Broad Axe is always a great place to go and is one of our favorites. The menu is great and reasonably priced for the quality of food you get and the beer list is amazing. There is of course the charm of this place being as it is the oldest bar/tavern/pub in Pennsylvania and the second oldest in the country.

Had dinner with friends before an 8pm show. We were seated at 6pm and had to push our waiter to get out by 745pm to make our show. Long, long breaks between courses. One diner had a burger which he enjoyed. My pasta dish tasted like some component of it had been burned. Another diner's tuna was underdone. Just fair.

I had a roasted beet salad. Read:bowl of romaine lettuce with diced canned beets & feta sprinkled on top. Husband's Skippack Salad was elaborately described with nuts, cranberries, bacon, apples and goat cheese but was a large bowl of romaine with a few of the above sprinkled on top. Husband ordered the Grilled Shrimp Skewers which tasted like the cap came off the "herb blend". It was inedible. The waitress took it back and brought him fish and chips in place which were uninspired. I had the Lobster/Crab Risotto which was tolerable but again nothing to write home about. Even the carrot cake we split at the end tasted like a Pepperidge Farm defrosted cake. In addition the waitress seemed anxious to minimize her trips to the kitchen.

We had an early dinner due to Theater reservations. Our server was EXCELLENT. I love how they remodeled the entire restaurant. It was a rainy, ugly evening and the booth was cozy. I had a French Martini which was very good. The Seafood Chowder is delicious. I had the Prime Rib cooked perfectly and my husband had the Talapia which was also perfect. We've enjoyed the Broad Axe before but not recently. We only choose it due to it's location to the theater but it will be on our A list now!

We entertained friends here on a Sat. night-party of 6. Arrived on time- table ready---almost, set for 4. We sat upstairs with several empty tables so noise was not an issue. Service on the other hand was way off. Our waitress was rushed and it showed. We could not order drinks fast enough for her- then waited for delivery. We laughed as she handed each drink to the wrong person. We ordered dinner and waited- she ran up and down the stairs many times. Eventually she came to check on how one person's salad was, to find it never arrived. Down and up again, gave him the wrong salad and right behind her were the servers with the dinners. The dishes were handed to the wrong diners, and disappeared. Wait staff overwhelmed. Will not go back.

My boyfriend's birthday was the special occasion. It was so easy to book the reservation. I even put in the additional comments about a cheesecake slice because it's our inside joke and forgot about it but they didn't! I was amazed and it was so quiet and so elegant. I was just so happy. My whole family loved it. The beer and wine list was phenomenal. The.crab fondue is addicting! We will definitely be coming back.

This was supposed to be a birthday celebration for my husband and family. We were taken upstairs where the ambience was terrible. In had my heart set on ordering scallops but was informed they didn't have any. So I ordered the crab cakes with an gratin potatoes. when our order came, it was mashed potatoes! The waitress never even offered to bring us bread - I had to ask for it!

My husband and I went out to dinner with the expectation of being around other people, rather than eating at home alone. Unfortunately we missed out on the ground floor ambience, as we were seated upstairs with a few patrons who were finishing their meals when we arrived. When they left, we found ourselves isolated in a dark, unattractive, empty room at a wobbly table at the top of the stairs. We thought the ribs and salmon were so-so, the veggies were bland, and we liked the mashed potatoes but not the french fries. Our server was good, and she shared the tavern's ghost story with us, but the food and overall experience were very disappointing.

We have been going to Broad Axe since we moved here 3 years ago. In fact, it was the first restaurant we went to and it holds a special place for us. Recently though, the food has been less than stellar. Our cheese plate was more than inadequate--I could have serves up some more tasty and better presented at home. My pulled pork was barely warm and my daughter's pasta was over cooked. This used to be one of our favorite spots...not anymore.

