Second time dinning here. Really liked it the first time but the (small) menu changed and liked it less this time around. Most dishes are creative and well executed, but not all. Case in point, I am not sure what they were thinking with the shrimp cocktail appetizer. We tried it because surely there must be a twist on this, but sadly there wasn't (8 shrimps for $29). Our favorite was the pork shoulder. The smoked duck was great too but the large size (2 legs) was too small to share between 4 diners (everything is meant to be shared). The Albacore tuna has a strong flavor and is not for everyone. Service was slow and we got a table right by the front door even though we had reservations. It gets very loud in there too.

The service, ambiance and bar were great. The food however... The oxtail was overcooked and over salted. Not sure what the chef was going for on the tuna crust, it really distracted from the fish, which was average at best. The sweet peppers were, again, overcooked - a mushy preparation better suited for an assisted living facility. Your mileage may vary.

The redecorated dining area and bar is open and light, with very nice touches all around, makes you feel comfortable. The bread isn't just bread it is something that must be tried the flavors were fantastic. We had the Shrimp Cocktail with Hoisin sauce which was a delightful change in cocktail sauce. The Pork with Kimchi Apples is another must try, pork was flavorful and cooked to perfection, don't ignore the apples by saying you don't care for Kimchi, they are addictive. The duck was also moist and flavorful. We finished off with the pound cake and spice ice cream, the pound cake was moist and delicious. Over all a very good experience and a must try for a newer restaurant in town.

After last minute search, I came with my family for my Birthday. With an early reservation, the ambiance was relaxed, great timing with the service, and no issues with noise level. I love the simple and sweet white washed style of decor, very inviting. Thoroughly enjoyed the bread appetizer, the steak tartare, the pork shoulder, the mackerel and the roasted peppers. My only complaint might be that the server seemed a bit aloof and not sure how to facilitate our indecisive group. Nonetheless, we ended up with a great meal and a fun evening.

Warm, inviting initial welcome. Nice vibe. Good: tri-tip with spicy peppers, perfect spice! Duck: exceptional, crisp, tender, hot. Roasted mackerel: tender, deliciously salty. Steak tartare: intriguing, lively flavors (we fought over the last bite). Tamarind salad: fresh, tasty. Bread: crusty, buttery. Ugly: piled grayish, roasted sweet peppers seeds in. Cold, stale croutons, strange strawberry catsup. Blah, smores-ish dessert billed as torte. Bad: Me "Tell me about this dish?" Server "It says right there." Menus list food; servers flavor it with description. Didn't happen. In a place like this, I expect descriptions of dishes as they're served. Nope. We like tipping well. Service improved, but not enough to satisfy, as the tip reflected.

Always a great experience with a regularly new menu depending on what's local and fresh. Their steak tartare is the best, and one of my favorites. The cocktails are always fresh and creative. They have a new salad on the menu that includes shaved anchovy and pickled huckleberries. Great place to eat, drink, and hang out with friends.

One of the best new places I have tried in a very long time! What a great dinner. 1st time there the atmosphere made me feel completely comfortable and relaxed when I walked in. Clean simple decor. The menu was small, but in my opinion, I prefer that over a menu that gives me pages of options. There were plenty of options for our group of 5 ranging from vegan to us carnivores. Do a few things and do them exceptionally well, and that is what they do here! The quality and creativity were just outstanding! The freshness of farm to table clearly comes thru. The legumes were incredible! The drink menu was just as creative as the food! I will be sure to make this a place I frequent on a regular basis!

A great place to go with a couple of people and share a bunch of small plates and get a little of everything. The menu is small but well thought out with a nice seasonal variety and has a little something for everyone. The steak tartare and the pork are standouts but everything is tasty and has a nice balance of familiar flavors with an Asia twist.

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at Brimmer & Heeltap last weekend and had a wonderful experience. We sat outside in their comfortable garden, which I'd highly recommend trying while the weather is still cooperative. Their small servings are perfect for 2 to share, and everything we sampled was excellent. The mizuna salad, braised pork shoulder, and chocolate tort were particularly delicious. The setting is great, the service spot-on, and the food is fantastic. Can't wait to return!

B&H really does the Seattle restaurant right. It's got the high-end interesting and tasty food that Seattle foodies have come to expect. The inside is really cute with interesting layout, fun color pallet, exposed kitchen, and a floor made entirely of pennies! The service was impeccably supplied by the cutest server imaginable (everyone at our table agreed). She was very knowledgeable, attentive, and personable, without being overbearing at all. Fantastic experience, will definitely go again (and again). Get the tuna!

Staff were great, cocktails were delicious and interesting, the bread starter was outstanding. I would give the restaurant 5 stars, except that one of my dishes - the pork - was extremely tough and chewy; I couldn't finish it. Every fourth piece or so was delicious but the majority was like leather. That said, I'd still go back. You can order dishes in small plates, which were big enough to serve as moderate main courses as opposed to some "family style sharing plates" that are tiny. The ambiance was lively but not too loud. We were a group of 30-somethings out for a birthday celebration and we really enjoyed.

