Brasserie Jo - BostonEnjoyed dining at Brasserie JoOn Saturday evening three friends and I met for dinner at Brasserie Jo for dinner before heading to a Boston Pops concert. Our dining experience was great. The food was very good, and the waiters were attentive and made sure we were finished dining with ample time to reach the concert. The atmosphere there is quite lovely, and I would recommend this restaurant.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat food - great placeAnother great meal in two weeks!! We had the duck, salmon and bass - great portions and great choices! The cappuccino was terrific as was the cobbler. The bibb lettuce salad terrific again!! And they served the wine in beautiful glasses - thin and large! This happens when you purchase wine by the bottle rather than by the glass! I highly recommend buying a bottle as the glasses enhance the experience!6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious! The Cote de Boeuf is fantastic. Also the chocolate mousse!6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat spot for a special occasion. We celebrated our thirteenth anniversary by dining at Brasserie Jo and going on to the Boston Pops. The food was delicious, service was good with a good selection of wines. I would recommend it for any special occasion.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMStopped at Brasserie Jo quiteStopped at Brasserie Jo quite late on a rainy Monday night for an after-concert supper. It was excellent. The food was well-prepared and the service more than excellent, even though there were few people in the restaurant. The onion soup is out of this world and perfect for a rainy night. I ordered a second appetizer--sweetbreads--which were excellent, though the chopped tomatoes they were served with conflicted a little. But you didn't have to eat them. My dinner companion had the short ribs and thought they were wonderful. The baguettes that come with every meal are delicious too. There aren't too many first-class restaurants whose kitchens are open after 10:00. This was a great choice.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMBrasserie Jo - Consistently SuperbOne thing you know when you go to Brasserie Jo's, you will get a great meal. Been there for dinner, for restaurant week lunch, and now for brunch and always get a great meal, ample portions, and decent prices. Omelettes were terrific, service was solid, all good!6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMa bon goûtOur night here was a little slice of France. Lavender cocktail, white asparagus pea tendril salad with poached egg, smoked salmon stuffed with horseradish creme, and the Floating Island dessert with a cappuccino of course. My husband also had one of the best earthy Malbecs (from Cahor)! C'était merveilleux!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMHad very good dinner for two.Had very good dinner for two. Food was great and service great also.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMNice dinnerPleasant and were very consider it of pacing us so we were not late for the Pops!
Salmon was excellent and so was the bread pudding.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWe love this restaurant andWe love this restaurant and recommend it highly to everyone!!! Walking distance from Sympathy Hall6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat french bistro!!Food was outstanding - when I am able to RAVE about a simple salad with a lovely lemon vinaigrette dressing and light leaf lettuce and the bread --this is pretty amazing!! The salmon was great as were the profiteroles. Wine selection was terrific. And to top all of this off - our server was attentive without being too present. He was one of the best waiters we have ever had. Thanks so much - Brasserie Jo!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGood eatsI've always enjoyed the seafood there. The fashion show at lunchtime on Fridays is quite nice addition.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a lovely celebration dinnerWe were in town to celebrate our daughter's graduation and the restaurant honored my request for a round table. The staff was friendly and efficient and our waiter was very pleasant and accommodating. The menu had plenty of options and the food and wine were delicious. I would definitely go back or recommend to a friend.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place for Breakfast or BrunchThe wait staff as well as the ambiance was perfect for a calm and romantic late breakfast with my wife. I can not vouch for the night-life scene, but before 11am this place has it down-pat! Great music and service...very clean facilities...but most of all the french toast and coffee were great. We will definitely be back during our next trip to Boston.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMSmooth OperatorsThey know what they're doing. It's always a great experience.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoyed a delightful dinnerWe enjoyed a delightful dinner before an event at Symphony Hall. The food was excellent (superb roasted salmon) as was the service and ambiance. On the cocktail menu, the Peach Passion is a winner. We will definitely return to Brasserie Jo.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Night OutEverything was excellent. The food was delicious, and the service was outstanding! Would definitely recommend and will be back next time we are in Boston.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic foodWe went pre symphony. Felt as if we were in a French bistro in Paris. While bread and water came immediately it took 15 minutes for our server to show. The French onion soup was excellent! We each ordered mussels and pommes frites. They exceeded anything we have had on numerous trips to Europe. Nice assortment of domestic and French wines by the glass. Through out the meal the waiter would show up and then disappear for long periods of time. We'd go again but would leave much more time.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMDining before theatre is alwaysDining before theatre is always daunting. We arrived at the restaurant in a downpour. The valet greeted us with an umbrella and ushered us right inside the door. The attentive staff immediately filled water glasses and presented a warm, crusty baguette and seasoned carrots. Our waiter helped us to select a great wine as well as our dinner choices. The cauliflower stir fry is served with a garlicky yogurt dressing and it is delicious. Beet salad and onion soup gratinee were well prepared. Coq au vin is the best in Boston. Duck l'orange was crispy on the outside and very tender meat. My husband thought the scallops were perfect. Portion sizes are very generous, but with food this delicious, there is no question about taking home a treat!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat spot for before SymphonyRomantic setting like a trip to a Paris neighborhood restaurant. Conversation flowed and there was enough space between tables so you could actually hear what your companion said. French and Alsacian menu plus regional seasonal specialites were interesting and well executed. Our scallops with fiddlehead fern appetizer was outstanding. Service was efficient, but we were not rushed.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was very good, andThe food was very good, and in many ways so was the service. The only issue was that the waiter was less than attentive.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat food, great servicehad a mother's day open-buffet brunch with our toddler there last sunday. great food(the pastries are very successful), very good service(though since this was get-your-own-food-open-buffet type of setup for mother's day, so i can't say too much for a full scale, regular dining experience based on this visit).
