A San Diego tradition since 1969, the Brigantine has received many accolades in our 40+ year history. "BEST SEAFOOD", "BEST CASUAL SEAFOOD", "BEST HAPPY HOUR", and even "BEST SWORDFISH IN THE WORLD", according to USA Today.

Well-known for our signature Clam Chowder, Grilled Swordfish, and Crème Brûlée, the Brigantine is a favorite among locals for consistently fresh seafood, succulent steaks and grilled meats.

Perched between the spectacular Pacific Ocean and the hills of Rancho Santa Fe, the Del Mar Brigantine sits high above the action of the Del Mar racetrack.

A lushly landscaped garden offers an unparalleled setting for weddings and outdoor-themed events. Indoors, a formal dining room looks out to the garden through floor-to-ceiling french doors. For more casual dining, the glass-enclosed deck is a year-round favorite.

The Del Mar Brigantine serves dinner 7 nights a week, lunch Monday-Saturday, and brunch each Sunday.

  • "Mediocre food and service. There is a difference between loudly energetic and loudly irritating. While I really like to former level of noise, this fits far more into the latter. Service is not prompt, but when it does come it feels rushed and impersonal. Food is fine , I suppose, but sauces tend to be heavy rather than fine, and are certainly not delicate as would be expected with this reputation. Too many Italian restaurants around to waste time and $$$$ on this one."

  • "As two couples we went to the Brigantine for dinner. The parking is a bit tough, but definitely valet. We had a crab and lobster salad which was marginal and crab cakes (actually cake) which looked like a small dinner roll. Our friends had the special fish dish and thought that was great. The staff was very nice. It is definitely noisy but it was a Saturday night. We, perhaps, just hit on a bad night as this restaurant had been recommended two us by several people."

  • "Requested a table with a view on the deck, but received a booth near the hostess stand and bar, which made for a noisy dinner with foot traffic and distractions. Server was inaccurate with the menu and specials all the way around. Her attention to detail and our needs at the table were poor. Our family dinner expectations were not even close to being met during our visit to this restaurant."

  • "Eggs Benedict was very good. Plenty of champagne flowing. Had a waiter in training who reached across me each time he was serving so I had to move back and interrupt my conversation. There was plenty of room for him to serve from the other side. It was noisy and very casual. An ok place to go for a non occasion. I'll go back again and eat at the Bar."

  • "Super fresh fish, great service, and beautiful view. The fish tacos were perfectly fried (light and crispy not oily). The bouillabaisse was very flavorful but the lobster and shrimp were a bit overcooked. Definitely valet. Will be coming back!"

  • "Our server was amazing. We had a party of 6 and we prompting seated and had water and bread within minutes. My hubby and I both had the swordfish and it was delicious. Our friend had the shrimp pasta and love it. The kids ( who got their meals first - love that touch BTW) all even their meals. One had shrimp , one grilled chicken and one salmon . All looked amazing for kid entrees and the portions were just right Will be back"

  • "We have had good experiences in the past, so perhaps this was just one of those days. The standard Brig fair, fish tacos and such, are always excellent and were this time too. We also tried the bouillabaisse this time, and can't recommend it. Very small portions of fish, over-cooked shrimp (and shrimpy), and a broth that was salt water."

Very enjoyable experience and loved the grilled salmon tacos and fish. The desserts were absolutely delicious especially the Mudd Pie. Would highly recommend this to our family and friends and look forward to coming here again."

  • "Celebrated birthday at Brigantine today. Had the best service from LISA; very attentive; made sure we had everything we needed and checked on us frequently. Appetizer came out in plenty of time before food so we could enjoy. Food was fantastic; grilled Mahi Mahi and Soft shell crab were both fresh and tasted great. Big piece of Mud Pie as birthday dessert. This is one of our favorite spots to dine."

  • "The service was excellent and very accommodating. Everyone was efficient, ready with the water and bread, servers came with a smile and busboys were quick and unobtrusive. They were able to move us from a table to a booth after one came open which was very helpful as we had a young child with us. The grilled shrimp were slightly overdone but spiced well, Steamed vegetables came out with just the right amount of crisp left in em (overcooked vegetables are terrible, so kudos to Brigantine here) and the lemon pasta had been either undercooked or more likely over-worked/kneaded as it was a little hard/rubbery. The flavor was right on but the texture lacked. Overall it was still a nice meal in a solid environment and we would go back."

