New brasserie on the way to Stratton! Onion soup was great, my steak wasn't - but I think that was a product of my sauce selection rather than there being anything wrong with the steak. Will repeat. Bon appetit.

This was our 3rd visit to Brasserie l'Ousteau. As the first two, this was a fantastic experience all the way around. The food, desserts, ambiance come together to remind me of a traditional French brasserie, with an American "twist". Don't miss it if you are visiting the area.

Formerly Laney's, famous in Manchester for ribs, this restaurant has gone through a transformation with its new ownership. The redecoration has made this a charming French Brasserie with excellent food and service. This was my third time and this new incarnation and each time has been excellent. It is a welcome addition to the Manchester, VT dining scene.

They have done a wonderful job transforming the old Laneys to a nice looking place. Service was good, but they almost tried too hard and in removing the plates they piled them ... Presentation was ok, could have been more colorful, & creative especially in the summer season when so much color is available. Would be nice to included vegetables instead of having to order a la carte as more upscale establishments have taken to doing. Salad was very small . Little starters from the chef were very nice touch. Wish them much success, we will try again in a month.

Place has potential, but it did not live up to our expectations. Very average bistro food (dry chicken, soggy fries). Very pretty place. Our server was very poor and seemingly inexperienced. Since we were vacationing in the area, it is doubtful we will ever go back, but after reading all the reviews here and on Trip Advisor, we were hoping for something better.

This is a fantastic throw-back French restaurant. Excellent food - OUTSTANDING bread. The service was, perhaps, a little oversolicitous, but very nice. The Duck L'orange (yes, duck l'orange) was delicious - crispy skin with a great sauce. The duck-fat fried potatoes also didn't hurt!

Brasserie l'Oustau is a wonderful dining destination in south/central Vermont. The interior is cozily elegant, the food authentic French Brasserie and delicious. Because I was there on a Saturday evening, I was able to enjoy the special - bouillabaise, flavorful and full of perfectly cooked seafood. Everyone at my table enjoyed their dinners immensely. The waitstaff were friendly and professional, monitoring our table without being intrusive. The bar is A+, too. There is a firepit available outside which I understand will soon be surrounded by a lovely terrace for al fresco dining in warm weather. Plenty of on-site parking, too. My friends in the area have become regulars, dining there at least once a week. I only wish I lived closer

A great evening. We had wonderful vegeable soup; and the beef bourguignon (special for Friday nights) was superb. Our lemon tart was divine...not too sweet and just the right about of tartness. The wine we had was from Chianti (I know, why didn't we pick a French wine)..but we love Chianti and the selectionn on the "wine by glass" list was perfect. We are delighted that now we have a great French restaruant in Manchester, Vermont. We'll return often.

The Pomme Frites were not worth the $7 price and overall the meal was overpriced compared to similar restaurants in the area. Both entrees were very good but I'm not sure they were worth the $91 meal (2 entrees, 1 french fry, 1 glass wine and tip).

  • Overall, we found the food
    OpenTable Diner Since 2010
    Dined on 3/18/2012
Overall, we found the food very good and the portions what you expect from a good French restaurant--just right. I so prefer a very good meal that is just the right size rather than a good meal that is enormous. The timing seemed a little off--an amuse bouche came nearly 10 minutes after we'd ordered our meal. And it wasn't particularly interesting. But the crusty bread, the salmon and the steak frites were all very good with wonderful sauces!! And the pot de creme was a very tasty dessert. We would definitely go again if we're in the neighborhood.

We drove by and saw that new place as we headed up to Stratton and then saw it on Open Table so we decided to check it out. We had an excellent time overall. The owner Michel (Spelling?) greeted us when we arrived and made an great suggestion from the wine list. We had an incredible Vermont Cheese selection plate to start and then had the Roasted Chicken and Steak Frites for dinner. We will be back!

Great addition to the Mnachester area. Finally had the opprotunity to dine at this new establishment and pleasant suprise. A true fine dining experience of which there is a dearth in the area (with a small few notable exceptions). Suprisingly reasonable prices, though I fear as they get better established in the area, their prices will increase. Highly recommended.

Lovely renovation, attentive staff (maybe too much so?), and the food was excellent. Considering this restaurant has only been open for 2 months, they seem to have everything well in hand. Only down side - some of the tables were a little too close together - this restaurant is not tiny - no need to cram people in. Still, I will return.

My husband and I had differing opions on this restaurant. I enjoyed the duck selection, it was done nicely and the rice dish with mushrooms and asparagas was very tasty. Ny husband had the chicken dish and he thought it lacked flavor. The service was excellent and the atmosphere lent itself to quiet conversations. The wine menu was limited but we were able to find a good inexpensive bottle of wine. The desserts were outstanding.

Our server, Ilana, was wonderful - especially with our older dad. She also took every opportunity to sell us without overselling and told us of each change and how she found each item she has tried. Food was great. This time, took my parents and sister. The scallops were fantastic (but only 4) and the duck (ashamed to say, 3 of us had the duck) was its usual excellent! LOVED the carrot cake with the honeydew, but preferred the first preparation single layer. The c The amuse bouche was terrific (thank you!). Again, everything plentiful and well prepared. The service was exceptional. The bussers can actually be seen at the head of the dining room with their hand behind their back - ready and watching - professional and impressiv

This was our 2nd time here. My husband is an executive chef and it was directly after Xmas Week (you know!). He was drop dead exhausted & wanted to go out. We would never go to a new restaurant w/o having given them a few weeks to get their bearings, but... It was only their 2nd day, & service was clueless, but pleasant & efficient. My duck was crispy!! My husband had the steak anglaise (hanger steak) - also terrific. Tuna tartare was great and the octopus was so so. The dessert (donuts in cider soup) was somewhat 1 dimensional, but they brought a POT of coffee along with 2 cups of coffee! A true bistro with very good food, great portions and great prices. 2nd time, the service was terrific. Pork cooked perfect, but not brined?
