Diner Reviews
  • "Excellent value during Dine LA restaurant week. Even though the steak offered was "Bavette" which sounds vaguely like a lesser cut of meat, it was absolutely delicious. The complimentary amuse bouche of fries trio is killer, as is the truffle butter bread. I am a HUGE fan of Stripsteak in Las Vegas, and it's SO WONDERFUL to have a Michael Mina steak house in town now. It's not super creative food, but it is comfort food done so incredibly well. Beautiful restaurant, attentive service from all sides, and lovely live piano playing."

  • "The food was not very good - They need to step it up for the prices they are charging - The cocktails and wine list are great but the food the last two times we have eaten there was too salty and the fish was dry -"

  • "The steak was tough it was inedible. The English Pea Agnolotti with Maine Lobster? You needed electron microscope to find few shreds of lobster. The sauce was inedible."

  • "This is my first time at a Michael Mina restaurant. I took the opportunity to visit there during dineLA week. I had a shrimp and corn soup, steak and vanilla custard. The soup was delicious. I almost lifted the bowl so I could lick the bottom of it. The skirt steak was good albeit a little too rare. Everyone at our table asked for medium rare steak and we all got rare steak. The vanilla custard was HEAVENLY. I would go back and pay full price for the custard! I also had a cocktail: darker and stormier. It was very 'meh' in my opinion. Too bad. The food program way surpasses their cocktail program. The service was just mediocre and very slow. I won't recommend this place if you are in a hurry."

  • "I loved the place as soon as we walked in, everyone were so polite. I had a stomach ache from the oysters about 15 mins after eating them. I orders the garlic serloin med-rare it was pretty dry and I wasn't a fan of the baked potatoes and asparagus. I don't think I would recommend those items"

  • "A superb restaurant at the Americana is finally in form with delightful dishes, hearty enough to satisfy the most discerning and demandable taste. Great bar and wine list, very kid friendly, and an attentive and relentless service, makes Bourbon Steak an obligatory place in LA for dining. I recommend without reservations."

  • "This restaurant has a smart, uptown design with an eye to detail and comfort while dining. The menu is equally precise and concise. If you like to eat meat, from chefs that know how to prepare it, Bourbon Steak deserves attention. The focus on fewer, well-prepared starters, main courses and sides pays off in the attention to quality, preparation and great taste. The service is wonderful! Repeat, the service is wonderful! Is it expensive? Yes, but that's the price of well-informed servers, a sophisticated sommelier, and the staff that supports them. This is in my neighborhood and I'd rather go here several times a month than to a lesser restaurant more frequently. Very nice wine selection with a page hosting esoteric and interesting finds."

  • "We eat at great restaurants a lot. I was looking forward to finding a new great steakhouse. We were all disappointed. The food was ok-not great - and I had their filet. Wine was a great selection, but really really overpriced. The service was slightly better (friendly and attentive), but the kitchen forgot one of our sides and they made excuses rather than just admit it. When it finally came (roughly in time for dessert) we got a weak apology but no offer to take it back or comp it. Dessert was great but a tad rich. And to top it off, all three of us felt a little quesy the next day. The bill, on the other hand, was one of the most expensive we've had in the past year. Made the Arroyo Chop House look like a bargain"

  • "I love a meal with lots of, "Umm"s, "So delicious", and "Best steak I've ever had!". Heard all this and more at our dinner for four. And or servers where over the top! A real treat."

  • "It was a great 1st time expereince dining at Bourbon. Attention to details is excellent. Tony, our serve was great in explaining the menu with so much knowledge, enthusiasm and pride about the restaurant and their product. We will definitely be back!"

  • "The food was decent, but for the price maybe not that special. It was worth a try, but probably won't go back anytime soon. For that price, I rather dine at Ruth's Chris or Morton's."

  • "The staff was friendly, knowledgable and provided good service. Small touches like complimentary gourmet french fries were delicious and appreciated, however, when it came to the reason one goes to a fine steakhouse it was a big let down. I've eaten a lot of steaks and the high bar remains Del Friscos or Bern's in Tampa. I ordered the dry aged, Rib Eye, med rare and this is the first time I've ever had to send a steak back to the kitchen. I appreciate the skills required when handling an expensive cut of meat, so I would say the kitchen staff needs more experience. Even if the steak had been cooked to perfection, it still lacked flavor and had unexpected gristle. Too bad because I was hoping this would be "the" place to find a great steak."

