Diner Reviews
  • "One has to dine at the Fairmont in Banff where you can enjoy a view of the fantastic Canadian Rockies while being pampered by first-class service and very good food. The waiter even went out of his way to get a bottle of wine from the bar that was not on the restaurant wine list. The bar service and bartender were great also. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening."

  • "I recently enjoyed the breakfast buffet at this location. The price was somewhat steep, but you do get what you pay for! Lots of good food and very good service! I only wish the dessert section was a little more "wow". But nothing major to complain about. But be ready, if you want a quiet brunch this may not be the place, lots of families an a very energetic atmosphere. Children had their own buffet table that was lowered to their hight with all the kid classics on it, but still very tasty, super cute! Oh! and get the orange juice if you can, very fresh and delicious. All in all, a very fun and lavish way to start your day in banff!"

  • "Went here for Fathers Day dinner. The steak was very good. My dad who had salmon thought it wasn't that good. My husband didn't enjoy the roasted chicken. Our server was not as friendly as we would have liked. Did not recommend anything, did not offer a refill for people who got pop. Our food took a long time to come. Not sure if I'd go back for dinner but maybe I'd try their brunch."

  • "Wonderfully prepared food with excellent service and attention to detail. Every mom was presented with a colorful gerbera daisy and there was face painting and coloring for the kids in a separate quieter area. And of course you can't beat the view! "

  • "Definitely an awesome place. This will be an annual event for our family for sure!"

  • "Outstanding brunch in the majestic Rocky Mountains. We enjoyed a delicious variety of brunch buffet items while admiring a spectacular view of the mountains. The "Castle" is always an excellent place to stay and dine, especially the Bow Valley Grill. "

  • "My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our late lunch here on the first Saturday in April. We were at the end of a great trip to southeastern British Columbia and Banff and stopped here on our drive from Fairmont Hot Springs, BC, back to Calgary. We were so impressed by the superb quality and extensive variety of entrees, fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, salads, chilled and warm appetizers, breads and desserts. The venison stew, beef medallions, grilled fish, and poultry dishes were superb. Our table by one of the huge windows afforded magnificent views of the mountains. We felt at home and were very comfortable. The service was excellent."

  • "I've had my share of brunches from cruise ships to 5 star hotels. The Fairmont's Easter Brunch is top of the list- excellent array of tasty foods for every palate, separate kid's area complete with free face painting. Carved ham and beef, lots of salads, outstanding seafood including smoked salmon and shrimp plus an endless desserts. All beautifully displayed- chocolate easter bunnies, bunny shaped breads, real Easter eggs on each table, etc. Service was also top notch- I had to wait for my partner's daughter to get her face painted, so our hostess came over and asked if I would like coffee. She promptly brought it to me. We've decided to make this an annual event- not to be missed. Oh and did I mention the chocolate fountain? "

  • "We've enjoyed brunch here many times, but this time was a disappointment. We were put in an infrequently used room with leftover tables and banquet chairs. Were never offered a wine/mimosa menu. Coffee was refilled only when asked for, coffee grounds in cup were just ignored, cup not replaced. Hot foods were all cold, although tasted good otherwise. Perhaps best to go on a regular Sunday, not on a special one."

  • "Compared with all other dining experiences locally this is the best in every way and also the best value for money for the super surroundings and wonderful food."

  • "Needing a last minute reservation on a Friday night for three, this place was the only one with availability at the Fairmont. That tells you something. The restaurant is large, LARGE. We were greeted warmly and the service was friendly. Not fine dining by any standards but comfortable. The good was a tad on the $$ side for what you got, but they tried. We tried the seasonal menu and wine pairing ($85/pp). The pairings were great (the wine portions) and the price was equivalent to what you could order from the main menu anyway. We liked our meals, but there was nothing exceptional about them. I would only go back if we were ago without plans on a busy evening. I won't remember what I ate here in a day or so."

  • "Brunch here is worth the drive and the money - incredients are top notch, servers are friendly and welcoming and un-pretentious given the pomp that often surrounds the springs. The views are hard to beat as is the choice and quality of the buffet. I have to remind myself to do a walk through and resist the urge to pile up a full plate at the first station. The salad station is really well done with fresh ingredients (the pesto boccaccini is amazing) and beyond that the warm food stations are delicious - the meatballs and curry dishes are beyond good. Having brunch here with a couple of mimosas, overlooking the mountains with some good company is a pretty great way to start a day."

  • "We have eaten at the Bow Valley Grill many times and absolutely love their buffet, which is not always available. After having made reservations online for Valentine's Day, we got a call telling us that it would be a buffet that evening and wondering if it would be okay with us. We were thrilled! And we were not the least bit disappointed. Everything was first rate!"

  • "The New Year's buffet dinner was full of delicious food selections, and the service was excellent. Our wine glasses were never empty!"

  • "Ideally, our reservation would have included a note that it was a buffet over the holidays and not the a la carte menu provided on the website. Since we had already arrived, we chose to stay and for a buffet, the food was good. We especially liked the stir-fry/fresh pasta station, so we could get made to order and hot food. Families with children will love this option for holiday meals, with lots of excellent choices for kids."

  • "The buffet was excellent. Great choices, something for everyone. All foods cooked to perfection. Be prepared to "pig out", don't be shy, you probably won't find a selection like this anywhere else."

  • "For the dollar value we felt it feel short on quality . The selections of meat was fine but one only style of potatoe. Grilled vegetables undercooked. Not satisfied with the desert selection at all."

  • "I look forward to dining 'Bow, but my last visit will be my last time for dinner there. I had a special gathering of friends in Banff, booked about 2 months ahead of time, but we were given a string of tables that curved away from each other and sat in separate tables of 4. It was awkward, we couldn't converse easily and it killed the atmosphere for us. Our server was unseen, unorganized; drinks weren't topped, our dishes were piled up on our table and we had to ask several times for everything. My wife's meal was completely missed. In the end they charged us the group rate gratuity of 18% despite being sat separately & very poor service. The food was great, the amateur service killed the experience. Go for brunch buffet self-serve"

  • "We had dined here in October, 2012 and I don't think overall that the food was as good as then. I had the Trout and I did not care for the watery sauce. Also, we had an awesome starter last time - Mussels with Cilanto and it was to die for. That item is no longer on the menu. On the positive side, the service was outstanding and attention to detail was perfect. Of course you can't beat the scenery and the ambience. The pumpkin pie cheese cake which I had for dessert was very good and my husband said his steak was very good. I would return to the Bow Valley Grill for another dining experience."

  • "We had made a reservation for the Bow River Grill but upon arrival was told that there was a private function and we weren't able to eat there. However, they sat us in the Rundle Lounge which offered gorgeous views of the mountains all around us."

  • "For a higher end place, they certainly had trouble making decent eggs benny! we sent them back a couple of times for overcooked(hard) egg yolks! and the ham was overcooked as well. very disappointed. on a better note our server was awesome and brought us a special desert plate out when we told her it was for our anniversary! overall though, not as good as it used to be - and we have gone 1-2 times a year for 21 years!! may be our last :("

  • "I haven't been to Banff Springs Hotel in years for the weekend buffet and always remembered how good the food was, amazing actually. But, this time it was horrible - food tasted like it had been sitting out for hours and wasn't that appetizing. For the amount you pay the food should be stellar. Highly doubt I will return again. Our server was great - very attentive and also liked to make small conversation, which is always nice."
