Diner Reviews
  • "Constantly had to waive down waiter for everything! Water, food order, bread, more water. Was not in a hurry but it took 3 hours to dine. It's possible it was because of restaurant week but it was joke at the table."

  • "I had the omelette entree and the salmon filling was dry. The salad was ordinary and the fries were less well done than I like."

  • "We requested a booth table, but none were available. The manager informed us shortly after we sat down tht a booth would be available in 10 minutes, and offered to move us there. He did, and it made out evening memorable. Food was outstanding as well, with wide selection. Diners at our table had steak and duck, very well prepared."

  • "Too loud to speak across the table. Never going again if I care to hear what my dinner companion says."

  • "After my recent lunch at Brasserie, I realized that quite a few of my last lunch meetings have been there. The food is always excellent, the service is excellent - though not outstanding, but that's nitpicking. It can be quite noisy, but there is enough space between tables that the noise actually serves as a cover. The menu is always interesting (in a good way) and varied - rare tuna steak this time, beef bourguignon the last time and both were excellent - and good enough for foodies, a special occasion, or travelers looking for a Best-of-NY sort of place. You can't miss if you go to Brasserie."

  • "We had breakfast and it was great. A little lonely but maybe because it was 9.30. Frente toast and es benedictine just great."

  • "Brasserie stands the test of time. The food is good with a wide range of choices. Lunch can be especially noisy, dinner a little less so."

  • "Held a business lunch meeting at Brasserie. It was difficult to hear the person across the table at times, but I was already aware of this from previous experiences. The portion was small for the price. Food was pretty good, well-cooked, but salty and rich (so maybe better that the portion was small!)."

  • "The Brasserie is a nice French restaurant minus the white tablecloths and stuffy maitre d. Their restaurant week menu has a wonderful assortment of choices from their full menu and some special choices as well. Everything we ate was rich and delicious! I would definitely return to The Brasserie again."

  • "A pleasant Restaurant , good service , wonderful decor , good wine list but as the recreation of a grand French Brassiere style restaurant's from the 50's this is not. Lucky to find much French cuisine on the menu , hamburgers and lobster club sandwiches are rarely seen on menus in Paris. Nice but well short of the hype on the website."

  • "We selected Brasserie for a Sunday Brunch with friends. Everyone really enjoyed there food, especially the crepes. The brunch set menu is a great value. The restaurant has a modern feel. Service was very smooth. Everyone at our table agreed that we would eat there again."

  • "Have dined at the Brasserie off and on for many years....and always plan a meal there whenever I am in the city. The menu and wine list are always interesting - the food is always beautifully prepared - with great tastes and satisfaction. Great value for the money spent. A favorite!"

  • "We ordered the steamed lobster which is easy to overcook; however, it was perfect and a good size as well. Nikhil was an excellent server who checked on us often as well as the managers did. All of the food we had was excellent, but the lobster was delightful. The design of the restaurant was such as to minimize noise. The tables are not close together and the restaurant is well lighted. We did not sit at the bar, but it appeared to well patronized by regulars. There are booths and tables. If you want a booth, recommend you request it when you make your reservation as they are somewhat limited. The chairs at the tables are comfortable. Food prices are reasonable."

  • "This is THE perfect midtown place for breakfast, brunch or lunch! Service is top-notch, space is beautiful, food is fabulous, coffee is the best in the city, and my out of town friend and I had an opportunity to catch up in a wonderful, warm environment where we could actually hear each other. No one rushed us out. The calm and tranquility in the midst of midtown is a balm to one's NYC soul."

  • "The atmosphere at Brasserie was not at all what we expected, given the name, it looks more like a retro airplane interior than a French bistro. The food was very good, the service was not. We brought our 4 kids, who are willing to try different foods, and they loved the mussels and frites. I would recommend this place to people who want good food in a very loud atmosphere."

  • "You can always get great food and service here, a stand out for years. However on the day we went for a late breakfast, we were completely ignored. The staff seemed perturbed that we had the audacity to arrive after the breakfast rush and actually order breakfast. It won't stop me from coming back; I just will never do it at that time."

