  • "I've been to the Broad Axe before. It was soon after its restoration and was no too impressed, food and service. I first began going to the Broad Axe when I moved to Broad Axe in 1986, some changes for better or worst. I miss the Chicago burger and onion loaf but this last visit was very enjoyable. I had the Fish and Chips which had to be the best Fish I have had in the area. Short of coming wrapped in newspaper it was the real deal. My wife had a lighter meal, the fire cracker shrimp and fries. She enjoyed them. The shrimp were small but many. Beer was crisp and refreshing. The servers were very attentive and helpful with the menu. I do plan on returning sooner than last time."

  • "We went to the Broad Axe on a Saturday night. The place was so very noisy that we could not talk. The food was very mediocre, (I had Prime Rib, my wife had short ribs ) ; the service was very slow and inattentive. My Prime Rib dinner was supposed to be served with a baked potato: it was served with mashed. When I complained to the waiter he said that they were out of baked. He offered a different substitute potato - I agreed - but it was not served until after I had finished my meal. No - we will not return to this restaurant."

  • "Seven of us went to dinner at the Broad Axe to celebrate a birthday. There was not one good meal in the group. The filet and salmon were below average. Overall the dinner was very disappointing."

  • "I think I was expected more from reviewing the menu online. The service was great and the food was fine, but it was nothing special. I anticipated better but there wasn't anything wrong with the food we got either. Pretty average bar food but great wine and beer selection."

  • "Great service- friendly, attentive! Extensive menu, large portions, good food! Would definitely become a repeat patron!"

  • "A group of six of us went out for dinner at Broad Axe on a Saturday night and we were pleasantly surprised. We were welcomed by a very energetic and friendly staff, and since we had a reservation, we were taken right to our table. We had to wait a little bit for drinks but it was a busy Saturday night and our server was very friendly in between getting our drinks. The food was very good - each person in our group got something different and everyone was happy with their meal. I'd definitely go back again."

  • "Broad Axe has a large menu that should meet the needs of almost everyone. It is kid friendly and is located in building that looks very historic. For those of you that enjoy beer, there is a huge beer list."

  • "Haven't been to the Broad Axe in years but the food was consistently great...... not so any more . My friend ordered a $12 "sirloin burger" and asked for it to be cooked "medium" expecting a nice juicy generous patty of beef piled high on a roll with lettuce, tomato , onion, etc. . Her burger arrived, well-done (actually more like charbroiled to a crisp) . It looked like a burger from a fast food establishment accompanied by a serving of soggy fries. She sent the burger back, but when the replacement came out, it was still very small, thin and well done. Very disappointing , especially for a $12 "sirloin burger"."

  • "My husband and I went here on a Friday night for dinner. Great drinks, great food. Server was very attentive. A very pleasant evening out. Don't really have anything negative to say about our experience here."

  • "My husband thought he died and went to beer heaven. So many beers, so little time (for blood alcohol levels to decrease to below the legal limit.) Enough said. I drove."

  • "Awesome atmosphere!, here I go with issues my wife and I had while dining at this restaurant. Server (not the waitress) spilled my wife's drink on my coat and wiped it off by rubbing it on himself and then proceeded to go get a towel, next they brought the wrong salad, sat it down walked away and then they came back and took it and gave it to the couple behind us, our filet mignon was not cooked as ordered, waitress was very nice but over worked. It was the only restaurant in recent memory we couldn't wait to leave. then to top it off I left our dessert sitting on the table as we ran for the exit!!!!!"

  • "We got a last minute reservation for Valentine's Day on Open Table so we could stay close to home with the weather and we couldn't have been happier! The price fixed menu was a phenomenal deal, app, really great salads, filet and lobster tail surf and turf, a giant piece of chocolate cake and champagne for two for $60 a couple. Great food, great price, great ambiance, servers were swamped but did a great job--we won't go anywhere else for Vday ever again. Would love to see the price fixed option more often, but love the other food as well."

  • "We were very disappointed in the food. The ambience was fair. They blamed the service and cold bad food on Elvis night, which happens once a year! We did not believe it. Had to send back two meals! They took one off but still but very poor. We also had to wait a long while to be waited on and for our meals and coffee."

  • "We went for our sons birthday with his girlfriend and the four of us enjoed our evening. It is a tavern and as such, if you are expecting truffled walnuts you are in the wrong place, if you waant a good burger, steak, or broiled fish, then come right in. They have a great craft beer menu, which according to our waitress changes seasonally. With 19 beers on tap, you can have your selecion. Ihad the fillet oscar, and it was great. Also the special mushroon soup was a nice touch on a snowy saturday night, when it was 15 degrees outside. I would go back if I lived closer!"

  • "Wide selection from good portioned entree's to favorite sandwiches. Good selection of appetizers and wide range of beers to choose from. Server was patient but limited help on choosing. To her, we could like anything, no favorites recommended. All food arrive promptly,. Food was hot except mashed potatoes got cold fast. Very active loud bar scene. Patrons aged from mid 20’s thru 70’s. All were enjoying themselves. Recommended for a gathering of friends."

  • "The Other 2 adults I was with felt as i did, we probably would have made out better just coming in with no reservation. We were seated upstairs where the recessed lighting was shining brightly and tthe room over all had no character and we were lucky enough to be seated between two tables of families with small children wondering around. How fun after a day of work. There were plenty of vacant tables downstairs."

