Brasserie MontmartreCute, cute, cuteI used to love Brasserie Montmartre years ago, but it's MUCH better now. Better floor plan, better menu, no more ridiculous magician wandering around throwing playing cards on the ceiling and taking people's watches off their wrists. Reminds me very much of a little bistro across from the Ile de la Cite in Paris that I love. Parking is tough but otherwise it's great.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful Sunday EveningMy fiancé had a wonderful time here. We had a few yummy cocktails, some appetizers, and the steak frittes. The steak and fries were over salted which was our only complaint about this place.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMA taste of France in PortlandWe enjoyed our final day of family vacation with our adult children at this wonderful restaurant. Last summer we vacationed in France, so it was fun to end this vacation with a taste of France. The food was delicious, the pacing excellent (but the server knew we we okay we a slow, French dining experience, and would have turned our table quickly if we had wished), and the live jazz great. Well done, Brasserie Montmartre.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ExperienceMy wife and I dined at BM prior to a show at the Schnitz....we found the entire experience to be wonderful...the service was excellent, the menu diverse and the meals perfectly prepared...we especially enjoyed the house- made rabbitand pistachio terrine and the other charcuterie and our entrees were amazing too......the wine recommendations were spot-on......a great place to to dine!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMfirst time to this restaurantI think the June dining program is MUCH more popular than in the past! We often eat out, but hadn't tried Brasserie Montmarte before, so went last Fri. The building interior is beautiful! The hostess AND our server were great as was the food! The special was included on the menu which was different than last yr. when we went to another place where we had to ASK for the special menu and felt like second class citizens for wanting to try it! Our server here said the June dining out special had been VERY popular and it seemed that most of the people around us were also dining out there due to that offer because everyone got the same strawberry shortcake dessert at the end!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful FindWe had the fixed price, three course meal that was advertised for Dining in Portland month. We were seated at a table next to the deconstructed brick wall that is covered in candles, I felt like I could be in France. We both selected the green salad as our starter and loved the light, flavorful dressing. My husband had the steak frite as his entree. The steak was slightly overcooked, but still delicious. I had the chicken entre which was perfectly prepared and served on a bed of roasted potatoes and vegetables. We added a side of sauted spinach which was delicious. Our dessert was a fabulous, decadent strawberry shortcake. We were so pleased with the dinner, we made reservations for the Wine tasting dinner being held next week.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMClassic and classyMy BFF had never been here and it had been probably 20 years since I had so the dining month special was just the excuse I needed to book a girls night out...we were treated wonderfully and had a great time catching up! The ambience was classy, live music playing but we could still chat without having to yell. The food was perfectly prepared and portioned, just enough and well timed. Going back and taking my husband soon!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMAn enchanted eveningWe celebrated our Anniversary on a Tuesday night and found it quiet and romantic. Our table was right next to "the wall" which had been deconstructed by would-be robbers, and it was beautiful! It had candles all tucked into the open brick work which added to the romantic vibe.
Food was incredible and nicely prepared. Our waitress was attentive and sweet. Thank you for a perfect evening!6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMA Quiet SundayMy wife and I took our duaghter to the Brasserie. I had the fixed price chicken with green and strawberry short cake -- perfect mix. My duaghter had the fixed price green, steak and strawberry short cake. She also enjoyed hers. My wife had the potato gnocci in tomato sauce, then the clocolate/hazelnut cake. She really liked the cake. Emily was really cool and brought us some fava beans because my wife really likes them. We have a carage of the house cab. Opps, almost forgot, we started everything off with the truffle fries - which are always a refreshing different taste for your taste buds. Enjoy!!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMalmost perfectwe wanted a not-fancy but comfy and pleasant dining experience for our 40th anniversary, and we had a great evening, with great service and food at the Brasserie. The special eggplant soup was awesome and the steak frites was perfect. We appreciated the list of by the glass wines that included some good northwest reds. The strawberry shortcake was less than perfect (berries weren't mid-season tasty and the balsamic-based drizzle did not compliment the berries and cake at all) but the attempt was appreciated, though the creme brulee would have satisfied more. We enjoy the atmosphere - good food but not fussy - and the friendly and attentive host and wait staff. We will be back.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely Dining ExperienceMy husband and I dined outside, which is my favorite kind of dining experience. The food was delicious, and I felt there were lots of choices to suit everyone. Our server was very friendly, and very efficient. We will return!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst visitWe made a dinner of four "to share" selections, which were all delicious and were plenty to eat for the two of us. One disappointment was that our first two wine selections from the wine list were not available. However, the substitute we chose was fine.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMCelebrated husband's 60thCelebrated husband's 60th Bday here.
