Bread & Winefantastic brunchWe went for a Mother’s day brunch. Best brunch in years! I would rate this above Publican for foodies that want a different brunch experience...all food was great! We will be back!!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMDeliciousWent to Bread & Wine for brunch on Mother's Day. We have been here in the past but this was our first time going for brunch. The food was delicious as usual and the service was friendly and efficient. My wife and I will definitely be back for brunch again to try all the other options on the menu that sounded good.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWhen you give a restaurantWhen you give a restaurant 5 stars across the board, there isn't much more to say except thank you for a delightful Mother's Day brunch.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMI really enjoyed Sunday brunchI really enjoyed Sunday brunch - the food was excellent, especially the pork belly and salted caramel panna cotta, and the service was friendly. I loved dining at the counter - watching the chefs cook and talking to them about the food was a special and fun experience. It was a trendy but not pretentious atmosphere. Added bonus is a parking lot in front. The only thing I would not reorder was the Bloody Mary - it tasted like maybe they added clamato juice which some people really like in their Bloody Marys, it's just not a taste I enjoy. I would return to try the dinner menu and recommend this place to others.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMBetter and betterThis is our second time dining there...the first time was with a group of 6, this time was just me and my husband. We enjoyed our meal the first time, but the restaurant had just opened. I think they've really come into their own now. This time, we were seated at the chef's counter, so we got to watch everything being prepared. What a great show! The food was fantastic...from top to bottom - we split 5 charcuterie meats & cheeses, 2 small plates, 2 large plates, 1 dessert. Awesome. All of it was great, but the octopus small plate was amazing.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMHappy this gem is in Old Irving! We've dined here on a variety of occassions and each time has lived up to the expectation of a good meal with great service. You can't go wrong with any of their cheeses and the house made chicken pate is wonderful. A must get is the Panna Cotta for dessert - wish they had this in a to-go container! It is wonderful to have a restaurant like this in the neighborhood. Make sure to sign up for their emails as they offer special events where they create a custom meal that is paired with a craft beer/liquor, it's a fun experience.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMBest dinner I've had in a while! We were greeted warmly, and sat immediately (we had a res). Our waiter was very hip and friendly and very attentive, but not overly so. We tried a small charcuterie plate with chicharróns, a goat's milk cheese, and the chicken liver paté. We expected a more "modern", heartier version of the chicharrón... we got a light as air, very crispy wisp of a thing that exploded in a shower of tiny crumbs when we tried to break it to share it. It was tasty, but most of it went on the table. But the paté rocked, and the cheese was yum. Then we had the octopus, which was amazing. Then I had the butter poached walleye, and I think it was one of the top 3 meals I have ever eaten. My husband had the chorizo burger...delicious!!! Great wine list too.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Place! We just moved into the neighborhood and love we have a little foodie place to go to!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experienceFour of us had excellent meals at Lokal. The appitizers, grilled chicken salad and pirogues, were very good. The chicken pieces were substanstial and seasoned very nicely and the water crress gave a lovely kick.. The pirogues had a tasty sauce and the dough was good. Three of us ordered the trout and one a steak. The trout was tasty and the accompanying asperegus was perfectly al-dente. The steak was large, perfectly cooked and seasoned very well. The woman that was our waitress was also an owner of Lokal and her knowledge of everything on the menu was very helpful. All of the waitstaff were friendly.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMSave room for desertFine dining in the neighborhood. We have eaten here several times and the place gets better on each visit. Just fresh well prepared food, cooked and seasoned to perfection; with attentive service.
Each desert we have had has left us wanting more. Have the popcorn panna cotta! It is the perfect combo of sweet creamy and salty.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved Bread & Wine! FoodieLoved Bread & Wine! Foodie Friendly option in an unexpected location. Food was excellent...a bit of a twist on what everyone else seems to be doing. Our server was friendly and helpful. Good cocktails and wine. Overall a sure bet for a good night!!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMStop just driving by....We have all been driving by this great place since they opened over a year ago. (on the way to the Kennedy) Really tasty food, well presented, nice variety of different foods. Parking, Parking, Parking, plenty of it. Try it you will love it!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMCreative Cocktails, Seasonal FoodIf you like a unique cocktail, order the Pantone -it has bourbon, beets and some aromatic spirits, is well-balanced and savory and a gorgeous beet red color. My friend had the walleye, which she enjoyed and we started with the charcuterie plate (a MUST) and I had the pasta with lamb and fine herbs, also very good. I'm not a big dessert person, but the salted caramel popcorn custard is DELICIOUS-sweet and salty and crunchy and creamy. Enough for 2 to share. Service is outstanding and friendly.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWill Return SoonBread and Wine was a terrific find. In a remodeled laundry mat (that looks nothing like a remodeled laundry mat), the place has a nice mix of tables, a bar and a counter to eat at overlooking the kitchen. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the food was outstanding. Interesting and adventurous menu. The set-up encourages folks at neighboring tables to chat. We will be back for the beer pairing menu in a couple of weeks!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWill Be Back! What a find! We really enjoyed our experience at Bread and Wine. Inventive flavors that were well executed and great service. The pineapple and pink peppercorn dessert was amazing. We also really enjoyed the marinated squid, semolina gnocchi, roast chicken, and flap steak. We will be back!4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMI enjoyed the food. It wasI enjoyed the food. It was very fresh and innovative. However, the prices are very steep, especially for brunch.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food and service wereThe food and service were outstanding. Very unique food combinations made for a wonderful surprise. The service staff was engaging and prepared. I will certainly be going to Bread and Wine again.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThe menu description of theThe menu description of the items had us worried. But . . . we loved everything we tried which was significant! The octopus was the most tender we had ever experienced. The noise level was not horrible unless the table next to you has a couple of really loud laughers.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat celebrationSat at the chef's bar and had an amazing dinner. From the charcuterie (a bit expensive, but good portions), to small plates (suncoke salad and a ham and 6 sec egg salad) to the steak and Lamb TBone special it was a perfect night. Capped with a perfect ending of Nutella Mud Pie and Salted Caramel PannaCotta, I'm not sure it could have been any more perfect. We really enjoyed our bottle of Sancere (although it was a tad pricey) and the little extras the chefs gave us were a nice treat. I would suggest the chef's bar for a party of 3 or fewer. It a really neat touch.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat find!Brunch was AMAZING! We bought a Gilt City certificate because it sounded interesting, and we were not dissapointed! We will be back - many times!