  • "I am salivating thinking about the perfectly-cooked and flavored burger I had at Broad Axe, and though it's no where near me, I'd go back anytime for another one. It is friendly, comfortable, good for lunch, the bar scene, has a great beer selection, and a fireplace. You could come here with anyone--kids, parents, a date--and be happy."

  • "This was our first time here. We were having such a good time, we stayed for Trivia. The Wednesday night trivia is going to be a regular time for us. We had such a great time. This is a great spot for date night, dinner with family, and it is kid friendly! The service was wonderful!!!"

  • "Our first time to the restaurant was for New Year's Eve 2013. The place has been recently renovated so there are various rooms where you can dine. They do have a nice selection on their menu. As we weren't that impressed with our entrees, I only gave 3 stars. I had a seafood risotto with a small lobster tail. The risotto was kind of starchy and the lobster tail very bland. My husband had a shrimp and scallop fra diavolo, in which the shrimp were very small, like the kind they use in Chinese dishes. However the service was very good as was my chocolate martini. The restaurant wasn't very crowded for New Year's Eve which seemed a bit odd. Since it was about a 35 minute drive for us, I don't think we will be going back."

  • "There was only one bartender for the entire restaurant and bar on New Year's Eve. He worked like a dog to keep up, but we had to wait 15 minutes to get our drinks and we were sitting right in front of him. Our reserved table was given away because it took so long to get our drinks, so we were given a high top in the bar area. We were not happy. We ordered an appetizer in the loud bar waiting for a real table to open up. My husband requested filet oscar medium rare, but it was so rare and not cooked in the middle, he had to send it back. My scallops were yummy, but there were only 5 of them. This was about the 6th time we have been to the Broad Axe and the first time we were disappointed. The food is good and reasonable priced."

  • "I was expecting more of an atmosphere in this historic building. .. The back dining area was uninspired more like a church hall or VFW during a beef and beef and beer fund raising event and in full view and noise of the kitchen with no TV's to distract us from the decor. The sliders with caramelized onions were bland. The accompanying French fries were from bottom of the bag. Most were no longer than 1 1/2 inches long."

  • "We really enjoyed the fun and lively ambience! The beer list is spectacular!! A great way for our extended family to reconnect over the holiday!"

  • "At the outset, I appreciated that my request for a first floor seating was respected. Then, though many of the offerings on the menu for brunch were typical, the execution of each of the items ordered was quite good. The breakfast potatoes were particularly light and delicious. My companion and I would have liked to have sampled several of the beer/drink selections with our meals, but our usual designated driver could not join us and neither of us wanted to imbibe. Lastly, the rooms were tastefully decorated for the holidays and the service was fairly attentive."

  • "So, we thought 3's a charm because we kept giving Broad Axe a chance - first, dining with another family where it took forever to get our food on a Friday night (and the order was messed up); second, on Easter but because our order was in seconds after a party of 15, we had to wait 30 - 45 minutes for brunch/lunch, and TONIGHT (Christmas Eve), we waited 1 hr, 30 mins (YES!!!) for our food. The kitchen can't figure out how to process orders. On top of this, when we want to pay our bill because we've been at the restaurant for TWO hours and have small children, no one's to be found. We will NEVER return until management can figure out what it actually mean to run a restaurant. Dine at your own risk. Seriously."

  • "They did a great job renovating this place several years ago. It's beautiful inside. Nice beer selection. Menu is reasonable, and a lot better than it was when they first reopened. Avoid sitting near the door when it's cold outside."

  • "We had our Family Thanksgiving Dinner at the Broad Axe Tavern. Ages 7-79 and everyone enjoyed their meal! Plenty of parking and friendly staff!"

  • "After celebrating Thanksgiving during travel the weekend before, we chose the Broad Axe as an alternative to another turkey meal. I was looking for a burger and a good beer. We were a little dissappointed at the limited menu. I think it should have been better communicated upon making our reservation but I probably should have assumed so on a big holiday. The food was good but not great. Prime rib was so-so. The salmon and ravioli dishes were very good. Carrots were almost raw. Our server was attentive and helpful (the dining room was less than half full). Prices were higher than usual--I assume we had to pay the "holiday premium". As always, the beer list is great."

  • "Service was bad. Waiter had no clue what he was doing. I ordered Sonoma Cutrer and he gave it to the table next to me. He brought out soup but no spoon. And he wasn't funny. Any way, the food was good. I had salmon stuffed with crab' Au gratin' and veg med-- very good. The boys had turkey and trimmings. They were happy. Overall; it was a nice evening."

  • "Somewhat disappointed in the food this time. My husband had a bison dish that was not appealing. I had lobster and crab risotto which was okay. Not much taste to the risotto. Also, they tried to seat us in the bar area right next the stairs, despite the fact that there were lots of other tables open. We moved down one table which helped, but high top tables are not great when you have winter coats and my husband had a cowboy hat that he had to hold on his lap the whole time. We've eaten here before and this was definitely our least favorite meal."

  • "The Broad Axe Tavern was a delight. Our food was great and the beer too. My only complaint was that we had dinner reservations and when we were seated, it was all the way in the back next to a group of four who were pretty loud. I would have preferred a quieter spot and maybe in the front. Our waiter was very friendly, but a bit slow. He did recommend several different beers, and gave me a sample of one. It was delicious. Overall a very nice experience. I will be back!"
