Diner Reviews
  • "The name of the restaurant and how they advertise themselves is surprisingly NOT an indicator of what you will find upon arrival. The atmosphere, aside from the live jazz band, did not feel like New Orleans, nor did they have anything on the menu that you would find in New Orleans. The food was fine, but I expected an entirely different experience than the one I got."

  • "The restaurant is no longer Nola's. They are accepting reservations in the name of Nola's but they are called Bourbon. I was totally disappointed to get to the restaurant and find out that it was not Nola's. We did not stay because our expectation was to eat at Nola's. They need to change it and stop misleading people into believing that they are going to Nola's."

  • "Took friends from out of town, they really really enjoyed. Food was tasty. Were out of a few items but that was ok. Remodeling place and found they will be under new mangement and have a new name."

  • "As creole food and live music lovers, we were pretty excited to check out NOLA's on Friday night. Imagine our disappointment when we didn't get either one of those things. While our server was extremely nice, it seemed like he scratched half the menu off before we even sat down. Then, when we finally ordered, it took 20 minutes before he came back to tell us that they actually didn't have the Jambalaya we ordered, either. We wound up splitting a Caesar salad and some decent but entirely straightforward fried chicken- not exactly a Cajun experience. The bill still somehow came out to $80 (one round of cocktails, one round of beers, one salad & one entree), though they were nice enough to throw in dessert. And no live music. Bummer."

  • "Although it was pretty hard to find, when I finally arrived at Nolas for my mothers surprise dinner party I was in love! The music was great! The food was AMAZING and the cocktails were EVERYTHING!!! My family and I had a wonderful time and definitely plan on returning!"

  • "We were the only patrons for a lunch, the fried chicken was great, but the rest of the food fair. I understand they have a great brunch"

  • "This place is a neighborhood gem! Awesome food, awesome band. But they don't have enough servers to cover the brunch so there is a lot of waiting."

  • "The hamburger had 2 very greasy paddies and the beef was not great quality. I've had the fried chicken their and like it but they need to carry better beef."

  • "My husband and I were so excited about going to Nola's but unfortunately, it was a big let down. The restaurant was extremely small, our table was so wobbly that everytime we hit it our drinks spilled over! The place so dark we had a hard time reading the menus! Nola's is known for their live jazz music --- well they did not have any! The food was good & very tasty. However, after they brought us the appetizer they took 1 hour to bring out our entrees!!! One full hour! We had reservations for a movie and could not make it. Nola's was a complete disappointment!! Around 9ish the restaurant becomes a nightclub. It felt like they were rushing us to eat so they can take down the tables. BTW --- parking is a mess!"

  • "I made reservations for this place on Wednesday. The reservation was for Saturday. When I made it to the place I was told my reservation was not in the system. And I had only 30 mins to eat. Before the kitchen close for the club. Never again will I go back to this place."

  • "The food was just ok, not really good. Tip make the buffet more appetizing and have more options. Band was great, too loud at times so you won't really be able to chat with your company but they were very entertaining."

  • "I loved everything except the collard greens. The gumbo was great, the macaroni and cheese--tasty, hurricane--strong!!! Lol I will definitely go back, I loved the ambiance! They had a great music and tasty/well-seasoned for which is not easy to come by in LA where so much of the food is bland & supposed to be healthy. Perfect for an east coaster who is from below the Mason-Dixon ;)"

  • "Make a a RSVP for 8:00 pm did not get served until 9;10 the salad came after the food, the food was cold. Over priced! But the place is really nice...when they get it together it will be a great dining experience."

  • "What a find. Heard about it for a while, and was happy to find a reservation on Valentine's Day which is also my wife's birthday. The buffet was really tasty, the drinks great, the music was outstanding. It's a place we'll be happy to go back again and again."

  • "What a disappointment - buffet format changed so that catfish & fried chicken are an extra charge ranging from $2.50-$9. Food OK, except the jambalaya was room temp & almost no sausage or chicken, gumbo pan empty except for sauce left, & new tofu gumbo was just not right. Also, women's restroom was in serious state of disrepair & so dark I couldn't make out my face in the mirror. I'm OK with rustic but it was just dilapidated. The look of the restaurant in general now smacks of neglect - boxes stacked by buffet, table legs bolstered by cardboard, group of stools haphazardly placed in a corner of the bar. I hope that management makes some changes, because I really liked this place -- I'm rooting for it to succeed. The waitress is wonderful."

