A word from Bread & Tulips
BREAD & TULIPS (Pane & Tulipani) is a cozy neighborhood spot serving rustic Italian cooking in a casual setting. The menu is inspired by the regional diversity of Italy and features handmade pastas and pizzas, in addition to traditional antipasti, crostini etc.

The warmly lit dining room is informal and comfortable; a simple tulip adorns each table.

The semi- private chef's table in the wine alcove provides a welcoming space for larger parties. A family style tasting menu with optional wine pairings is also available at the chef's table and throughout the dining room, for groups of 6 or more.

Diner Reviews
  • "My boyfriend and I tried this place during restaurant week for dinner. The portions were relatively small, but it was good. He had the salmon dish which was simple and nothing to brag about. The decor is great as a romantic setting, all wood in the lower level and dimly lit. The waitress was attentive and overall it was a good meal."

  • "The homemade pasta was great, so was the salad, pizza not so much. Staff was friendly and attentive. Good wine by the glass selection. Cozy downstairs spot tucked away from the hustle and bustle. Definitely worth a try."

  • "I was very disappointed by the food especially since I ordered pretty straightforward items. Kale salad and a basic appetizer. Ambience and location are fine but not worth it."

  • "I have been to Bread & Tulips with friends and business associates several times and have never been disappointed. Service is Friendly and the food has always been fresh and delicious. The atmosphere is very relaxed and never rushed. I look forward to my next visit."

  • "my daughter and I were staying at the Hotel Giraffe and this lovely little restaurant was the perfect close to a very busy day. we enjoyed the pasta and the salmon and found the service to be attentive and very nice. "

  • "We've eaten here twice and enjoyed it both times. Great Italian food. On the second visit a salad one of us ordered was dull, mainly lettuce without much else. But I complained and they gave us a free dessert. Friendly good service."

  • "We found this on OpenTable and thought we would give it a try. Though it's connected to a hotel, it's a great little neighborhood restaurant with amazing service and a really warm decor that was very cozy after a long rainy day. Food was delicious - right down to my pear almond tart for dessert. "

  • "This is one of those hiddeN, but really nice italian restaurants in NY."

  • "I made a very early reservation not knowing how busy the restaurant gets, we were the only table in the entire restaurant so I was a little put off by how dry and inconvenienced the waitress made me feel. I felt rushed to pick which wine I wanted because she seemed annoyed that I hadn't decided before I asked for one. Outside of that, the service was fine, I probably wouldn't have even noticed had I not been the only patron needing to be tend to. Food was good, the best house olives I have ever had and the restaurant is beautiful and would be great for a dinner party for 8-10 people. "

  • "My friend and I caught up over their meatballs as a starter (they were delish and the sauce went perfect the bread). For our entrees we ordered the mortadella pizza (still thinking about it and would go back to try another one of their pizzas) and their tagliatelle Nero pasta. Pasta sauce was very light and good. "

  • "I love this place--especially for lunch. I first went with my husband for dinner shortly after they opened. We had liked it very much. Then I recently went with a friend for lunch. It was excellent. Their prix-fix lunch is a fantastic value. I had their meatball appetizer and the beet & ricotta ravioli. Two very good dishes. The ravioli was beautifully prepared: pasta had perfect shape, visual appeal and the filling was velvety smooth in that great beet red color. My friend had the kale salad and the trenette with bolognese. I tasted the kale salad as well. It was refreshing and flavorful, dressed just the right amount. I had the mixed sorbet for dessert and each flavor was delicious. Perfect lunch spot to meet with friends."

  • "B&T was awesome for lunch. My best friend and I went there during restaurant week for lunch and had a great time. The ambiance was great.. nice little underground exposed brick restaurant with great simple food!"

  • "Four of us went for restaurant week and all ordered off the restaurant week menu. We all ordered differnt things--the appetizer meatballs were very good, the kale salad was good, the shrimp was OK For the main we all ordered differnet items; the steak was very good, the scallops were good, the fish was fair and the steak was DRY--very disappointing since a friend had recommended the chicken from when she went--but not during restaurant week. Not sure if they serve diffenerntly for restaurant week--if they do it was a big mistake. We wanted to try it because of restaurant week but we will not be back."

  • "I reserved a table for 2 and was pleased to be seated in a cozy semi-circular booth. We enjoyed the meatballs and shrimp & chorizo skewers to start, but the sumptuous pan-seared sea scallops were the star attraction. We split the delightful chocolate mousse with hazelnut gelato as well as the outstanding orange-infused olive oil cake with passion fruit sorbetto for dessert. The wine pairing was something I raved about to colleagues the next day (Sauvignon Blanc, Chianti, and a very lovely Brachetto d'Acqui). Compliments to the chef for thoughtful flavor and texture combinations (fresh pepper on the shrimp, creamy ricotta with the meatballs, subtle citrus on the fennel salad, passion fruit and orange) and the minimalism to enjoy them."

