Brown Dog Cafe
First visit. Really did notFirst visit. Really did not know what to expect. However, the service and food was very excellent. We will be back.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMA twist on the classicThe menu is a good fish meat mix with some interesting twists on the classics. There is a good range of food, prices and degrees of adventure so everyone will find something that has their name on it. Food was fantastic, service was unubtrusive. I was their with a friend so we were chatting away which is probably why our service was a little slower than other tables. Thorally enjoyed and will be back6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome as UsualRestaurant Week menu is outstanding. We are Brown Dog regulars, but the menu and execution for Restaurant Week just blew us away. Our table of four tried the Appetizer section with the Seafood Pot, the crab cakes, the salad was the Grilled Caesar that was really great, and the main course we had the Halibut/ravioli and one lamb entree. Everything was creative and delicious, and nicely paced from a service standpoint.; quite a trick for a packed dining room on a Saturday night. Kudus to all at Brown Dog.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for Restaurant WeekMy wife and I went with another couple to the Brown Dog on Saturday during Restaurant Week. It has been years since we dined there, but the food was as excellent as I remembered. The service was also quite good. I look forward to returning.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is always excellent. The food is always excellent. Service is good. Only negative is that the restaurant is small and, when tables don't turn over as expected, you have to wait well past your reservation time.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent FoodThe food was quite good. The Mediterranean Duck was tender and perfectly prepared. The strawberry pepper sorbet with champagne was a delightful surprise with the fresh flavor of strawberries combined with the tartness of the champagne and the bite of pepper. It was wonderful. The Brown Bob, a kabob with venison, wild boar and duck was very nicely done. The brown sauce that came on the side was very tasty and added just the right touch to the meat. The meats were NOT gamey, which surprised me. They were flavorful and delicious. I would definately recommend this establishment and will absolutely be coming back for more.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful as UsualThe food was amazing as it always is, and for 33 dollars, that's a price that can't be beat for fresh amazingly cooked food.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMamazing foodWas a bit loud but the food was woth it! A perfect local spot for a special meal.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMEclectic mix of menu optionsThis was our first visit to Brown Dog Cafe. Tucked away in a strip mall, it appears nondescript from the outside, but lovely inside. It is a small place (get a reservation!), but still has a surprising array of menu items (Rabbit Empanada's, anyone?). I had the petite filet and crab cake. The filet was tender and cooked to perfection! The breads before the meal, all from The Blue Oven Bakery, were wonderful. We had a great time. Expensive, but very good.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious food; great forDelicious food; great for a special treat or special occasion.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat menu, Great FoodI really enjoyed the variety of foods on the menu. Our orders were plated well and presented beautifully. The portion sizes were good (something I was pleasantly surprised with). Dessert was outstanding, I highly recommend the chocolate banana bread.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent vegan and vegetarianExcellent vegan and vegetarian option as well as other heart healthy entrees. The wild boar was delicious.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAn Experience to CherishThe warm welcome is carried through with a very personable waitstaff that quickly gets to the purpose of the evening. The beverage offerings leaves little to be desired and is expertly paired, if you ask, with the wonderful pre-meal tastings. The entree offerings are unique and have yet to disappoint our foursome when we return. Our most recent visit was rated A+ by each.
Located very close to a zoom, zoom interstate gives easy access to inner Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. A minor complaint is the level of lighting--it is difficult to see the wine list, menu, and bill.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfection - as usualThe wait staff remembers me - along with my likes and dislikes. It makes a meal so much nicer.
Plus, I can recommend a companion order anything that looks 'good' , knowing s/he'll enjoy the meal, too.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMHidden GemI've been dining at Brown Dog Cafe for 2 years now and it's always the same quality, service, and wine. They are just consistently pleasing. In case you didn't know, it's family run so it's not your business-run restaurant. I always thought that this was a lunch spot as I keep calling it, The Brown Bag Cafe... The location, though easily accessible, is in a mall with Office Depot, a hotel, a Subway in the same vicinity. From the outside, you'd never know there was such fine food/wine. Great Price:Performance.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMNot as great as usualLove this place and have been multiple times but this time maybe made the wrong food choices. Lamb chops were perfectly cooked but a little tasteless - if I have to add salt that's a bad sign. My husband has the game plate and again good but not great. Normally I find the dishes extremely creative and memorable here which is why I think we just didn't choose well. Will definitely be back though.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food as always. ServiceGreat food as always. Service is well paced, server was excellent in all regards. That is why we always return to Brown Dog.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMLocal GemExcellent food - Well prepared and attractively presented.
A very pleasant surprise . Don't be put off by the location.
