brushstrokeSashimi is excellent, as areSashimi is excellent, as are the soups and salads. However, they missed with the tempura soft-shelled crab: uni sauce made it mushy, and crab had a strange metallic taste to it. Also, the rice lobster dish was way overcooked.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAmateur ReviewI was expecting Japanese, but it was more an Americanized version of Japanese. Maybe it didn't have the zen one might have been expecting, but in the end this is all good. It's better to try to stand out, be unique, etc. than try to copy something else. I had the kaiseki with wine/sake pairings. Comparing it to the kaiseki I had in Kyoto, I think it missed the mark in being appealing to all five senses. That being said, it did hit the mark in the most important sense -- TASTE! But it varied. It ranged from awesome to mediocre, but the good far outweighed the mediocre. Or in other words, mediocre was the exception rather than the rule.
Bottom line, I'd recommend it.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a very enjoyable dinner. We had a very enjoyable dinner. The tasting menu and the Spring special are both excellent. The food is delicious, the taste is extraodinay. the prsentation is exactly what a kaseiki is all about. Cold sake is to die for. We will be back.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMYummyI picked the restaurant to go with a colleague for a food-night-out who had a preference for Japanese, and he came out grinning from ear to ear after our kaiseki dinner (not to mention my own smiles). The staff were commendable - professional yet intimate and friendly. The menu is well thought of in my opinion.
He's going back again - and so will I.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experienceWe ordered the 9 course tasting menu.

My wife and I were there to celebrate our anniversary.
The wait staff was very professional and was very attentive to our ever need.
We were even offered items that were not even on the menu. I guess it was our lucky day.
Overall the food was delightful and creatively done.
Well worth a return visit if time and money permits.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious Yummy and MemorableThe food is absolutely delicious here. I brought a potential client here for a business dinner. We tried their 8 course tasting menu which was very tasty, fresh and unique. The waitstaff was very attentive. I would definitely come here again. This is a great place for a business meeting as it is not too loud either. If you love sake, they've got a wonderful selection. And if you drive, parking around this neighborhood was easy.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicateIt is Japanese food like you never had before. Delicate subtlety is the best descriptor, dinner is like meditating on a peaceful mossy rock overlooking a placid pond with koi fish.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMthe food was delicious. wagyuthe food was delicious. wagyu beef melted in my mouth.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMEdible Art for RomanticsWe have found the (regular) brushstroke menu to be wonderful-- so good that we rarely deviate from it. But we opted for the Spring menu and it exceeded our already high expectations. Every course we delicious and a pleasure to all the senses. This is one of our favorite places for celebrating anniversaries, and we will return for our next anniversary!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was so beautiful.I and my son had amazing dinner at Brushstroke on my son's birthday.

Very nice service (w/ one aspect that seems a little odd). Overall a remarkable dining experience.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMCan't go wrong. EverythingCan't go wrong. Everything is good. You pay the price, but then you don't have to worry about anything. This is what quality means. I recommend it.
On top of it, no horrendous TV anywhere, music super quiet, which makes people behave quieter and talk quieter too. Great.
I strongly recommend it.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMShi shi fu fuWent to Brushstroke for my girlfriends birthday. Had the 8 course tasting menu which was $85 per person. I figured I'd splurge and see how the other side lived. Got a 300ml bottle of Sake also. The food was very creative and the service was impeccable. The total bill came to $220. Overall it was a wonderful atmosphere, good food and great service. Not somewhere I would go often, but maybe once a year for special occasions.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMExceptional food, service-Exceptional food, service- a truly memorable dining experience. My only complaint would be the staggering price tag.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMA special treatWe had the shorter tasting menu and every single mouthful was delicious. The presentation is gorgeous. You can taste every single delectAble ingredient.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMExpensive but deliversBe ready to pay, menu upgrades can really add up. But the quality is there. Highly recommend it.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMone of a kindWe tried the $85 (smaller) tasting menu which was excellent and a good value. Sashimi, fish, meat and rice like no place else on earth. Creative and inventive doesn't begin to describe the flavors and textures. It isn't really food; its whatever comes after food in the evolution of the planet. Elegant room and service. Must try at least once if you are lucky enough to get a reservation.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing fusion of JapaneseAmazing fusion of Japanese and American cuisines, ambiance and service. Outstading food, innovative menu, pleasing decor, excellent sake list.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMOverrated. It was great, the service was good, a little too up tight but I like that sort of dining experience sometimes.
I found it to be overrated though, I ordered a dish in the end that came with rice. The rice tasted like plastic, no kidding! But their sushi was good.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMRick aI had high expectations for Brushstroke, and it exceeded them on every level. I love Bouley's restaurants and I love sushi & sake, so this was a no-brainer. Perfection in every detail. Amazing, innovative food. Great service. Cool & tranquil decor. Nice soft jazz in the background. It all works.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had the Tasting Menu forWe had the Tasting Menu for $85. Delicious, creative and beautiful! Worth every penny.
