  • Catering: Set with high top tables and bar seating, Bub City's semi-private Whiskey Bar is perfect for a cocktail reception (up to 40 guests) and with the added Corral, accommodates 60. A word from Bub City
RJ, Jerrod and Molly, in conjunction with partners chef Doug Psaltis and mixologist Paul McGee, have created their own destination for country music lovers to enjoy a cocktail, grab a bite and have some fun.

Chef Psaltis created Bub City’s new menu with a focus on authentic barbecue. Signature items include Burnt Ends, Baby Back Ribs, Carolina Style Pulled Pork and 18 hr. Beef Brisket. Large groups can enjoy the “Whole Pork Picnic” featuring Slow-Smoked Pork Shoulder served with four sides.

Nationally-acclaimed mixologist and partner Paul McGee has brought innovation to the cocktail menu at Bub City. McGee spent months finding a collection of whiskey, and now Bub City boasts a bar offering more than 125 selections.

  • "I have been to Bub City a few times and I enjoy myself each time. The food is great and if you like live music you can't beat this place! I love the giddy up fries- it is a meal in itself. Our waitress was super nice, food came out fast, drink refills were a little on the slow side (but it was crowded). I was there during dueling pianos (every Wednesday), they guys playing are fun and joke around a lot and will play any request. I definitely recommend trying Bub City."

  • "This was our 3rd visit to Bub City. The chicken was moist and good. The sliced brisket was good. What they called "Texas Toast" was just a piece of thickly cut bread. It did not reach the level of satisfaction of our previous visits."

  • "Been waiting to try this restaurant and I'm glad I finally did. We had the giddy up fries to start and those were so good. I ended up having the baby back rib mac and cheese and it was delicious. I would definitely recommend this dish to anyone who loves mac and cheese with a little kick. I also had the spoonbread which was their version of cornbread. I wasn't sure what to expect but once again I was not disappointed. So delicious!"

Was a little disappointed this last time because it was not that busy and they sat us at a small 2 top attached to another 2 top - we were disturbed by the other half our tables conversation a d felt uncomfortable."

  • "Don't get me wrong -- the food was delicious. However, the food was not worth the money paid for it. It was fairly expensive, but that's expected given the location on River North. My girlfriend, who happens to be a Southern food aficionado, was not impressed with the quality to price ratio. The live band was a nice twist for brunch though."

  • "Great place for brunch! Our food, service and overall experience was wonderful. We sat outside which was beautiful but the inside atmosphere was also fun. There are separate menus for brunch and lunch so I recommend asking for both menus to see all of the options. Portions are big so share food with the table. The back porch tea is amazing and it's the best Bloody Mary bar in the city."

  • "A BBQ starved Texan transplanted in New Jersey (where good BBQ is hard to find) goes to Chicago for a visit and finds an authentic BBQ joint half a block away from his hotel. I thought I was dreaming. I highly recommend a visit to Bub City. The food, the drink (they have Shiner Bock and Lone Star) and the atmosphere replicate an authentic Texas BBQ joint. I love chopped brisket. The greater surface area of the chopped meat (as opposed to the sliced meat) allows for more BBQ sauce to stick to the surface of the meat creating greater flavor. Bub pulls it off. Their chopped brisket sandwich is awesome. Take my word for it. Go."

  • "First time at Bub City. It was o.k., probably would not go back. I had the special for the day which was the Short Rib. It was a very big Rib but with a very big price. I wish the waiter would have told me how much but I didn't ask either. It was good but not fall off the bone tender like I prefer short ribs to be. My husband had the brunt ends and again they were good but not for the price that was paid and the amount served. The fried pickles were very good. Nice snap to them. Husband had the boneless wings and he wished he would have ordered two and had them as his entree. He said they were the best he ever had. It's all in the sauce. With all the options in the city, i don't see us coming back."

  • "We went for brunch/lunch and split a few different items with friends. The appetizer of loaded fries was excellent. The hash browns were disappointing-they were very watery and had way too much seasoning and sauce. The mac and cheese was great and the bacon (which is more like pork belly) was very flavorful. The bloody mary bar was fantastic! My first time for chicken and waffles and they were great. Live music at lunch was unexpected and very fun."

