  • "Yet another gastropub in SD without any substance. We arrived for our reservation on time, yet they wouldn't seat us for nearly 10 minutes, even though there were 6 tables open. Service was either rude or non-existent. Busboys were the most attentive staff. The main reason we wanted to try this place was the braised pork shanks, which they were out of. We ordered cornbread, which came out completely burnt. Our group ordered Brined Duroc Pork Chops, Brown Stone Brick chicken breast, and the Margherita Classico pizza. All were just mediocre. The pork chops were best, albeit a bit bland, but the vegetable hash was tasty. Overall we were disappointed. There are many places in SD with both excellent food and service. This isn't one of them."

  • "We came to dinner with an infant and everyone was super friendly and accommodating. Our table ordered the meatballs, the flautas, the pork shank, the veggie lasagna, and a pizza. Everyone enjoyed the food and the ambience of the restaurant. They seem to have an option for all people. I will definitely be back to try more!"

  • "Was excited to come and check this place out after reading about it in a local magazine and reading Yelp! reviews online. While the ambience and space itself were very amenable, both my BF and i felt the food was lacking a certain something - considering the price point and somewhat limited menu. We were however impressed with the wine & cocktail list - oysters were fantastic. Our server was super and really great about sending my sea bass back to be redone after the first dish was over cooked like leather. Might like to try again on a weekend for brunch instead. Great spot for a glass of wine though!"

  • "It was okay. I was bummed that I was charged for a drink that I disliked and was sent back. I didn't want to complain so I dealt with it. My friend and I weren't greeted for 18 minutes and it definitely wasn't busy enough to have to wait that long. I won't be back for a while."

There is something on the menu for everyone, creative dishes, large portions, excellent service. Just a terrific experience. We've sent many friends here and they all agree."

  • "We went to this neighborhood eatery on the advice of a couple we met on the plane to San Diego who said the duck was superb. They were right--we ordered duck for two with root vegetables served in a cast iron skillet and it was excellent. Great raw bar, very friendly vibe, gorgeous bar. Service was excellent, laid back, and friendly. Definitely recommend!"

  • "It's hard to get into Brooklyn Girl without a reservation. It's busy; it's loud; it's got Woody Allen and Scarlett Johansen on the wall (even though Woody is a Manhattanite). I was excited to finally try it, since I'd heard do much about it. It was good, I'd go back. But it wasn't THAT good. We ordered wine; two glasses arrived promptly, but the third came an awkward 20 minutes later. We ordered the Kale Caesar salad - tasty, but I've had better, and they didn't offer black pepper. The gluten free options, like the cauliflower "cous cous" was wonderful. The pork shank was tender and delicious."

  • "We had a very nice dinner with our friends at Brooklyn Girl Eatery. There was lots of menu items that sounded delish so it was hard to choose. We ended up getting the vietnamese meatballs that were yummy. The sauce was spicy for me but the men loved it. For main dishes we got 2 ahi , a pork shank, and lamb dishes. All were very good. We also all got dessert. I liked the brownie. Wished it was a bit warmer and had ice cream. My friend had the apple tart and she didn't really like it. Service was good. A bit slow at times but we weren't in a rush. Bar was cool. Would like to sit there and have a drink next time."

  • "Great oysters on the half shell!! Over all the meal was great. The hamburger was pretty good. I was told to eat the pork shank on polenta and it was good, but the meat was pretty dry. The Brussels sprout side dish was really nice, a little on the sweet side for me. Really the Vietnamese meatball appetizer was the winner!! I highly recommend it. Our server was very cute, but when the place got busy she was totally overwhelmed. I will go back and try something a little lighter next time. Really enjoyed the ambiance and the fun people."

  • "Our reservation for four started out on a very bad foot when the receptionist who was training an apprentice who was ready to seat the two of us first to arrive over ruled her decision and told us haughtily that we could not be seated until the others arrived and that we could sit at the bar or a high table and wait. Why on earth they would have such a rule is beyond us and my wife and I found this arrogant and very annoying. Although the food choices were excellent, their attitude and very slow service made an otherwise promising new dining experience far less than it could have been."

  • "Visiting from out of town for our Anniversary weekend & staying in Old Town. Had always wondered about this place in Mission Hills & decided to give it a try because we saw they have Roast Duck on the menu. Not a place for a quiet, romantic dinner - it gets quite busy & the noise level gets high, but the food is worth it! Started with the Kale Caesar Salad, which was terrific & a creative twist on a traditional favorite. Then the Roasted Duck for two - a bargain at the price. Presentation was great - a whole roasted & split duck served in the roasting pan on a bed of fresh veggies. The sauce on the bottom of the pan was delectable, not at all greasy. Nothing over-seasoned or over-salted. Loved the little Anniversary dessert, too!"

