Diner Reviews
  • "I chose Bridge House Tavern for a birthday lunch with a friend and selected it because it looked like an interesting location on the Chicago River. It is a hidden gem - take the elevator down from street level. I was hoping for outdoor dining but it was a bit cool. They have comfy sofa seating on the outdoor patio. The interior has tables along a large window overlooking the River. High top and bar seating is available, too. I had a wonderful grilled romaine salad with shrimp. My friend had the rib sandwich, which she said was excellent. Service was attentive, not intrusive, and the owner, who greeted us at the door, stopped by to see how everything was. Highly recommend!"

  • "Always nice to go to a new place and have a great experience. Great lunch options, it was hard to choose from a number of great looking foods. Brussel sprout and popcorn appetizers were a fantastic."

  • "The restaurant is located right on the river. We had a great view from our table by the window. The decor was very nice and the staff was extremely friendly and polite. Unfortunately, the food was not up to par. In the end, good food is what you go to a restaurant for. So no matter how nice this place looks or how friendly the staff is, I would not go back."

  • "Amazingly creative menu. Difficult to decide on which appetizer, much less main course. Preparation and presentation is first rate. The owner and general manager are friendly, interacting with diners, always roaming the dining room watching every detail. Drinks are well crafted, specials are reasonably priced and of the type you`d actually want to drink. (No, I don`t want another variation of a pomegranate martini). Limited seating during the winter months makes the surroundings intimate and quiet. If you want noise walk across the street to House of Blues."

  • "Really nice ambience, great cocktails and wine list, love the food. Unpretentious, classy and a perfect meeting spot with friends prior to a night at the theatre. This is quickly becoming a go-to spot for us."

  • "Bridge House Tavern is turning about to be one of my favorite places to meet friends, family, clients, etc... You can't go wrong here. The food is interesting and delicious, the wine list offers a good variety all at reasonable prices, and the service is always prompt and efficient."

  • "It was a Chicago Winter Saturday which means the sky was overcast and the snow was coming down but this little spot brightens you right up! The Champagne Brunch was one of the better ones we have found in the city with refillable mimosas and bloody marys and a good amount of food for each entree. I am sure it is packed on nice days and in the summer but we will definitely nbe going back."

  • "From the greeting of owner Ryan, to the food that was layered in flavor and texture to our outstanding service by our waitress Carly who was energetic and friendly; we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience and will return! We enjoyed the Valentine 4-course menu for $75 which had a wine pairing each course. From the cranberry sunflower goat arugula to the goat stuffed pepper with honey to the scallops and gelato and cheesecuake....each dish was spot on. Compliments to the chef! Can't wait til summer to enjoy the outside river location!"

  • "This pub/restaurant is popping during the summer when their riverside cafe is operating. In the winter the crowd is smaller and the atmosphere more like a sports bar. The food presentation, however, was far above that of the usual sports bar. My steak sandwich was a club sandwich with a small number of slim slices of steak layered between good bread lined with radishes, arugula, and tasty slices of tomato. My friend's fish and chips was also attractively presented, though she said the fish itself was not memorable. Our waiter was attentive and responsive."

  • "River side place is a little bleak in the winter for lunch. But food was tasty and waiter was attentive. So I'd try again when it's alfresco weather."

  • "Bridge House Tavern was a perfect fit for our large party of 6 after a cold night out in Chicago. We used the menu almost like a tapas menu and had pretty much every appetizer on it. The truffle honey butter and bread had us almost on our knees begging for more (and secretly using our fingers to get the last bit out of the ramekin until our lovely waiter took pity on us and brought us more! ) A fish and chip entree swam to our table and was golden and crunchy on the outside, piping hot and flaky on the inside--perfection. Another entree, steak frites, was also a winner. We are all truly excited to find this gem along the river with it's beautiful stone walls and crackling fireplace. Can't wait to return. ..."

  • "Went with my husband for a rare weeknight evening in the city after work. Love the ambiance and tho we did not eat on the outdoor patio, am sure that is amazing in warm weather. We had the appetizer popcorn which, while flavorful, seemed to be of low quality corn. Too many hard kernels. My husband enjoyed his fish/chips tho nothing special about them. My hamburger was very good. All in all, a pleasant meal in a nice atmosphere."

  • "Dined here with my boyfriend before seeing Wicked. I must say, this was the perfect date night place. Had early reservations so the place was very quiet. We were seated by the windows to overlook the river....without even being asked. Such a wonderful view. Food was beyond amazing! Upscale twist on tavern food. Atmosphere was relaxed and inviting. Since moving to Chicago I can honestly say this has become a top favorite of mine! Service was above and beyond!"

  • "BHT has become my go-to spot to take out of town guests that are staying downtown. It has a great river view, the food is always quite good, there's a great variety on the cocktail/wine/beer list, prices are reasonable, and its usually not terribly crowded."

  • "Really enjoyed outdoor seating and scene. Food was very good but they were unfortunately out of two items on menu. I've been here twice and and it's only happened once. Definitely recommend and will be going back."

  • "I went with a few of my girl friends and the view was amazing. The food and service was spot on. I would go back in a heart beat, it would be a nice place for a date night."

  • "The carnivores and the vegetarians went home satisfied after sharing many small plates of delicious food. Service was excellent. Drink choices were great. The menu looks small, but it was varied and we enjoyed everything we chose."

  • "We went for lunch during October--the weather was great! Wonderful scenic view. We had a 4-yr old with us who was kept entertained by all the boats & kayaks on the river...great spot to eat! Waiter was very attentive!"

  • "Some places just get by on a great location and this seems to be one of them. Its hard to find a "bad" burger these days but the burger here was bad indeed - grey meat and very greasy and the bun was super soggy. Ordered no cheese but came loaded with it. Returned burger for correction but by the time it came back, the rest of the party was done eating and my fries were cold. I like the hard rock music they play and the river view but I think food is not worth having here - maybe just drinks if I ever return. There are several alternatives just up the river and down the street."

  • "Great location along the river - spectacular views, good ambiance. Nice outdoor deck. Speciality popcorn is worth a try. Our meals themselves were OK - the food was a bit on the greasy side, and the shrimp on my salad smelled like fish - the food in general is overpriced for this quality. Nevertheless, I would recommend - service was very good and the location fantastic."

  • "If you want drinks on the river, this is a good spot. However, I would not recommed the food. My husband and I shared the Popcorn, Oysters, Avocado Chicken Wraps, Ceviche, and Salmon on Toast. The oysters are pretty standard, but everything else was underwelming. Popcorn lacked spice, Wraps were fried (which I did not realize), Ceviche came on greasy wontons and covered in mayo, and salmon jar was just okay. If I go back I would maybe try an entree. The pictures online look more promising."

  • "I can't believe it took me so long to go to this place. I was looking for a cool Chicago restaurant by the river to take my parents who were visiting from Chile. I was affraid we weren't going to get a table with a view but the waiter accomodate us in the outdoor area and was just perfect ambiance. Food was delicious, I ordered the Short Rib-outstanding. My husband had the linguini, so tasty and soft. My mom ordered the Pork Chops and the waitress told us it was going to take about 30 minutes but it took less than that, no matter what it was worth it the wait, the mashed potatos and chorizo that came with it were out of this world too. My dad had Fish and Chips, fish was soft and so milky it melted in your mouth. Perfect spot!"
