Dating back to 1681, The Broad Axe Tavern is one of America's oldest taverns. Having just undergone a multi-million dollar renovation, we welcome you to come in to see and enjoy this historic land mark. The pointed stone, hardwood and slate tiled floors give the restaurant its old world charm.… Its leather booths, wood tables and iron fixtures also give it a casual elegance. The menu is a eclectic mix of small plates for grazing, grilled pizzas, large plates and tavern sandwiches. Guest favorites include Steamed Mussels done three ways, Mid Atlantic Seafood Chowder and Crab Cakes, Grilled Choice NY Strip Steak, Our Award-Winning BBQ Ribs and our Famous Carnival Ribbon Fries. The Broad Axe bar is a great place to meet and greet with sixteen craft and imported beers on tap, with another sixty in bottles. "Somewhat disappointed. Our party of five, with reservations, were seated on the third floor, the banquet room. Since I love the ambience and charm of the Broad Axe, I was not happy with this seating. The buffet choices were adequate but not excellent. I may be wrong/read something incorrectly and I expected an omelet station. We were told that we were receiving the same food that was being served on the first floor. I really would have preferred a first floor seating and I will not consider a brunch meal at the Broad Axe again."

"My wife and I had a mixed experience. Both of us enjoyed the look of the the restaurant and the beer selection. My salmon was very good. However, her short ribs were extremely dry without much flavor and my small cup of soup seemed like it came from a can. The food came quickly but the waitress, while competent, was not outgoing or very friendly. I would try it again but my wife is reluctant."

"We were rushed by our server and the steak were burnt, both pittsburgh on the outside and over well on the inside.... We ordered med.!!!

Serve rushed us. We left 20% because i know that's the only she makes money, but we usually leave a bigger tip if we receeve better service... I think she wwas in a hurry to get out to party as this was late on a Friday night( about 10 p.m.) never go here late!!!... that's for sure..."

"Would probably not go there again. It was loud, service was not good, food was OK but I have had much better. The lighting also was not good. I was suprised they never even brought out bread for beginning appetizer. Would definitely not recommend."

"The kitchen needs some help, primarily with delivering main courses that are served hot and made as described in the menu. An example: My sirloin tips was served tepid, some meat shoe-leather-chewy, others nice. The chipotle mashed potatoes was too spicy to enjoy (and I like spicy food). My mother's salad with roasted beets and blue cheese was served with Feta. Another order of a chicken breast sandwich came with cheese on it, when no cheese was listed nor requested. Once brought to the server's attention, the salad and sandwich were corrected.

On a positive note, the beer list is extensive. A Belgium pale ale was enjoyed. The server, in an attempt to apologize for the shortcomings of the kitchen, served three delicious desserts com"

"Will NOT be coming back. Here's why:1. Salad served with meal instead of before meal.2. 1 person in our party did not get dinner with the rest of us. Order never given to chef. So they watched us eat and then their dinner was served half way through. We were not charged for his meal.3. Bill came and we were charged too much for drinks. The price on the bill was not what was stated in the menu. This was corrected."

"Our first time in and we visited on Valentines day with a group of 4. Beer selection was superb and our waiter/bartender was beyond accomidating & gracious. He didn't miss a beat, and provided us with great beer pairing suggestions, that went perfectly with our meals and our usual taste. As advised from our server, everyone went with the special for dinner and we all had the Lobster bisque. It was amazing! The sea bass was buttery and cooked to perfection. The price was perfect ($50 for each couple) and we all had a wonderful time. We will be back again to try the regular menu."

"My boyfriend and I both ordered the serloin burger, and it was excellent and served hot. It was cooked to our preferences as well. The waitress was polite, cute, and answered all of our questions about the food and checked in on us often. The beer and wine lists were long. This place is a real gem for those who want to try new interesting beers. My only qualm with the restaurant is that we were seated with our backs to the bar, which could get loud. However it is called a tavern, and it should be respected for what it is rather than how I wish it was different. Definitely a good noise level for families with kids- you wont stand out! Also, the duck potstickers were rather small for the price."
