Brasserie 292Upgrade the bread! The food at Brasserie 292 was excellent French bistro food - except for the bread! (Hence the four stars for food.) Anyone serving that bread in Paris would be laughed out of town: soft-crusted, squishy and bland. And the bread is really key to good French food. I suggest the Brasserie contact the Culinary Institute either to buy some or to find out where to get the real thing.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat eats in POKLove this restaurant. Waiter was super. Food was excellent. Tuna and salmon were well prepared. Prices reasonable. Great Sancere. Desserts so so but gelato passable ( nothing like gelato in Rome but then what is?) very enjoyable.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place, fantastic atmosphereMy only complaint about this place is the lack of gluten-free bread--and that's a minor complaint; I can deal with it. Otherwise, the food is delicious, great wine list (and bar), and an amazing atmosphere. It's nice, but relaxed, with pleasant jazz music playing. The selection is great for both lunch and dinner, and portions are very generous. I have been here a few times for lunch, and brought relatives from out of town here for a birthday dinner. The lunch menu is great--and very affordable--I particularly love the chicken salad sandwich (although without the bread for me) and many of the salads. It was the perfect spot for a low-key birthday dinner, and everyone (with very different tastes) was able to find something they loved.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a good mealThis was our third visit to Brasserie 292. The food choices are consistently interesting and delicious. We will return again and again6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGood French Bistro foodThe special skate dish was exceptional - prepared in a way I'd never had. The service was overall good, but the Internet was down and we had to pay cash instead of using a credit card. That was a bit annoying. We don't live nearby, but I would definitely return if we are in the area again.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMFinally in PoughkeepsieAt long last there is an oasis of fine food, drink, service and atmosphere in Poughkeepsie.Too bad Main Street is still in need of a facelift, but hopefully the Brasserie is paving the way for a much-needed rebirth of what could and should be a wonderful Hudson Valley river city. We are from NYC and the standards of ambiance and service hold their own at 292.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother great eveningTook my fiance here for her Birthday. We have come here many times and love everything about the place. The food and service are amazing as always and I just love the circular booths. It make sitting close to my honey so easy. Without prompting they even put a candle on her birthday plate, something that is always forgotten when we have celebrate Birthdays at the CIA. Thanks Brassiere 292 for such a memorable experience.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was greatWe were there for Mother's Day dinner. It was a wonder dining experience. The servers were extremely friendly and the food was outstanding. The is definitely a gem in the city of Poughkeepsie.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMNYC Class Food on Main StThis gem seems like it was plucked out of the high end NYC dining scene and plunked down on the up and coming section of Main Street in Poughkeepsie. The food is fresh, well prepared and delicious. Brunch, lunch, and dinner are all amazing. Price makes this not an everyday dining experience (but it's very reasonable for the quality and experience you are getting) I recommend Brassarie 292 for special occasions and an outstanding night out. The interior is as lovely as the food. Service is outstanding. I always look forward to a meal here. What else can I say?5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstandingAmbiance, Service, Food, Cocktails, Company. What more can one say.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMOut on a Saturday nightWe really do love this Poughkeepsie restaurant! At first, when we arrived, we were seated at a table that was broken and the waitress had to stick something under the bottom to stabilize it. Then, we were told the specials, liked what we heard and wanted to order it but was told it would be at least an hour, before it would be ready! This was a major disappointment. We had to ask for bread after waiting an unusual amount of time, while we watched a cluster of waiters standing by the kitchen door talking. We got the impression that something very wrong had happen that night, but after all of that, the food was cooked perfectly, and the wine that the waitress suggested was fabulous! Needless to say, we will be back again!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthdayThis was where my husband wanted to go for his birthday. He enjoyed it. The decor is really cool. One thing we noticed was their vast bourbon selection. The bartender was very knowledgable and enjoyed telling us about the different bourbons.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFood A+++ ... Service had issuesWent for brunch,,service a little shakey..got buscuits and gravy when i ordered the crab omelette. Ordered oysters as an appetizer which came out after the entrees were delivered. All of these errors were remedied to our satifaction. Food was delicious as well as the cocktails and desserts. The pastry basket is not to be missed.Just read the online menu before you go because many of the items are not on the menu given at the restaurant and you have to ask for them which was a little strange. Will definitely give Brasserie 292 a second chance just fromthe quality of the food alone.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my 3rd visit to Brasserie,This was my 3rd visit to Brasserie, and it will certainly not be my last! The food is fantastic -- and even though the restaurant is pretty crowded and quite noisy on Friday nights, it is well worth it for the delicious meal. I had been craving the fried oyster appetizer for weeks, and it was exquisite! We were a party of three, and our main courses were the pork belly and scallop (incredible -- the scallops were perfection!!), the steak frites (divine...the Bearnaise sauce is impeccable), and another steak dish (I cannot recall which one, but my brother raved about it -- it was his first visit). I highly recommend Brasserie 292 to foodies in the Hudson Valley!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMYummy... just a spot of grease!Three friends and I took my boyfriend here for his birthday. The servers were all very kindly and not overly attentive, giving us plenty of complimentary bread, always water, refilling drinks and giving us just enough time with each round of food. The appetizer house salad was very healthy, and the camambert, although burning our throats by its pungency, was vibrant and nice. The steak portions were enormous for such pretense, and were accompanied by overwhelming portions of french fries that the table shared. Salmon with ratatouille was a delicious and atypical flavor palate. Shrimp pasta wanted to be Italian but was also delicious. Don't get the Panna Cotta for dessert, but everything else that we had was AMAZING!
