Excellent French cuisine, interesting menu, attentive service, interesting wine list by the bottle or the glass. Reasonable prices. I have been eating here, since the original pre-1996 restaurant; and, have enjoyed the reincarnation, post 2000. Highly recommend The Brasserie.

  • Not the same
    OpenTable Diner Since 2012
    Dined on 9/22/2014
I knew that it had had a major overhaul and didn't look anything like the old brasserie but I feel that was what was missing. I found it too modern, outer-spacey, although the booths were nice. One of the bartenders was relentless about starting a tab at the bar and needing a credit card for it. We didn't have a breath to greet each other, drink a little wine, get settled, and she was on us three times already. Very annoying. Waiter was perfectly fine but seemed to have a bit of an attitude, no sense of humor, definitely in a bad mood - which kind of took away from any pleasurable feeling about the meal/dinner/experience. Maybe it is just too cool a place and we didn't fit the bill for coolness. Or obvious wealth. Something.

  • Girls by the bus station?
    MissQ1VIP
    Dined on 9/16/2014
It still surprises is when women are guided to a bad table--especially when a restaurant is almost empty. I had been guided past open tables to the back of the room next to the bus station. When I asked to be moved to a more appropriate table, the hostess said she had to ask. In a non-pushy way, I started walking toward tables that were open as I was meeting an important client. Along the way there was a 5top table with 2 business men;all but 1 booth empty; and, >dozen better tables open. We were finally seated at a nice table rest was great. The waiter was A1. I can't opine on the food as it's hard to mess up a bowl of fruit and toast. After a few refills, they should offer a fresh coffee cup. In all a great place for business breakfasts.

My discriminating guests were delighted with the ambiance, service and very satisfying brunch they enjoyed at the Brasserie. Happily, it no longer has the over-energetic electronic displays of its past. Therefore, one can enjoy the original design and decor, as well as the service and the food. Highly recommended - for any time of day or evening.

Had a relative visiting and wanted a quiet place where we could enjoy company without being rushed, or having to wait 2 hours for a table. Brasserie to the rescue! We were running late because of traffic, but the hostess was very understanding and accommodating. When we arrived, we were seated promptly. I had previously been here for dinner but this was the first time for brunch. The service was very good, our server was kind and brought us everything we needed (our party included a toddler). The ambiance was refined but casual and our visitor was impressed. As for the food, there wasn't anything that wowed us in particular, but the presentation was very nice and the food was cooked well and kept simple. Overall a good location and value!

THE DISDAIN OF THE SERVER WAS ALMOST PALPABLE. IT WAS NOT THAT BUSY, BUT THREE REQUESTS FOR A NAPKIN! SAT THERE AFTER BEING SERVED, BUT COULD NOT BEGIN THE MEAL AS THERE WAS NO NAPKIN. NO WATER/ICE REFILLS UNTIL I FLAGGED HIM DOWN. ATTITUDE OF THE WAITER WAS IMPERIOUS, UNCONGENIAL; HE COULD HAVE CARED LESS WHICH MADE FOR A VERY UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE. TOO BAD BECAUSE THE MENU SELECTIONS, FOOD AND AMBIANCE ARE VERY NICE.

Shame on you Brasserie. I have been coming to your restaurant for years and have been a dedicated patron. I asked for a quiet table before hand. You put us in the noisiest part of the restaurant. We had to chase our waitress literally five times to get served. She just took our order and never came back. Three different people had to help us during our lunch. Your vegetarian dish was awful........ I am furious at this place. This was an important business lunch for me and it turned out as real disaster. It will be a very looooooooooooooong time before I entertain going back to this place.

The original brasserie was open a 24/7 and when my wife and I worked late we would almost always end up there. The atmosphere, and the menu, were classic French and always executed perfectly. When we found ourselves back in NYC for the US Open we decided to try Brasserie again. It is far from the same restaurant, having undergone a rather modern face lift and the ambiance is less French it is inviting. Steak frites... you have several options. Frissee aux Lardon was wonderful. Fish delicate and flavorful. Wine list is not overwhelming and (for NYC) reasonably priced. While it is far from the Brasserie we enjoyed in the 90's we had a lovely evening and enjoyed Brasserie very much.

Nice art deco design yet modern. Love the look of the floating translucent bathroom sink which flowed into the wall. The food was excellent but the portions where small. Mushroom with the flaky pastry dough was very tasty. So was the grilled Bronzino with string beans special. Lobster ravioli did not have a lot of flavor. Was quiet at the time of the reservation. Depending on the chatty patty next to you could be a hit/miss on the noise level.

Went to four restaurants during restaurant week, and this was by far the best! Staff was warm and welcoming; service was friendly and efficient; food was delicious and reasonably priced. It was our first time for dinner at Brasserie and we tried the NYC Restaurant week menu, which was disappointing. Very small portions (I had the salmon tartare and my husband had the pate, then we ordered the fish and the Chicken aux Morilles which was not served with morilles but with cepes mushrooms), and somewhat flavor less. Not sure based on this first experience that we will come back.

Firstly, we were an hour late to our reservation but after one phone call, they saved our table. But we were seated near a party by the bar so it was very loud. The waiter was attentive and amiable. The main entrees and desserts were the highlight of our dinner. I reccomend this restaurant to young people such as friends because it has a classy yet casual dining feel.

We visit the restaurant at 6:40 PM and found about 30 peoples were drinking at the bar. It's OK but the problem is there is no barrier or wall between the bar and dining space. These peoples are shouting, screaming, and occupying tables around. The waiter couldn't catch our order. We had dinner under extreme noise which is ten times larger than NY subway. When we went out the restaurant, we felt the noisy street so quiet as we were in a forest. It is highly recommended for restaurant goers not to have dinner if you find guests in the bar.

This is a beautiful restaurant. I enjoyed my experience, and the food was good. But not all of it was terrific. Our appetizers, the duck liver pate and the salmon tartare, were a bit underwhelming. The main courses, grilled sea bass and roasted duck breast, were both excellent. The desserts were good, peach tart and chocolate mousse, but the pastry/cake parts were dry. Overall good, but not quite good enough to be great.

Must say I was a bit disappointed. The venue is hip and and modern, but the gravlax starter was ok (not great) and the fish (sea bass) entree was thin, dry, and absolutely needed the corn coulis for flavor. Tart dessert was so-so. Sorry to report my visit was not outstanding...

I don't get why this restaurant isn't busier more of the time. Great food with fresh, high-quality ingredients; accommodates carnivores, fishivores, and herbivores alike; servers can't do enough for you (well, most of the servers anyway); comfortable, classy and non-intimidating room. No, it is not buzzing with East Side fashonistas being served finicky cocktails by fatally bored 22-year-olds in a dark four-inch wide corridor, but there are plenty of places you can go for that. And yes, the block it's on is in a bit of a corporate gulch, but it's still not that far away from anywhere. So I am a huge fan, and as for those who shy away from it because of the aforementioned factors, your loss!
