  • "This was my first time here - I had a taco salad which was average. Our server was excellent and the we enjoyed the historic ambiance of the restaurant. Started getting a little loud as the crowd grew. All in all, I would come back again but would order something else."

  • "This was my first visit to the Broad Axe Tavern and it was great. We had a group of 15 people for a post funeral luncheon and everyone was very pleased with the event . Many came in from other states and they suggested that we use the Broad Axe for other future family events Hopefully not funerals. Thanks again for a pleasant luncheon. Jim McMunn"

  • "We had the special Prime Rib Dinner on a Friday night, and it was extremely good. I asked for a rare piece and it was indeed rare. The mashed potatoes I ordered were plentiful, but would have been better with warm gravy on top. The desert was outstanding, and our waitress was youn, sweet and very helpful."

  • "Went fathers day, table of 7, 6:30. Dining room quite. No music, TV's on,no sound. Drinks, all fine, except warm bottle of beer. 1 issue, bar tender had no idea how to add a little fruit flavor to sweeten up a mojito. Instead offered other non rum, fruit flavored drinks, obviously no bar skills. Water instead was ordered. Burger, Salads, Chick Parm, Grilled Shrimp, Salmon ,BBQ Brisket, all just OK. Flank Steak special. One big dry hunk of grey meat. Not sliced at all as you would expect a flank steak to be. Very odd. Service was pleasant. No dessert."

  • "We tried Broad Axe for the first time for fathers day brunch. The location is great and the food was great. Its a kids friendly place and they even had a high chair for our little one. Our teenagers were able to eat without complaining about the selection. That alone made it wonderful!"

  • "Saturday night dinner was an enjoyable experience. The Tavern came to life and provided an energetic ambiance, much like you would expect at this location a century ago. The updated menu provided many tempting choices. The 12 oz. grilled pork chop became a new favorite. Return trips are warranted to experience all that the menu has to offer. Our server, Sean, was a delight! We'll be returning."

  • "Have not had a bad meal at the Broadax Tavern! I highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner!"

  • "The food was pretty good but the service was slow. The servers that brought the food out had no idea whose dinner went to whom. It took a long time for the meals to come out. The people at the bar were loud. For the family dinner we were having to celebrate a birthday, we shouldn't really have to hear loud mouths at the bar while we are eating our dinner. Two of us ordered the french onion soup and discovered that it was a spicy tomato with cheese on top! Yuck!"

  • "I thought the service was a little slow, especially given the time of day. Heather was very friendly and attentive . The food was very good, and the portions were generous."

  • "On a fairly regular basis there are 10 to 14 of us who come for Sunday Brunch before going to Act 2 Playhouse in Ambler. The menu is always the same....variety of egg dishes, pancakes, lunch, etc. Always served by a delightful, professional staff checking for coffee refills or any other requests. The price is exceptionally reasonable, rarely exceeding $20.00 pp. We're usually seated on the inside "porch" which is more private than the room with the bar."

  • "Our first visit was not a disappointment. Our group of eight enjoyed the finely prepared food, selection of beverages and cordial service. It was a very busy day and our server worked very hard to accommodate us."

  • "Five of us were at Broad Axe Tavern for Mother's Day dinner (5PM). Each had a different dinner and all enjoyed the food. The starters we selected were good as well. Not outstanding but everything we had was very good. We will be back."

  • "Booked the Mother's day brunch and was disapointed at the choices and display of the buffet. It sounded better on paper. This brunch was priced at a premium for the holiday and beverages were not even included. It was not until a guest who was with us requested a third refill of Apple Juice, did the waitress warn us that we would be charged for each refill. $2.50 for a glass of apple juice is ridiculous. There are other options in the area for brunch that give you much more for the $$$$."

  • "Though people and service were decent, I was not impressed with the quality of food. For prices paid, I would have expected bread or something before meal. Coconut Shrimp appetizer was good but overpriced--5 small shrimp--Chicken Parm was okay, but again, bread of some sort would have made it better. Beef Short Ribs were good, but not out of this world. Probably won't be back. Huge Beer menu, however I am not a beer drinker so therefore the food would be what would bring me back. Just overall feel for the quality of the food, better pricing would have been appropriate or extras like soup or salad. Unfortunately I find chain restaurants like Olive Garden, Red Lobster and The Cheesecake factory to be better which doesn't say much. "

  • "A decent place for a variety of types of meals, from sandwiches to full dinners. We had their Cinco de Mayo menu. Tacos and burritos great. Desserts not their strong suit. Great beer list. Cocktails well done."

  • "Our party of four was seated quickly at 5:45pm in a booth. Our server was pleasant and helpful. Unfortunately, we were all treated to very loud televison broadcast of the Kentucky Derby whether we wanted it or not. The food arrived fairly quickly, but the bbq pulled pork sandwiches were dry and my steak tacos contained more gristle than edible meat. I've had better food from chain taverns."

  • "We went to the Broad Axe on a Saturday night. The place was so very noisy that we could not talk. The food was very mediocre, (I had Prime Rib, my wife had short ribs ) ; the service was very slow and inattentive. My Prime Rib dinner was supposed to be served with a baked potato: it was served with mashed. When I complained to the waiter he said that they were out of baked. He offered a different substitute potato - I agreed - but it was not served until after I had finished my meal. No - we will not return to this restaurant."

  • "Seven of us went to dinner at the Broad Axe to celebrate a birthday. There was not one good meal in the group. The filet and salmon were below average. Overall the dinner was very disappointing."

  • "I've been to the Broad Axe before. It was soon after its restoration and was no too impressed, food and service. I first began going to the Broad Axe when I moved to Broad Axe in 1986, some changes for better or worst. I miss the Chicago burger and onion loaf but this last visit was very enjoyable. I had the Fish and Chips which had to be the best Fish I have had in the area. Short of coming wrapped in newspaper it was the real deal. My wife had a lighter meal, the fire cracker shrimp and fries. She enjoyed them. The shrimp were small but many. Beer was crisp and refreshing. The servers were very attentive and helpful with the menu. I do plan on returning sooner than last time."

  • "I think I was expected more from reviewing the menu online. The service was great and the food was fine, but it was nothing special. I anticipated better but there wasn't anything wrong with the food we got either. Pretty average bar food but great wine and beer selection."

  • "A group of six of us went out for dinner at Broad Axe on a Saturday night and we were pleasantly surprised. We were welcomed by a very energetic and friendly staff, and since we had a reservation, we were taken right to our table. We had to wait a little bit for drinks but it was a busy Saturday night and our server was very friendly in between getting our drinks. The food was very good - each person in our group got something different and everyone was happy with their meal. I'd definitely go back again."

  • "Haven't been to the Broad Axe in years but the food was consistently great...... not so any more . My friend ordered a $12 "sirloin burger" and asked for it to be cooked "medium" expecting a nice juicy generous patty of beef piled high on a roll with lettuce, tomato , onion, etc. . Her burger arrived, well-done (actually more like charbroiled to a crisp) . It looked like a burger from a fast food establishment accompanied by a serving of soggy fries. She sent the burger back, but when the replacement came out, it was still very small, thin and well done. Very disappointing , especially for a $12 "sirloin burger"."