I'll return!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThe service is stellar: attention,The service is stellar: attention, knowledge, personable without crowding and are never rushed. The food is fresh, creative, dances with the taste buds, and a variety for everyone. Cocktails are fun, crowd is always upbeat and lively. When I step inside, I'm transported out of town and fully immerse myself in the mini-holiday.My Westchester family and Pennsylvania friends come frequently and always ask "what time are reservations at 292"? One of my favorite and oddball things is that left overs are delivered with your receipt. They don't have to sit on the table or floor. Now with all that said, I hope I will still be able to get reservations.Enjoy!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food, service and decorThe food, service and decor were all top notch. The complaint I have was with the lack of space surrounding the tables. On a couple of occasions, some of the wait staff bumped into the back of my chair, which is annoying. The other issue was the bistro table I was sitting at was not level.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food gets better and betterThe food gets better and better at every visit! Your bartender is exceptional!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat addition to the cityGreat addition to the city of Poughkeepsie. Classic french dishes done fabulously well such as mussels and frites, onion soup but also great pasta dishes and fish as well.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMeverything was greatnice ambience, great food, good service. there wasn't a single thing i can say was unsatisfactory. just a really nice experience.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMJust a lovely birthday dinner.Just a lovely birthday dinner. Love going on Sundays for the $1 Blue Point Oyster Special!!!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely, lively restaurantLovely, lively restaurant - great find in Poughkeepsie. Recommend sticking to the tried and true - some of the fish dishes seemed a bit fussy for our tastes. Great appetizers!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGrilled Calamari salad wasGrilled Calamari salad was great....made me want more.Everything was perfect as each entree was "as advertized" and very good.I heartily recommend the restaurant. It is a great part of the revival of down town Poughkeepsie.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was absolutely fantastic, serviFood was absolutely fantastic, service was top norch!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time we went to BrasserieFirst time we went to Brasserie 292, great menu, special emphasis on great shell fish and raw bar. The ambience and decor is really special, great tin ceilings with retro light fixtures. What a great find in Poughkeepsie!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMRestaurant week taken seriouslyBrasserie 292 took restaurant week seriously. All 3 courses were pleasant surprises. The appetizer was a very large scallop with a nice presentation. The hanger steak was accompanied by tiny potatoes, haricot vert, pancetta, in a rich sauce and the tarte was good although it was hard to taste the fruit. The room is lively not noisy. They clearly modeled it after Balthazar but did it well.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMA must-goWent for Hudson Valley Restaurant week and was not disappointed. Food and service were outstanding, and the place was immaculate. I had scallop appetizer, which was yummy, and cavatelli entree, which was very tasty and well prepared. Spouse had fried duck and hanger steak, and loved both. Great desserts, pear tart and a chocolate/hazelnut pudding, with delicious coffee. Our first time there, but we will be going back.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThe only thing I did not careThe only thing I did not care for was the bread that was served. If I remember correctly there was very few wine choices by the glass, although I might have missed it. The food was excellent and the service unobtrusive.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely nothing short ofAbsolutely nothing short of AMAZING !!! (time and time again)
Food, Drink and Service.... Everything was excellent, well cooked and spiced. I had calamari and cavatelli in an arrabiata spicy sauce, fried duck and a wonderful nutella dessert. We had great conversation and wonderful dinner. I recommend Brasserie to those in the area.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went there the first timeWe went there the first time this past Thursday for restaurant week. I absolutely loved it. I think I have found my special place. The decor its wonderful...definitely felt as though I had left Poughkeepsie for the evening...cozy, warm yet chic. While waiting at the bar for my friend, I described a drink I had while in Key West last Spring....the bartender replicated it perfectly! We sat in one of their marvelous booths....the food and service was just amazing....complex layering of flavors, perfectly seasoned.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMA Gem on Main StreetLove this restaurant. Great food and drinks. The atmosphere is a bit loud, but very enjoyable. The staff is top notch. Try the carpetbaggers or fried oysters.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and Service were outstanding.Food and Service were outstanding. Presentation beautiful and everything was delicious.
