Diner Reviews
  • "I had been looking forward to going to Brick and Bottle for awhile. The service was good but they overcooked my burger and the Malbec was not that good. On the positive the artichoke appetizer I had was delicious."

  • "We had a good dinner here last week. The salads were delicious and the saffron fettuccine was good with fresh tomatoes and spinach. We'll be back."

  • "Front door reception area is confusing. We stood about for several minutes waiting to be helped. We were never greeted and several staff walked past us uninterested. Almost walked out. We were finally greeted by the hostess. Service at the table was good."

  • "The food was good but the environment was noisy and the server was not very sensitive. She kept interrupting us in the middle of conversation and it seemed like she was trying to hurry us up. That constant interruption spoiled the experience for us, although the food was very good."

  • "A very nice if not a little load describes our experience. The menu read well. The kitchen doesn't work as well. I had the applewood smoked pork. I figured it would be very sweet with a decent smoke, accompanied with the jalapeño cole slaw would cut it nicely and add some complexity. Wrong. No jalapeños in the slaw. Asked for some chopped up. Brought chopped bell pepper, no heat, no flavor. Pork shoulder steak, super sweet,. hardly smoked. Just a waste of time. The muscle appetizer was surprisingly good! Third time time I've been here. It does not get better."

  • "A friend raved about B&B so we finally decided to try it. My sautéed shrimp appetizer was fantastic - best dish of anyone's that evening. But my wife's salad was a bit soggy. My grilled skirt steak was decent but not off the charts. My wife's margarita pizza looked great but was bland and disappointing. The service was okay but could have been much better. At least two items we asked for, we had to ask again. That is unacceptable in my book. Overall we rated it a 7.5."

  • "Tuna tartare appetizer is the best! Sol with mashed potatoes divine!"

  • "This is a good stop for a nice dinner for folks who cannot abide chain-type restaurants. Staff friendly but not annoying. Good food, prepared nicely. I'd return if in the area"

  • "We picked this restaurant to try something new in town and the menu looked good. We ordered the tuna tartar appetizer - the portion was generous, but it had no flavor. It needed some wasabi or salt or seasoning. For dinner, I asked the waiter about the pork chops - specifically if they would be dry and he said no. Unfortunately, they were dry and had no flavor. The butternut squash puree side tasted like baby food. My husband ordered the pork shoulder - it also was dry. This restaurant is in a great location - the owner should get a great chef and it would do well."

  • "Restaurant is loud which makes it good for kids but no printed kid menu - server has to verbally give you the kids menu. Never received bread even after asking. Hamburger was wonderful; steak and ahi tuna were okay."

  • "When a hostess tells you "I have a lovely table for you" it's their way of saying "You're getting a choice of bad tables, out of sight." I know, I am a host myself. Sitting in the back room of what looks like a Tahoe log cabin bar, complete with old wreaths decorated with Christmas lights, our table honestly sucked! Too small, against a pole, and with the runners and back waits bringing out multiple courses sooner than they should or expected, my dining guest immediately went into critique mode and wondered how this place even got any recommendations at all. The timing was off, even at our request, the drink I had was blah, and the starters ok, but the main courses lacked flavor. All in all it was an experience to remember, poorly."

  • "After movie early dinner. 6:30 Sides of mac and cheese and spinach were excellent, and more than enough for a meal. We used to go regularly when they offered an "early bird special" and bring your own wine, and they donated corkage to local charities. Bar scene VERY loud and we were unable to hear each other talk, so ask for a table in the back room, if you want conversation."

  • "Arrived little before 6:30 so was offered prix. fix menu as well as regular one. Three items were outstanding. Don't usually eat that much but this was good. This was a Saturday night so was pleasantly surprised to get this offering. I would go back. Also, good cocktails."

  • "Although this is a relatively new restaurant the interior looks tired and dowdy. We sat near 'banquet' room and was underwhelmed by ambiance. Ghastly interior. Mediocre food."

  • "My husband and I really enjoy being able to just pop over to Brick and Bottle for a great dinner!"

  • "We were a party of four that were seated close to the bar...had to shout to hear each other. We asked to move to another table further away from the noise. Service and food were very good, if you go (especially on a Friday night) request a table way in the back if you want to have a decent conversation."

  • "We went on Valentine's Day and it was absolutly wonderful. They were booked solid, but the service was perfect, friendly, efficient. Food was outstanding! We were not rushed in the least even though every table was occupied."

  • "I took my wife of 30 years here for Valentine's Day. I spent about $150 bucks, not including tip, which included 2 glasses of wine each, and one dessert. The food was good, but nothing special. My wife had oysters on half shell as an appetizer - they were kinda small, and not as good as the ones at our local neighborhood bar, especially for the price. There is no view of anything (bay, ocean, etc). Since it is not particularly close to me, I probably will not go back. But were it in my neighborhood, I might go a couple of times a year for a semi special occasion."

  • "The portion sizes were very small, the prices were relatively high but the food was tasty. The service was OK but I would never go back with all the better options we have in Southern Marin. I apologized to my date for the disappointing dinner and we went somewhere else after for dessert and coffee."

  • "Excellent, attentive, and accommodating service. However, the food was inconsistent at best. The salads were good, but simple. The pizza was cool upon arrival and great when heated. The Gnocchi was outstanding. The fish and vegetables were items you could get anywhere. Expensive for the quality of the food, but the service made-up for it."

  • "This is a better/nicer place to go if you're going out for someone's birthday or a celebration. Would I say this is a gourmet restaurant? Absolutely not. I had the steak and it was pretty good, if not a little overcooked. The desserts were amazing. I would definitely go back, but I know what to expect now."