  • "Brooklyn Girl has interesting decor, great food and a terrific wait staff. We enjoyed the spicy shellfish stew with a French name I can't spell and the pizza. The only thing we found missing is there is no dinner salad option to go with your meal. There are a number of salad options, but they all seem like meals rather than "go withs"."

  • "Enjoyed this restaurant greatly. Had reservations for a later time, but found seats at the bar. Think my g/f & I enjoy the bar seating better, actually. A lot of smoke was coming from the kitchen as if the exhaust wasn't working which made our clothes smell like the kitchen since we were somewhat close to it. Other than that, food was superb, drinks were great, and service impeccable."

  • "This used to be one of my favorite local restaurants for a really nice evening without blowing the budget. I could count on it for a lively, fun vibe and great food. The last two times (last 3 months), I've been very disappointed - once was for brunch and more recently, for dinner. I will say their mules are consistently good as are their brussel sprouts. Other items were hit and miss. I will probably give this restaurant one more try. I can't give it my full recommendation, but if you order the right things or like everything, you could have a great meal."

They had a nice selection of craft beers, cocktails and wines. Come to find out. I couldn't have chosen a better place. Mission Hills is a charming neighborhood. The service at Brooklyn Girl was just right. The food was delicious. The eclectic farmhouse sheik décor provided a comfortable environment, and interesting conversation pieces."

  • "After hearing amazing reviews, I made a reservation a month ahead of time to ensure a good table. When we arrived, they would not let us sit until our whole party had arrived, which I think should only occur if you walk in…and not when you have a reservation. The menu looked amazing! The pear salad was fantastic… The sea bass was way too dry and the presentation left you with something to be desired. The pork chop looked great! At the table, I had to ask twice for another glass of wine, and when it came out, it was 20 minutes after I had ordered it. Overall, I don't think the restaurant is all it is hyped up to be. But I did enjoy my time there and would probably return for happy hour."

The oysters were delicious- lots of great west coast gems. The best surprise was the crab salad- all the ingredients were so fresh and creatively plated! Great find!"

  • "Great friendly service from all the staff. Truly perfect. Nice restaurant design and good menu. Lively but not too loud (and I'm one who really hates loud restaurants). Fantastic cocktails and beer. Our table ordered the meatball appetizer, two pizzas, and the pork shank. The meatballs were delicious. Both Pizza's were very good. The pork shank was good. Very tender and huge. The sauce flavoring was ok, but I didn't think it was particularly special or notable. All in all, a great restaurant and one I plan to put on my short list of san diego favorites. Lots of things I'd love to try and a really enjoyable place to go for a meal."

  • "From the time we entered 12-15 minutes went by before a server came to our table. We have picked some entrees online but when we got to the restaurant they were not on the menu. It was noisy. We had a Pinot Noir that was great as was a Pinot Blanc that another member of our party had. The Vegetable "lasagna" didn't have any pasta in it but was good tasting. These were the only two bright spots in a $300 night for 4 people. For us it wasn't worth the drive from PB"

  • "First time diner looking forward to the full sea bass dish (hopefully with the head) as listed in their online menu that I could share with my date but lo, and behold, when our waiter arrived (who replaced the waitress that greeted us) we were informed it had been dropped and a sea bass filet, suitable for one, now replaced it. Stuck, I got the filet. It was accompanied by one tablespoon of couscous and a 1/4" slice of butternut squash. Nicely seasoned, a little dry, pricey. The ambience is pseudo hip industrial meaning you have an underlit, voluminous space with high exposed ceilings, shi shi bric 'n brac (that will end up in a thrift store in 20 years) and paintings imitating Barbara Kruger's work on the wall."

  • "Three wonderful evenings of delicious dining; each time we've been at Brooklyn Girl we experienced attentive but not overbearing service. All wait ystaff must have been expertly trained because they are there when you need them, but are not intrusive. And, as for the food....the oysters were amazing! The duck cannot be passed up! Brooklyn Girl is everything you go to a restaurant for; a relaxing, fun place with great food!"

  • "We had a wonderful dinner at Brooklyn Girl. A great place for grazing and sharing. The food was excellent. We started off with some appetizers, then salad and then pizza and dessert. I'd say dessert was the weakest item. The brownie was a bit dry and dense but it helped to add a scoop of vanilla gelato which was really good. Interesting drinks on the menu. Overall the meal was delish."