I would return without hesitation. Wine list is solid and attractively
priced. Wine by the glass options are good as well. By
all means give Brown Dog a try.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMI like the variety and diversityI like the variety and diversity of selections. I like that Brown Dog serves items found on no other local restaurant menus.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a fabulous meal! ThisWhat a fabulous meal! This was a nice, quite little storefront restaurant with great food...and not a wing or burger on the menu, thank goodness!!
My husband had a special "tasting" that included wild boar, venison and lamb and I had Mediterranean duck stuffed with goat cheese, pine nuts and cherries that was baked in phyllo. The wait staff is very knowledgeable on the food and wine and happy to help. They were just attentive enough and not overbearing. We will be going back!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThe place is consistentlyThe place is consistently excellent! Personal service is high and they work exceptionally well with complex food allergies and environmental allergies with respect, understanding and a smile. Check it out.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMas always, great service,as always, great service, wonderful food and excellent place to meet my friends.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMEntrees were great. DessertsEntrees were great. Desserts needed an acquired taste.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Choice For A FoodieThis is an amazing restaurant nestled next to a Subway almost completely unnoticeable. But once you do, you will be a lifer. The ambiance is fantastic, it's very trendy and the staff is incredibly nice. The food is equally as amazing and as a foodie, there are some new things for you to try.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMThe lunch menu was variedThe lunch menu was varied and well priced for the selections offered. The house salad and eggplant cannelloni were excellent.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a very enjoyable experience. We had a very enjoyable experience. The food and serice were excellent. Only one improvement would be to have the red wines stored and served at cellar temperature instead of room temperature. We will defintely dine there more often.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food. This is probably my favorite restaurant. The food is outstanding and a big cut above what you can expect at most places. So good that I will pretty much order anything and trust the chef. Service is courteous and prompt. This was a birthday night out on Good Friday, and did not disappoint.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMVery unique menu and qualityVery unique menu and quality food. Upscale yet relaxing atmosphere.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMCreative diverse menu reasonablyCreative diverse menu reasonably priced for the excellent quality, good service from experienced dining room staff, all in all another wonderful evening at Brown Dog Cafe.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMI was in town for businessI was in town for business and would have never stopped here if not for the Yelp review because it's kind of hidden, but I was not disappointed. Delicious food and presentation. They definitely have a very quiet, nice atmosphere going for them. Thanks!3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways an innovative menuAlways an innovative menu offering several good choices, no matter what your taste. Superbly executed with great flavors.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat time with friendsWe found this when meeting friends while visiting the Cincinnati area. The food was fantastic. They were out of the wine we ordered, but the waitress gave us a good alternative. Seemed to take a long time to get our food, but we were in no hurry. Had a great experience. Will definitely return when in the area again. Don't let the fact that it is in a small strip mall with a very uninspiring outside stop you from eating here.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent eclectic menu withExcellent eclectic menu with consistent quality. Been here ten times and never the same; I am enthralled by the changing yet consistent meals. You pay a little extra but not in the Jeff Ruby class. Highly recommend especially if your tired of the same old same old.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMNever Disappoints.I love bringing "new people" to Brown Dog. I like when they agree it's a real find!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMNot just for special occasionsI lived in Blue Ash for years but had never tried Brown Dog Cafe. I thought it was super pricey. I was wrong. I thought the selection was going to be too limited. I was wrong. A friend and I tried it out for lunch and couldn't believe what we had been missing. There were a wide range of items to choose from, including choices for vegetarians. The portions were extremely generous. The prices were very competitive. And, most importantly, the food was delicious. We will definitely be returning soon. A tip for dinners at lunch time: make reservations to ensure a table will be available and allow an hour.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our second time atThis was our second time at the Brown Dog. We love the relaxed feel of this place - warm lighting and cozy – like a comfortable living room. We definitely would return to try more dishes. The corn and crab soup was amazing and the Spinach, filo, camembert and cumquat appetizer was a wonderful blend of flavors. We both had melt in your mouth filets which were prepared differently, both wonderful. Our service was well-timed and friendly. We really enjoyed the Lanzaga wine our waitress suggested.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday celebrationWe are from out of town visiting family and we had a birthday celebration here. The service was wonderful and the food was equally wonderful. They made this very special for us and our entire party of 9.2/25/2013 12:00:00 AMBrown Dog lives up to the hype!Service was extremely attentive. Food was very good -- and options I thought were really appealing. There were unique and delicious looking food options too (I was sorry I only got to taste the dish I ordered!). Brown Dog lives up to the hype and their costs – good, quality restaurant.1/1/0001 4:00:00 PM
