A word from Brigantine Del Mar
A San Diego tradition since 1969, the Brigantine has received many accolades in our 40+ year history. "BEST SEAFOOD", "BEST CASUAL SEAFOOD", "BEST HAPPY HOUR", and even "BEST SWORDFISH IN THE WORLD", according to USA Today.

Well-known for our signature Clam Chowder, Grilled Swordfish, and Crème Brûlée, the Brigantine is a favorite among locals for consistently fresh seafood, succulent steaks and grilled meats.

Perched between the spectacular Pacific Ocean and the hills of Rancho Santa Fe, the Del Mar Brigantine sits high above the action of the Del Mar racetrack.

A lushly landscaped garden offers an unparalleled setting for weddings and outdoor-themed events. Indoors, a formal dining room looks out to the garden through floor-to-ceiling french doors. For more casual dining, the glass-enclosed deck is a year-round favorite.

The Del Mar Brigantine serves dinner 7 nights a week, lunch Monday-Saturday, and brunch each Sunday.

  • Excellent Birthday Dinner Celebration!

An ideal place to celebrated my birthday! We made reservations through Open Table and our table was waiting! We had a window seat for 4 overlooking the Del Mar Racetrack. The ladies both had the Macadamia Crusted Mahi Mahi -- Excellent. The gentlemen also had fish - one had the Fish Combo, a generous portion and the other had the Scallops - so tasty he didn't want to share! For our birthday dessert, they brought a delicious ice cream cake that we all devoured!

My fish was too cooked and plenty of bones in it. Our friends steaks didn't seem of great quality and my husband's fish & chips was ordinary. Quite pricy for the what we got. As for the ambiance, the waiter & the wine list, all was interesting. Not sure we would go back because of the food.

My wife and I went to the Brigantine with another couple who had heard it was a lovely restaurant. The ambience was nice but the food left much to be desired. We were sitting for 20 minutes or so just waiting for bread which we were told was baking, when it arrived it was cold and borderline stale. The crab cake had a lot of breading but nice flavor, the clam chowder had no clams (really, not one) and didn't seem to have any potato. When your specialty is Seafood, one expects it to be top notch which is why I didn't order a steak for my entree. I decided on the $25 seasonal scallop plate. The scallops were not seasoned and were cold. Disappointing. The quality of food just isn't worth the price tag. Try West in Carlsbad

Seated promptly with a reservation! Waiters were very attentive! Lobsters, the main reason for the visit, were horrible- cooked to oblivion, dry, rubbery. Rest of the 'lobster plate'- (veggies) was also dry. Will say, coconut shrimp and prime rib were good. Too bad- this restaurant is so close to home.

I love what the Brigantine Restaurants have done with the revamp of their locations. The decor flow and feel is much more enticing and comfortable. With that, the refresh on food items have been elevated too. I have also enjoyed the seafood at the Brigantine but they have streamlined the selections that look to be more seasonal offerings. Hopefully local producers will benefit.

My wife and I are hard to impress, but Brigantine has done it. Our experience was stellar across the board. When we arrived for our 5:45 reservation we were immediately seated and water was brought. A couple minutes later or waiter appeared and got us started with some drinks. I had a delicious orange wheat beer (can't remember the name but it had '24' in the name), and my wife had a divine drink as well (vodka, raspberry, and cream? We can't remember the name but it was good). He asked if we wanted appetizers, but we just ordered our entrees. My wife ordered the shrimp and grits, which was astoundingly good, and I ordered a fantastic grass-fed beef burger. We had a wonderful date at Brigantine and will return.

Went with hubby for a dinner out. We noticed every table had a basket of fresh bread & butter except we didn't. We had to ask for it. When my entre arrived, the sole piccata was 3 pieces of fish stacked on top of each other rather burnt and dry. There was no piccatta sauce. I asked the waitress if their sole piccatta came with sauce and she said" I can get you some". So did the waiter forget to bring it? Did the chef not put it on the fish before it left the kitchen? Who serves piccatta without the sauce? Just bad service. Brigantine has fallen waaaaay down on our list. We don't need to go back.

We met up with another couple on a Monday evening for a farewell dinner. It was a great location with partial views of the ocean and the track. Our server Madison had the right blend of attentiveness yet not overwhelming. Everyone enjoyed their dinners, though no one exclaimed this was the best ever. After a previous visit that was not so great (awful table outside in a corner and food that was not cooked through) I was glad we made a second visit which turned out to be a very nice evening.

