Diner Reviews
  • "we had a nice visit. too hot to sit on the patio. food and service were good but not memorable. Did not have the clams I had hoped for"

  • "This is a great neighborhood restaurant. The vibe is cool but not sceney and the food is really inventive and excellent. Great cocktails and the service was friendly but not intrusive. Another great thing about this restaurant is that you can bring your dog. I haven't tried it but when I was there for dinner, there were several diners who had their dogs with them. If you want to sit outside, make sure you indicate this on Open Table or when you call. I had assumed we could sit outside when I reserved and even though most tables were free when we arrived, the hostess said they were reserved for people who asked for outside so we had to sit inside. At least they honor requests."

  • "We enjoyed the food very much ! very creative ! the paella was amazing !!"

  • "The servers were great. The new menu had some great selections. We did miss the shrimp with the cheesy grits, I think it was Shrimp Romesco, from the old menu. That was a very special dish and we'd love to see it come back. The Sea Food Paella was excellent and a real highlight. My Old Fashioned with Buffalo Trace was made perfectly as was your Sangria."

  • "I love Bow and Truss, but everything we tried on the new menu was so SALTY! The Clams were delicious, but broth really salty. I think the food would be very good if salt is toned down. Patio is lovely!"

  • "First don't order the ceviche unless you like hot avocado. They need to specify on menu I order it and my girlfriend hates avocado. Food was ok but tacos were cold when they got to the table. Table for two are extremely small so get a booth. Overall I was disappointed I was place on a table near the register where I could here the employees talking about there personal life . I won't be going back unless it's for a beer. The bill was like $60 I rather go to Bj's you get your $ worth!!"

  • "The food was unusual and delicious. Outdoor dining that provides privacy."

  • "Although the menu is small, there is a great variety of choices. The lamb tacos and beet burratta salad were outstanding. We also loved the paella del mar and citrus salad. All of us got different cocktails that we're delicious. The service was excellent. a good choice to celebrate a birthday!"

  • "There are lots of great dishes to try and the setting is a lovely outdoor area with couches and coffee tables in addition to traditional dining tables. Each plate is three portions so groups of three or six are ideal. The service is friendly and helpful, if not completely well trained. On two occasions it took more than 10 minutes and a little begging to get more water, but it's well worth it for the yummy bites. "

  • "I found their menu to be full of great flavors that intermingled well. For a party of four, we ordered about six or so plates and shared everything. It was a great meal. They also had some additional interesting beers on the menu and we tried "several.""

  • "If you enjoy food with a little kick (Brava Butter and bread!!) and a great hang out with young energy this place is for you!! Very vibrant place with excellent pork cheek tacos (Keep them coming) and great beer selection. Excellent wine (root 1) fruity u front and no bitter oak aftertaste. We will be back."

  • "Nice Friday night place to meet friends with good food and drinks. Not too noisy nor over run with children is a good neighborhood place. Nice bar good cocktails. Small plates which can be annoying with a group were rightly sized for four to share. Creamiest bacala I've ever had - a good unique presentation."

  • "Great time! Very good food and spectacular service. I liked the decor. My complaint: the kitchen is open & for the majority of the meal - I had a tickle in my throat, because of whatever the kitchen was making. It got smokey and both me and my guest instantly started coughing. It was very distracting and took away from the whole experience. That smokiness never subsided. I will not eat inside the restaurant again - if I do go back. Another complaint, I called and asked about parking, and all I was told "sorry, street parking only, but you don't have to pay the meters after 6pm" I found a street spot, and walked about 2 blocks, only to find there was a valet! I would have preferred that, had I been informed."

  • "Having heard good things about this restaurant, I was disappointed. The appetizers were tasty (particularly the mini-tacos), but the entree (paella) was awful. The rice in the dish was so overcooked that it stuck to the pan like a gelatinous mess. The servers were friendly and nice, but not very good. Twice they brought the wrong food to our table, as though they had all their table numbers confused. We sat outside. The patio is a very pleasant space, but it was a chilly evening. We asked to have the heat lamps turned on, but that took twenty minutes and then one of the two lamps didn't work anyway. The space, inside and out, is really attractive. But the experience overall was really disappointing. I'm not going back."

  • "This is the fourth time I've been here, and the small plates are great. This time we were six, and the best choices were the shrimp ceviche and the fig bread. The only disappointments have been the desserts. They sound interesting and look good but are not very tasty."
    Dined on 4/24/2014
  • "Even though it's a little bit overpriced, I loved everything about this place. "

  • "I had my birthday here, and ever since then I haven't been able to get enough. The beef and cheek pork tacos are amazing."

  • "I'd been several times for lunch but this was my first time for dinner. The food was stunning, the wine was delicious, and the prices were very reasonable. The theme is tapas, spanish small plates, but they also have larger plates and paellas which are meant to be shared as well. We had romanesco, salted codfish, and porkbelly tapas, all of which were exceptionally flavorful and just big enough for everyone to have a bite. We shared a seafood paella, one of three paellas offered, it was also very good. The paellas come in 2 sizes, the smaller size was appreciated after the tapas. We shared a bottle of Tempranillo that was a perfect pairing to the meal. This is one of the best restaurants in North Hollywood in my opinion. We'll be back!!!"

