Diner Reviews
  • "Brennan's staff makes us feel like we are special clients, and attend to our every need - great service, great food, great ambience, and when we turn the corner into the street, I feel like I am back home in New Orleans. I didn't like the new version of Creme Brulee' because there was too much caramelzed sugar and not enough creme, but the five tomato salad with balsalmic dressing was divine, as were the crab cakes -all crab no bread."

  • "From the moment you walk in until you leave, this is quite an experience. We were early, but were greeted and seated promptly. The high back chairs make for a very intimate and cozy atmosphere. Our server could not have been better. From the initial greeting to the kitchen tour he was always available and ready to help. The drinks were tasty and our appetizers of their Seafood Gumbo and Turtle Soup were nicely done. A little more heat in the Gumbo would have been nice along with a browner roux for the Turtle Soup. The Crab cakes are all crab -- no filler. The Fillet Mignon was a little over done and the "Oscar" could have been better. We were too stuffed for desert, but it was my birthday so we got some Pralines anyway. Well Done!"

  • "No matter which location i go to, i always find Brennan's to be good, but not great. I started with the gumbo - the taste was quite good, consistency rich, but it was tepid and the shrimp were overcooked. Next was the snapper - it was cooked nicely but the sauce was unimpressive. Finally, the bread pudding was good, but not memorable - the menu description was better than the actual dish. The service was quite good and the 2007 Brunello was lovely and priced reasonably for the quality it delivered. So once again, i just wish Brennan's would aspire to greatness and stop settling for being good."

  • "My wife and I try to get to Brennan's at least here to four times a year, especially for special occasions. I booked a table asking for an intimate dinner and the restaurant put us at the perfect table near a window away from the main dining area. We tried the crawfish waffle, which sounds weird but the flavors were amazing. I had the special (10 oz. filet with Oscar sauce and crab meat over smashed potatoes) and it was superb. My wife had her favorite dish, Shrimp Chippewa ( shrimp sautéed table side over goat cheese grits). The service is always wonderful, the ambience always superb. This is easily one of our favorite restaurants in Houston. Definitely a special place to go if you're looking for a great night out."

  • "Phenomenal gumbo, real redfish and pecan pie to die for. My wife called the bananas foster was sublime! Lunch began with complimentary champagne and a "little plate" of crab for each. Service was excellent and personable - without being intrusive. And good strong - but not bitter - coffee to end the meal. Fantastic - as usual. Have never had a bad meal at Brennan's!"

  • "Wife and I went here for our first anniversary and had a great time! They treated us exceptionally well and the food was outstanding. I had the veal ribeye topped with crawfish, and my wife had the filet mignon. Both were fantastic! I can't wait for our next visit!"

  • "We celebrated my husband's 81st birthday with a wonderful brunch. Francisco, our waiter, was outstanding. He brought a special plate of pralines and strawberries for a birthday surprise. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Brennan's. We wish we lived closer so we could make this a frequent event."

  • "First time dining at Brennan's. Beautiful restaurant and the food was delicious, however we were thrown by the cool greeting in reception area (valet service was great -courteous and welcoming). Table service was friendly but extremely slow and lacked polish."

  • "This is our 'go to' for special occasions and for the heck of it. The quality of food and service, the consistency, the atmosphere - this is home. Our only complaint is they should be allowed to tell us we've eaten too much and take our plates away before the last bites, heh."

  • "Come early so that you can sit outside on the patio. It was a perfect Houston spring day complete with sunshine, lovely floral arrangements, and a small jazz band. The three-course combination style of the brunch menu gives you a hearty fill of any of Brennan's favorites. My spouse and friend chose the Benedict combos while I opted for the famous shrimp and grits with an oyster crepe appetizer and rich bread pudding for dessert. We were in a true "food coma" after this."

  • "This was my girlfriend and I's first time dining and this restaurant. We had eaten at Commander's Palace in New Orleans a number of times, so our expectations were high. The food was exactly what we anticipated and the service was nothing short of incredible. Our waiter's name was Rodney and I am not sure that we could have been treated any better. First class service is all I can say. I give it my highest recommendation. I was leaving for Las Vegas the next day, so this was just what I needed for my girlfriend."

  • "Took my husband's sisters to Brennan's to celebrate their birthday. Everything was really good...even though it took us to leave before some one else recognized their birthday, even when we told our waiter and manager that we were celebrating their birthday. Overall, we all had a good night. The grits are awesome and the pralines are to die for."

  • "The turtle soup was nice and the banana's foster was GREAT. The pork was disappointing. Great atmosphere, but not sure it was worth the price."

