Diner Reviews
  • "Went there for Sunday lunch. Service was lacking, food was sub-par and value for the meal wasn't worth it. Probably won't go back unless it's for a quick drink."

  • "Overall, a nice restaurant. Visited here twice, once for dinner the other for brunch. Both were fantastic meals with superb service!"

  • "The past 12 months this restaurant has gone through several chef changes. The food quality has gone up and down but has never been as good as when the place first opened. This past visit on Sunday was the worst. Bartender had to wait tables. Food was just so so. They had not much left on the menu to serve. Most of the people in the restaurant were talking with each other saying how bad service was during Sunday dinner. Some tables even left and did not wait for their meals. We had given this place several months to turn it around but at this point I give it six months to a year before it closes. This place cannot survive on Groupons and living social deals forever. Sad to see this place go down hill."

  • "There is a limited menu, which would be fine, except they were out of two entrees and a few small plates, due to being "hit hard" earlier in the day. The server I believe was also the host, part time bartender. The table next to us was there since 6:30, and ended up leaving at around 7:30, without entrees. We ordered iced teas and had no sweetener. After about 10 minutes of no sweetener, my partner went to the bar and got a container of sweetener for the table. When we received our bill, we left our payment, and started walking out. The server was chatting at the bar, looked at us, and kept his conversation going, without a THANK YOU, Come again. Throughout the entire hour and a half, he apologized for the service and wait once."

  • "Very unsatisfied, after sitting at a table for more than two hours, our party of four finally gave up...and I apologize I can not accurately rate the food, because we never got our meals. We were just lucky enough to finally get cranberry juice after 47 mins of waiting."

  • "The food was not bad but we waited for a considerable time to receive the menus, had to ask for the drink menu, waters were never filled, never asked if we wanted a second alcoholic beverage and it took three times to get the check correct. The diners around us seemed to have some of the same issues. The atmosphere made me think I was in a coffee shop in the late sixties in San Francisco. Not the best restaurant experience!"

  • "Menu online has far more options and the photos on the site of plates were not even available. Friendly staff but the small menu and bar like food minus the steak were so/so.Place seems cool but overall wasn't happy and though I was misled"

  • "It is one of the worst restaurants I have been to in a long time. I went because someone gave me a living social deal. When I went online to look at the menu it looked pretty good. When I entered the place I quickly realized that they were false advertising their restaurant to have tasty farm-to-table food, but the menu they handed us had very few items that were listed online. The stairway to go up sunk in as you walked. The bad zebra carpet was the filthiest thing I had ever seen. I do not understand how this restaurant ever passed inspection. The food pretty much matched the atmosphere. We ordered a Margherita flatbread that was literally frozen, bad pizza. My salmon was ok, but small portion for the price. I would NOT recommend!"

  • "The food we ordered are good but we went there for steak and crab cakes which were ran out. should call before going to make sure they have plenty of food."

  • "15 minutes to receive a glass of wine. 15 more to receive: Mussels in a white wine sauce and duck nachos. The duck nachos were ridiculous----there were four pieces of duck meat on the entire plate--trust me--I counted. The whole dish was squirted w/ what I first thought was some kind of sauce, but no, it was sour cream. Just sour cream. This dish is not really a dish at all. Chips, four pieces of duck, one tablespoon of mediocre guacamole, and about a cup of sour cream. The mussels were delicious. We waited 30 minutes for our entree after our appetizer. Everyone like's a bit of a pause, but THIRTY MINUTES? The first half inch of the short rib mac and cheese was delicious. But after that layer the macaroni was literally naked. Awful."

  • "I REALLY DID NOT LIKE HOW A 20% GRATUITY WAS AUTOMATICALLY ADDED TO OUR BILL FOR JUST A PARTY OF 4!!!!! IT WAS A $45 TIP AND MOST OF IT CAME FROM OUR BAR BILL WHICH JACKED UP THE BILL. I WOULD NEVER GIVE THAT MUCH TIP JUST FOR A BAR BILL BUT WAITER, AFRAID OF GETTING RIPPED OFF BECAUSE OF USING GROUPON WORTH $120 , ADDED HIS OWN 20% GRATUITY TO THE TOTAL BILL . I WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN BECAUSE THIS WAS DONE AND HAVE WARNED MY OTHER FRIENDS WHO BOUGHT THIS GROUPON OF THIS RESTAURANTS PRACTICE."

  • "our food was really tasteless and terrible. chicken wings tasted like burnt fast food. spinach salad had mushy carrots. the gnocchi was terrible- so mushy. the lamb burger was also tasteless. on the bright side, the tiramisu was excellent."

  • "Everything we ordered was just ok. Nothing special to note on the overall experience. The menu online has much more to offer than the actual menu. The server we had was very friendly. I went there last year and the food and menu was much better. Don't think I will be back."

  • "Great place with a piano bar upstairs now! It is definitely a neighborhood gem"

  • "I ordered a Manhattan with lemon and it tasted like pure simple syrup. It was so bad that I had to order an extra shot of bourbon to try to take the edge off the sweetness. The menu was very limited; I thought Brick meant brick-oven pizza, but there was only one very basic flatbread on the menu. The menu online was so much more expansive; we were disappointed to see less than half of those options on the actual menu. We were all disappointed with our meals. Our server, however, was excellent and very friendly."

  • "If you are looking for a place for you and a group of friends and want a very basic brunch menu along with the option for unlimited bloody mary or mimosas, then this might be your place. Just don't expect the food to be all that great and do expect the unlimited drinks to be pretty light on the alcohol and cheap on the booze quality. Don't expect to be "wowed" and you will be fine."

