It was delicious -- a large spread of a wide variety of foods, including an omelette station and a carving station (roast beef and lamb). Most people were seated in a spacious, open, and bright conservatory area. I initially was sorry that we were seated in the interior of the old mansion; but later I came to appreciate the soft background music, and the overall quiet ambiance of the place. Between my wife and I we had the broccoli onion soup, lamb chops, chateaubriand, creme brulee and pumpkin cheesecake. Each dish was very well prepared and plated, tasty, and temperature appropriate (the soup, we agreed, was an exceptionally good dish). Server was friendly, attentive, seemed to enjoy her job, and didn't address us 'you guys', which I appreciated, as my wife is not a guy.
The building itself apparently is of significant historical value, but seems a bit underplayed and could use a bit of professional updating. It was my first time ever eating at a high class restaurant so I didn't know what to really expect. The five course meal was exquisite, beautifully presented, and well worth the money. The food was very good, and we had a choice of ala carte (my wife is a lite eater) and the five course meal, which I got and shared the dessert with my wife. This historic setting in the foothills of the Rampart Range is beautiful. Our service was very good, the room we were in was very quiet, even with several other diners in the same room. What a pleasant surprise awaited us as we walked in and were warmly greeted while our coats were checked. We had barely sat down in a quiet alcove when a hostess escorted us to a cozy table in one of their many rooms. It could not have been more perfect. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgable. We ordered a bottle of wine and a five-course meal. Each course was a delight to our senses as well as our palate.

The Briarhurst Manor in Manitou Springs, CO provides tables that are well spaced apart, multiple dinning rooms that allow for a small number of people you are dinning with, and a staff that are pleasant and friendly. While you will pay a bit more for dinner you will in turn receive a special dinning experience that cannot easily be duplicated.
