A word from Brigantine La Mesa
A San Diego tradition since 1969, the Brigantine has received many accolades in our 40+ year history: "BEST SEAFOOD", "BEST CASUAL SEAFOOD", "BEST HAPPY HOUR", and even "BEST SWORDFISH IN THE WORLD", according to USA Today - just to name a few.

Well-known for our signature Clam Chowder, Grilled Swordfish, and Crème Brûlée, the Brigantine is a favorite among locals for consistently fresh seafood, succulent steaks and grilled meats.

With an updated nautical decor, the busy Oyster bar is hands-down the local favorite. Lush flowering foliage outdoors creates an elegant dining experience on one of two charming patios.

The Brigantine is a local institution and never disappoints. They did a menu re-fresh and it's quite good. They have generous cocktail and wine pours and the service is spot on. We had a simple grilled salmon on top of sautéed kale, bacon, and onions...and cornbread. We started with mussels. Very good stuff. This is not stuffy food...just well cooked basics that are comforting and satisfying. Our server was great. We eat here on special occasions and always have a good time. We live in the College Area, so this is a convenient alternative to downtown. Check it out!

The service was outstanding - Deanna was our waitress and she gave great menu advice. The food was excellent - I've been to probably every Brig in the County and it's always top notch. It's pricey - $180+tip for 4 (4 entrees, 2 wine/2 cocktails, no appetizers, split 2 salads). The restaurant itself is looking a little long in the tooth, but it's right down the street so at least I don't have to drive to the beach.

I always order fish here because it is always so good. I had the macadamia crusted-halibut which was excellent, as usual. The swordfish is a favorite too, and always on the menu. I usually have baked potato, which I am so happy they serve here. It isn't on the menu but they always have them. I chose the rice pilaf for a change, which was what came with the halibut. I didn't care for it much - it was ok at best. You can also get grilled asparagus rather than the usual vegetables, which was also very good.

I've been for lunch - it was great. Paid $100 for 2 for dinner w/o drinks, and was disappointed. The lobster was flavorless. Had the seafood combo - heavily battered with a touch chewey-like rubbery batter. I left the fish and mashed potatoes that was in the combo due to both poor texture and flavor.

Booked our reservations on line, requested a window seat if possible. Arrived at the restaurant, were able to grant us a window seat, which was fantastic. Had a wonderful dining experience, staff was friendly and our food was fantastic. I appreciated a wonderful time with my family, your restaurant made that possible. Kevin C

Requested a nice window seat for a special occasion at 5pm ( when you open and are not at capacity )and were seated at the table closest to a waiter's station with a partial window, over looking the parking lot. Not what we expected. There is a restaurant just across the freeway with views of a lake and similar food, service and prices. Am disappointed that a special request was not provided when I was told it would be ( make the reservation about a week before the date and at 5pm when they are opening and not full.

Reservation online worked great but the dining experience was poor. Waitress was attentive to us only when we got up and hunted her down or flagged her down. Meanwhile the server at the next table hovered and flirted loudly with the young women there. I was embarrassed for the restaurant and mentioned it to the manager who said his behavior was not acceptable and would mention it. Because our server made a mistake on one order our food sat under the warmer and deteriorated. They need to pay more attention to their business. We won't go back... Brigantine used to be a pretty good place to go but there are better places to go now.

We went to The Brignatine to celebrate my daughter's new job. We had a wonderful time, the food was great. I had the Sourdough Crusted Sea Bass and it was delicious. My mom ordered the Halibut and Husband the Mahi Mahi and both were tasty, too. The ambience was great, very comfortable and nice. I would definately recommend this restaurant for special occasions, romantic date...for anything.

Located the menu online. Chose what I wanted for the meal. Received menus and it was NOT on menu, so I asked for it anyway. The waitress asked the cook if it was possible since it had been the special from the previous night and he agreed that that would be fine. So glad I asked - it was a really nice meal. Hubby thought the fish was dry but I was pleased with everything especially the Brig salad! Have made the same salad at home every night since - yum yum!!!

We selected Brigantine La Mesa for our book club meeting, since we love to discuss books over a meal. Plus, the location was convenient for our group. The Brigantine accommodated our needs by placing us at a round table for our party of seven. We enjoyed our dinners, but was very impressed with the wait staff and how they handled seven "selective" eaters. Thank you for the great experience. We hope to come again when we have another book that pertains to seafood!

I've eaten at the Brigantine 3 times and have yet to leave unsatisfied. Sure the prices are a bit steep for everyday dining, but for special occasions this is the pace to go to get great seafood made to perfection. My last meal consisted of a macadamia nut encrusted halibut and my wife had the almond crusted sea bass paired with the house chardonnay. It was a delight!

We came to the Brig for an early Father's Day surprise for my husband. I made reservations, and we only waited 2 minutes considering how full the restaurant was. Our server was nice enough, but she just seemed a little behind. The food was just okay; we come to the Brig all the time, and this was the first time it was a full miss. It's not that it was horrible. I just think my expectations had already been set high. The Happy Hour can't be beat; so if one is going to go, go for that.