  • "My wife took me to Brennan's of Houston to celebrate my birthday. We were seated promptly at a table designated for us exclusively. We are frequent diners for brunch; however, the food for dinner was simply outstanding. The flavors and textures of our meals were amazing. The wine list was great and featured many excellent wines at very reasonable prices. We chose a rose champagne from a lesser known winery that was outstanding. The service was great meaning that our waiter was attentive but not intrusive. We had a great leisurely paced meal reminding me of meals in great European restaurants."

  • "Here's a New Orlean classic in Houston. The food was disappointing for the price point with the exception of the crab cakes and bread pudding. The restaurant is beautiful and is a wonderful place if you want to celebrate a special occasion and do not expect too much from the food. I can only compare this to the Commanders Palace in NOLA, not the Brennan's."

  • "We had an outstanding experience this weekend @ Brennan's of Houston.....I had a party of 4 and this was the 1st time for 2 of them....From the time we arrived the valet greeted us with a very warm reception....then we entered and was greeted by a lovely lady at the front desk that had us seated quickly without hesitation. Our server was knowledgeable and knew the menu and offered great suggestions of which wine would go well with our dishes...even the guy filling the water glasses was friendly and courteous to us. We also took the shuttle to Jones Hall and that too was a very pleasant experience ....we all were so grateful for Brennan's providing this service to its customers....We all agreed that this will be our spot.."

  • "Food was tasty, but it was difficult to locate the very small piece of red snapper under the sauce. The kitchen should not serve such ridiculously small portions."

  • "Upon arriving we were greeted by the "head" waiter, and then was never again approached by him or a manger, even after my entrée initially came out burnt, to which was replaced by a new steak. It seemed like we were sat in the "less dressed" or casual section since my fiancé was not wearing a tie, so I would recommend wearing a coat and tie if you'd like to sit in the grownup part of the restaurant. Francisco did an excellent job of staying on top of things, even where Matt seemed to slack."

  • "I know this isn't New Orleans, but we expected better service and food for the price. Our waiter didn't seem very interested in serving us and forgot simple things such as coffee refills with our brunch. Standard brunch dishes, such as eggs Benedict, were okay, not outstanding at all. The only saving factor was a pretty good bread pudding and bananas foster. Future brunches in Houston will be elsewhere for us!"

  • "A friend and I dined at Brennan's this past Friday evening. I have been to Brennan's many times of the past 50 years. It was the first time for my friend. We were both surprised at the fish Ponchartrain entree, as the fish was a little tough, and the sauce/seasoning wasn't as good as usual. The turtle soup and bananas foster were excellent. I hope that this was an aberration. Thanks, Randy PIke"

  • "Entering Brennen we were greeted beautifully... getting seated was great also.. but our waiter service wasn't what i expected to have a high class resturant. Our food wasn't anything that I expected , granted it was presented good but taste wasn't there. The men guest order the bananas foster and the servers that were to make them by table side didn't come until we had to notify our waiter and we were apologized to by given us each a bag of pralines containing (2) pralines each... really I have been to less expensive restaurants with less issues and better service"

  • "Every aspect of our dining experience was superb. From the time we entered the restaurant, we were seated quickly. The service was outstanding. The food was exactly how I remembered it when I visited the original Brennan's, in the French Quarter, in New Orleans. I will definitely return soon."

  • "Went to Brennan's on a recommendation from a trusted friend; she is never wrong and proved herself once again! Went there for brunch to start of a weekend celebrating a friends birthday. Incredible service, and outstanding food! Highly recommend the turtle soup if youve never tried it! Definitely adding this restaraunt to our list of must go to!"

  • "We love Brennan's and are usually quite happy, but this time it was not as good. I understand that it may have been busier than usual, so it didn't bother us too much that our waiter was rushed. The biggest disappointment was that the food was not as good as usual, perhaps because it was a smaller menu and they may have been mass producing the plates. Not sure. I am sure that it was mediocre, and Brennan's shouldn't be mediocre."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "The ambience of Brennan's really sets the stage for the evening; the brick walls and oversize chairs add to the New Orleans charm. The food was wonderful and the staff was very friendly and attentive, without being intrusive. I would highly recommend Brennan's and I look forward to going again."

  • "Lunch was a hit for all four diners. Soups were outstanding as was Shrimp Remoulade - just like home in NOLA. Nice send off to NAPE Conference. Main courses just as good, Drum Ponchartrain excellent."

  • "This is the best of all the Brennan Family restaurants. I am a New Orleans native and grew up eating at all the various Brennan's restaurants. I always loved Commander's Palace, but the Houston Brennan's is now the best. The menu is very creative, the preparation and presentation impeccable and the service superb. This is my first choice for business lunches when I am in Houston."