  • "I ordered the sampler platter which included red beans/rice, étouffée, seafood gumbo and jambalaya, which all I loved!! The étouffée and gumbo were my favorite. We also ordered the fried shrimp and calamari for appetizers which were also great! Their dressing was some kind of citrus dressing which I had to pass but everything else was so good that I didn't care. The appetizers also come with French fries which I don't normally eat but they were really good..seasoned just right. Oh yeah, I almost forgot about the mini cornbreads with Apple butter which they give you to start off, which sold me on the food already lol. The service was also great. My girlfriends and I are already talking about going back again with or without the groupon :)"

  • "Nola's is a gem in downtown Los Angeles. The courses were delightful and felt like good old down home cooking. Catfish and southern sides like collard greens and mac & cheese were heavenly! Loved it!"

  • "Dinner with a friend just made better by the drinks (loved the Sazerac), food and service! Excellent popcorn shrimp, light and crunchy. Sea bass and ribeye steak were yummy and the bread pudding took it over the top."

  • "Food is great went 3 times in 22 days but the choice of music (D J ) techno music blaring is not conducive to dining I thought a New Orleans themed Resturant would have Jazz And my first visit did but New Years Eve was loud D J Music I thought that was just for NYE but our last visit had the same mind numbing heavy base music via a D J ,who seemed to be the only one enjoying said music I would be reluctant to revisit this resturant because of the Choice of background music which is a shame since the food is so good"

  • "The best thing I can say about this place is that the entire staff was friendly and accommodating. The breakfast sausage was pretty good. They offered fried catfish nuggets which had minimal seasoning but at least I could eat it without something to dip it in. The fried chicken was the biggest disappointment of them all. It was bland. It tasted like they used nothing to season it and I used hot sauce to help try and make it tasty before just giving up. To me, the waffle was sweet like Roscoe's and the bacon was super delicious. it tasted sweet also, like it was glazed in maple or something."

  • "My experience at Nola's was okay. The selction of food was not what I expected. The chicken was bland and the Gumbo was not too tasty along with the other selcetion of food. For the price, there should be more seafood and some desserts. I drank Mimosas more than I ate. I do not think I will return or refer anyone to Nola's."

  • "My only issue with this place is I had a hard time finding it - even with GPS. It's downtown, amongst various one way streets. My GPS failed me. I was in the neighborhood and lost for 20 minutes trying to find the place. Once I did, I was able to valet and meet my party. So, it all worked out but it was definitely a frustrating experience."

  • "At lunchtime, there was one person doing everything from mixing drinks, to waiting tables, too long a wait. No snacks on table while waiting. Waiter was very distracted trying to do everything. Food mediocre. Seems to be more of a night venue."

  • "There's nothing in this place that is reminiscent of true New Orleans but the food was good, the waitstaff was great, and their business practices are truly aboveboard."

  • "Never did go , could not get a return confirmation from Nolas Restaurant , one of their staff ask to hold when I call , never did come back to the phone , when I trying to confirm reservations. I call a number of times during the day line was always busy, finally I call the operator she confirmed phone was not on the receiver , very poor customer service when it comes to phone service. I also email owner/manager of Nolas. Thank You Larry Williams"

  • "I was expecting a live jazz band and some enjoyable listening but alas there was a dejay playing way loud music. Would not have made this reservation had I known. (I should have called first). Service was not outstanding due to a large and loud birthday party group but service was friendly and apologetic. My cocktail was very good! Food was plentiful and quite good."

  • "Great vibe, celebrating moms b-day so there was an older crowd mixed with family, No live band on Sundays, but the soundtrack playing was perfect.. Food was fair considering the specialty of cajun style made in LA (Note: I am from the South and have had really great cajun food) But this might be prefect for someone who doesn't eat ethnic food too often. Pricing was a bit much, again for fair grade food. The drinks were nice, short but plentiful drink menu with real New Orleans style drinks. Lastly, parking? Luckily there were a couple of spots on the street."

  • "The service and ambience was nice, but they clearly need to hire some experienced staff who really know hoe to deliver the New Orleans taste. The food (with exception to the fried catfish) was horrible. The food was fresh, but the taste was off."

  • "I ordered the Sea Bass. It was tasty but there was some sandwich-type spread on it that I had to scrape off. Also, my rice was cold."

  • "My friend and I enjoyed the ambiance and the excellent service. The food tasted so fresh and the attention to service and details was every where. The jazz band was a major bonus to a romantic night to impress my guy. He loved every moment of it. We definitely would recommend this venue to friends and families. The next day I was bragging to my girlfriends and colleagues. It's a place to be enchanted by, to be romanced at while good jazz is plugged to the soul.."
