Diner Reviews
  • "Creme brulee was exceptional! The cold potato soup was not really very good. I wouldn't necessarily go again with the restaurant week menu as it was."

  • "We had a great experience as part of the August restaurant week. While we were only given two options per course (as compared to the usual three that most restaurants offer) the food and drinks were excellent. I especially appreciated the variety of cocktails. The staff was attentive and careful to ensure that we were satisfied, without going overboard. I highly recommend this place for a quiet, date-night outing."

  • "Very tasty food beautifully arranged. A pleasure for the palate as well as the eyes. Immaculate, friendly service. A good deal for restaurant week!"

  • "I took a friend there for her birthday last Sunday. Enjoyed it so much just made a reservation to take another friend there this coming Sunday. It was that good!"

  • "Went to BRABO for Restaurant Week. My friend ordered off the Restaurant Week menu, I had the regular menu. I had greek goddess salad, salmon with tomato water, and parfair for dessert. It was all very good. The salmon dish didn't have a whole lot of flavor but I felt it was healthy choice, the water said it was their take on light summer fare. The parfait was so good I wanted to take another one home. Nice restaurant with space between tables, which I like -- not too crowded dining area. Friendly waiters. So, will go back again, I wasn't disappointed at all."

  • "Brabo is a fine restaurant with great attention to detail. Presentation is appetizing without being unnecessarily fru fru and pretentious. Even the greens are fabulous. For those who are more adventurous, I would recommend eating a dish you "think" you might not like. Brabo has a special knack for new interpretations and great flavor profiles. The wine list, however, depresses me by reminding me that I can't afford to drink wines in my own cellar."

  • "Appetizers were excellent and dessets were very good. Main courses were average. Maybe this restaurant has seen its primetime passed"

  • "Everything was delicious. I had the royal sea bass filet and my husband ordered the honey roasted duck breast. Both entrees were absolutely delicious and perfectly prepared. My husband's favorite part of dinner was his cocktail. I believe it was called a gazpacho rickey? He said it was tart and refreshing and that he could drink an entire pitcher. The only thing I didn't like was that the tables were so close to one another."

  • "We went to take advantage of their restaurant week menu and were glad we did. We got the melt-in-your-mouth hangar steak and the red snapper (available as an alternative to the skate option listed on the menu) as our entrees. Service was super attentive and helpful; we had all the right time between courses so that we were never rushed nor were we left waiting for the next dish."

  • "I was disappointed with our meal at Brabo. We had a reservation at 8pm. The host didn't seat us until 8:15pm. I understand that it was restaurant week and busy. Our waiter literally forgot about us; he came over once between 8:15 pm and 9pm. We tried to flag him down multiple times. We weren't given the opportunity to even order dinner until 9:10pm. Once ordered, the food came out quickly. I was rather disappointed with the sea bass - I received a thin, flat, and large end piece; not what you expect when you order sea bass. I also ordered a side of the mushrooms, which was different than described on the menu. By the time I realized their substitution, it was 9:30 pm and we were just too hungry to reorder. Overall, very disappointing."

  • "My husband and I celebrated a special occasion hoping for a memorable meal. The salad was dry and the salmon was too tough and tasteless. The wine was excellent."
    Dined on 8/15/2014
  • "Both the food and service were superb. The food presentation was also great."

  • "Can't remember the entree name, but it ended up being a piece of steak with french fries. The salad was very good, the dessert was fair. I'd eaten there several times before and really enjoyed the food from the regular menu, but I don't think they put much effort in to the $35 meal for Restaurant Week."
    Dined on 8/15/2014
  • "Overall it was ok. Asked about wine, but food came before I was given options. So had appetizer but wine pairing came late. First courses were great. Crab cakes and ricotta dinudi. Main course, sea bass great and sword fish dry. Desserts. .. waffle was good, mousse was ordinary. Like sister restaurant Marcel's much better."

  • "The fish dishes we ordered were good. We noticed that you really have to love the theme of the ingredients in the fish dishes. The flavors become prominant in the dishes. The food proportions were perfect, except for the dessert. The desert was ridiculously tiny. Not at all a good ending to our celebratory meal."

  • "We enjoyed an excellent Restaurant Week dinner at Brabo. The service was very attentive and both the quality and quantity of the food we received provided a great value. We'll definitely return! Great upscale French Bistro concept."

  • "The food here is amazing. The portions are a good size and the wait staff is very attentive. We will definitely come back here for another meal."

  • "Came here for Restaurant Week and had a wonderful experience! The steak that they had on the menu was to die for! Overall, I had a great dining experience and would definitely recommend!"

