A word from Bourbon House
“Arguably the best oyster bar of any white tablecloth restaurant in New Orleans” per the Times Picayune, Dickie Brennan’s Bourbon House is all about local seafood. If it’s not in season, you won’t find it on the menu. Enjoy authentic New Orleans dishes and oysters on the halfshell in a lively atmosphere overlooking Bourbon Street.
Dickie Brennan and his culinary team have created an incredible menu of classic New Orleans dishes complemented by new favorites. Signature favorites include Gulf fish on the Halfshell and New Orleans style Barbeque Shrimp.
Bourbon is a central focus at the bar with more than 100 American Whiskeys on the list. Bourbon House is the perfect place for a mint julep or a straight up shot of that hard to find small batch whiskey.

  • "Great food and service but limited food menu. Had the baked oysters trio, bacon wrapped duck poppers and alligator boudin small plates during happy hour. Ordered the paneed veal and crab crusted fish- either would be excellent choices. Extensive bourbon list, small domestic and local beer list. It is a bourbon house though so that's to be expected. Sign up for the bourbon society and receive a free taste of the bourbon of the month."

  • "From the minute we made the reservation to the on-time seating, to the outstanding service, it was an incredible experience. There was nothing we asked for that they did not accommodate. The oysters were large and delicious. Although they do not normally serve them with an onion/red wine vinegar as a sauce for the oysters, when I requested it came out promptly and perfect. An absolutely pleasurable experience. The best dining experience we had in New Orleans!"

  • "A gem that can get better. Entree came out too early. Delicate fish taken back and put in warmer for 15 minutes. Came back hard and overdone. They should have never brought this back. Had to wait for another new plate. I should not have had to ask for a new dish. This is restaurant 101."

  • "This is my second trip to New Orleans and knew my trip would not be complete unless I visited Bourbon House. The crab fingers bordelaise are beyond amazing. The staff is so courteous and friendly. You can't beat Leo, Perry, Daniel or Sandi - yes, I remembered all their names - they were that good at what they do. They make any visit a pleasure."

  • "Extremely loud and busy, bourbon house is an icon and staple of the tourist scene. Nothing is particularly good, and if you're going for Cajun goodies like gumbo (a grey, oatmeal like mush) or barbecue shrimp I'd look elsewhere. The oysters were great, they source from the same location as Acme. Not the worst place to get stuck, but in a city full of great food, why?"

  • "Everyone knows it's a gamble when you go out to eat on vacation . My husband stumbled across The Bourbon House while taking a stroll down Bourbon Street. The menu looked good do we booked a reservation through open table . We got right in that night . Service was amazing ! My cocktail was never empty, when we were finished with every course the dishes were promptly whisked away followed by another delicious course . The food was outstanding ! We has the crab fingers , BBQ shrimp and my husband and I both got the paneed veal with crab . This was one of the best meals I have had in New Orleans my husband and I strongly recommend dining here. The cost is worth it !"

  • "I was seated right away and service was excellent. I ordered a house salad, glass of wine, red fish on the half-shell and then finished up with bread pudding and coffee. Absolutely perfect meal. The food could not have been better."

  • "Nice place and good food the the service is very poor. We were at a business dinner and the team serving us was unresponsive, slow and spoke above a whisper in a very noisy atmosphere. The service team was not proactive and did not read the table. When we asked for them to give us more time they dissapeared for a very long time and when we asked for anything it seemed like we were bugging them. We ordered wine long before dinner and the dinner was served and the chilled wine as in our waiter's hands while he attended to the other tables so the wine was poured long after the food hit the table. This my 3rd time to Bourbon House and the service is getting worse over time. Will not go back."

  • "preface this by saying, I love the Bourbon House and have been on several occasions, usually with groups, and it's been fantastic. This time however, I was disappointed with the service as it was not what I'd come to expect. We had reservations, but had to wait almost 20 minutes to be seated, not much different than if we'd walked in off the street. We seldom saw our waiter, completely inattentive once we ordered. Our appetizers were cool (not good for calamari) and I had to get up and refill my own wine. He just never came around. Probably won't go back for dinner, lunch seems to be the best time to go to get the service you'd expect from a restaurant with this kind of reputation."

  • "We had some authentic New Orleans food here. BBQ shrimp, alligator, red fish, everything was very tasty. Don't forget to try the bourbon milk punch, delicious!"

  • "We started our lunch off with well made cocktails as my search for the best Sazerac continues. As we sipped on the drinks we received our order of an oyster trio. Well made Oyster Rockefeller, Bienville and Fonseca. Once again I asked the waitress to choose my entree and was amazed at the Redfish on the Half Shell. It was moist and well flavored and served with amazing new potatoes, balsamic glazed red onions, and a lemon beurre blanc. If I were not trying to exercise food discipline, I would have gladly eaten a second. But then I would have missed the Chocolate Pecan Crunch a dark chocolate mousse served with pecan brittle crunch and salted caramel. No wonder this was the recipeint of a recent award for best dessert."