We were seated at a table by the window, but it was hot and loud, and got much louder as more people arrived. The crab trifle was delightful, flavors and textures contrasted nicely. The vegetable dishes were okay, not very memorable but not bad. Drinks pretty much the same. The bread was good but it was a surprise to receive a single large oven-roasted slice, would have been nice to be told in advance, this was more like garlic bread style. Both our meat dishes were disappointingly dry and so similarly and heavily spiced that we couldn't tell the difference between the pork shoulder and the grass-fed beef. It's a creative place so it'll likely improve, but all 4 of us were not impressed and probably won't go back given the price we paid.

Atmosphere was comfortable and inviting. The service was great, cocktails were incredible and the food was ok, but nothing to write home about. We found it difficult to really enjoy the food as there was a large fruit fly issue in the back dining room that kind of put a damper on the experience as we found ourselves swatting the flies away from the food and sifting them out of our drinks more than being able to enjoy what we ordered. Not really sure if it's the restaurants fault or if it's just fruit fly season. Nonetheless, the place has a lot of potential and we would come back again for a happy hour.

And to top it off, I met the owner, told her how much I enjoyed the experience and ask here where else in Seattle I should eat. She was so gracious and gave me about 10 different places to try. But of course, I will be back here on my next trip to Seattle.

We spent a long weekend celebrating our wedding anniversary, and kicked things off right with dinner at B&H. Very good food expertly prepared and presented with a smile. Drinks list is special as well. While we miss Le Gourmand, B&H, with it's noticeable influence from Joule and Revel, is juast as suitable a neighborhood hang out as well as a destination for those outside the Greenwood/Ballard circle.

It's not often that I go to a restaurant and try EVERYTHING on the menu, but for my recent meal at B&H, I nearly did! Then again, when the chef tells me everything is good, I guess I felt compelled to try everything! Interesting appetizers, amazing bread, fresh and intriguing vegetables, succulent seafood and a simply savory selection of meats. The line-up of cocktails and other libations is pretty remarkable too! I would dine here very often, lest the fact that I live 2000 miles away. Regardless, I will be back!

Great food, great service, very nice atmosphere. This restaurant is so popular, and rightfully so, that we now need to make reservations when just a few short months ago we could walk in with no waiting. The owner and staff make a point of knowing us and engaging in short conversations each visit which makes us feel quite at home and very welcome. We make a point of having dinner there at least once per month. My favorite dish has been the fresh salmon, lightly seasoned and cooked perfectly. The same goes for the other fish, beef, and pork dishes. Their seasonal vegetable dishes are unique and delightful as are the desserts.

Went on a Friday night and sat in the attractive dining room. The food was very good, but the menu is fairly small and it's expensive. The 8 oz. entree sizes we're often over $30. I think if you eat on the patio and just get smaller plates it could be fine. Also this dining room is not "energetic" as Open Table calls it, it was loud. Loud like it was hard to have a conversation.

I've said this before: We eat at all the outstanding restaurants in Seattle, and Brimmer & Heeltap is our favorite. Superb food - especially great with a group of 4 or 6 where a large number of the small plates can be shared. Great cocktails. Excellent service - lightweight and friendly. Wonderful atmosphere: from hipsters on dates to parents with kids to old fogies like us (we went as parents with kids, but our kids are in their 30's). The owner is always there, always warm. Particularly not to be missed: steak tartare, chilled dungeness crab trifle, seasonal scallops (currently), broiled pork shoulder. This place is a treasure.

Everything is appealing on the brief-ish menu and we enjoyed the steak tartare with house made nori crackers, the healthy, tasty grilled salad and the pork shoulder with apples given the kimchee treatment. Jen is a gracious, expert hostess in the front of the house. Our friendly server gave us just the right amount of attentiveness and good advice on how much to order. We like that wines by the glass are also available in a carafe, about a half bottle's worth. We came on a warm evening. They don't have AC but with doors open and effective fans, it was comfortable.

When you walk in, the place is stunning. Extremely well decorated, open, clean. Definitely they put love into building the place. Had a 5:45 reservation. When we arrived, the restaurant was empty and only half the patio was also empty. I asked to sit outside, and they said no, since you needed to be a party of at least 3. I understand that. But when you are EMPTY, that just doesn't sit well with me. t. The menu was weak and limited. Had 3 dishes. Steak tartar -> under seasoned. Tuna -> was a little fishy and over cooked. We left after that and headed over to another place in Fremont and had a much better night after going to a better establishment where they had their stuff together. Would not return or recommend.

Small neighborhood restaurant with sophisticated foodie type choices. The menu is varied but limited. You can order a small or large plates of most items. Items are meant to be shared. Portions are small but we felt full after the meal. The asparagus dish was exceptional, fish was excellent, entree pork was good but overcooked and the Key Lime Tart was among the best I have had. The strawberry shortcake was average at best. The shortcake was nice but not enough ice cream to make it much more than eating plain cake with berries on it. The small bar was packed early on a Saturday night and looked like fun. Hostess was awesome but server was just ok....I felt like he may have been new.

The pork with kimchi apples was overcooked to dry. The waitress argued with me about the wine and it was challenging to get to and from the restroom due to a design flaw: located at a busy intersection with a doorway and a wait service center. Also noisy. Way too much noise for a small space like this. The beets were excellent but I can't see returning for just one dish.