  • "Went to Brabo during Restaurant Week. While the food served was very good, I was disappointed with the selection. The Restaurant Week menu only had two selections for each course - not enough options. For the main course, if you didn't want to try skate, your only choice was hanger steak. If you order off the regular menu, be prepared to spend some money. The wine is very expensive too. Happy hour at the bar is a good deal, but it ends at 6:30."

  • "Had a lovely time with a large group - food was excellent as always. Service not as great as it has been in the past. Will go again, but pretty expensive; so only special occasions."

  • "I went to eat at Brabo's after having been to his flagship restaurant Marcel's and to Brasserie Beck. Of course, Marcel's was excellent, but I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food at Brabo's. I had the halibut and thought it was very, very good. The flavor was really surprising. Also had a chocolate dessert that was very good. For me, the only negative is the over-inflated wine prices. Other than that, I could not recommend it more highly."

  • "Sensible portions, expertly prepared and carefully served. My favorite place to eat in Alexandria."
    Dined on 8/5/2014
  • "But food was very sub par. The restaurant itself is nice and service was good, but it's the food you go for after all and it was pretentious without being able to walk the walk. Dessert was a joke. How can you list something as a coconut custard and then serve two squares of the size of postage stamp? The real chefs must have had the night off."

  • "Brabo is a hidden gem in Old Town. The food is creative, beautifully presented and delicious. The service was charming - helpful but not intrusive. I've enjoyed every meal I've had here and recommend it highly."
    Dined on 8/3/2014
  • "The menu change has made Brabo just like several other restaurants in the Old Town area!"

  • "With food this good, one can forgive pretty much everything else. There are definitely drawbacks when you go to the "hotel restaurant". White tablecloth, but guests in tank tops and flip flops. Less than efficient valet parking, but thankfully there is valet parking, otherwise good luck searching for the more than 2-hour street parking in Old Town. But then again, we came for food and food we got, it was wonderful, creative and very satisfying!"

  • "other than a surly hostess we had a wonderful meal, I had the suckling pig and my wife had the pork loin, plus a beautifully prepared and presented dessert, excellent wine list,"

  • "Food tasted good but very heavy; I could see a pat of butter under my grouper, and the veggies were drowning in a massive amount of oil. While service was okay overall the waiter, who had a serious 'tude, rubbed us the wrong way. I asked for a glass of Pino Grigio and he basically turned his nose up at me, indicating Brabo was way too high end to serve that, and they had none on the menu. Mind you, we stayed at the Lorien which was has the same owner, was 20 feet away from where we dined and had just 10 minutes earlier served me a glass. The attitudinal waiter also suggested fine dining couldn't be done without massive amounts of butter and oil which is just ridiculous."

  • "Food was good but not memorable. Service was okay. Expensive food but there's better and more memorable places for less. Location is prime, just wished the food wasn't so bland."
    Dined on 7/23/2014
  • "The food was wonderful - but the noise from the bar was too loud and the acoustics in the restaurant are awful. I could hear the woman sitting across the room from me better than I could hear my husband from across the table. Unfortunately this really did detract from the ambiance of our anniversary dinner."

  • "Food is excellent with very knowledgeable and friendly service"

  • "Excellent food and wine! Hassan is the best waiter on the planet! Will go here every time I come home to visit the D.C. area."

  • "We went on a Sunday evening, spur of the moment, and it was one of our best experiences at Brabo because it wasn't crowded like it usually is at night; we were able to have a conversation without raising our voices -- not always the case at Brabo. The service and food were excellent. They willingly split an appetizer and salad in the kitchen for us which we appreciated. Brabo is one of our favorite restaurants and we will definitely go back again."

  • "Brabo is hands-down our favorite restaurant in NoVA. The food is always delicious, the preparations interesting, and the presentation excellent. Service is the best around, with knowledgeable, friendly, and (if you want) fun staff."
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "I thought the food was on the ordinary side. they had a bottle of wine for $2200. I can't imagine what dish would be deserving of being paired with that wine. found restaurant to be more pretentious than really good."
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "our dishes were all too salty when we ate there for dinner. i wouldnt go back for dinner unless it was for the valentines set menu. otherwise go there for brunch. they have the best brunch in alexandria. we tried the pig roulade which was dry duo lamb which was salty scallops which was salty kids got a burger which was good fries was way too salty as well"
    Dined on 7/13/2014
  • "Food was very good but pricey for what you get. The service left a lot to be desired given the prices. The waiter was very slow in taking our orders. He knocked over a lamp that was at the center of the table. His overall attitude suggested that he was made for better things than serving our table. He conveniently did not see my obvious efforts to flag him so he could bring a spoon to the table for my friend. He should have brought the spoon when he served my friend. He really detracted from the overall experience."