We were seated on the deck to begin with but found there was so much noise that we requested a quieter table. The lunch crowd on the deck all seemed to be talking very loudly. We were then seated in the formal dining room which was nice and quiet. We had an excellent server although the service was a bit slow. She had to go back and forth to serve us inside as well as others on the deck.

We've had many special family celebrations here. This last one was just for my husband and myself for our 18th anniversary. We chose to sit outside and were seated near the fire pit. There was a fun, but a little rowdy, group of kids running off some extra energy on the grass nearby for the first few minutes, but we didn't mind. After they left, it was very quiet and peaceful. Our food was really good, the wine and beer were great, and our service was outstanding (my husband used to work as a fine dining server). The only disappointment was the chocolate pan cake. It was pretty much flavorless. Overall, a very nice evening.

We hadn't been to the Brigantine in years, and after our most recent visit, we regret having waited so long to return. The food is really good and the setting is spectacular (if you sit in the back room) - view of the racetrack and the ocean. Prices are very reasonable for the area. We enjoyed the bouillabaisse and the Ahi. The crab cake appetizer is all crab, not bread. Smores desert is fantastic.

San Diego has a lot of great places to get a drink, dinner and enjoy a view. Del Mar has more than it's fair share. This place serves some beautiful food and provides a great view of Del Mar's fairgrounds. It's the perfect place for a dinner with that special someone, but be aware that it adds up fast. Dinner and drinks for the two of us came to $150 pretty easily.

Unfortunately the fine dining experience in the MAIN DINING ROOM is hampered by the loud noise coming from the customers enjoying the SPORTS BAR atmosphere on the other side of the welcoming check in counter. A room divider would be very much appreciated so we in the Dining Room area do not have to listen to the Sports Maniacs screaming when there is a touchdown, etc. Also the drinking atmosphere in Sports Bar is not helpful to the fine dining experience in the main dining area. We do not want to return in evening……...

The Brig looked inviting and had a beautiful view. So far so good- happy with our choice. There was a fly or two but we shooed them away. They came back. They left again but lingered nearby. The bread came- we were swatting the flies away.We asked someone to shut the side door but were told it wouldn't help. That's when we were informed "every year for two weeks after horseracing season we have flies and there's nothing we can do about it." We began with the shrimp cocktail. Ok this is nuts- do we really want to spend $150 on dinner with flies. We canceled our order-Nicole explained also " for 2 weeks..." the mgr came out-(very nice sorry forgot his name) again- "for 2 wks..." How about CLOSING for two weeks???? Flies are for picnics...

We had a beautiful table outside, but that was the best part about the meal. The food is average, you are paying for the location. I had the crab stuffed shrimp, there were four very small shrimp that mostly tasted of the bacon they were wrapped in. The special of the day, salmon, was mediocre. This is a place we go to because of the location and not the food.

Really enjoyed dinner at The Brig! The scallops were terrific, and the banana cheesecake was really lovely. My server (Andrew, I think) was wonderful as well. And I loved the view of the Track. The only issue I had was being just a bit too close to the bar. There was a loud group there that evening, and the "F-bomb" was being dropped regularly and loudly. I'd definitely eat at The Brig again, but I'd ask for a table far from the bar!

Brigantine is a spot we drive by often but rarely think of for a meal. It took receiving a gift card to give it another look. We had a nice appetizer, ahi poke wonton tacos, that were delicious but came as 3 making it tricky to share. The margarita was tasty but a bit weak for my $10. Our entrees were quite tasty. Shrimp and grits were much more exciting than their ordinary name. Melt in your mouth delicious is what they were!

I've been to all the other Brigantine locations and this one is by far the worst of the bunch. Understaffed and clearlly unprepoared for Saturday crowds. Rewervations are usually seated within 15 minutes or so even at a busy restaurant but not here - 30 minutes at least. Valet parking is really the only choice unless you get lucky and find something on the street but you can't even pull into the valet line and get off the road. The food just wasnt as good as the other locations either. I don't know if it was a result of the crowd or if being there at 9pm was the problem. Too many other good Brigantine locations to give this one any more business.
