Diner Reviews
  • "We recently had brunch there, both of us having omelets. Beautiful setting, beautiful views, cute converted house into a restaurant. The food however, was only fair. Parking rather difficult to find."

  • "My absolute favorites are Coast Toast for breakfast and the Cioppino for dinner."

  • "Great Coast toast! View was awesome. Sat on the little porch overlooking La Jolla Cove. Great service .... First time visiting the area and restaurant. Got the recommendation from our hotel concierge and he was spot on!"

  • "We were celebrating the upcoming marriage of our future sister-in-law, and requested a table on the deck by the railing. And we got it, a gorgeous view of the cove, fantastic service and really good food. What a great day!"

  • "great way to celebrate my birthday with friends and family!"

  • "Overall a nice experience, but the food, service, and atmosphere didn't blow me away. We got lots of dirty looks from couples having date-night when we walked in with my toddler. Although she was well-behaved and quiet, any noise beyond soft conversation would have been noticeable in the tight quarters on the patio. The servers were friendly and attentive, although not particularly informative about the menu, especially the wine list. I wouldn't go back for dinner, but for an adults-only lunch, I might try again."

  • "My friend in Kansas City referred us to this lovely restaurant overlooking La Jolla Cove. Our family of five asked and received a patio table. The restaurant is a renovated summer "bungalow" on the side of the cliffs and the view was amazing. We ordered four different breakfast dishes and all were unique and delicious. Loved the history, loved the food, loved the view. The service was good, not excellent, but nothing could take away from the overall experience. Would highly recommend. NOTE: This is a small restaurant with very few tables, so would recommend reservations in advance."

  • "Went for Father's Day Dinner with 9 (including 3 small children) in our party. Had our table ready, servers were excellent - especially with 3 kids and the noise they sometimes generated! We were in a semi-private back veranda (good for rest of diners). Service was superb as was the food. Our entrees included: Salmon, Swordfish, Scallops, Filet Mignon - all excellent! We would highly recommend Brockton Villa at any time for any size group."

  • "This place never disappoints. The best seat in the house is definitely outside under the shady tree. It's just stunning and so serene, and the food is always excellent. I brought my long distance boyfriend here over the weekend and it was by far his favorite place we did all weekend. Thank you guys so much!"

  • "Pros- Great view of the ocean from the patio and fun historic location, great original breakfast entrees and big portions. Cons - just a slight warning sitting outside around 10 AM the breeze from the ocean cliffs will smell occassionally like hot garbage from combo of sea life and hot sun. Also be warned orange juice is $5 for a small tall glass (first time I've found a mocha was less than a juice at a breakfast spot) and a refill was not offered."

  • "We had been here years ago, it was exciting and clean..it is now smelly (outside) musty and very sad. We were disappointed...we hope they will get better... Menues were sticky...UGH Staff was very nice.."

  • "4 of us went for dinner in this charming restaurant by the La Jolla Coves. Everything each of us ordered was disappointing, except the desserts were good. Service was attentive."

  • "Talk about a restaurant with a ocean front panoramic view! WOW! This was our first time at this restaurant and we were not disappointed. Both my wife and I enjoyed a special crab stuffed halibut entree, which was excellent. We also splurged on a bottle of Pinot Noir which was also very good. We will definitely return to the Brockton Villa the next time we are in town."

  • "A wonderful, relaxed place facing the La Jolla Cove. Too bad the food is mediocre. With a bit of effort on the foodie side this would be an outstanding place."
    Dined on 6/10/2014
  • "Coast toast was superb as always, though smaller. Good quality fresh fruit. Greek Steamers disappointing. Has always been a favorite. Very little feta cheese, basil not flavorful. Overall, a mixed experience."

  • "Great views and food but very costly food then I had expected. Replacing normal toast with french toast cost was $6 for a lunches which averaged @ $14 not including extra for the toast. For last two times I went there in last 6 months, the smell due to Seals in the area has gotten worst. Its not restaurant's fault but if you want outdoor dining, which is why we went there in the first place, then you have to deal with the smell. My wife and daughter were not pleased by it and it probably killed their appetite due to the smell. Food looked and tasted great but when it came time to pay for it it killed my appetite when they charged @ 40% more for single piece of extra french toast :) There are limited choices for vegan food."

  • "The food was good, not amazing but the views and service made up for it, as well as the reasonable priced wine list. I would definitely go back."
    Dined on 5/31/2014
  • "The food was excellent except for the lobster salad. There was too little lobster, too many vegetables and too many spices which really overwhelmed the delicate taste of the lobster. The chowder, on the other hand, was delicious and the Mediterranean salad was incredibly good. My husand had chicken which was moist and flavorful, even the often dry white meat. We would come back."