There was a band performing which we were skeptical about because we wanted to have conversation while dining but the noise level was just right. They thought the atmosphere, food and even the restrooms were great! We had very good service and the portion size was good as well. I would definitely recommend it. It would be nice to be able to continue to have the option to sit or put your drink down if possible even during the live music portion when it is not overly crowded, but overall the atmosphere was a lot of fun!"

  • "As a frequent visitor to Texas, I have admittedly become somewhat of a BBQ snob. Chicago is a fantastic city for food, but not necessarily known for its BBQ. I have sampled a few of the new comers and have been pleasantly surprised. I had not been to Bub City and finally sampled their menu. The atmosphere was casual and energetic. In addition to the large bar on one side of the space the whiskey bar was a unique addition. If it wasn't for the urban environment out the front door I felt this place could have been anywhere in the south. You just feel relaxed and welcomed. I ordered a sample platter consisting of hot link, pulled pork and brisket and a side of Chipotle Brisket Mac and Cheese. Everything was outstanding!"

And I could have eaten an entire order of those crazy good sticky buns to myself. Everyone loved what they ordered and it wasn't as crowded as it can be most nights so it made it really enjoyable. I would definitely recommend it and will absolutely be going back."

  • "Went here for a birthday lunch with my dad last week. The only thing I didn't love was the country music - but that's personal preference, not anything against the restaurant. We knew what we were signing up for. The pulled pork was delicious- mac and cheese was super good, too. Went around 3pm on a Thursday, no wait at all - place was relatively empty, actually. Will definitely be back!"

  • "I made a reservation for a friend's birthday, table for 8. When they confirmed the reservation with me that morning someone was supposed to tell me "a majority of your party must be at Bub City to be seated." Unfortunately no one did tell me that and since our group was coming from work at different times we did not have a majority for well over 45 minutes. I understand the policy but it should be more clearly stated in the OpenTable reservation and when they confirm. Also, once seated our waitress was not attentive and took a long time to turn around our orders. I appreciate how busy they are and enjoy Bub City but the service needs some work."

  • "If you like barbeque food and bourbon, you will love this place. The food is very good. The brisket is tender, the ribs meaty, and the side dishes tasty. They also have over 100 kinds of whiskey. The only issues I came across were the noise level and the fact that the menu is ala carte. But its got a cool vibe to it so the noise isn't too bad."

  • "The St Louis style ribs are almost impossibly good! Bub City is a fun favorite, perfect for an out-of-the-ordinary date night. Great summer vibes (which can be a nice relief from the Chicago winters). Make a late reservation and stay for live music!"

  • "Yum! First of all, love the atmosphere. The decor reminds me of a roadhouse-American flag made of beer cans, country music, Christmas lights-really fun. I imagine the garage doors are open on a warm day. It is very loud so conversation is hard with anyone other than your neighbor. Food is delicious! The Brussels sprout salad was so good and a great option for a vegetarian or someone wanting to eat light. The giddy up fries are ridiculously good-basically nachos with waffle fries instead of chips, pulled pork, cheese, jalapeños-amazing! My son was very happy with the pulled pork sandwich. We also had the burnt ends. Did not finish those. Everything else was too good to leave on the plate. Ladies must check out the restroom! A+!"

  • "While the food is decent and reasonably priced BBQ, the scene that they are trying to create for this place is just silly. The music level for a 5:30 Saturday night resi caused my table of four to be practically shouting at one another. We had to always flag down our waiter for a refill on our water, to order another round of drinks, and to ask where our appetizer was. When our appetizer showed up after the dinner we were comped the cost of the fried pickles. Big whoop. I live in the neighborhood and would order take-out from this place but have no intensions of returning to dine in. I’d skip this place and look for a better, more enjoyable spot, where they don’t blast the music and can actually remember my food order."

What we didn't appreciate was the table next to us where a table for four had about 10 people milling about and getting too close to us and making it difficult to eat an have a conversation. It took the restaurant a long time to finally get this large group to a larger table and it was only because they requested it. The waiter should have told the table that they couldn't have people around the table like that. Very unprofessional in a restaurant."
