Diner Reviews
  • "Love it. As a Belgian, it's hard to find a good Belgian restaurant."

  • "really great food, and super cute spot., lots of Belgian beers, great moules frites, big salads, very fair price. strongly suggest it"

  • "Lunch at Magritte has become a family favorite. Great menu with Belgian theme, ambience enlivened by Magritte-themed art work--even the light fixtures [look for the bowlers], cheerful and efficient service. I like the TVs for keeping up with the World Cup and they are not obtrusive. Hope to return soon."

  • "Love this place for saturday/sunday brunch. Awesome service and a delicious menu to match. The bottomless beer/cocktails dont hurt either. Would HIGHLY recommend"

  • "The restaurant is true to its word: It is very Belgian. Belgian beer is featured and a good selection. Service is friendly and efficient. It is noisy and a booth is recommended. Even then, it maybe difficult to hear those across the table. The menu choice is good and varied. Most every taste can be satisfied. We have visited a number of times and it is consistently good, if pricey."

  • "Delicious food, everything is made with beer! Brunch is incredible. When they say your glass is never empty, they mean it! Service is impeccable and we always have a wonderful time. "

  • "We love going to Brasserie Magritte - usually the service is impeccable, on Sunday, May 25, not so much. We were a table of four - they only took our drink orders once (never came to see if we wanted refills on the 'unlimited' drinks). They charged for coffee, even though one of the patrons didn't drink - they didn't come to refill our waters, etc. This was my first blah dining experience at Brasserie Magritte. The restaurant wasn't busy so for them to not be attentive was disappointing. We gave less than a 20% tip because the experience should have been better than it was. "

  • "Second time there and enjoyed just as much. We celebrated a birthday dinner and then a lunch with out of town visitor. "

  • "They proudly serve 120 different beers. Pick a food, and the waiter has a recommended beer for that item based on your taste in beer. The recommendations for the appetizer (house ale) and the beef stew (Trappist beer) were right on. "

  • "It was a lovely meal with fabulous food. The range of appetizers, entree and desserts were fabulous. Every dish was a gem. Great background music too. A perfect neighborhood restaurant that makes one feel they eating in Belgium."

  • "My family enjoyed a festive Mother's Day dinner. This restaurant has a lot of personality with its staff and decor. We loved trying new Belgian beers and dishes covering beef, chicken and seafood. We liked their dessert choices as well. From where we were sitting, we could see people at the bar having a good time hanging out or having dinner. "

  • "Magritte is the perfect neighborhood haunt for burgers, salads and a taste of Belgium. The staff is friendly, the salads are divine (especially the seared tuna salad!), and the setting is warm and comfortable. "

  • "Went here for an early dinner. Place was packed despite torrential downpour. Seated in booth near bar -- the crush and din of people if you looked to the side was disconcerting - best to just focus on one's fellow tablemates. Phenomenal beer selection and mussels/bouillabaisse and fries just right for a cold rainy night. Dipping choices for frites = mayo vs curried ketchup -- unable to oblige request for sharp mustard. One complaint - didn't mention the hefty price of the bouillabaisse special (since all mussel dishes were $18, it was a little surprising that the spiritually-related bouillabaisse was priced at an unannounced $32 - I think when a special is priced that differently than other menu items, you need to inform customers)."

  • "The food was tasty--service was poor--don't think you should wait 1/2 hour for salad and appetizer. I find it outrageous that we were charged for bread--waitress should have informed us that there is a charge and we certainly should not have been charged when we waited so long for first course. Brussel sprouts were hardly cooked and when the waitress was told she made no effort to fix it--would have sent it back if we did not have a guest."

  • "Went with a group of friends the other night. It was a second time for most of us. The food took a very long time to come out and after an hr we asked for some bread. We were told the kitchen was over loaded but would get our meal soon. We were given some stale bread in the meantime. Eventually our food came out except for 2 entrees. When they came one was not as ordered and one wasn't even close to what was ordered. When the bill came we were charged for everything, even the bread! We asked to speak to the manager who argued with us! After much back and forth the manager reluctantly took off the incorrect items. Had he just apologized we would have chalked it up to a bad night but he was rude and dismissive, we won't be returning!"

