  • "This place was definitely a great find. We originally passed by it and didn't see anything special peeking inside during the day. However, after searching for a new place to eat, this came highly recommended. It is not cheap dining, but it is definitely worth every penny. The ambience is very well done, the menu is very high quality, and the staff is very friendly. I highly recommend anything with the scallops or filet mignon, as they were the best I've had in a long time. The selection of wine and beer is notable as well. We could easily tell there are a ton of regulars that frequent this place, which is always a great sign. If you're in the mood for something special, this is the place!"

  • "Food was amazing! Everything we had was perfect! The service, not so great. We came in and there wasn't anyone at the hostess stand. We waited awkwardly for 3 minutes by the door. Once we were seated a waitress came over right away. That was great! She took our appetizer order right away. When it was time for the entree order she took a tad too long. Overall our experience was good. Had we not had to wait awkwardly to be seated, it would have been great."

  • "First time there, bought a living social to try, we live in Bluffton. Great experience! Normally not a tapas fan because of food to price ratio, this was an exception. Service was excellent & helpful! Can't say enough good about the food. Diver scallops & risotto were off the chart good. Calamari was the BEST we have ever had. Everything including chocolate molten cake was fantastic. We will be back & tell our friends. Keep up the good work."

  • "Went to dinner with my neighbor and we had a fabulous meal. She had the grouper special and I had the shrimp and the scallops tapas. We started off with the pickled green tomatoes which were a very nice. The grouper was perfectly cooked and very well seasoned. The shrimp were very lightly battered, more like a tempura batter rather than the heavy breading many places used. The batter did not hide the full flavor of the shrimp. The scallops were sweet and delicious. Dessert finished our wonderful night out. The meal confirmed yet again that this is one of my favorite places in town!"

  • "This was the first time me and my fiance had gone to this restaurant and we were not disappointed. Our server was charming and incredibly helpful from the drink and appetizer suggestions as well as her description of the catch of the day. She won me over with her description of the mussels served over basmati rice - the fresh catch of the day - and my fiance had the fried chicken dinner. As amazing as the mussels were, my fiance's friend chicken was the crispiest chicken I had ever tasted! Everything was delicious and we definitely plan on making a return trip to Breakwater the next time we stay in Downtown Beaufort, SC."

  • "We had a table for 5 on Monday and ordered off the 2 for 20. What a great deal! I had Caesar salad & the excellent lamb meatloaf; husband had same salad & a delicious pork ribeye. The savings was amazing! Portion was a full dinner size, so had extra for lunch the next day. Tuesday we had dinner at Breakwater to celebrate a 70th birthday. We were treated to an amuse bouche of pulled pork in a taco shell that was very tasty. A bottle of Moet Chandon that was perfectly chilled, and we had the meatball tapas to split. I was full, so had the always superb diver scallop tapas as my main course, and the birthday boy had a perfectly cooked filet mignon. Had the fab molten choc cake for desert. all served by the wonderful Juliet."

Wednesday night is Burger Night and always features a new and delicious rendition of one of America's favorites."

  • "I had dinner with a friend recently at the restaurant. Because the food is seasonal the menu is updated. There were many new additions to the menu & I decided to try the fried chicken with mashed potatoes with green veg. The chicken was moist and lightly coated and potatoes divine. Since I do not eat fried food that much this was a treat for me. My friend had the crab cakes and she remarked how tasty they were. She is from the DC area and summered on the Chesapeake Bay, so she knows about good crab cakes. We began with the pimento cheese which was delicious. My friend opted for dessert and she had the lava cake with ice cream and a fudge sauce. She loved it! Always an excellent experience & the quality of the food is wonderful. "

The host was very knowledgeable of the items on the menu. She was very attentive to our needs. Offered several choices for us to decide on. The food was EXCELLENT. Very well prepared.   • "We took friends from out of town to Breakwater because we knew it would be great food & atmosphere. It was a busy weekend and since we had an odd number, 7, we were seated in the wine room. What a treat!,the guests felt extra special. The restaurant has just broken though the wall in the bar to the front room making it much airier and showing folks on the street the action inside. It's an amazing transformation; looks awesome. Speaking of awesome, the food was just that - as usual. I had the diver scallops over a delicious risotto, and the lamb chop w/ red onion marmalade. My husband had the carne cruda after his favorite, the wedge salad and he said it was perfect. Service by Lisa was good, but Juliet is my fave. Always a pleasure!"

  • "We went to Breakwater on Saturday 3 May 2014 for dinner. We had a couple of cocktails in the bar before being seated. The bar has recently been extended and it is a wonderful new space enhancing the already great bar. We were seated for dinner at our convenience and by the window as we requested. Our server was well informed and attentive giving us plenty to think about with the specials. We decided to order off of the regular menu and all was delicious. We skipped dessert as we were still full but did have coffee to finish with. Are we going back soon? Absolutely."

  • "My husband and I dined at Breakwater Restaurant on our first trip to Beaufort. We were extremely pleased with out meals (grouper and crab cakes) and the Pimento cheese appetizer and bread pudding for dessert. Everything was delicious, well prepared, and well seasoned. We've dined at some of the best restaurants in Charleston, and feel this is right up there with the best! But the best part of the evening was our waitress. Unfortunately, I didn't get her name, but she brightened up the restaurant with her bubbly personality, and warm smile. We will surely return on our next visit to Beaufort!"

  • "We are rarely disappointed at Breakwater. It's a lively scene for Beaufort locals and visitors alike. The soft shelled crabs, now in season, were lovely. The kitchen was willing to sauté them, rather than deep frying, and the accompanying sauce was perfect. Two of us had shrimp creole, featuring the local shrimp, which aren't large, but so sweet. The creole sauce was tasty with a bit of zing - while delicious, perhaps a bit heavy for the delicate shrimp. A must-try to share is the deep fried pickled brussell sprouts with a dipping sauce. The molten chocolate cake is decadent enough to serve several as well. The staff does an excellent, attentive job of serving without hovering. A lovely evening for us and our guests."

  • "The entire dining experience was exceptional. My family did have a reservation, therefore, we were seated immediately. Table #15 was perfect-a corner table that afforded a lovely view of the rain glazing the street amid the cars driving by. Customer table-traffic and waiter hustle-bustle were minimal. The service was attentive without hovering. Adequate server-time lapsed between each course...the starter cocktails and appetizers through the dessert. Our palates were rewarded with selected seafood, fowl, and tenderloin tapas. The wine list and dessert options gratified and complimented the cuisine.
