The portion sizes were very small, the prices were relatively high but the food was tasty. The service was OK but I would never go back with all the better options we have in Southern Marin. I apologized to my date for the disappointing dinner and we went somewhere else after for dessert and coffee.

I took my wife of 30 years here for Valentine's Day. I spent about $150 bucks, not including tip, which included 2 glasses of wine each, and one dessert. The food was good, but nothing special. My wife had oysters on half shell as an appetizer - they were kinda small, and not as good as the ones at our local neighborhood bar, especially for the price. There is no view of anything (bay, ocean, etc). Since it is not particularly close to me, I probably will not go back. But were it in my neighborhood, I might go a couple of times a year for a semi special occasion.

Excellent, attentive, and accommodating service. However, the food was inconsistent at best. The salads were good, but simple. The pizza was cool upon arrival and great when heated. The Gnocchi was outstanding. The fish and vegetables were items you could get anywhere. Expensive for the quality of the food, but the service made-up for it.

This is a better/nicer place to go if you're going out for someone's birthday or a celebration. Would I say this is a gourmet restaurant? Absolutely not. I had the steak and it was pretty good, if not a little overcooked. The desserts were amazing. I would definitely go back, but I know what to expect now.

The BF and I came here before a book launch party at Book Passages next door. The food was complex and yummy and the service was responsive to our time deadline. The only complaint I have is our dinner conversation was curtailed because we were enjoying the flavors of the food too much to talk :)

We loved the food and service here, and have come back several times a year. But the noise levels are way beyond "Energetic", especially if you're within 50 feet of the very active bar scene. Even on a Tuesday night, we had a hard time hearing each other talk. There have been several times when we've considered coming to B&B but decided against it because of the noise level. We would not come here with a group because of that, because you'd only be able to hear the people sitting adjacent to you.

We had to yell at each other to be heard. Big flat screen TV in the dining room, tacky. Our waiter put the table and says, "I'll be right back to open it.." and then never comes back. We had to flag him down to get him to open our wine. We ordered tuna tartare, beet salad, and Swiss chard ravioli for appetizers. The tuna was fresh, the sauce on the ravioli was very good, lemony but creamy and not too heavy. For mains we ordered petrale sole, the petit filet special, and eggplant pizza. All were fine, but the eggplant was very tart, over- vinegared. The flourless chocolate cake was cold and tasted like it was purchased bulk from Costco, and paired with Hershey's chocolate sauce, cold. We paid $260 for dinner for four, before tip.

Most dishes were very good but a few needed work. The gnocchi starter which friends raved about was tasty but swimming in fat. This would have been easily corrected by the kitchen staff which indicated more attention to detail was needed. The same could be said of the egg salad starter which featured truffle oil. The theory here seemed to be if a little was good, a lot would be better. Subtlety with truffle oil is the key to this ingredient. The menu is great and many dishes were inventive and very good. But a bit more attention to detail needs to be exerted.

Their caesar salad and vegeterian french onion soup are delicious! We played it safe, because we've never been there before. I ordered the rotissirie chicken as my main course and my fiance ordered the braised short rib-not sure he was fond of the parsnip puree, but it was a bit tasty. All in all, it was a great experience. We were very pleased. It was a bit loud and i think that has to do with the structure of the restaurant, otherwise it was nice and the lights were nice and dim and not blinding you.

Loved this place. We live in San Diego, but went with some local family members to this neighborhood favorite. Great food, great service! The portions are not huge, so order an extra side or salad and you should be good. Some may not like having to do that considering the prices are already on the higher side for a restaurant of this category. However, the food quality is worth it.

Brick & Bottle was a huge disappointment. We were looking for a fun neighborhood experience. The description and images on line were completely misleading. The restaurant was so noisy that you could barely hear. The food was sub-par and the service was OK but not great. The food was also completely over-priced vs. the quality. I would not recommend this restaurant.

This turned out to be the perfect choice for meeting up with old friends. The food was great, everyone had something different and all plates were cleaned. Good suggestion from the waitress on a nice bottle of wine and the fact that wines were half off the night we were there was a pleasant surprise. Vibrant scene but not too noisy. We were able to have good conversations without difficulty hearing one another. This was not the first time I've eaten here but some time had passed since my last visit. The menu changed and I think it was better. I will definitely return.

