommend this place to anyone. Hands down"

  • "My wife and I ordered different appitizers, entree's, drinks, and sides - hoping to sample a little bit of several things. I had lobster bisque, a 14-oz ribeye strake (cooked rare), mixed veggies, and paired with a Califoria Grenache, all of which were prepared exactly the way I like. Delicious of course! My wife had seared scallops, grilled mahi, veggies, and champaign - all of which was also delicious! An excellent dinning experience was topped off when we greeted Congressman Eric Cantor, who was leaving with his entourage at the same time. We all shook hands and bade best wishes, which my wife is still talking about :-) We highly recommend Buckhead's Restaurant for great food, excellent romantic dining, and excellent service."

  • "Buckhead's consistently serves the best steaks in Richmond. Great service and wonderful ambience. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal for any occasion. We have been dining here for years and the food is always great."

  • "Overpriced, service was mediocre especially for the money we spent, and the food was not impressive, just bland. Now I know why I haven't been back in eight years."

  • "we really enjoyed the setting and the food was delicious. The portions were also nice. We were stuffed."

  • "Buckheads was a great choice for a Christmas dinner with an old friend. It has been a couple of years since my last visit, with my husband, to celebrate my birthday. The steaks we had this time were as perfect as last, as was all of the food. What I appreciated most, however, was the wait staff's professionalism and sensitivity to our timing. We wanted to visit over cocktails before beginning to look at the menu, and yet our waiter was there at the moment we were ready, and as needed throughout our dinner. Such a great dining experience for us! It will not be as long between my visits to Buckheads."

  • "Great dinner and dining experience! Perfect night."

  • "I have been dining at Buckhead's once or twice a year for more than a decade. I consider it in a class with high end dining establishments such as Ruth's Chris, Fleming's, Old Original Bookbinder's, etc. However, it is not a chain and I believe that gives it a bit of an edge over the others. Add to that, it's a bit less pricey (thought not a bargain) than the others. And your entree comes with sides and salad at no extra charge. Buckhead's has outstanding beef dishes and a modest selection of fish/seafood dishes. Appetizers are tasty and in some cases unique. I love this place and recommend it to anyone for a special occasion."
