  • "A wonderful dining experience in the foothills of the Green Mountains. We had a terrific dinner on Sunday evening. The skiers had gone and the place was quiet and relaxing (although the chairs are quite small for a Big Mike). The Escargot Bourguignon was excellent as was the Short Rib Boeuf Bourguignon. What would take this restaurant to another level would be a dessert soufflé. We will be back."

  • "This restaurant almost lives up to its promise. My steak frites was nicely cooked and served with delicious fries. However, the house salad was a disappointment: it came straight from the fridge, which meant that what I think were nicely steamed asparagus on top had almost no taste and the dressing was so spare as to give no flavor at all. My companion's steak tartare had suffered the same fate in the fridge and while nicely seasoned, was not sufficiently mixed, so some parts were bland and others very spicy. At this price point in VT, things should be more consistent."

  • "The sauce with the grilled salmon and fennel was out if this world, the filet mignon was tender and flavorful and the bulliabase stole the show - fresh, flavorful, perfect. The cloudless chocolate cake was a little dry but that the only possible fault. Definitely worth going!"

  • "Our experience was great. They were equally nice to the adults and the children. They often checked to make sure each course was enjoyable. The cod enter was light and delicious. The profiteroles were outstanding (freshly made). Frisée salad was ok ( underdressed and eggs cooked a bit too much). Overall experience was great and we will definitely be going back!"

  • "Food was pricey and bland. Technique and flavors were off. Not worth the money. We had the truffle stuffed quail and venison. The quail was a mess of food and tasteless. Venison was really dry outside."

  • "The Kronenbourg draft beer was a very tasty surprise and the Bouillabasse was amazing. Everything we ordered was thoughtfully and thoroughly prepared, there were no rough edges, or hard transitions.... just a smooth and polished taste. We'll be back for sure. Skip the hoers d'oeuvres to leave room for dessert."

  • "In the areas of New England where population is not concentrated, restaurants tend to be okay or even good. The Brasserie L'Oustau de Provence is not the norm. The fare is excellent and there is enough variety to add excitement to the dining experience. The Rhode Island oysters were sweet, delicate and best of all fresh. The Mediterranean Sea Bass was cooked to perfection--flakey and moist. Served whole produces a wonderfully flavorful fish. The Venison, served truly medium rare, was an absolute delight. The bar menu is more than adequate to meet most tastes. I drink whisky straight and thus am always aware of the "pour size". Here they do not disappoint. The cordial atmosphere, open kitchen and first class service are noteworthy."

  • "Maybe a change in chefs ? But we all remember the food being better last ski season. Beet salad was so tiny , it was a joke . Some salads were normal size French serving but the beet was a one bite dea for $$l ! My salmon was very good , but last year they had a leek salmon that was better. Short ribs fell short of flavor. Pot de crème use to be heavenly, this time just ok. We were a party of 8, 3 people were happy with their meal, at these prices I expected a little more. Service was great, and owner was very nice. Clean and neat rest room, Coat check , nice for Vermont ! For Vermont it was nice but it has NY prices."

  • "There are areas of the restaurant that are quite intimate. Our service was excellent and our food was surprisingly terrific. We had a bouillabaisse that was one of the best we have eaten. It had perfectly cooked seafood in it including Bronzino and Lobster. The broth was a tomato fennel nicely done. I also had a salad of fromage blanc, beets and pistachio nuts drizzled with chestnut honey. The French owner who is lovely to talk to was on top of everything but also stressed out by the large unruly group of children and oblivious parents sitting near us. I don't blame him.My suggestion would be that he put all the larger parties in the room we were sitting in. He did offer to change our table but we were already too involved in our meal."

  • "All in all this is a great place to dine in Manchester. There were a few minor issues, but on balance this was well worth the visit. The roated chiocken was not as good as it has been. The tarte tatin needs some better caramelizing of the apples and the crust could be thinner and flakier. The kitchen somehow delyaed our order and notmally the slow-down would have been an issue but we were enjoying the company so we overlooked this. On the upaside, ownership is really accomodating and the service is excellent. Atmosphere really nice. Moules friotes were great, as was the mussel soup and cod. All in all very, very good."