very satisfactory experience overall, we will go again. highly recommended!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoyed an upbeat brunchWe enjoyed an upbeat brunch on Mother's Day. The atmosphere was relaxed, set off by a live jazz band that was very good. The buffet was nicely presented and had a wonderful charcuterie selection, fresh fruit, pastry, salads, and a multitude of hot dishes; we especially enjoyed the braised pork shanks, the eggs benedict, the omelet station and the chocolate flourless cake. All the moms were given a small hydrangea plant; a nice touch. Service was knowledgeable and attentive. Unfortunately, it was too cold to sit outside on their patio. The one con: it was pricey like many of the better restaurants in Boston. We hope management is mindful of their customer's wallets....5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious! We were there for a late bunch----it was SO good!
Chocolate french toast: The children's menu was very limited (though I was surprised there was a kids menu at all) so my 6 y.o. ordered the chocolate french toast off the regular menu. It was chocolate stuffed and drizzled with chocolate sauce. As soon as the plate was put in front of her she licked it--not so good for manners but the waiter said he would have done the same thing :)
Open faced ham, egg, cheese crepe: Perfectly, perfectly cooked. Absolutely delicious. I would highly recommend.
Also nice if you have kids: They give out crayons and the tables are covered with white paper so it is a giant coloring pad. The staff was SO friendly with my daughter.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMRelaxing SpotWe regularly eat here before symphony. Convenient location, excellent staff, good food, pleasant room.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a consistently fineThis is a consistently fine restaurant with very decent French Food. I highly recommend it, it is particularly convenient to Synphony Hall, the Huntington Theatre and other event venues.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMBetter than Balthazar'sThis is a fine brasserie experience in Boston. I think it compares favorably, and is much more affordable than Balthazar's Brasserie in New York. The country pate set the right tone; the white bean/sausage soup was great; and the profiteroles? Luxurious.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMService was great, our waiter,Service was great, our waiter, Ali, was patient answering all of our questions. He and all the waiters working with him had us smiling throughout our meal. Our meal was delicious, starting with the warm baguette and butter and carrots and ending with profiteroles. In between that, the Croque madame was one of the best I've had. The salmon crepe was light and generously filled with salmon and the Jo burger was a meat-lover's dream. I would definitely recommend and we will be back!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWell, this was a night outWell, this was a night out in Boston after the horrific events of the Boston Marathon for my husband's birthday. The atmosphere felt as though we were in a small bistro in Paris. We had a beautiful table on the street enjoying the people strolling by on a beautiful night. We both had the French Onion soup, DELISH. Don had the Steak Frite and I had the Duck a la Orange! There was nothing left on our plates! Our waiter was wonderfully attentive without being on top of us...WONDERFUL experience...we will be back.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMLove the hot French breadLove the hot French bread here. While the plats principaux never disappoint, it's the bread that makes me crave dining here. What can I say? I'm a carbs addict. A friend who was in the party was dining here for the first time, and she characterized the small plate of Dijon-marinated carrots and the bread as one of the best appetizers she's ever eaten.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGrace under PressureWe arrived a little late for our res, yet still were welcomed very graciously, and allowed our choice of table. The coq au vin rivals that which I've had in New York or Paris, delicious as always. The service may have been a tad slower than usual, but our waiter apologized and we were not concerned; we could see that a great influx came in after the Symphony matinee ended at an unusual time. From our perspective the food and service were perfect, and this was just days after the tragedy on Patriot's Day. Brasserie Jo truly is a local gem! (I wish we had one near our home on North Shore.)4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went on a Friday night. We went on a Friday night. It was crowded. Food was excellent. Service was a little slow, and it was very noisy in the restaurant (a little too noisy for us). 4 stars.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMConventiently located nearConventiently located near Symphony Hall, Huntington Theatre and shopping, this is a great spot for lunch or dinner. Hands down, the best martini's in town. The wait staff are professional and the menu is standard bistro fare with evening specials. Most of the offerings are time tested and welcome reminders of how good food can be. Steamed muscles are a favorite.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWe visited Brasserie Jo twiceWe visited Brasserie Jo twice during the week of the recent tragedy in Boston. The food was really, really good, and the reception was quite professional! The service was frustrating, however. We were studiously ignored for almost thirty minutes after being seated on our first visit, and having asked if we had questions about the menu (which we did), the accented waiter simply turned and walked away. While attending to tables next to us, he treated us as if we were invisible for extended periods of time. This may be a stereotype for French service, but I've never actually been treated that way in France. As I said before, the food was great, and this more than made up for the indifferent service. I'll be back!4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat service !Great place with a good regular options with a French wannabe accent. The plus was the excepcional service performed by our waiter.