There were 5 of us and each of us decided to take advantage of the $29. special option.
Food was very good--the steak was done perfectly and the portion size was adequate
The pomme frites were excellent!
And the lavender creme brûlée was outstanding.
We decided this was a place to which we will return!!5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMSimply good foodThe food was very nice, though I wouldn't say it's "for foodies." It's not sophisticated, but it's good. The service people were great. The noise was a bit overwhelming. The asparagus soup was great. Etc.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were a group of eight. We were a group of eight. It is super that the Brasserie takes reservations as it is very difficult to find a place for a large group to eat in Portland. At first the service was rushed - we we just saying hellos to each other when we were approached for our drink orders. But after a few rejections the servers matched our pace and the rest of the evening was perfect. The wine list is not extensive or impressive which surprised me for a french restaurant. The food was very good, particularly all of the fish dishes had by members of the party. It is on the spendy side.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMBrasserie MonmartreMy family was there for a combined birthday and mothers day celebration. The food was wonderful, especially the lamb, and our waitstaff was attentive without being overwhelming. It can get a bit loud at times, but not overwhelmingly so. I don't feel it is a problem as long as you are aware of it.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThe french onion soup wasThe french onion soup was bland with barely any cheese on top. The salmon and the pomme fritts with black truffle oil was delicious. Service was also excellent. Will definitely give it another try at a latter date.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat service and extra touchesGreat service and extra touches with the complementary puree of golden bell pepper soup samples (with "eggplant caviar"--not real caviar but a vegan alternative) and delicious tiny chocolate cupcakes for Mothers' Day. Prime rib was delicious and cooked just right. Nice portions, fair price.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA Great Mothers DayBrunch was great with all the food to choose from and service was very good. My wife loved her mothers day brunch. We will definitely come back for brunch and would like to try lunch and dinner in the near future. This was a relaxed feeling and enjoyed it with our friends which felt the same as we did.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOh the Truffle Fries! This place had a wonderful history and ambience. The food was excellent. The truffle fries are beyond amazing and the meatballs with potato gratin was divine. The meatballs had a hearty jus and a nice crust on them. I would go back again and again if I lived in Portland!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMServer was outstanding...Our server was outstanding.. he saved the evening... not the same after re-opening... went for the Rack of lamb....didn't have anymore almost left.... but our server was very knowledgeable and suggested the best apps and entrees...5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMNew Meaning to Slow FoodThis was my second trip to the cafe. The food was excellent but we had to wait for for 20 minutes before the waiter came to our table and brought water and then we had to wait for him to come back for our order and then the order took so long I despaired of getting back in time. Altogether we got there right at 11:30 and left at 12:45. That was hamburgers and fries for 3 people. The best and most delicious hamburger and fries in the world, hence our willingness to wait. The other thing was that the ice tea for my co worker came with about 3 pieces of ice. That's not really iced tea. Plus -- why no munchies if they are going to make you wait so long?? Just a suggestion. We will keep coming back, but only if we have the time to spare4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent French BistroGreat restaurant in a great central location. Excellent menu choices, Jonathan (seemed like the manager) gave great descriptions of several of the hors d'oeuvres and entrees. Real cooking, real food!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was excellent and serviceFood was excellent and service attentive; perhaps a bit overly attentive! The waiter really seemed to want to chat. Really the only downside to the evening was the band---they were too loud which made conversation difficult even at the back of the restaurant, farthest away from them.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMReally good food, great cocktails,Really good food, great cocktails, a relaxed setting, and the musicians they have is always top notch.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMI was an early brunch attender,I was an early brunch attender, so the quiet atmosphere may have been a result of that.