  • "The waitress, Jess, was very attentive and our table was readily restocked with bread and sparkling water as needed. I had the roasted beet and goat cheese ravioli and sea bass with broccoli rabe, both dishes were excellent. There is a nice vibe in this place and though it was crowded, I didn't feel overwhelmed. I recommend making reservations if you choose to have dinner there. The bar is also a great place to mingle. I plan on returning soon!"

  • "Came here for business lunch and were in a rush. The service was a little slow, but the food was good, and the options were exactly what some people in the group were looking for."

  • "My friends and I went to this spot for restaurant week and had a great time. The space wasn't crowded (for transparency - it was a Tuesday) and ambiance was relaxed. Dim lighting and beautiful decor. Everyone there was extremely friendly. Only cons were that service was a little slow and the food was a little pricey...otherwise great!"

  • "We have been in NYC for much of February and enjoyed eating out daily. Sadly our meal at Bread & Tulip was by far the most disappointing. We opted for the restaurant week menu and all the meat dishes were appalling. We complained and the service immediately became a lot less friendly! Would not return or recommend."

  • "Tips for the management of Bread & Tulips. - We book through OpenTable to avoid confirmation phone calls when you book a reservation the traditional way. At B&T, they insist that you call them to confirm your reservation even though you have already confirmed it with OT. - One of the marks of a service oriented restaurant (especially one as small as B&T) is to carry over your bar tab to your dinner table. At B&T, the waiter insisted that we close our bar tab even though our table was only a few feet away. - The most annoying thing that happened was that the waiter told the 4 of us to either order from prix fix or the regular menu but that we could not do both because it would throw off their timing... REALLY? We ignored this directive."

  • "We thought the selection of wines was good and our server Jess brought sàmples to help us make our selection. Service by Jesswas great and the food was very good. We'll probably visit again in the near future."

  • "My date and I had a great time at the restaurant because we felt comfortable and the food came out rather quickly. Only one resteraunt week menu was available and every course were very small appetizer like meals. I was still hungry after the "three course meal." The bill came out to be about $200 which made me feel as though I paid to sit in a place to eat appetizers with my date rather than having an excellent dining experience. It was a good experience, but I was expecting something better."

  • "We were very happy with our meal and the excellent service provided. Although my children tend to be picky eaters they enjoyed their meals and ate very well. My wife and I are were very happy with the selection and the services as indicated above. The downstairs space has a very nice ambiance. The pizza's were excellent. I am glad we stumbled upon this restaurant and look forward to our next meal there."

  • "A hidden little gem located on the lower level floor of the Hotel Giraffe although I don't think they are associated. Solid service and food. Delicious pizzas & the homemade ricotta was absolutely fantastic. Service was polite, attentive & knowledgeable. Ambience was romantic, cozy and special. Definitely recommend this place."

  • "We stayed at Hotel Giraffe for our anniversary and we didn't feel like braving the cold for dinner. Fortunately Bread & Tulips is tucked right into the hotel! Down the steps or the Elevator and you're there, never having to set foot outside! Our drinks were strong and waitress attentive. Enjoyed the pasta the most. Everything else was tasty but not memorable. Missing the hotel and our anniversary weekend already..."

  • "I took my 19 year old daughter here for an early dinner before shopping and a show. My husband and I love this restaurant and she did , too. Lots of interesting appetizer options (we had stuffed squid), good pasta and vegetarian choices. The sea bass and broth were out of this world. Very nice service (we felt welcome and comfortable) and pretty ambiance. Modern decor, candles stylish but not stuffy. My daughter said she wants to come back to Bread and Tulips with a date soon. Good date spot! Enjoy!"

  • "The Northern Italian food is inventive and always astonishing. Their chicken liver appetizer with pistachio is the best I've had at any restaurant in the world and I travel a lot. Their pasta dishes are brilliant and their chicken for two which is brined for 24 hours gives a whole new meaning to what poultry can taste like. If you like fish, their Black Sea bass beats most fish served at expensive places like Esca. Their wine list is exceptional and very reasonable and their wine is stored at correct temperature so their is not that usual red wine bitterness you get at many high priced restaurants. I hope this place lasts forever and they keep their same management and chef."

  • "I met a dear old friend for dinner. We wanted someplace that had good food at reasonable prices and a nice atmosphere where we could spend the time we needed to catch up. Bread and Tulips was the right place. The food was very good. The wait staff was helpful and friendly, and respectful of our need to take our time and talk without frequent interruption. We had a lovely evening."

  • "I unfortunately did not have a good experience at Bread & Tulips this time around. There was a large party that was quite loud and it seemed to throw the whole operation off. I had to wait for someone to take my order; then had to get up and walk to the bar to order a glass of wine because I could not get any server's attention for several minutes. When I informed the server that I had been neglected and had gotten my own wine, she said she was sorry but then charged me for a more expensive glass than I had actually ordered. The bread and olives were good; the salad was good; the pasta was not well executed (the dish tasted like tomato paste with pasty pasta). The dessert was good. But the experience was simply not good."