  • "I was excited that Michael Mina opened a new restaurant. The menu is not exciting and the food was not up to par with his other restaurants. Our steak was nothing to write home about and that's disappointing for a Steak House. I miss his old restaurant XIV."

  • "Bourbon Steak has elevated the art of tableside preparations. The Bourbon cart is a fun way to kick things off, and we also enjoyed the tuna tartare and candy cart. The staff is warm and genuine, which makes the carts even more fun! Enjoy!"

  • "Please replace the pop/techno/hip-hop music with something more dignified. Partway into our brunch a large family came in and their noisy kids ran around the dining area and climbed into unoccupied booths touching plates, glasses and silverware. There seemed to be no response from management save turning up the music. This detracted from the lovely meal, service and terrific wine list."

  • "Service is great! Took my family and they enjoyed it. Menu is good. The steaks are alright but I had better steaks from other steakhouses but overall well rounded menu including dessert."

  • "Just opened a few months now...but just as one would expect from the Michael Mina restaurants, it was Fabulous! My besties and I started with the the wonderful Bloody Mary cart. For our appetizers we decided on the Taylor bay oysters & Michael's caviar parfait! Yummy! For our main entree we all had the Bourbon Steak Burger...Delicious! Ate everything! The service was spectacular! Our server was very attentive. I will be back and bring the hubby for dinner."

  • "First of all the restaurant design is just beautiful. Service is OUTSTANDING. Really outstanding. And the food...was ooo la la. An amuse from the chef when we were there were 3 kinds of shoestring fries, with 3 gourmet sauces. Our favorite was the dill pickle. Very fun. We had one of the cozy semi-circle booths next to the piano player. It was very romantic. Both our entrees were cooked to perfection: beef filet for me and lamb chops for my beau. The wine list is huge, I found one of my favorite wine makers: Turley, but don't be intimidated if you don't know what to choose, there is a sommelier to help you. Tip: do the Americana valet parking. With validation from the restaurant, it was free (if less than 2 hours I believe.)"

  • "While the atmosphere was lovely, the waiter was very friendly but it was an absolute rip off. Portions were small to almost non-existent for the salads and the entree's were awfully small. It was ridiculously expensive. The food was decent but nothing to write home about. Very disappointed. Don't waste your $. I left hungry. There are too many other decent restaurants (where you don't leave hungry). Again, beautiful ambiance, very attentive wait staff but not the place to go for a decent value. We were there for lunch - maybe dinner is different. Won't be going back."

  • "Steak was perfect and delicious. Black truffle Mac and cheese is pretty amazing. Service is very good with many people to help. Almost chaotic but still very good. Drinks are very good, too. Only miss and something I'd never get again was the chilled king crab starter. So expensive, so small and just a disappointment."

  • "Lot of energy in the room. Had to almost shout across table to be heard. Entrees prepared beautifully, starters some great (Heirloom tomatoes), others not so great (grilled octopus,) same with sides we tried (crispy baked potato - fantastic.) First-rate steakhouse with a dependable bar staff."

  • "Went for a nice celebratory steak and were wow'd by the service and great food. Brought a bottle to cork and wasn't sure the wine was up to par, Sommelier was kind enough to taste and suggest it's a bit green and to let it stand for a day. She suggested a great pairing wine for our steak and waived cork fee. Waiter was great with a wealth of knowledge. The flat iron and fillet were perfect as was the creamed spinach. Highly recommend this place."

  • "My husband and I went here for our Wedding Anniversary. It was our first time at Bourbon Steak. When I made the reservation, I mentioned in the special notes that it was our anniversary. When we arrived, the hostess walked us over to a nice corner booth that had been reserved for us. On the table was an envelope that read " Happy Anniversary". Inside was an anniversary card that was signed by all of the staff. We thought that this was a very warm and thoughtful gesture. The place was decorated very nicely. An old Hollywood glamour type of vibe. Our server, Natasha, was fantastic. She was friendly, prompt, helpful and had lots of great travel advice to offer (she is from Australia). The drinks were delicious. The food was tasty. Will be back"

  • "Now that steak houses like Morton's, Mastro's and most others have gone the inpersonal corporate route it was refreshing to find Bourbon. The steaks, Wagu & Black Angus, rate a 5 plus, as do the duck fat fries & dinner rolls but, we found the sides & starters were limited an boring. The food quality, preparation & presentation were all excellent although the captain demonstrated a lack of knowledge when queried about the butter poaching Chef Mina is known for, (it compliments the rich taste of the steak). We will definitely return."