  • "A great day for six of us to celebrate Grandpa's 70th birthday. We had a quite booth in the back of the room which worked out for us so we could all talk together. Our server, Todd, was attentive, friendly, and helpful with our food selection. Our food choices varied from tacos, fresh fish, chicken, fish and chips, to the good old standby hamburger. All of our food was outstanding. Can't wait for Grandma to turn 70. Or maybe we can just celebrate a beautiful day and sit in the bar area closer to the view."

  • "We'd driven by numerous times and commented that we should check it out but never managed to get there. Well we finally went and were pleased. I went with my husband and 2 sons (ages 12 and 16) and everyone liked the view from the glazed-in porch. We all agreed that going back when there was some action at the race track is a must. The service was prompt and friendly - attentive without being intrusive. The seafood dishes and the steak were all flavorful and well prepared. It was great to have a menu that met everyone's wish lists and delivered tasty, satisfying food with great service."

  • "Lobster Benedict had plenty of lobster and looked fantastic but the flavor just wasn't there. The dish needed more sauce, more salt (and I'm not usually one to add salt) and more lemon, which the waiter was happy to bring. Still, when you order a "Benedict" you expect to get a wonderfully lemony Hollandaise, and this one had a skimpy saucing and the sauce itself was bland. I think that the chef who created this dish would have been very disappointed with the execution of it on this occasion."

  • "The Brigantine Del Mar is an excellent restuarant, as long as you are OK with valet parking. We dined there late afternoon on Saturday. It was busy, but my OpenTable reservation ensured we got right in. We sat on the patio, overlooking the Del Mar fairgrounds and racetrack. The service was excellent and the food was great. I had the special steakhouse burger and definitely recommend it. My wife had a slad that she said was great and my daughter had the crab cake, which she loved. All in all, a great meal, with great service, and a really nice view."

  • "Had shrimp and crab dip, swordfish and crab cake dinners. Excellent meal, we got seated at a table with no light above us so hard to see menu and food. A bush blocked our view of the track. The food was great however and that made the night. The decor is modern and comfortable not pretentious. We were dressed in suits but dress code was variable so jeans seemed ok too. We ate coming back for the swordfish, it's stellar."

  • "I have been to other Brig locations, but this one I was excited to try since it is close to my neighborhood. I was very happy that we were seated right away because usually at steakhouses we are made to wait an extra 15 minutes or so even with a reservation. Unfortunately that is where the happiness ended. The waitress was very slow and it seemed like it was her first night ever waiting on a table. My grandpa spilled his drink and you would think that there are no rags in the whole restaurant because it took 15 minutes for someone to find one. They did serve complimentary dessert for my grandma's birthday which was a nice gesture. Since we have many favorite restaurants around town we probably won't ever be back to this one."

The place can get a little noisy, but this is to be expected in a very popular place. We like the way they have remodeled the place...very open but with a subdued nautical flavor. Nice views of the Del Mar race track and grounds during the day. Convenient valet parking."

  • "This was my first time visiting this location because I live in Pasadena and was visiting La Jolla. I liked being able to make reservations through Open Table. The restaurant was nice but very noisy. I ordered the crab cakes and my husband ordered the New York steak. The steak was good, the crab cakes were just ok. They had too much bread and not enough crab. I had pilaf and veggies with the crab cakes. They were good but I only received 1 piece of carrot and 5 green beans, thank God for the bread that came with the meal, otherwise I would have still been hungry. My Bloody Mary was very good. Our server was very nice."

Had we known, we would have gone to another restaurant that was serving a dinner menu for the holiday.   • "Our brunch reservations were for the dining room but there was a large loud crowd so we asked for other options. There is a great patio at the end of the bar and seating overlooking the racetrack. With the weather inthe 70s this was a perfect venue, quiet and warm! The food was great as always."