  • "Our disappointment began when we looked at the menu. There was very little to choose from. The menu on their website was at least twice as big. People who ordered cocktails were happy with them. The glasses of wine however were about 3 oz. and way too expensive for what the wine was. Besides the chicken wings, no one gave anything else the thumbs up. The entrees were all bland. The entree size for non pasta dishes was very small for the price. If we didn't have a Groupon, I am sure we would have been angry when the check arrived. Our server was pleasant and attentive. Since I picked the restaurant, I was apologizing to my friends all night. I have never written a review this negative before."

  • "We were a little hesitant to dine here given some of the reviews. The drinks are a bargain at $10 and well made. In most restaurants, we typically pay at least $15 for the same drink. We ordered the short rib mac and cheese as an appetizer. It was very good but quite filling. While we had to wait somewhat long for our entree, we didn't mind since we were out to relax. When the food came, it was hot and quite good. Our server was very attentive. We would go back."

  • "The food is absolutely amazing at this place. And the waiters are extremely friendly. I had a favourite restaurant for five years. This is one that matches it (if not beats it)! :)"

  • "Pretty sure this place is going out of business soon and they are trying to get rid of the last of their inventory. They just recently sold over 1000 groupons for 50% off. The food choices were extremely limited nothing near what is listed on line. They offered three beer choices coors lite, Bud and blue moon and only two or three cocktail options. We requested bread with our mussels and the server brought us four bite size pieces of pita for four people! When we inquired about the choice of bread served we were told by the manager that they don't offer bread. The salmon was way too salty, the stuffed chicken was over done and not prepared the way it was advertised and the gnocchi was heavy and tasteless. Very disappointing all around."

  • "Before going to brick I wasn't sure what we were in for because on yelp there had been bad review after bad review but we has a groupon so regardless of what I had read we were going there at least once. I've gotta say it was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. The food was to die for, the atmosphere didn't feel to fancy or to undercut, it was perfect, and the service was exquisite. Our waiter knew everything off the menu without taking a single peek at it, was tentative and polite. Overall whatever they did to get any bad reviews has totally changed because brick American eatery has become one of my favorite places to go!"

  • "I enjoyed this spot, although the menu was quite limited (and was pared down from the menu published on the internet site). It is a basic bar/cafe type ambiance, but a good location. Service was very good."

  • "My cousin and I had Orchestra tickets on Sunday. We parked our car on Lombard St. then walked to the Brick and on to Verizon Hall. It was a wonderful day that began with a tasty brunch at the Brick."

  • "I was looking for a great place in the City to take a friend for a birthday brunch. The online menu was not the same as the restaurant - which was more limited. They no longer do muffin baskets or any kind of pastry basket. Food was decent but nothing spectacular. Selection was small. Kudos to servers which were attentive and friendly. Ambiance was just so-so and very loud. I wanted to do the brunch 2 hour drink special for $20 but we didn't want to linger there for 2 hours so we bagged it. They also took the Bellini off that menu. Probably a great drop-in place for locals but not really where I would go again for a great brunch or place to leave feeling wowed."

  • "We arrived at the restaurant at our reservation time and seated immediately. We were handed 2 sheets of paper, which were our menus. It was different from the on-line menu. No filet minion, no scallops. Both of which my wife and I were planning on having. The waiter apologized.I asked to see the wine list, which again on-line is fairly decent. He came back with 4-5 bottles of wine listed on a pad. I asked him what happened to my choices of 15-20 bottles of wine that the on-line menu listed. Again he apologized, noticing I was getting some what agitated, he finally spilled the truth. The restaurant is planning to close down in the next month or so.Our salmon came with no crab meat or asparagus. Our coffee tasted like mud. For $140 it was BAD!"

  • "The upstairs is also the piano bar and has zebra carpet. No ambiance and it was pretty cold. Not at all what I was expecting, quiet disappointed"

  • "The noise was deafening. Large parties of college age people not caring about others. Low prices on the menu & all you can drink mimosa's drew these crowds in for party. Don't go if you want a quiet meal or if you want to talk to someone else."

  • "Had been before, loved the food and service. Decided to go for valentine's day. Looked at menu online, very excited for scallops and great looking cocktails. Looked to see if they were serving a different menu that night. Nothing to indicate this online. We should have called to check. They were serving fewer dishes and cocktails, all the prices were higher and the portion sizes smaller. Might try again if we get a groupon deal but won't go back on special occasions."

  • "I had picked out the Brick to celebrate Valentine's with my wife. Hostess, bartender, and our waiter were very friendly, but unfortunately our meal was bland. The portions very small and very overpriced as well. My wife ordered the short rib and managed to get 3 small pieces of meat off the bone and my salmon Oscar dinner was gone in 3 bites. Needless to say we left still hungry. Tried to go off the beaten path, but this attempt failed greatly."

  • "My wife and I chose to try the Brick when we found it on Groupon. We did know what to expect other than what we saw on the website. The food was great and the service was outstanding. Eric was our waiter and he was friendly and attentive and knew the menu well. The owners are extremely nice people and they made us feel at home. The piano bar upstairs is a cool scene and the piano player was fun and very talented. We had a great time and definitely wil be back. I would recommend the Brick to anyone but especially nice to have dinner and entertainment in the same place in this frigid winter weather. All you have to do is walk upstairs to have fun."

  • "Made a last minute New Year's Eve reservation and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating. A lot of places on NYE aren't kid friendly- brick was! And although they had the pre-fixed menu, they were flexible enough for us to order off of the regular one- which has some great selections. The burgers were cooked exactly to specification and the nachos were out of sight. Really enjoyed our dinner here. Friendly, hospitable staff- eager to please. Definitely a revisit"