I enjoyed the food. Nicely prepared.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were only staying one nightWe were only staying one night in Portland, and wanted to find a spot for dinner. We love bistro food and found this gem! Fantastic mussels and the meatballs were a wonderful surprise! Good wine list, too.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful eveningWe had a wonderful evening and were very impressed by the staff. They had music playing at the front so asked if we'd prefer to sit in the back for a quieter dining experience. We could still enjoy the energy and festiveness of the place, even from the back of the restaurant. I felt that we got good value and the food was delicious.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMEaster BrunchWe were pleasantly surprised and quite happy with our last minute Easter Brunch choice. All of the items were quite tasty, the servers were friendly and the atmosphere was nice. Only negative comment is that all the food counters were too high for my kids to see, and they're a little too big to carry about and try to hold a plate.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMI love this restaurant anytime,I love this restaurant anytime, but the Easter Brunch has become a tradition. Great variety of yummy foods to choose from at an affordable price point. Staff always pleasant and attentive.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything we ate was fiveEverything we ate was five star!
Eggs Benedict
Ham
Chive biscuits & tasso (sausage) gravy
Deviled eggs
Cauliflower gratin
Bacon - I think "in house" cured. Best in Portland!!!!! crispy or not so crispy so you could choose what you like)
A lemon dessert tasted as if it came from Paris. Mini-cupcakes good & a great idea.
Mimosa's very good. (not cheap champagne & OJ.)
PLUS there were all the usual brunch items
Service - Ariel was wonderful. Bill, the manager was professional, cheerful & worked so hard!!!
Perfect that they opened at 9!!!!!!!!!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMOur first time to this restaurantOur first time to this restaurant and we are already planning to come back, especially for our upcoming anniversary celebration. Brunch was wonderful and looking forward to experiencing the night life and jazz!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMThe service was, and alwaysThe service was, and always is, excellent. Our server was one of the cutest girls I have ever met. I ordered the halibut, and it was a little overcooked. But, overall the experience was good and I'll always come back.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThis place is really great! We've been to dinner here a few times and also for brunch and its been great each time.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMIn the eyes on a 2-year old...I went there on a Monday evening, with my parents and Illa & Papu, my grand-parents, to celebrate Papu's B-day... The staff was super nice to me (I'm a charming 2-year old little girl), I loved my pasta with real parmesan cheese (simply delicious). I had a great time exploring every corner of the restaurant, I think we all had a fantastic evening... and the chocolate cake is simply superbe, although Dad only gave me a little bit as when the desert arrived, it was almost time for me to go to bed!3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMEvery step of the eveningEvery step of the evening at Brasserie Montmartre was perfect, starting with the warm welcome, the nicely reserved table and the friendly waitperson. Every need was accommodated and the food choices allowed the vegetarians to enjoy something special too. The prix fixe menu may be too much for older people but for anyone else it is a great value. The carrot ginger soup was dreamy and the Idaho trout cooked to perfection. Our only regret was that we had to rush away to the Symphony.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food and Service, Always! We frequent the Brasserie Montmartre for dinner often...the food and service is consistently good and we love the upbeat, but not distracting, ambiance! Have additionally caught happy hour, which has a great menu.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a great time and theAlways a great time and the service is perfect as usual!3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAs long as Larry Calame isAs long as Larry Calame is on piano, I'll be there every Tuesday.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMNice place for a special nightI'm not big on French food but this was quite nice. The staff was super accommodating,I had reservations for 5 and we had to change it several times and had people show up late. They didn't even blink an eye, they made us feel very welcome. Food was very well prepared and the vibe was very nice. If you like french food and want to drop some $$ on a special night this is the place3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMLight meal was just rightMy wife and I stopped in for a light meal after 8PM. She had the soup and a salad. I had the duck salad. We started off with the truffle fries. She had a baileys and coffee - which she mentioned was very good -- better than she was expecting. I had their $5 beer sampler of 3 of my picks. Mr Reese at the bar helped pick 3 darks. The one from Burnside was good so had a pint. In all it was a quiet evening with good food.1/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