Really he made our experience more special.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThis restaurant can be a destinatioThis restaurant can be a destination for a special event or for a casual after work dining. There is hearty fare such as short ribs braised in wine to lighter fare such as flatbread pizzas with creative toppings such as smoked salmon.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food and atmosphere wasThe food and atmosphere was great. Good flow to the evening from appetizers to dessert. Great seafood, steak, and wine.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe brunch menu is wonderfulThe brunch menu is wonderful and our waiter was super busy but was attentive, polite and thoughtful. A do over for sure4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were about 10 minutes lateWe were about 10 minutes late for our 10:30 am brunch reservation and then waited another 20 for our table which might have been a tad much unless our table was released in which case I understand. We were seated at a mostly un-set table (a fork, knife, and a glass) which was poor form at this price point. Eventually napkins and coffee arrived. Had to request spoon to stir coffee. Water came after the 2nd request (15 minutes after the first). Luckily the food made up for all the service hiccups. Each of us loved our perfectly prepared brunch dishes so I'll assume the service issues were out of the ordinary and will add Brasserie Jo to my list of places to go when we visit Boston.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place for a meal beforeGreat place for a meal before seeing something at Symphony Hall -- food was excellent and our waiter made sure we got out when we needed to. Not crowded on a Sunday evening.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMThe profiteroles at BrasserieThe profiteroles at Brasserie Jo are the best dessert in Boston!!4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMDinner time the food is especiallyDinner time the food is especially good and the service is only half as bad as the morning service. While the waitstaff is friendly and will make excellent recommendation, we had to ask for water several times and they tend to just disappear after food is served. Guests of the hotel (Colonnade) get a 15% discount coupon, only one per visit though, but this will only be 15% on the wine and not on alcohol (which is in very very fine print on the coupon). Some of the dishes were quite good, the salads are nice however the duck is overcooked and beware: their house speciality for dessert profiteroles is massive.. share it among two or three people but do not attempt to eat this alone4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMTarte plumbee was awesome.Tarte plumbee was awesome. Porched eggs are fascinating. Capuchino is coming beautifully stacked. Staffs are friendly.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is my favorite placeThis is my favorite place to go before the Huntington theatre or symphony. I leave 2 full hours before the ticket, so there shouldn't be a problem with time. The waiter was VERY slow, however, and not at all attentive. We did order dessert, but the wrong one was brought. He caught it, as I was telling the person who brought it that it was wrong, and took it away before I could tell him that we didn't have time to wait for him to fix the problem, because of how slow he'd been to bring it in the first place. So, we ended up paying for a dessert we had just a couple of bites of and leaving stressed. The reservation said it was a pre-theatre reservation. The wait staff should, if they know that, pay attention to the time.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMSuch a lovely place for dinnerSuch a lovely place for dinner before the Symphony. The menu is very nice, and the servers do credit to the offerings. They know the food and the wine, and they are just attentive enough to the table. Excellent bread and sweet butter, also tasty marinated carrots on the table for those who are trying to avoid carbs! We shared an appetizer and a main, and both were tasty and satisfying. We will return.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMAmbiance reminded me of 1920-30'sAmbiance reminded me of 1920-30's hollywood depiction of dining clubs. Wait staff, especially our waiter, were exceptionally friendly and good - they were there when we needed them but otherwise not intrusive. The menu was interesting; the food was very good, and the wine list was a nice succinct list of french table wines (we didn't look for or ask about anything at the high end of spectrum). We are from other cities and were in town for the symphony. Brasserie Jo was just what we were looking for.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMConvivial, great food, wonderfulConvivial, great food, wonderful atmosphere. We had a lovely evening!3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMBoth the food and the serviceBoth the food and the service were fantastic. Would absolutely recommend.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMB-Jos the French place to goWe've been to B-Jo's before, eating at the bar or dining in the restaurant. Food is always excellent. Their drinks are always good sized -- martinis in big glasses rather than at a lot of other places where the martini glasses are much smaller and not even filled. I would recommend B-Jos to anyone looking for excellent French food in Boston.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMOnly some minor quibblesReally enjoyed the evening. Food was great (sweetbreads & steak tartare for apps; salad nicoise w/tuna and steak frites as entrees) with only exception being the skate wings entree which were a little dull on flavor. Really friendly waitstaff. Drinks weren't timed with the meal which was a bit frustrating because I sat for 5 mins while waiting for my wine. Several items we want to try on the menu. We'll be coming back.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