  • "Magritte is the best place for brunch, and the eggs benedict are one of the reasons I keep returning again and again to this little gem of a restaurant on 3rd Avenue. The food is imaginative, colorful and delicious, Belgian-inspired, and the ambience of the place is equally as charming and inspired as well. "

  • "One realizes why Belgian fare has not swept the world after eating here. It's basically peasant food , no matter how you dress it up: stews, boulliabaise, chicken, etc all served with thick fries and beer. One might describe the food as "clunky". It was prepared without much flair or interesting flavor. Chicken was tough and unseasoned, boulliabaise was a pile of small mussels and a few scallops and shrimp steamed excessively with potatoes in a fish broth that was largely flavorless, stew was likewise-potatoes and some meat in a dull presentation, similarly the hunters pie. The restaurant has a large variety of interesting artisanal beers, many more expensive than the bottles of wine. For the food quality, this one is overpriced."

  • "Delightful lunch at Magritte. Love the decor: reproductions of Magritte surrealistic and humorous paintings. Belgian-inspired menu, warm atmosphere, obviously a neighborhood favorite. Now one of ours, also!"

  • "Awesome little Magritte themed restaurant with sky painted ceilings and quirky hat lamps. The music was lively and the brunch was delightful. They served warm croissants or brioche buns with our entree and kept the mimosas, bloody mary's, wine, and beer flowing as long as our plates were on the table. Our waiter was very pleasant and did not skimp on extra baked goods. I will definitely be coming back to sample their extensive beer selection and to try their Belgian waffles!"

  • "The food was excellent and the atmosphere was wonderful. The food was slow in getting to us (3 hours total for drinks, apps, dinner, and dessert). The server was gracious and knowledgeable. The wine list is minimal, but they have a wide selection of craft beers and a full bar. Despite the slowness, we weren't in a rush and I would go back if I'm in this part of town."

  • "My mom and I went to brasserie magritte on Monday night. The atmosphere is warm, cozy, and inviting. The wait staff could not have been more attentive. Even though it was our waiter's first week, and it was obvious he was nervous, he did an outstanding job. I cannot remember the last time I was treated with such respect! The food is superb. I personally do not know much about Beglian fare, but it was beyond delicious. I had tender, moist roast chicken served with crispy french fries and a side salad. My mom had the braised lapin (rabbit) - which was equally as good. I am a personal lover of contemporary art, so the fact that this restaurant is covered with Magritte's surrealist paintings simply adds to the charm. I will be back :)"

  • "Dined here with a group of friend and we all enjoyed. The portions are large and very filling but very tasty and go well with the many varieties of Belgian beer available both draft and in bottles. Fun spot!"

  • "wished the mussels were cooked better, the random raw one was kind of unexpected and not tasty. the owner could have come by and said hello. otherwise, it was a pleasant experience, nothing to write home about."

  • "This was my 4th or 5th time here for dinner and every time has been great...with friends, adult children and most recently with my husband. Waiters who are personable and fantastic food. Magritte is relatively new to the neighborhood in the middle of a nondescript block and it has clearly caught on with Saturday evening's dinner crowded and lively. On the drink side they specialize in beer which is different and fun. I had roast chicken w/ Belgian fries and my husband had the salmon w/ pesto pasta, we ordered brussel sprouts as a side, all perfectly prepared. Feel lucky they are in the neighborhood."

  • "This has become a favorite neighborhood spot for terrific food, friendly service, in a comfortable setting. The food, accent Belgian, is interesting well prepared and served by a helpful courteous staff. This was one of multiple visits and there will be many more. Cot is reasonable. Value is certainly there."

  • "Mixed experience at Brasserie Magritte. Lovely ambiance and most attentive waitstaff. Duck was outstanding. Shrimp croquettes were less than mediocre with minimal shrimp evidence. Berry tart was cloyingly sweet. Mocha latte had thick chocolate syrup not blended with coffee. An expensive meal with only one excellent course needs immediate attention."

  • "This neighborhood spot is lively, cheerful and welcoming. The food Belgian and French lives up to expectations. Generous portions of well prepared mussels always satisfy. Carbonnade Flammande just the thing on a wintry evening. This is a restaurant with a generous heart."
