Limited menu of mediocre dinner entrees. This place seems to want to be more like a sandwich shop. No rolls to munch on while waiting for appetizers. Starters were okay, but duck potstickers had no duck in them. Soggy, tasteless vegetables swimming in bland sauces. Prime rib was tough and did not even taste like beef. It was drowning in too much broth, almost like prime rib soup. Salmon was dry and salty from too much hoisin sauce. All dinners were served lukewarm but overcooked. The tavern seems more concerned with providing a wide selection of beer and wine than it does with serving quality food. The place was almost empty by 8:00 pm on a Saturday night. We won't go back until there is a new chef in the kitchen.

Our recent Sunday brunch experience was awful. The staff was polite, but totally unprepared to serve us. Our meals arrived half-cooked, despite the fact the long wait. What a shame because the environs are charming.

Overall a fantastic place. This was a first time visit and we will definitely be returning. Food was great and our waiter was very friendly and accommodating. We had inquired about the fish taco’s and asked if they could be pan fried without the beer batter which they said was not an issue and turned out great. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the food did take quite a while to come out. As this was our first visit I’m not sure if it's the norm or not but again it was well worth the wait.

This was the second time at the restaurant. Love the beer the selections and beer thoughfulness. Food is good but the service times with a group of 8 to 11 were bad. The first time it was just slow. The second time was slow with a few errors. On a given night, I can understand that a kitchen is understaffed vs the crowd. I would hope a manager recognizes the situation and helps expedite or explain.

The Broad Axe Tavern is easy to find. The building is a picturesque stone building. The inside is quaintly appointed. It's very clean. The staff was courteous. The food was delicious, some of the best I've ever tasted. The food was served hot and as ordered (well done was well done and rare was rare). They had a long list of beer and wine, but since I had to return to work, I didn't get a chance to try any. I would definitely go back and would recommend this establishment as a great place to dine.

Came back with friends 3x in a month. Love the beers. The food was very good although, being a foodie with a chef for a friend (he came with us) we disagreed over some of the seasoning but still emptied our plates. I never thought to ask if the crab cakes, although full of crab and huge, had peppers in them, so I couldn't finish them. The rest of the table did so it was ok. I love the appetizers and could live on the duck dumplings especially. I've been asking for the same waiter because he remembered me and he's really sweet. Love that they're open late even if it's just bar food, which I love. Some of us don't get home til 1030p so to head over on a Friday night is terrific. Overall, I like BAT a lot and will go back

The service was very good. The food was good and the portion size was great because it was just the right amount without being overwhelming. The food presentation left a lot to be desired and looked as though it had just been thrown together and was not attractive at all. The house chardonnay was on the bitter side.

This was my first visit to the Broad Axe Tavern and it was great. We had a group of 15 people for a post funeral luncheon and everyone was very pleased with the event . Many came in from other states and they suggested that we use the Broad Axe for other future family events Hopefully not funerals. Thanks again for a pleasant luncheon. Jim McMunn

We had the special Prime Rib Dinner on a Friday night, and it was extremely good. Went fathers day, table of 7, 6:30. Dining room quite. No music, TV's on,no sound. Drinks, all fine, except warm bottle of beer. 1 issue, bar tender had no idea how to add a little fruit flavor to sweeten up a mojito. Instead offered other non rum, fruit flavored drinks, obviously no bar skills. Water instead was ordered. Burger, Salads, Chick Parm, Grilled Shrimp, Salmon ,BBQ Brisket, all just OK. Flank Steak special. One big dry hunk of grey meat. Not sliced at all as you would expect a flank steak to be. Very odd. Service was pleasant. No dessert.

Saturday night dinner was an enjoyable experience. The Tavern came to life and provided an energetic ambiance, much like you would expect at this location a century ago. The updated menu provided many tempting choices. The 12 oz. grilled pork chop became a new favorite. Return trips are warranted to experience all that the menu has to offer. Our server, Sean, was a delight! We'll be returning.

The food was pretty good but the service was slow. The servers that brought the food out had no idea whose dinner went to whom. It took a long time for the meals to come out. The people at the bar were loud. For the family dinner we were having to celebrate a birthday, we shouldn't really have to hear loud mouths at the bar while we are eating our dinner. Two of us ordered the french onion soup and discovered that it was a spicy tomato with cheese on top! Yuck!

On a fairly regular basis there are 10 to 14 of us who come for Sunday Brunch before going to Act 2 Playhouse in Ambler. The menu is always the same....variety of egg dishes, pancakes, lunch, etc. Always served by a delightful, professional staff checking for coffee refills or any other requests. The price is exceptionally reasonable, rarely exceeding $20.00 pp. We're usually seated on the inside "porch" which is more private than the room with the bar.

Booked the Mother's day brunch and was disapointed at the choices and display of the buffet. It sounded better on paper. This brunch was priced at a premium for the holiday and beverages were not even included. It was not until a guest who was with us requested a third refill of Apple Juice, did the waitress warn us that we would be charged for each refill. $2.50 for a glass of apple juice is ridiculous. There are other options in the area for brunch that give you much more for the $$$$.

Though people and service were decent, I was not impressed with the quality of food. For prices paid, I would have expected bread or something before meal. Coconut Shrimp appetizer was good but overpriced--5 small shrimp--Chicken Parm was okay, but again, bread of some sort would have made it better. Beef Short Ribs were good, but not out of this world. Probably won't be back. Huge Beer menu, however I am not a beer drinker so therefore the food would be what would bring me back. Just overall feel for the quality of the food, better pricing would have been appropriate or extras like soup or salad. Unfortunately I find chain restaurants like Olive Garden, Red Lobster and The Cheesecake factory to be better which doesn't say much.

Our party of four was seated quickly at 5:45pm in a booth. Our server was pleasant and helpful. Unfortunately, we were all treated to very loud televison broadcast of the Kentucky Derby whether we wanted it or not. The food arrived fairly quickly, but the bbq pulled pork sandwiches were dry and my steak tacos contained more gristle than edible meat. I've had better food from chain taverns.

We went to the Broad Axe on a Saturday night. The place was so very noisy that we could not talk. The food was very mediocre, (I had Prime Rib, my wife had short ribs ) ; the service was very slow and inattentive. My Prime Rib dinner was supposed to be served with a baked potato: it was served with mashed. When I complained to the waiter he said that they were out of baked. He offered a different substitute potato - I agreed - but it was not served until after I had finished my meal. No - we will not return to this restaurant.