In a word Fantastic!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was very good. TheThe food was very good. The cocktails, wine list and service were terrific. A first class, top-notch dining experience. I highly recommend this little neighborhood gem.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWe ordered the fish and theWe ordered the fish and the burger. Flavors are very good, however the burger was dryer than expected, lean. DO NOT SKIP DESSERT. We had the panna cotta for dessert. Freshly made caramel pop corn would make this treat a 10 star delight! Server was polite and attentive without being annoying. Good music at volume where you could hear your tables conversation but not others. Fantastic profile pic of Steve Buscemi in "Reservoir Dogs." Classic!4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat tasting food- very uniqueGreat tasting food- very unique flavors, great service- looking forward to going back! Parking was the only problem we had.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMMy husband and I have beenMy husband and I have been here twice and each time we've been impressed. The wait staff have always been exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and the atmosphere has been vibrant. Usually when we go out we rarely order appetizers or dessert but here I make sure I have room! They have a very interesting selection of small plates and their desserts are fantastic; definitely try the salted caramel panna cotta.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMWe took out neighbors to dinnerWe took out neighbors to dinner as a thank you for dog-sitting. We had been several times and the food has always been great. We wanted to show it off to our neighbors. It did not disappoint. We like the creative menu, that changes quite frequently. This night two options on the small plate menu were duck balls and beef tongue. Of course we had to order both. They were great, especially the tongue which was the best thing I've put in my mouth in a long time. The large plate entrees we ordered were also good but hard to compete with the tongue and balls. Service was helpful but not intrusive. Great night complimented with good reasonably priced wine selections.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMI went for a Sunday brunchI went for a Sunday brunch and enjoyed the experience and the food. The owners have transformed the space in such a great way. I tried the pork belly with cheese grits and an egg. Delicious! My friend who doesn't like grits tried them and enjoyed the taste. the pork belly was both melt in your mouth yummy and had a great crunch. Our server was friendly and welcomed us into the restaurant. Great overall experience.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoyed everything we ate.We enjoyed everything we ate. Great choices, interesting dishes. Definitely will go back. Service is not super speedy, but that gives you more time to relax with your friends.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMOur experience at Bread &Our experience at Bread & Wine was wonderful. Their house charcuterie is amazing, as are the cheeses. Our server was very knowledgeable about the food and wine list and we enjoyed a very nice, unusual bottle of wine at a great price. We even bought a bottle to take home. You can tell they use the freshest ingredients as the flavors really shine through. The Chef is really good at combining textures, as was exemplified by the ravioli course. For dessert, we loved the panna cotta! I would go back for that alone. And we will be back.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesomely awesomeTried five different items from the charcuterie and cheese selections, all were tremendous. Hog shoulder and octopus small plates were out of this world. Don't miss the walleye large plate, beautiful presentation with flavors to match. All in all, one of the better dining experiences to date in Chicago.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMI really enjoyed the ambianceI really enjoyed the ambiance and service at this neighbor restaurant. The chorizo squid appetizer was delish! Will go again for sure.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMIncredibly good menu and greatIncredibly good menu and great service from both wait staff and chefs. Chef's bar is highly recommended for two people.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMA bright light in a neighborhodA bright light in a neighborhod not generally noted for contemporary restaurants. Menu is creative, if not quite gourmet. Some fabric runners across the ceiling dampen the noise. Our server was very attentive all through the meal. All in all, a nice dinng experience.