  • "The BF and I came here before a book launch party at Book Passages next door. The food was complex and yummy and the service was responsive to our time deadline. The only complaint I have is our dinner conversation was curtailed because we were enjoying the flavors of the food too much to talk :)"

  • "I have been here many times but this last time it was OUTSTANDING! Service, food, presentation. The mushroom soup was out of this world we all wanted to lick our bowls! lol The Salmon ( which i had) was fabulous my others had the skirt steak which they all said was amazing. and oh yes, the bread on the table they did something different because it too was great."

  • "We loved the food and service here, and have come back several times a year. But the noise levels are way beyond "Energetic", especially if you're within 50 feet of the very active bar scene. Even on a Tuesday night, we had a hard time hearing each other talk. There have been several times when we've considered coming to B&B but decided against it because of the noise level. We would not come here with a group because of that, because you'd only be able to hear the people sitting adjacent to you."

  • "We had to yell at each other to be heard. Big flat screen TV in the dining room, tacky. Our waiter put the table and says, "I'll be right back to open it.." and then never comes back. We had to flag him down to get him to open our wine. We ordered tuna tartare, beet salad, and Swiss chard ravioli for appetizers. The tuna was fresh, the sauce on the ravioli was very good, lemony but creamy and not too heavy. For mains we ordered petrale sole, the petit filet special, and eggplant pizza. All were fine, but the eggplant was very tart, over- vinegared. The flourless chocolate cake was cold and tasted like it was purchased bulk from Costco, and paired with Hershey's chocolate sauce, cold. We paid $260 for dinner for four, before tip."

  • "I've dined here a number of times, but my short rib was really dry and served in about a tablespoon of thin juice."

  • "We had a delightful dining experience at Brick and Bottle. We were celebrating two birthdays and they had a great table for our group of 12. They treated the kids well and everyone had a delicious and fun meal."

  • "Most dishes were very good but a few needed work. The gnocchi starter which friends raved about was tasty but swimming in fat. This would have been easily corrected by the kitchen staff which indicated more attention to detail was needed. The same could be said of the egg salad starter which featured truffle oil. The theory here seemed to be if a little was good, a lot would be better. Subtlety with truffle oil is the key to this ingredient. The menu is great and many dishes were inventive and very good. But a bit more attention to detail needs to be exerted."

  • "Just loved the kale salad!!! The petrole with the crab puree potatoes was outstanding! Very good service! However do not order the rum cake- not good-save your calories for the entree."

  • "The food was very good however the service was disappointing our server was friendly but overbooked seemed like they put all the patrons in her area which is a sign that she is good We ordered wine which never showed up we finally told her not to bother as we were almost done with dinner waited as long as we could but it was getting colder by the minute"

  • "Loved this place. We live in San Diego, but went with some local family members to this neighborhood favorite. Great food, great service! The portions are not huge, so order an extra side or salad and you should be good. Some may not like having to do that considering the prices are already on the higher side for a restaurant of this category. However, the food quality is worth it."

  • "Their caesar salad and vegeterian french onion soup are delicious! We played it safe, because we've never been there before. I ordered the rotissirie chicken as my main course and my fiance ordered the braised short rib-not sure he was fond of the parsnip puree, but it was a bit tasty. All in all, it was a great experience. We were very pleased. It was a bit loud and i think that has to do with the structure of the restaurant, otherwise it was nice and the lights were nice and dim and not blinding you."

  • "We had dined there before and were not at all impressed. This time we were very pleasantly surprised by how much different our dining experience was. Will definitely continue to patronize as long as the food maintains this level."

  • "This turned out to be the perfect choice for meeting up with old friends. The food was great, everyone had something different and all plates were cleaned. Good suggestion from the waitress on a nice bottle of wine and the fact that wines were half off the night we were there was a pleasant surprise. Vibrant scene but not too noisy. We were able to have good conversations without difficulty hearing one another. This was not the first time I've eaten here but some time had passed since my last visit. The menu changed and I think it was better. I will definitely return."

  • "Brick & Bottle was a huge disappointment. We were looking for a fun neighborhood experience. The description and images on line were completely misleading. The restaurant was so noisy that you could barely hear. The food was sub-par and the service was OK but not great. The food was also completely over-priced vs. the quality. I would not recommend this restaurant."

  • "I was overall much more impressed than I expected to be. Everything served was solid - tasty and generally w/an innovative twist. The smoke pork chop very smokey - almost a bit bacon like. The NY Strip was a generous cut w/their potato au gratin served along side. Cooked a tad under the medium rare requested, but not objectionable. I suggest instead serving some type of potato prep on the plate to help absorb the peppercorn sauce & drippings. Salmon was also lovely - a bit of orange jus to acidify the fish and earthy mushroom/spinach sides. The surprise standout - crunchy green beans were lightly tempura''d and fantastic. Plus free corkage on Fri nights! Tho the waiter didn't notice my 15 yr old bottle and broke the cork. ;("

  • "Had a wonderful time with family at this place. There were carving stations for beef, ham and turkey and two other buffet style locations for hot and cold food. All of it was delicious and well worth the visit. The service was fine and overall it was a very positive experience."
    Dined on 11/28/2013
  • "Our dining "experience" was laughable. The place was overcrowded, one of the buffet stations was only accessible by stairs so those of us who can't climb stairs didn't get to see the food at that station, our table was changed 3 times during the seating process and the food was just OK. While I'm thankful that some restaurants will provide Thanksgiving dinner, this place is clearly not large enough for the number of reservations they accepted."

  • "My husband and I could not have asked for more at this year's Thanksgiving feast. The 3 buffet tables strategically set in different areas of the restaurant were never crowded and always full of fresh, delectable dishes. All of the staff members were exceptionally friendly and festive, and every course was a delight. Thank you, Brick & Bottle, for making our Thanksgiving wishes come true, we'll be back!"