  • "We hadn't seen each other for several years so had lots to catch up on...the service was very gentle during the 3 hours we 2 Ladies chatted. No rushing, no hassling, just very pleasant "do you need anything more?" The Chicken Chop-Chop Salad is super delicious--very tasty but light dressing and not chopped to a "mush"."

  • "Have enjoyed this restaurant many times before noise level at lunch unbearable would have left but meeting a client. Food tasted institutional. Not as good as in past"

  • "Went here pre-theatre matinee on Saturday. Service was attentive; food was delicious; overall, a great spot for brunch. Had the beet salad as appetizer and eggs benedict ( with smoked salmon substitute instead of ham). Good spot to meet up with friends for quiet relaxing brunch."

  • "Ambiance was dull, only max 10 guests in resturant. NY sirloin was tasty but over priced. Great waiter."

  • "Brasserie never disappoints. Staff are considerate, knowledgeable, and able to handle food allergies. The Manager is always present and walking around to greet guests. Onion soups is always a treat. Brasserie has become a home for my friends and me in midtown."

  • "The decor and architecture of the restaurant was unusual in that it reminded me of the futuristic space pavilions at Disney. Quite energetic for lunch, but abit loud for a business discussion, although the front of the restaurant may have quiter acoustics. Overall the service and food was very good.."

  • "My party of 5 was pleasantly surprised with this restaurant. All of my contact with the restaurant, prior to my arrival was handled professionally. The staff and waiters were all very friendly and helpful. The food was prepared and presented with expertise."

  • "Once our food arrived, we never saw the waiter or any support staff until we needed the bill. There wasn't even an offer to refill our coffee; even when the food came & our cups were empty. We were happy to pay for more bottles water, only we never had the chance to ask for more. We seemed to be inconviniencing our waiter."

  • "We were there on a Sun. night after theater so the restaurant was not filled when we came in. We had drinks at the bar first and then sat down at our table. The service was excellent. We all ordered something different and every dish was wonderful. Highly recommend the restaurant."

  • "Went on a Sunday night and found very few others. Guess that is normal for Sunday night in the summer in NY. Service was not up to its normal standard. Everything else was great as usual!"

  • "Our dinner was fantastic and the $35 pre fixe can't be beat! I had the fish stew and my colleague had a steak; salads were terrific as was cheese plate."

  • "The fish here is excellent, especially, the grilled fish."

  • "An excellent location for mid-town meetings. Food is generally good, though a French Brasserie that has run out of (plain) croissants is somewhat unusual. The service was lackluster. I do not expect waiters to hover, but dropping by every now and then to see if service is needed (e.g. a coffee fill-up, placing an order, would be nice."

  • "I have lunched and dined at Brasserie many times and was dismayed to see that it was not holding up to its reputation. Food was great but service lacking and incidents abound. Orders were forgotten or misunderstood. All was rather slow, and the place was not even busy, check had incorrect charges.... Once a favorite spot, I would no longer recommend it... Sorry!"

  • "Perhaps the best brunch value EVER. The Brasserie offers a two course $20.00 brunch on weekends. A group of friends and I had the pleasure of their food/service/ambiance this past weekend. The restaurant is located in the historic Seagrams' Bldg on Park Avenue (its "sister" restaurant is the iconic Four Seasons) and has been there for decades. It has been updated with the times and provides a large airy space with generously sized tables (actually it houses two such dining spaces ). I choose a yellow and red beet salad with a generous serving of excellent goat cheese. A freshly baked, warm baguette was the perfect accompaniment. Perfectly prepared eggs Benedict topped off the meal. I had a complimentary bloody Mary - perfect! "

  • "Food was just ok. Fixed price menu is relatively cheap but on the other hand you get what you pay for. Wine list extensive but also expensive. "

  • "This is a great place for dinner for 2 if you get a booth, but I would not return for lunch, especially in a large group. We were a party of 5 and requested the side room, thinking it would be quieter, but we really could not hear one another, the noise level ruins whatever else is good about Brasserie."
