Diner Reviews
  • "This is not my typical restaurant choice but I meet every few months with a group of friends and the birthday friend wanted to try something along the river. I enjoyed our visit very much. We usually eat very healthy options but we were all in the mood for comfort food. The standout for me was the (healthy) sunflower salad. I also enjoyed the popcorn with honey, jalapenos and ham. Due to the construction across the river, the view wasn't as pretty as it would have been but we enjoyed the boats passing by and on a Tuesday night didn't find the noise from the boats intrusive. We sat at the eastern end of their outside seating and the noise level was minimal. I was very pleasantly surprised and will bring out of town guests there."

  • "Found this casual spot on the water with great food, service and views. The staff was friendly and also bent over backwards as they knew we were pressed for time.. You cannot go wrong with Bridge House Tavern."

  • "The service was very good and the one appetizers we had was out of this world. However, there were party boats, or tour boats going by every few minutes that were so loud you has to stop conversation and basically became the main attraction. We ordered a Cosmo and a dirty martini and neither if these very basic of drinks was good and the menu was very limited and pricey. We ended up eating our appetizer, which was excellent, and left to find better meal options and ambiance."

  • "The food was good, nothing to ride home about. But the outdoor seating along the river was fantastic! A cozy spot I'll definitely be coming back to. The only downside was that it was a windy night so our menus flew away a few times, but no big deal!"

  • "Concierge at the Radisson Blu Aqua told us there was nothing on the Riverwalk. Well, was he wrong! We did some internet surfing, thank you Open Table, found the Bridge House Tavern, made OT res. We were a bit early and the restaurant was pretty busy, but the hostess still sat us at a lovely riverfront table. Kevin, our server, was totally informative, yet let us have our time and pace. He was attentive when we needed him and passive when we didn't. And, he had a great personality and sense of humor. The mimosas and bloodies were $5 each and top shelf. I had the benedict and my wife had the BLT with thick sliced Nueces (?) bacon. Both were out of this world. If in Chicago don't miss it and don't necessarily take the concierge's word for it."

  • "We were originally seated inside because it had just rained. I love the nautical theme but it's way too loud inside - my girlfriend and I had to yell at each other to be heard. I'd never eat there if I had to sit inside. Outside was nice and our waiter was excellent. Food was good. Views were great."

  • "Bridge House Tavern is a great spot for sitting along the river and enjoying some great drinks! The food isn't that great, but it's definitely a fun atmosphere and the drink menu is pretty darn delicious."

  • "Very accomodating, my group was late, stuck in traffic, the staff at Bridge House Tavern was very accomodating and gave us a very nice table on the patio. Great service and food as usual. Definitely recommended during summer time for a nice view over the river."

  • "Enjoyed the food, service was gracious and well paced, fun to watch the boats go by. Arrived early in the evening, roughly 5 pm, glad we had reservations so we could be seated outside. A treat in the summertime! Slightly difficult to find the restaurant, need to go down the stairs to the riverwalk level from north side of Clark St. bridge; riverwalk itself doesn't connect all the way through. Overall a nice pre-show experience for us."

  • "Food was delish, service was great and televisions were all tuned to the game. It was fun to share excitement and great lunch. Love the tavern - will be back soon."

  • "This was my second visit to Bridge House Tavern. We moved to Chicago and have only been here a couple weeks. The restaurants and food in Chicago are second to none which means lots of competition on the good restaurant front. Bridge House is a great place, good food, wonderful setting, with portions that are pretty large and easily sharable. Be sure to make a reservation as they are normally busy/booked."

  • "We came here after a graduation hungry after sitting and with no where to go. I found this through opentable and booked it last minute! The hosts were nice even though the rest of my family was a bit late they were accommodating and had the table ready for us. We ended up getting a small bite and a pitcher of blueberry Moscow mule while we waited. Our server was patient with us. Finally our party arrived and we ordered some plates to eat, some were shared which I know is annoying but we had a later reservation and wanted to watch the game as well. Unfortunately a few of us didn't love the food but just powered through since we know we had caused some lag. Overall, ambiance amazing! Service, great! Food/drinks, ok definitely not the best."

  • "My sister and I flew in and surprised my parents here for their 30th anniversary. It could not have been more perfect! The staff was so great about helping us with the surprise, the food was excellent, and the ambiance is just out of this world! I would definitely recommend and can't wait to go back!"