  • "Frankly, the food us alright, but too expensive for the taste and quality. The lobster pot pie was disappointing, especially given it's price point at $70.00. Kale salad was very good, and signature root beer float is not to be missed."
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "I'm not snooty about dining but if I'm going for an expensive dinner... I'd love it to be great. This was just ok. Not worth the expense. I'd rather go to many other fantastic steak restaurants like CUT. Their tuna tartare is drenched in sesame oil, masking all other flavor. The chicken didn't have flavor and was properly seasoned; the itty bitty fried chicken pieces beneath weren't moist. The fried chicken also wasn't clearly described as pop corn size. I ordered the flat iron wagyu and while the flavor was good, I found chewy parts. I'm glad we went and tried it! We were excited for a new steak place. But, in the future, I'll take my $200 elsewhere."

  • "Kale salad was good but sea bass entere was too salty and very expensive. Rice was cheaply made and combo just did not make sense. Need to revisit this dish"

  • "I took my wife here to celebrate our 28th wedding anniversary. We sat in the "solarium" which seemed nice but not very romantic until the sun went down completely but there was always traffic noise outside. The waitress was superb and the food would have gotten an "outstanding" if not for the price. The lobster pot pie was excellent and I expected a high market price ($68). However, the salted fish was $58 which seemed expensive. The drinks were very good and the number of clientele at the bar proved it. Overall, a great experience for a special occasion.it was probably quieter and more romantic in the main room of the restaurant."

  • "Came for dinner. All the cocktails we ordered were superbly mixed. The best starter was the tuna tartare which was so delicious, almost like having poke at a Hawaiian restaurant. For the main course, the Maine lobster pot pie was not only enjoyable for how it was cooked, but also the table side reassembly of the lobster on the plate. The American Wagyu center-cut flat iron steak was one of the best steaks I have had all my life. So juicy and tender to bite into. We also enjoyed the live jazz music playing every Tuesday which was a nice surprise and added to the cool sophisticated ambiance. The staff was all so courteous and readily available. It's wonderful having a luxurious restaurant like this close to home."

  • "New restaurant in Glendale with good steaks, a great (but) expensive wine list. We had a nice evening for dinner and did not feel rushed to get in and get out, very relaxing. The wait staff is still new and at times not very attentive. The atmosphere was enhanced with the piano music (Zak Provost that evening) that was only noticed when it needed to be... much better than the tape music they used for his breaks."

  • "I took my spouse here on a Friday at lunch, intending it to be a special treat. It was everything I hoped for and more. Food was impeccable. Neither of us typically gets steak, and in that vein, I had the Corvina and he had the chicken skewers. The vegetable choices were among the most interesting choices on the menu. If dining there be sure to ask to server to explain each which whets your interest. If you are like were, several will be intriguing. We had the asparagus and the roasted cauliflower; both were delightful. Service was likewise impeccable. Attentive but not hovering. All of this is despite there being a group of 25 dining in a separate room. At times this can stress a kitchen or the wait staff. Not here. "

  • "I was so exited to try this new place. My sister and I had been waiting to try it for awhile. Finally the restaurant opens and we go in for a nice dinner. Only it was terrible. My sister and I comes from a family of huge well traveled foodies. I was very disappointed. I don't mind spending the money, but the hummus dip was subpar. The steak and my sister's burger was terrible. Something I could make and I can't cook. And who makes you pay for refills nowadays? I haven't seem that in a restaurant in a long time. The waitress was aloof for most of the meal. It was ridiculous and the first big let down since I moved to LA from Chicago a year ago. "

  • "Classy, service attentive and professional, steaks as good as any other steakhouse including Mastro's, Arroyo Chop House, Ruth's Chris, etc. Attention to the wine service and elaborate wine list/menu adds to the sophisticated air. Hopefully Glendale is ready for this....JM"