Limited menu of mediocre dinner entrees. This place seems to want to be more like a sandwich shop. No rolls to munch on while waiting for appetizers. Starters were okay, but duck potstickers had no duck in them. Soggy, tasteless vegetables swimming in bland sauces. Prime rib was tough and did not even taste like beef. It was drowning in too much broth, almost like prime rib soup. Salmon was dry and salty from too much hoisin sauce. All dinners were served lukewarm but overcooked. The tavern seems more concerned with providing a wide selection of beer and wine than it does with serving quality food. The place was almost empty by 8:00 pm on a Saturday night. We won't go back until there is a new chef in the kitchen.

Overall a fantastic place. This was a first time visit and we will definitely be returning. Food was great and our waiter was very friendly and accommodating. We had inquired about the fish taco’s and asked if they could be pan fried without the beer batter which they said was not an issue and turned out great. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the food did take quite a while to come out. As this was our first visit I’m not sure if it's the norm or not but again it was well worth the wait.

This was the second time at the restaurant. Love the beer the selections and beer thoughfulness. Food is good but the service times with a group of 8 to 11 were bad. The first time it was just slow. The second time was slow with a few errors. On a given night, I can understand that a kitchen is understaffed vs the crowd. I would hope a manager recognizes the situation and helps expedite or explain.

The Broad Axe Tavern is easy to find. The building is a picturesque stone building. The inside is quaintly appointed. It's very clean. The staff was courteous. The food was delicious, some of the best I've ever tasted. The food was served hot and as ordered (well done was well done and rare was rare). They had a long list of beer and wine, but since I had to return to work, I didn't get a chance to try any. I would definitely go back and would recommend this establishment as a great place to dine.

Came back with friends 3x in a month. Love the beers. The food was very good although, being a foodie with a chef for a friend (he came with us) we disagreed over some of the seasoning but still emptied our plates. I never thought to ask if the crab cakes, although full of crab and huge, had peppers in them, so I couldn't finish them. The rest of the table did so it was ok. I love the appetizers and could live on the duck dumplings especially. I've been asking for the same waiter because he remembered me and he's really sweet. Love that they're open late even if it's just bar food, which I love. Some of us don't get home til 1030p so to head over on a Friday night is terrific. Overall, I like BAT a lot and will go back

The service was very good. The food was good and the portion size was great because it was just the right amount without being overwhelming. The food presentation left a lot to be desired and looked as though it had just been thrown together and was not attractive at all. The house chardonnay was on the bitter side.

Went fathers day, table of 7, 6:30. Dining room quite. No music, TV's on,no sound. Drinks, all fine, except warm bottle of beer. 1 issue, bar tender had no idea how to add a little fruit flavor to sweeten up a mojito. Instead offered other non rum, fruit flavored drinks, obviously no bar skills. Water instead was ordered. Burger, Salads, Chick Parm, Grilled Shrimp, Salmon ,BBQ Brisket, all just OK. Flank Steak special. One big dry hunk of grey meat. Not sliced at all as you would expect a flank steak to be. Very odd. Service was pleasant. No dessert.

Saturday night dinner was an enjoyable experience. The Tavern came to life and provided an energetic ambiance, much like you would expect at this location a century ago. The updated menu provided many tempting choices. The 12 oz. grilled pork chop became a new favorite. Return trips are warranted to experience all that the menu has to offer. Our server, Sean, was a delight! We'll be returning.

The food was pretty good but the service was slow. The servers that brought the food out had no idea whose dinner went to whom. It took a long time for the meals to come out. The people at the bar were loud. For the family dinner we were having to celebrate a birthday, we shouldn't really have to hear loud mouths at the bar while we are eating our dinner. Two of us ordered the french onion soup and discovered that it was a spicy tomato with cheese on top! Yuck!

On a fairly regular basis there are 10 to 14 of us who come for Sunday Brunch before going to Act 2 Playhouse in Ambler. The menu is always the same....variety of egg dishes, pancakes, lunch, etc. Always served by a delightful, professional staff checking for coffee refills or any other requests. The price is exceptionally reasonable, rarely exceeding $20.00 pp. We're usually seated on the inside "porch" which is more private than the room with the bar.