  • "Great patio to sit near the river. My meal was disgusting. So not order the Steak Frites... It is a sloppy mess of overcooked meet in a pasty sauce. I would have sent it back immediately, except our server disappeared for about half an hour. When I pointed out my disappointment with the meal when he finally came by, he said "yeah a lot of people dont like the sauce"... no atempts to bring us another meal or fix the mistake. I ordered a cheese plate instead of the steak and was even disappointed in that dish. Skip the food, get a drink. I would only recommend this place for drinks."

  • "This was our second visit to Bridge House after a good first visit. Their wine list is sparse for starters. Our pork belly appetizer was luke warm & had to be redone & still wasn't hot the second time. The roasted chicken was so dry it was hard to eat. We spoke to the chef & was given a second meal. He was very nice as was our waitress. The restrooms smelled like urine and it was not a busy restaurant for a Saturday night. They seem to be still figuring out if they want to be a bar or restaurant. They have a great location with amazing views so I hope they work out their kinks. My suggestion is just to go for drinks and appetizers."

  • "I went here for Mother's day. Had the three pork eggs and biscuits. I love pork and wished the dish was larger!!!! That's how good it was. The service was a bit slow but probably due to the holiday."

  • "Beautiful view, great food! Went there for brunch and was definitely worth it. Great mimosas! The bacon pancake is HUGE and delicious"

  • "We booked through Open Table, site unseen and it was a great choice. The owner greeted us at the host station and was very friendly and very honest about how long it might take for us to wait and get an outdoor table (it was a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon/evening). We never did get outside, but were able to get a table just at the edge of the outdoor space and it was great. Food is good - you will get a lot for your money and won't go away hungry. Be aware that most of the sandwiches are heavy meals - not for the light eater or one checking calories! Drink specials were great and they clearly did not skimp on the alcohol in mixed drinks."

  • "This restaurant needs more food options or ones that have either a gluten free(besides oysters which were fabulous) or a vegetarian side to it. The atmosphere is great, service is wonderful and the atmosphere is lovely...but since we all need to eat, it would be nice."

  • "The space is amazing but the service was appalling. The guy tried but I'm sorry your good intentions don't excuse the fact that you're unorganized and unattentive. The food is mediocre but that was because they were only serving brunch and I wanted real food. I might have to go back. The space is amazing so I would go back during week just to sit outside and have a cocktail. But on a weekend afternoon not so happy with the menu."

  • "Ate outside along the river and had a gorgeous view. Ordered the salad with goat cheese and truffle oil and added chicken to it and it was delicious. Price though, $16 with the $3 chicken added in, but it was good. "

  • "With a beautiful view as well a well designed restaurant, I wish the food had been better. Expensive in the long run and we should have chosen our first place for the same cost. "

  • "Almost everything on the menu has bacon in it and for extra $2 you can add bacon to any dish! The popcorn with bacon and honey was addictive. The scallop appetizer was really delicious. I went with a few girl friends and we shared a variety of appetizers, the sunflower salad and the burger. Really enjoyed the food. Atmosphere is warm. Will definitely come back on a warmer day and sit outside on the patio that overlooks the river. "

  • "Went before it was nice enough to sit outside. Sort of has a maritime feel to it. Different than the website portrays the place. It was really causal and it seemed more upscale on the website. Not that I have an issue with that, just something to note. Probably go back in the summer sit outside. Went for a fish fry it was good enough that I would get it again. It is best described as an easy place to be to have dinner and a couple of drinks. Also an important note, not a late night place. Once it starts to wind down they close up. There were some people that showed up at 10:30 looking for food, but they already shut down the kitchen and that was on a Friday night."

  • "I chose Bridge House Tavern for a birthday lunch with a friend and selected it because it looked like an interesting location on the Chicago River. It is a hidden gem - take the elevator down from street level. I was hoping for outdoor dining but it was a bit cool. They have comfy sofa seating on the outdoor patio. The interior has tables along a large window overlooking the River. High top and bar seating is available, too. I had a wonderful grilled romaine salad with shrimp. My friend had the rib sandwich, which she said was excellent. Service was attentive, not intrusive, and the owner, who greeted us at the door, stopped by to see how everything was. Highly recommend!"

  • "Always nice to go to a new place and have a great experience. Great lunch options, it was hard to choose from a number of great looking foods. Brussel sprout and popcorn appetizers were a fantastic."

  • "The restaurant is located right on the river. We had a great view from our table by the window. The decor was very nice and the staff was extremely friendly and polite. Unfortunately, the food was not up to par. In the end, good food is what you go to a restaurant for. So no matter how nice this place looks or how friendly the staff is, I would not go back."
