Diner Reviews
  • "Congrats on the remodeled Brig! Still needs some interior glass walls to help dampen the loud noise. We sat in the corner booth & could hardly hear ourselves talk. I've always said that it's the sound of people enjoying themselves..and it is....but it's over the top! Calamari "strips" were extremely disappointing. Nice flavor but they should be called "sticks" and not "strips". Bring back the 1" wide strips! Prime Rib now a "wkend spcl" vs. daily. Big mistake. It was the best meat item on the menu before. We asked for a substitution from Chicken Piccata to the old Tequila Chicken (same chicken prep but w/ the Jalapeno Cheese Sauce.) It was SO good..thank you! Glad Stella is back on draft. Waiter, Ubaldo, was excellent! - John K"

  • "The remodeled Brigantine is very, very noisy and has lost all the ambiance of a very nice place to have special occasion dinners. The food was delicious and our waiter was wonderful, but I am not sure we will return."

  • "The new remodel left us cold just like the decor. TOO MUCH NOISE. We use to love this place with the wood and quiet dining. Now it looks like a Denny's remodel. Food and service still very good but its no longer a welcoming place to dine."

  • "Newly remodeled atmosphere is probably aimed @ 21-40 year olds. We are Seniors over 65, with money to spend on dining out frequently. Old ambiance was much quieter, more romantic, cozier. It was also more to the theme of the NAME of the restaurant, "Brigantine" and was a favorite of ours for Special Occasions 12+ times/year. We will likely replace our visits here with something like The Chart House or other high-end place to relax & celebrate. My lobster was tough & stringy. I won't order it if we ever visit here again."

  • "My wife and I have been going to the Escondido Brigantines for years. Food was always good, but the restaurant was getting tired looking and old fashioned. Not Now! The redesigned restaurant looks great. The food still as delicious as ever and the prices are still very reasonable."

  • "The place was always a neighborhood favorite of mine-- good for a girls lunch, or appetizers and a drink or a nice dinner. I loved the cozy atmosphere, the fireplace, the outdoor patio that felt like a garden. The recent remodel left me so disappointed. I understand it needed freshening up, but I think they made poor choices. The bar area was enlarged and is attractive but noisy. The dining room lost the fireplace and did not seem upscale in the choice of furnishings. The white chairs and cheap-looking brown tables looked like a pancake house. The lights above the tables are nice but the mass of white bulb lights overhead were awful. Outdoors, they lost the garden feel and pond. Food ( fish) was very good but ambiance may keep me away."

  • "The restaurant just reopened after a major renovation. I liked the old nautical decor and romantic ambiance so much better. The new layout makes the restaurant very noisy. The food and service are always great."

  • "A new look & feel and probably more improvements than not. V lively with an apparently huge increase in staff. All the familiar faces but the restaurant has a fresher, 'with it' look. The menu is inviting & more varied. What was coming out of the kitchen, which is now largely open, looks great. It's not the same place but that's not a bad thing!"

  • "Friends that have been to Brigantine pre-remodel were eager to see the improvements. We were not disappointed. We had the best seat outdoors at the fire/rock table. Looking forward to returning when the water feature is up and running. Food was excellent. Nice wine selection. Will be making plans to come by with more friends for lunch and brunch."

  • "We arrived at our reservation time and were promptly seated. The restaurant staff was festively attired with beads and hats, and were also distributing these items to guests that wanted them. We ordered beverages from the bar and were quickly served. We shared a salad which was tasty but had a little too much dressing. There was a short wait for our entrees, probably due to the amount of diners in the restaurant. Both entrees were served hot, attractively presented, and delicious. We would certainly dine at the Brigantine in the future."

  • "Stayed at the Welk Resort in Escondido over Christmas week; looked for a place to eat Christmas Eve. Went to Brigantine and enjoyed it so much, we went back 2 days later! Innocente was an excellent server; we asked for him the second time there. Nice nautical atmosphere, warm and inviting. Varied menu. Would definitely recommend."