I was overall much more impressed than I expected to be. Everything served was solid - tasty and generally w/an innovative twist. The smoke pork chop very smokey - almost a bit bacon like. The NY Strip was a generous cut w/their potato au gratin served along side. Cooked a tad under the medium rare requested, but not objectionable. I suggest instead serving some type of potato prep on the plate to help absorb the peppercorn sauce & drippings. Salmon was also lovely - a bit of orange jus to acidify the fish and earthy mushroom/spinach sides. The surprise standout - crunchy green beans were lightly tempura''d and fantastic. Plus free corkage on Fri nights! Tho the waiter didn't notice my 15 yr old bottle and broke the cork. ;(

Our dining "experience" was laughable. The place was overcrowded, one of the buffet stations was only accessible by stairs so those of us who can't climb stairs didn't get to see the food at that station, our table was changed 3 times during the seating process and the food was just OK. While I'm thankful that some restaurants will provide Thanksgiving dinner, this place is clearly not large enough for the number of reservations they accepted.

We went for a birthday celebration and had a great time. Our waitress was attentive, appropriate with her interactions and added to our evening. The food was delicious. We started with the chopped salad with pears and blue cheese (it was not chopped, but I liked the greens it was served with way better. Our dinner order included the short ribs, fillet oscar (special with fresh crab on top of the fillet mignon), orzo mac and cheese , and mushroom risotto. The meats were very tender and made to order. The broccolini was tender and bright and potatoes were delicious too. For dessert we opted for the flour less chocolate cake and it was divine and decadent and came with a scoop of either gelatto or ice cream.

We've had 1 lunch and 3 dinners at B&B in the past 18 months. First dinner was in the front of the restaurant by a very noisy large party and although the dinner seemed good, the noise overshadowed it. Our last 2 dinners, both in the back room, have been pleasantly quiet although the restaurant was busy, and delicious. Service was prompt and pleasant. Food was moderately priced. We will return again and again with the quality of our last 2 experiences.

This place has grown on us to become one of our very favorite places to go in Marin. Last night we had the most amazing multi-course dinner there - every course was wonderful, paired perfectly with wine, just lovely. The service is amazing, food is innovative and delicious. We get as excited now to go to Brick and Bottle as, say, Picco, Buckeye or El Paseo. We get just as much culinary surprise, and always have a great of a time, as at any of Marin's other premier restaurants. I think Brick & Bottle has rightfully made their way to the short list of the best of Marin. (P.S. We sometimes go as a couple but often with our young kids - no attitude - very kid friendly in addition to being great for dates/couples).

The food was prepared to perfection! Oysters, petrale, pork chop. All delicious. Crispy stringbeans...yum! Although the bar area is a buzz, the restaurant seating seems dull and isolated. I think the bar business is very important to this restaurant, as they offer interesting cocktails (have to go early next time and try one). I personally don't like the TV in the bar, it changes the atmosphere of a restaurant, but if you like to hang at the bar and drink, it's probably good for you. It's a pretty down home neighborhood kinda place with excellent food overall.

Asked for quiet table. Were placed in one when the hostess who said she had a nice, quiet table for us, seated a family of four next to us . Kids 8 &10 climbing on the seats, loud! Ordered carafe of Albariño for 2 but it tasted like sour lemons and waitress had to ask Mgr if we could try a different wine. Got MacCrostie Chard, an impossible miss, but it, too was sour. Wondered where this wine was actually coming from. Beet salad was overdressed and sour...not the usual balsamic. Grilled shrimp with ratatouille was ok, though salty and shrimp was dry. Had a bite of friend's skirt steak and it left a layer of grease on my palate that I had to scrape off! Overall, a disappointing evening.

The food at Brick and Bottle was fabulous - the chipotle oysters and the ahi tuna tartar are to die for! Unfortunately our server did not live up to the amazing food. Although the server was very sweet - she was quite difficult to understand and appeared to be under trained. We shared a variety of starters and pizza but had to ask for plates, serving spoons and small forks for the oysters. All the food came out at exactly the same time! (we ordered 3 starters, a salad and pizza...the food didn't even fit on the table). Not sure if we'll go back.
