  • "Brasserie Montmartre was a great choice for a prom dinner! My date and I enjoyed the delicious Macaroni & Cheese and Pommes Frites appetizers, a perfect way to start of the meal. Then we shared the Trout, and it was super tender! Wish we could have stayed for dessert, definitely will be coming here again :)"

  • "This was such a beautiful spot to celebrate my fiancé and I's engagement day! We did a 'mutual engagement' where we both proposed to each other. We connected through the French culture and I found this restaurant for lunch hoping that it would be a good spot for me to propose to him. The waiters were amazing and supportive. My friends decorated our lunch table prior to and the owners/waiters were very accommodating. I recommend this for any romantic date time."

  • "We walked in at the end of Happy Hour and the noise level was deafening in the bar, but seated at the end of the restaurant the noise was not bad. Very creative food preparation. The night's starter from the chef was a cauliflower soup with pickled rhubarb, absolutely amazing. We started with an asparagus salad which was perfectly dressed. The pork cheeks were fork tender and deliciously rich. The day boat scallops were seared just right. Our wine choice was a bit too sweet for the scallops, but did cut the richness of the pork cheeks nicely. The staff was very helpful and friendly. It was a very enjoyable evening."

  • "I wanted a light dinner, so only ordered vegetable side-dishes: Beet salad, Asparagus and Spinach. The vegetables were cooked perfectly -- not too much or too little. Lightly seasoned to enhance the wonderful flavors of spring. Others in my party enjoyed their more-substantial entrees. We all agreed that if a restaurant knows how to cook vegetables with love, they are likely to cook everything well."

  • "It was our first time at the Brasserie, and we were a party of 10 celebrating a birthday. I picked the restaurant because it had something for everyone, as we had a couple foodies as well as a couple very unadventurous meat & potatoes men. With the exception of one guest, everyone loved their meals. Our waitress was great. Our cocktails were different and delicious! I will definitely be going back here. My girlfriends and I walked around viewing the art work on the walls, and absolutely loved it. It really captures the essence of Montmartre, one of the best artist havens in the world."

  • "And sometimes that's a good thing. I've been going to the Brasserie for 25 years or so and it's still essentially the same fun, low-key place it's always been. The remodel added some bar space, you can't draw on paper tablecloths anymore, and it's no longer "the place with cards on the ceiling", so maybe it's grown up a bit but not in a snooty adults-only kind of way. We took our teenager and his girlfriend with us recently and everyone had a good time. It's not a serious French restaurant so don't be intimidated by words you can't pronounce. The servers are friendly and helpful and no one will care. The food is good but not fantastic, but it was always an ambiance place anyway."

  • "The food was quite yummy, but our server was less than attentive. We participated in dining month, which meant we ordered everything at once. At least a half an hour after finishing our meal, our server came by and asked if we wanted dessert. We reminded her of our order, and about 10 minutes later our dessert came. She didn't seem interested in helping us; not realizing our drinks were low, and only refilling our water after our asking. We ended up at the restaurant for two hours because of her inattentiveness and we were disappointed in the overall experience. I'm not sure we will return."

  • "The food was so over-salted that it could have never been touched by a chef let alone tasted by a cook. It was more likely a boil-in-bag convenience used by an owner focused on profits rather than profiteroles. BTW, the desserts were so stale that the sauces covering them literally disappeared before your eyes. Admittedly, the service personnel were thoughtful but clearly aware of the kitchen's shortcomings. We witnessed our server return two other diner's entrees without question and more than one diner choosing not to finish their meal."

Fresh baked breads & pastries were a rare treat, & I'm not a big bread person. All of our main items were well prepared & presented, & they tasted great. The service was quick, efficient & thoughtful. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal & would absolutely go back."

  • "I was part of a group of four in town only for the night. We asked the concierge at the hotel for a rundown of the restaurants near the hotel participating in the Portland Restaurant Month promotion and this restaurant came up. We decided to pick it as it was fairly close and easy to find. We were thrilled with the choice! The service was nice, the restaurant had great ambiance and the food was solid. We even enjoyed the live band playing throughout the evening! All four of us took advantage of the 3 course restaurant month special, two had trout, two had the steak frites. All were very happy and enjoyed the meal. We couldn't' have been happier with our dinner!"

  • "Nice place. My food was so so.. the Beef Bourgeon was more like pot roast or beef stew. When it arrived it had one piece of thinly sliced beef. Returned it and opted for the steak it arrived cool and not cooked to the temperature I requested. On the up side... my friend loved their trout and the mushroom soup was excellent. Also, the staff was great and compensated me for the meal experience."

  • "Fabulous find down the street from my husbands office, I took the train in and he met me after work. A three course prix fixe menu was available with fantastic choices. (in my experience that usually isn't the case). The food was hot and tasty. Complementary house made rolls and croquettes were authentic! Drinks were perfect with a request for goat cheese stuffed olives GRANTED!"

  • "My spouse and I had a most wonderful time. We enjoyed the entree's, the small sample of soup to begin, the desserts were divine. The cakes were much better than any creme brulee'. Our entrees were flavorful and delicious: the trout was sublime, and the pasta w/black trumpet mushrooms was good. We could have liked to have really seen the mushrooms, but they had been diced too finely. When hearing that I considered myself a cheese freak, our waiter brought me a sample of two of their cheeses a brie and a sharp bleu, of which they featured at least a dozen. I mentioned that the five cheese plate and a glass of zinfandel, and I would have been in "fat city"."

  • "The ambience at Brasserie Montmartre transported me back to my favorite neighborhood brasseries in Paris. The menu featured a variety of country french food selections.. Our party sampled the beef bourguignon, the steak frite, and the trout and we all loved our entrees. The creme brulee was one of the best I've had in years and I would go back just for that. The service was impeccable. Brasserie Montmartre deserves to take its place again as one of Portland's highlights."

  • "Live music was much too loud for a dinner setting. It felt like I was in a Concert Arena (where loud is appropriate) rather than relaxing and pleasant in the background. It was impossible to listen and hear anyone speak at our table. I love the idea of live music and the musicians were talented, but the restaurant staff must before in tune to the impact on dining experience when the volume is way too loud."

  • "The main reason I enjoyed this restaurant was the fact that even though we didn't know a lot of stuff on the menu the server was more than happy to assist in helping us understand some of the items we don't typically see on menus at lower end restaurants or fast food places. The food was super tasty and the wine was superb and overall the atmosphere and the setting just made it all the more better. I totally recommend this for anyone wanting to have a romantic evening out away from the kids or to just get away from it all for a couple of hours."

  • "While we had never dined there prior, its reputation proceeded the reservation. And they lived up to it in every way! Our server (Chris) was friendly, knowledgeable, and didn't rush us (I love when you can truly enjoy the experience without feeling kicked out). The food was classic with modern touches, and do yourself a great favor order the french onion soup. It was so good we skipped out on our show at the Schnitz (sorry, Amos Lee) just to finish our ports and conversation. A true Portland gem that could stand up to the likes of Chicago's Tru or New York's Le Bernardin, at half the cost!!! We will return."

For example, we split a salad, appetizer cheese plate, each had the Gnocchi entree( $25), each had two drinks, each had a dessert; bill for two came to $125."