  • "We absolutely loved our choice for Christmas Eve dinner....very Special. Our waitress was a gem (Brittany). The food was beyond compare to other restaurants. This will be a tradition for us now. And more than likely for other times througout the year. We have always liked The Brigantine and have eaten there many times over the past 25 years. Thank You"

  • "Food and service was good. The main reason we went there was to celebrate a birthday. I noted it when I made the reservation on open table. When we were walking to our table the hostess asked if we were celebrating something special. I told her we were celebrating a birthday and she said oh okay. Well we had our meal and no birthday acknowledgement at all. After we paid our bill I said to the waitress, I thought you do a little something for birthdays. Her response was you should have mentioned something to me. My advice is to mention to everyone that works there so they won't say they didn't know. Also there was a foreign object in my food , the manager came out to apologize and didn't charge us for the salads."

  • "I arranged a farewell luncheon for an employee of a nearby hospital, and had all the food pre-ordered. They were on top of it and it was waiting for us when we arrived, even the to-go. We sat right by the fire as I asked; the server could not have been nicer or more accommodating. The down-side: the lunch menu is priced much higher than any other restaurant in the area. The crab cake sandwich I ordered was VERY small, as were the 2 sides. I had expected the portions to be larger & more flavorful than they were. The crab cake did not even cover half of the bread. We will probably return for dinner, but not fo lunch. I really wanted this to be a go-to place for us, as I coordinate such events on a regular basis, so I am doubly disappointed."

  • "From the moment we were greeted at the door we felt welcome. Our server Serena was amazing- she made great recommendations and was incredibly attentive. The food was great - the swordfish was perfect and my companion had the seafood combo and said it was really good. The mud pie was a perfect sharing dessert I highly recommend dining here and hope you are lucky enough to have Serena as your server :)"

  • "To be fair, the Brig had a special party. The food was the usual exceptional fare, but the service was unfortunately quite slow."

  • "The food was awesome a little suprised they didn't have a surf n turf option on the menu but they did have one and it wasn't much h more then the cost from regular menu. Yumm yumm A+ Star"

  • "The only good thing was it was quiet enough to hear each other talk. They forgot one of our dinners, another didn't come with the vegetable ordered, the steaks were tough, they didn't sing happy birthday as we asked. A real bummer."

  • "Excellent and widely varied menu choices for fish and seafood lovers that are prepared to meet the customers' special needs by a very helpful and attentive wait staff."

  • "The Brigantine in Escondido was wonderful as it always has been. There is a 3 course menu for early diners that includes soup or salad, a choice of several entrees, and dessert. The macadamia crusted ono was delicious, and the chocolate desset was very rich and melted in the mouth. The Service is always wonderful and the atmosphere lends itself to a nice meal out. Prices are reasonable especially for the three courses."

  • "My Mom and I shared a wonderful lunch recently - cioppino and the fried shrimp entree. We also had the appetizers of blackened ahi and fried claims - with 3 or 4 dipping sauces - all were crazy delicious. Our meals were made even better with the amazing service from Hector - he's the best server...ever. Be sure to ask for him when you go. Another delightful lunch at the Brig....."

  • "Brigantine continues to be my favorite place to eat. We don't go out much, but when we do, this is my first choice for both beef and seafood. It is nestled into a Vons parking lot and may not be easily found by folks who have not been there before. Once inside, you forget where it is located as the ambience is outstanding."

  • "I took my older sister out for her 71st birthday dinner. She doesn't get to go out much , and lives on a fixed income, She loved the menu , and she really liked it when I told her to have whatever she liked. Crab and lobster cob salad , 16 oz. prime rib, a tall screw-driver , baked potato with works , tall screwdriver. She was in heaven , I scored a ton of little brother points!"

  • "The dinner was great as was the service but the watered down drinks were a MAJOR disappointment. I can`t say that I would return or recommend to anyone this establishment after such an obvious glitch. The soda was OK but you owe me a bourbon which was so obviously missing. and this was not the first time. How sad!"

  • "We've been coming to this Brig for years. About 6 months ago, we had two pretty horrible lunches in a row. I let management know but have stayed away because it was that bad. Recently had company in from out of town - wanted something close - so crossed our fingers. We went for an early Friday lunch - and had a wonderful meal. I mentioned to the server that the cioppino was exceptional - much better than before. He mentioned that a new chef was on board. Yeah! We will be returning...."