  • "The view from here is amazing! Outdoor balcony and patio overlook the ocean and. La Jolla Cove. Go for the coast toast, it is their signature item that is great for breakfast or dessert. #1 in my book."

  • "I only very occasionally eat sugar these days and when I do, I want perfection. Brockton Villa's french toast (coast toast) is the best."

  • "Great food usually doesn't come with a great view and excellent service but it does here. The seafood stew is fantastic as is the octopus appetizer. Look for in ground parking on your left before you get to the restaurant. Make reservations and enjoy a great dinner, sunset, and desert! I read some negative comments on Yelp but I do not agree with them at all. "

  • "Anyone who visit sbSan Diego should never miss this spot. Everything about this place is wonderful. "

  • "Not bad, but nothing special. Service was friendly but inattentive. They have beer and wine only. No full bar. The menu didn't wow me, and what I had was ok, but I wouldn't order it again if I ever went back. Nice location. Great view. "
    Dined on 5/18/2014
  • "We went for dinner. The view from the restaurant was amazing but the food was poor. I ordered the Keep it simple swordfish and my husband ordered the Brockton villa cioppino which is supposedly their speciality. Both the items were sub par. For that price, we have had some really good meals in other places. I don't recommend this place for dinner; not sure about how the other meals are. We will definitely not visit again."

  • "Brockton Villa has an amazing view. That is definitely part of its charm. We started with seafood chowder and some appetizers, and those were good. Not amazing, but good. Then on to the entrees. That's where they hit their stride. Everyone spoke well of their entrees, from my spouse, whose salad was simple but quite good, to my own plate of scallops which was delicious, perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. Desserts were less impressive. We got a few different desserts to share, but the "Coast Toast," a sort of stuffed French Toast, served with gelato, was their signature dish. Unfortunately, we were less than impressed. It was okay, but it wasn't anything special, at least not for us. Overall, nice place, decent price, amazing view!"

  • "This restaurant is a must for breakfast if you're anywhere in the area. The views from the restaurant of the cliffs and ocean are breathtaking. The food is outstanding! I wouldn't recommend just playing it safe with your typical breakfast. You have to try the coast toast which is their delightful twist on French toast. Or the Naughty Burrito if you still want to have some meat & potatoes for breakfast. "

  • "The food was more than great. The view was outstanding.. We cant wait to go back. The service was also very good.. Waiter took care of us & recommended some great dishes.. This place was very clean & seemed very nice."

  • "Found this place on a whim on Yelp! Came here for Mother's Day and mom really enjoyed it. The service was a bit slow which was weird because it wasn't that busy. Food was good and drinks were good. The view was the best part. It was easy to get a table (I booked 3-4 weeks in advance) and they seated us immediately. Friendly food runners too!"

  • "The food, the view the waiter were all amazing.. This is one of the best meals I have ever had and it is quite a statement if you know me. "

  • "Took my mom here for a Saturday Mother's Day breakfast and it was lovely. Had a table out on the patio with excellent views of the ocean and the cove. I was a little worried about the smell that people had been warning me about but honestly it wasn't even smelly. There were probably two times when a breeze would pick up and you would get a fishy/oceany smell, but it was for a second and it wasn't enough to make me want to sit inside. I would love to come here for lunch as the lunch menu looked amazing. "

  • "Took the girlfriends for a birthday brunch and had a wonderful time. The weather was warm and the view spectacular. The food was plentiful and delicious as always. The only complaint is that we didn't get seated outdoors, due to the full house. "

  • "PERFECT spot for breakfast with girlfriends or a romantic dinner with husband. In stormy weather it is the place I love to experience with a hot chocolate! In person the staff is personal & very attentive to my requests. Although there are many nearby "upscale" restaurants, the Brockton has purposefully & quite successfully achieved in providing a personal and yet casually professional atmosphere. They remember you and what your tastes are, thereby being able to assist you if you wish in food choices. Their Macadamia encrusted scallops are out of this world...along with their Salmon on Coconut Rice. Their chef Mariah does an awesome job. Keep it up, Brockton! "

  • "We came here for Easter Brunch. The French Toast was the best I ever had. We sat outside. My only complaint were the uncomfortable seats. "

  • "They have some different coffee-based bevarages that are pretty interesting and tasty. I ordered the Coast Toast and was not disappointed! It was delicious. I got it with a side of potatoes, but the potatoes weren't that great so I wished I had gotten it with the side of fruit instead. My husband got the carne asada benedict, which he enjoyed very much. I definitely recommend this place as a great brunch spot with some original offerings."

  • "We had a wonderful time spending Easter dinner at this restaurant. This was the first time in 9 years that I've been back and it was fantastic. It wasn't crowded so the wait staff was not rushing us, accommodated all of our requests and had a smile on the whole time. A nice little dinner secret since it's a zoo for breakfast and lunch."
