Diner Reviews
  • "We come to the restaurant pretty regularly and our favorite dish are the mussels and pommes frites. this time the mussels were rather cold and were a much smaller portion than in the past. two of our guests who ordered the same thing did not get their pommes frites with their meal so we had to ask for them. also asked for another roll and that never came. so the food this time was mediocre and the service was the same."

  • "The best part of the Brasserie is by far the food. Everything is absolutely delicious and I can't imagine someone not enjoying their meal. The service is also great, as is the atmosphere (very much in the vein of a French café like you'd see in the movies). Overall a great place and a relative bargain considering the quality of the food."

  • "We love this place and visit as frequently as we can. The service is good, the wine is great, and the food is simple, but wonderfully prepared and presented. Best French restaurant in St. Louis."

  • "Love the bistro atmosphere. Dining here feels like you're in the middle of Paris. We've been here a number of times and the food is always excellent - a favorite is the mussels and frets."

  • "While hardly fussy, Brasserie has some of the best food in St. Louis. The menu is limited but each dish is a gem. The wait staff are solicitous while not irritating or fawning and the sound level is non-intrusive."

  • "We were excited to be back. It has been to long. And then seated in the penalty box. Cut off from the room. I could not savor the simplistic beauty of the room, as I couldn't see it. Our server was kind and attentive. The food was delightful. We will be back.....but never to be sat at that horrible table again."

  • "Good Menu. We had a great pate appetizer. Loved the trout! Just ordere wine by the glass. Value excellent for the price. Or vice versa."

  • "The food was fantastic & the service as well. We had a great time."

  • "Quality creative food; appetizer through desert. Quality presentation and service throughout. Comfortable feel . Not cheap, but worth the price. My wife and I split a dish and each received an ample portion. All portions were generous. Three of us shared two deserts and there was more than enough. Highly recommend."

  • "This was our first visit to Brasserie by Niche and it certainly will not be our last. From the moment we entered the door Niche had a truly a great authentic French Bistro taste, look and feel with some wonderful American hospitality and outstanding service. All starters and entrees were standout , the French Onion soup, Escargot, and Steak Tartre were as good as any that we had sampled in Paris. A very thoughtful, reasonably priced wine list and a kind knowledgeable waiter rounded out an evening that was magnifique'."

  • "This is a consistently good restaurant. The decor is warm and friendly; the staff are professional, polite, very helpful without being overbearing. The menu uses a lot of local Missouri/Illinois produce and meat. While there are the consistent favorites in the appetizers, mains and deserts there are also wonderful specials - which really are special. The onion soup is outstanding, the braised beef and roasted chicken are long-standing favorites. I could make a meal out of the cheese puff appetizers and the floating island is the best I have ever had!"

  • "The staff, the food and service are always more than I expect. My wife and I have never been disappointed. Best romantic date restaurant in St. Louis. Thanks again for a memorable evening."

  • "Have been to the restaurant twice now. I have to say I do not like the type of lettuce they choose for their salads, too bitter. I think adding some romaine would improve the salads greatly."

  • "The Brasserie was an excellent French dining experience. We always look for good muscles and fries and they had it! Delicious. The creme brulee was also fantastic."

  • "We love this place! The food, the service, the ambiance are all terrific. We went with the gnocchi, which I find often is prepared more like heavy dumplings rather than the airy pillows they should be; these were lovely. Though, I really don't think there is a need to sear them. The mussels with their delicious sauce and fabulous thin, crispy frites are always a good bet. I was hoping that the caramel pecan tart would be on offer for dessert, but sadly it was gone, replaced however by a luscious lime souffle tart. We used the valet car parking service for the first time & found the gentleman working that night (3/17) to be very professional and helpful. He is a fine representative for the restaurant and I hope management notices."

  • "Living in the Central West End, we sometimes take Brasserie for granted. We shouldn't. The service was great, and the expertly prepared steak frites and croque madame were exactly what we needed on a raw night. If I have one gripe, it's the downright ugliness of the bar area. It feels like a total afterthought -- a place to warehouse guests waiting for seats. But everything else was fabulous. Can't wait for outdoor dining weather!"

  • "My husband and I thought the food was excellent, especially the roasted chicken. Our server, Jacob, was one of the best servers we'd ever had. He was very knowledgeable about the menu, patient with our laid back pace and accommodating of our different requests. We will definitely be back to eat at Brasserie!"

  • "We have never been disappointed at Brasserie by Niche. A place I take guests when I am looking for that chic, continental menu and ambiance. Cozy in winter, great outdoor dining area in warmer temps."