  • "The lamb and fish tacos were terrific as was the salmon main course. Paella was skimpy on the fish and the rice was grade2/4 spicy but somewhat dry. Ceviche was also very good with Fried Avacado!"
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "New menu is not as good. Pork tacos was the best item we had. Haddock tacos was great the last time I had it -- fish was nice and crispy. This time, it was soggy, like it was fried some time ago and sat before it was served. Yuck. Bacon wrapped shrimp is not really shrimp -- it's more like a shrimp cake, which is good, but it's not shrimp. Ceviche was WAY too much citrus and not enough other flavors. Mary's chicken was just one chicken breast that was pan roasted, over greens and small roasted potatoes and some kind of sauce. Everything was over-salted, and the chicken was overcooked. A nice place to get a drink and the pork tacos."

  • "Ok, so once they divided the charcutterie boards, they changed the menu, and the place got so trendy that all waiters and waitresses have the over-confident attitude, I don't need to go back..."

  • "Apparently, there have been significant changes at Bow & Truss over the past couple of months. New "kitchen", new menu, new management. The good news is, the food is still very good--the bad news is, a couple of favorites disappeared (octopus salad & shrimp with polenta). The best news is that the paella (although also different) is still excellent. Service on the patio was a bit spotty--we never got a refill on water for example. As always, staff was friendly."

  • "Paella was a tad overcooked. We enjoy the experience so much, we'll try again!"
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "Ordered the scallop, salmon, shrimp paella. Received a medium size plate with only one scallop. Expected a larger plate of paella for the $26 price. Paella was too spicy, but no indication of spiciness on the menu. We had to ask another server for water not only because it was so spicy, but also bc our server disappeared for a while."

  • "This place is great. It's the third time my fiancee and I have been here and it is wonderful. The food is delicious and the selection always seems to vary. They have portions that are sharable as well as entrees; and, they have a very good selection of wines. We love it and will return because it's so good. You will too."

  • "Reservations went smoothly. Arrived and got seated right away. Loved that they had a set menu in addition to the regular menu. The service was great, food was good, and ambiance was awesome. Overall, great experience and will look forward to coming back in future."

  • "No long review. Really liked this restaurant similar to a tapas restaurant with larger dishes and portions. I had the paella and it was excellent. Cooked to perfection with carmalized rice. Highly recommended!!! Great atmosphere, food and service all top notch. I'm going back for more!"

  • "We've been to Bow & Truss several times now, and each meal has been delicious. The menu seems ever-changing, so there's no telling what's going to be on offer from one visit to the next but it's been tasty every time. My favorites have included the Beet Salad, the Ceviche, the Cheese Plate (Blue Picon is my new all-time favorite cheese!), and you can't go wrong with any of their Paellas. The desserts are also noteworthy, particularly on our most recent visit: the three of us shared the Milk & Cookies and the Turon - don't let the simplicity of the names fool you, these were molecular gastronomy at its best! The service is unfailingly friendly, and the later-than-usual hours convenient. We always look forward to our meals at Bow & Truss!"

  • "We have been to Bow and Truss on numerous occasions but haven't been in a few months. This past weekend we took a group of friends to brag about our favorite spot. We noticed that the menu changed and when we asked our server, she mentioned that a new chef had taken over in the past two weeks. Our favorite food item had been the mushroom tacos which were still on the menu but the recipe had been changed and not for the better. My friend ordered the fillet tacos and sent them back because they were cold, twice. We wanted to order the meat and cheese plate but discovered that now they were separate plates. We decided to go ahead and just order the cheese plate which was piled with pieces of bread and very little cheese."

  • "I was upset that even although it was cold outside the restaurant did not have seating inside. Both main courses were not served together!!! The server should have recommended an appetizer with drinks. When I spoke to one of the hosts about having a party his reply was well you know weekends are busy!!! Really, not so much if you don't improve."

  • "I sat down by myself for brunch, around 1:15 pm. Quickly ordered a salad and some hot tea. Tea came out immediately. The salad? The took 40 minutes and several attempts at me trying to get the bartender to locate my salad. That's just plain bad service. I was embarrassed for them. Not sure I'll be returning."

  • "We had been waiting to try Bow and Truss for a long time. But, I have to say, we were sadly disappointed. The waitress was very nice and pleasant, and she recommended items on the menu. However, she was making these recommendations based on the availability of certain dishes. When my husband went to order the shrimp tacos, the waitress said they were out. When I went to order the Pozole, it, too, was sold out. Because we wanted to sample EVERY Spanish cheese offered, we ordered the Cheese and Charcuterie plate plus the five cheese plate to ensure that we would get to sample everything offered. This wasn't communicated to the kitchen, and we were given double manchego cheese and they were out of one of the cheeses. Very disappointed."

  • "B&T has changed its menu and eliminated some of my favorite items. No more empanadas, for example, and no tres leches cake (although they may just have been out of the latter). So this time was somewhat disappointing."
    Dined on 1/25/2014
  • "The food was on a whole disappointing. The corn on the cob-though warned was way to spicy and I like spice. The paella was just so so so. The space is very cool with a nice open area and vibrant indoor and outdoor bar."