  • "We had an excellent meal here two evenings ago. We had to try this relatively new restaurant, as it took the place of a long standing mostly BBQ Laneys. French food depends on sauces, and my Coq au Vin did not disappoint. My daughter had scollops which were also wonderful. We will go back."

  • "The phrase "pleasantly surprised" is an understatement. Not a single plate was a disappointment, and most were just superb. The venison on the game menu was both perfectly cooked and seasoned. The rabbit terrine was about as good as it gets, and my wife was perfectly happy with the "salmon three ways". It is rare to find a restaurant where every dish is composed and prepared so perfectly, without pointless additions of complexity that add nothing. The service was both attentive and precise. The owner's presence was apparent but not overbearing. Even the streetlamps and mica lighting was set at a warm level. I'd expected a bit more from the interior, but the food was done so perfectly, it would be idiocy to critique the architecture."

  • "My wife and I love to try French restaurants wherever we go, and L'Oustau didn't disappoint. The wait staff is a young crew of excellent servers that did a fantastic job. The menu covered most of the 'bases', and everything we tried was a hit. The bar had what I'd call the traditional decor of a french brasserie bar with plenty of wood and mirrors. Our Escargot was served in a puff pastry that was not the usual presentation I'm accustomed to seeing, but delicious. We shared a Boeuf Bourguignon and a Rabbit terrine. The Boeuf was melt-in-your-mouth tender with the traditional pearl onions and mushrooms, along with a beautifully balanced gravy. The portion was big enough for two. The Rabbit terrine had great flavor. Would go again!"

  • "We've been dining in the Stratton/Manchester area for years and while we've enjoyed several local restaurants, the Brasserie has truly surpassed our expectations. From a welcoming French host to a lovely didning room reminiscent of a French brasserie, to highly attentive wait staff and finally the exquisite food. The entire experience was fabulous and we can't wait to go back! My only negative note would be relative to the wine list, which seemed somewhat limited and pricey. Would love the ability to bring our own wine for a corkage fee of course."

  • "The atmosphere was enjoyable but service was slow. The Bouillabaisse (special of the day) was disappointing with not much flavor other than tomato in the broth and not enough seafood. It lacked much seafood flavor and no fennel or much other flavor. It tasted like tomato soup with a few pieces of seafood thrown in. The steak with bordelaise sauce and frites was fairly good. The salads were very good."

  • "Had a fabulous brunch to celebrate our girlfriend's 60th! Started with delicious Belliniis, the waiter was attentive and jovial, the bus staff on top of it and if anyone made noise, we certainly did. We had a lovely table in a corner away from other diners. My friends had not been there and all are foodies of sorts and enjoyed every morsel. We had the fix prixe menu and loved the meal. Everyone said they would return! And the owner is there and is from France with high expectations of his food and service."

  • "I am always impressed when visiting a restaurant the owner welcomes you personally. It just helps project an extra sense of caring. The owner of Brasserie L'Oustau de Provence, is as some staff note "omni-present". Maybe that is why the restaurant staff pay so much attention to small details, like crumbs on the table, water refills, and making sure you want not without being the least be obtrusive. The menu while perhaps not truly French definitely has French flairs and to say it is delicious is simply an understatement. We have been here often and it is always a treat to the pallet and spirit in an desert of fast food joints and diners. Oh and try the citrus soufflé accompanied by a cappuccino with a dash of Cointreau."

  • "We took a friend there for her first visit and, as always, the hospitality, ambience and food were top notch. Two weeks ago I had their awesome cheeseburger for the first time and it was so extraordinary that I repeated that entree this time and wasn't disappointed in my choice. My wife had the Tian Provencale which she proclaimed delicious and our guest had the grilled scallops. Yet another in a long string of outstanding dining experiences and we can heartily recommend this restaurant and will be back again and again."

  • "Having travelled extensively throughout Europe, especially France, this was undoubtedly the worst food we have ever been served - Boeuf Bourginon that required a serrated knife and Guinea Fowl that appeared to have been re-heated. if this restaurant was located in France it would be hard to imagine it would be in business for long if our experience was anything to go by. The merest apology from the Head Waitress was wholly inadequate. We felt sorry for the other waiting staff who obviously depend on sizeable tips as the food preparation is outside of their control. One to definitely miss!!!!!!!!!"