  • "It was our first time there. The food was fantastic. Loved finding great oysters in St. Louis. Can't wait to go again to try the mussels....something else you don't see much of in St. Louis. It was a little noisy so it was sometimes hard to hear our table conversation."

  • "We are not residents of St. Louis, but when we visit we always try to go to Brasserie at least once. This is a lovely restaurant with terrific food. If you can possibly save room for dessert, the profiteroles are exceptional. I would also point out that I asked for a kir -- most bartenders put too much cassis in a kir, but this one was perfect. Highly recommended."

  • "This was my fire time at Brasserie. I've been to Niche and was at Taste (their other bar/restaurant next door) one time last year. I have enjoyed Niche but found Taste to be filled with an extremely pretentious staff and the food and drinks to be overpriced and underwelming. So, this had me coming into my meal at Brasserie with mixed expectations. I was please fly surprised at every turn. I found the service to be excellent, the food was delicious, and the prices, while not cheap, to be fair for the quality of the food and drink. Dinner at Brasserie was definitely the highlight of my weekend, and I look forward to returning."

  • "It was good, as always, but maybe not as good as it has been in the past. We went on a Friday and there were no specials. None. We pretty much go for the amazing specials so that was somewhat of a disappointment. It was so strange. The waiter offered no explanation, just sort of a passing "There's nothing off the menu tonight." I guess we should have asked why, but we didn't. We had to remind the waiter to bring mayo my husband wanted with his fries. Overall it was a good experience but just not as good as it has been when we have been there in the past. The food was great. We will go back for sure, but there were just a couple little things that surprised us after the phenomenal experiences we have had there in the past."

  • "We went to Brasserie for dinner on Valentine's Day and usually on busy evenings like this, restaurants will limit their menu or the service will be slow - not here! Full choice of menu, server was very knowledgeable and prompt, food was excellent and the entire experience a pleasant surprise. OH...and we were seated at the exact time of our reservation with a packed house. Cannot wait to go back!"

  • "A typical French bistro.....pretend you are in Paris and have some delicious frites with yummy garlicky aioli and wonderful rolls with European butter. A lovely place for dinner. The poached egg salad with lardons is just right for a light dinner....dessert was a prune custard with prune ice cream......just delicious and what you might expect at a bistro in the French countryside. In warm weather the patio is the best."

  • "We come to Brasserie a half-dozen times a year, and always leave well-satisfied. Our recent visit was no exception. It was Valentine's Day, and I was glad that they were serving their full menu instead of something fixed. We did what we did every time: look at the menu and then order the chicken. It's amazing -- not unlike the roast chicken at Thomas Keller's Bouchon. Our waiter was professional and enthusiastic but also unobtrusive. My only nit to pick (and I'd pick this nit with most restaurants in STL that do this) is with the selections on the cheeseboard, which we had for desert, are cheeses I can go into any cheese shop or even my local Schnucks and get. I'd greatly prefer to have something I can't get anywhere else."

  • "There were a very limited number of vegetarian options, so I ordered the gnocchi, which was nearly inedible. The meat selection may be better, but I would not return to Brasserie."

  • "Definitely feels like you are not in St. Louis, which is a plus sometimes! The salted cod app is excellent. Mussels were so-so."

  • "This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend. We took him on his word and arrived to $3 Valet parking. On a cold, icy night that was a plus. Upon entering we were immediately seated at our table. The servers were prompt and listened to our requests down to the last detail. My wife prefers a sweet red wine which was not on the wine list. Our server mixed a red and white to get the desired effect to please my wife. Our food was outstanding with my wife enjoying the grilled chicken and I the braised beef. I would highly recommend this restaurant and it's a place we will return to in the near future. Excellent job!"

  • "Have dined here multiple times in the past and as always, it was very good...we chose it for Valentine's day. We were seated on time, ambience was wonderful on a cold winter's night. Our server, Jacob, was great. His wine recommendations were right on. The goat tart was excellent as was the onion soup. Will continue to return when possible."

  • "The food was really good but we got stuck with a bad waiter. When you pay that kind of money for a meal you expect to be wooed by the server. He couldn't have cared less. I asked him if there were any specials and he replied that there weren't any. Two minutes later I hear a different waiter at the next table tell another couple about a special that sounded awesome. Overall good place!"

  • "While our foursome had a nice evening It was not great. I had heard so many great things about Brassereie so I guess I was expecting more. The service was very good except for being ignored for several minutes while the hostess did more important things at her stand than to greet us at 6:20 when the place was not busy. The food was decent but nothing special for the $140 we spent."