P.S. For a restaurant named Bread & Wine, where was the bread?3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat neighborhood dining spotGreat selection of cocktails, wine, beer and small plates. Everything we tasted was very good. Service was very attentive. Noise level was energetic and at times made it difficult to hear. Would return!!!3/2/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic in all ways!Fabulous all around! The carrot salad is not to be missed. The service fabulous and a great addition
to the neighborhood!3/1/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful find in Irving Park!Wonderful find in Irving Park! Unfortunately, they close rather early, but for a weeknight dinner or get together, Bread and Wine is ideal! Delicious charcuterie, unique shareable items, great cocktails (and wine).2/28/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect brunchHad a beautiful and delicious brunch and the service was excellent. Two of our party of six were stuck in traffic, so they arrived 40 minutes late. Our waitress was patient and accommodating. Many of us are vegetarians so a couple more items on the menu that we could eat would have been preferable, however, the dishes that were vegetarian were delightful. Our waitress also mentioned that we could call ahead next time and the chef would do his best to accommodate our dietary needs.2/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful experienceWe had a wonderful experience at Bread & Wine! Everyone on staff was very kind, and we felt taken care of the entire night. Everything we sampled from the menu was spectacular. The tofu dish is one to note, as it was full of flavor and cooked to perfection - not always easy to achieve.2/23/2013 12:00:00 AMTerrific food & service. ItTerrific food & service. It feels like a special occasion whenever we go here!2/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThoroughly enjoyed my firstThoroughly enjoyed my first experience at B&W. Tremendous service - attentive, polite, helpful server as well as hosts. Food was very good, especially the ravioli and the gnocchi. Noise level is perfect - energetic and fun, but not overwhelmed by noise from the open kitchen or other tables. Very comfortable ambiance.2/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful meal, andWe had a wonderful meal, and phenomenal service. Surprisingly upscale food for the area - a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. We'll be back....often.2/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was the first time IThis was the first time I have dined at Bread & Wine and it was a great experience. The staff was very friendly and helpful throughtout the night. The cheese choices we ordered were a wonderful mix and paired great with our wine based on our servers recommendation. All 3 entress ordered were fabulous. Our group ordered a skirt steak, the burger and the chicken. All were paired well with delicious complimenting sides. The open kitchen viewing area is fun to see the chefs up close making and prepping the food. I will definately return. And there is a parking lot which is a huge bonus so you don't have to look for street parking.2/16/2013 12:00:00 AMBday dinnerGreat dinner on my wife's birthday. Had a small plate, two entrees and two desserts. She had the flank steak and the panacotta, I had the lamb belly and the custard. We sat at the chefs counter, which was awesome! Food was great and service was even better. Also, give the signature cocktails a try. They're always changing, but always delicious.2/15/2013 12:00:00 AMNotable GnocchiThe flank steak and gnocchi were outstanding! My only real problem was that it is just toooo noisy. However, I'm glad that they're doing so well. We need interesting restaurants in the neighborhood.2/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWe always have a fantasticWe always have a fantastic time at Bread & Wine. The food is absolutely delicious! The service is always really great. We've sat at the chef's counter, in the dining room, and in the little "shop" area. Each time we've had a great experience, although the shop area was a little chilly on the cold winter night. If anything, we wish this restaurant were bigger to accommodate more in the dining room. But always a great meal and a great night out!2/15/2013 12:00:00 AMMy husband and I went forMy husband and I went for valentines; Got there pretty early (6pm), and by 6:30, the place was packed. I think they were working very hard to keep all their reservations on schedule b/c we were seated, served, billed, and out the door in an hour and 5 min! We did feel a little rushed to quickly finish as they kept tying to take away our plates before we were done. Food wise, we had the burger (good, but on the small side), octopus (yum, and actually I was surprised by the generous portion), and the semolina gnocchi (very different from your normal gnocchi - they were breaded/fried cubes of rich deliciousness. Super heavy, but totally worth it). All in all, great splurge place to try once.2/14/2013 12:00:00 AMOur first time there. WhatOur first time there. What a lovely place! Food was great, service was just right. Definitely will go back.2/13/2013 12:00:00 AMNeighborhood Gem for FoodiesOur first visit to Bread & Wine couldn't possible have turned out any better. We were fortunate enough to sit at the Chef's counter and were impressed with the level of organization and commitment to food quality of Chef Curtis Gamble and kitchen staff. The food was delicious, particularly the fine cheeses and house-made sausages available, as well as many of the main menu items including the grilled Octopus (my personal favorite) and the Corned Beef ravioli. The wait staff was kind, knowledgeable and very responsive as well. We'll definitely be back.2/9/2013 12:00:00 AMI drove by several times andI drove by several times and was always curious about the place. My sister and I finally dined there on a whim after a long day of shopping. The food was excellent, our server Josh was outstanding - very knowledgable about the menu, passionate about the restaurant and very attentive. I will definitely return. Try the salted caramel panacotta and the burger with chorizo on a pretzel bun - delicious! The Rillet was also wonderful and you cannot go wrong with cheese and charcuterie.2/9/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a great and interestingAlways a great and interesting meal with some of the most helpful and pleasant staff to be found. From the minute you walk in they actively make your experience wonderful and somehow make you feel like they opened up that day just for you. And then you have food and wine and it becomes a complete experience!2/8/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our first time atThis was our first time at Bread & Wine. Everything was top-notch from start to finish. The hostess and our bartender/waiter were friendly, helpful and very friendly, which made for a lovely evening celebrating a friend's birthday.2/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
