Our waitress was phenomenal - took her suggestion and ordered the hanger steak and it was truly heavenly. Great ambiance and view outside (outdoor dining looks lovely but it was a little chilly). Each one of us tried something different and each dish was prepared to perfection. Great presentation, fresh ingredients (many from the garden behind the restaurant), and wonderful variety in the menu. Notable were the mushroom ravioli and the tagliatelle pasta. We all split the pizza of the day which had amazing crust and fresh cheese and veges. The setting is idyllic and the food was excellent. I don't like buffets but everything at this buffet is carefully prepared and put out in small batches. It is not a huge buffet but has a little something for every palate (oysters, huge shrimp, smoked salmon, tri-tip, pizza, pasta, salads, and various breakfast items.). The wait staff always look great, blue long sleeve dress shirts and ties. Management comes around to see that everything is good and if we need anything. The interior is very pleasing and upscale. The patio is one of the best in the Napa Valley. . Beautiful gardens and herb gardens that you look over and the Wine Train passes right behind the gardens. Quite so that you can talk and hear each other at your table. We were late , but they were patient and even offered us the highly desirable outdoor patio with a lovely view of the hills. Service was professional; deferential and cordial but friendly and never intrusive.
The food was exquisite and extremely reasonably priced for the caliber of the upscale cuisine. Try the crab salad or the tender-crisp tempura green bean starters. Nimon ranch ham melted in the mouth. After eating we toured their kitchen gardens out back, near a lovely open-air shady lounge area with outdoor furniture and a fountain. We hadn't been to the wine country in ages, and we were looking for a scenic place with a patio and great food. It was so beautiful sitting on the patio, with the vineyards and gardens, hills and trees. Peaceful, serene, the perfect place for outdoor dining. All 4 of us were very happy with our dinners. The salad and vegetables were fresh from the garden. Our filet was delicious and the Pinot Noir suggested by the waiter was the perfect pairing. Our filets were a bit underdone for "medium" and a bit cool, but they quickly brought them back and they were the right doneness and temperature. My ONE complaint - I made reservations a month in advance. Requested patio seating because we were celebrating. A couple arrived before us (we were 20 minutes early) and did NOT have reservations. They were told it would be 15 minutes for a patio table. We were then told the same thing... however we were not sat until 40 minutes AFTER our resevation time. The other couple was sat before us. My husband had lamb and he said it very possibly the best lamb he had ever had.
My only real complaint is that the wine list is extremely overpriced. Just seems to me that in the heart of wine country, the wine should be more affordable. We ended up having a bottle of a French cote-du-rhone, which I think we paid around $40 for.