  • "Food was excellent, but what makes this a place to dine is extensive bourbon selection. Separate wait person for drink menu who was very knowledgeable. Will definitely go back."

  • "Me & my wife along with my mother, grandmother, and son (2yrs old) went to bourbon house after a very long and busy day. The staff was extremely friendly and made you feel at home. The atmosphere was very formal but the staff made it feel like home. At no point did I feel pressured to order a certain dish but the waitress did a fantastic job of explaining what the dishes where and making suggestions."

  • "We probably won't go back next time we are in New Orleans. The service was bad. The nice gentleman who filled the water glasses was the only one being attentive to our table. The waitress was MIA. Another guy came by our table so we asked for a drink refill and he never returned. The food was just ok nothing special. The website made it look a lot better than it was."

  • "We were in NOLA to celebrate my mothers 80th birthday! The Bourbon House was a nice choice because it is located on famed "Bourbon Street" but close enough to Canal St that getting to it was easy. Food was outstanding and prices were about average for the area. Great raw oyster bar and one of the few places that we could also get them baked. Most restaurant only offered them fried if you did not want to eat your oysters raw. The only disappointment was that they do not offer the traditional Bread Pudding that makes NOLA famous. There is a "Chocolate Bread Pudding" on the menu and even though it was delicious , it did not resemble anything close to being bread pudding. Will return here on our next visit!"

  • "There was a large wedding party/dinner going on downstairs the night we ate at Bourbon House. I am sure this contributed to the poor/slow service. We were seated in an upstairs dining room. Next to us was a family with several screaming kids, Mom in swimsuit w/pool coverup, and Dad in his Nascar cap. Food presentation was very poor. Our table was not level/VERY unstable. We asked one of the servers to see if he could help with the problem. He tried but was unable to make it steady as the table had a round pedestal. Putting a napkin under one side did not work. This is a table that should not even be in your restaurant, let alone a table where you actually serve guests a meal! Very disappointing! The 3 person server time was a little much."

  • "Went with a group on a free night during a conference. It was a superb experience. We were greeted promply upon arrival, and seated precisely at the time of our reservation. The food was "out of this world" and ambiance was excellent. I would not hesitate to return or recommend anyone to eat here. The Bourbon milk shake was outrageously good!!"

  • "Although the air conditioner was broken the staff never missed a beat. They helped us celebrate two birthdays with brandy milk punch and a candle in our creme brulee. The waiter almost forced me to purchase the more expensive glass of cabernet but it was delicious and probably worth the extra $4. The restaurant was quiet and not crowded which we enjoyed. I did appreciate the hostess calling me before to make me aware of their warmer conditions."

  • "Reserved a table for me and a company. We came few minutes later than the reservation but was still welcomed and well-greeted by the hostess. We had Shrimp Cocktail for appetizer, which was phenomenal and right-portion. I had dozen oysters and my company had BBQ duck. I have to say that Bourbon House Oysters were the biggest and fattest oysters I have ever had in New Orleans. I was shocked when the order came out. Well as for the BBQ duck, it is not worth the price of 32$. I am not surprised about that either since it is a seafood centered restaurant. As everybody mentioned, there are different servers for food, beverage and etc. but it did not bring any problem. Overall I will be back to this place for Oyster for sure. "

  • "Hosted friends from Seattle for Memorial weekend. We come into the city about once a month, so we have tried many off the fabulous restaurants in NOLA. This one just wasn't one of my favorites. It was pretty crazy busy/noisy due to holiday crowds, so not a relaxed meal. Special Fish of the Day was Redfish which we are very familiar with...it was was okay, just nothing special (& quite small serving compared to some I've ordered). Had to add a side salad & it was only iceberg lettuce. Was surprised at $7. Waiters work by team & were always around & engaged, so that I appreciated. Don't even remember what others ordered as I was not getting the "Mmmnn, this is so good" chatter in my ear that I am used when dining in NO. Dessert good though. "

  • "One of us ordered our 2 steaks rare, the other ordered medium. Each plate had one of each, a rare and a medium. Granted, they did give us free after dinner drinks, that didn't make up for it. The meals should have been taken back and remade. We told the waitress but it was so long before we were able to get her that we pretty much resolved ourselves to switching steaks. It wasn't until we were finished eating the manager came to offer free drinks. Bummer. We come to NOLA every 6 months to volunteer and this is our one "special" outing. Our first visit in October 2013 was amazing. We will try it again next October and see if maybe it was just a one off. On a good note, the crab fingers are TO DIE FOR and we always get two orders. "

  • "I wanted a nice place to eat that is not too far from the hotel. Bourbon House was available at the time I wanted and the distance I like. We got there 15 minutes early and was told we need to wait until the EXACT time of our reservation. We were seated in the very end of the restaurant. Here is the problem: my sensitive nose picked up a smell of urine that came through the walls. Oh well, the oysters were great!! My soup was warm (not hot), my salad was very tasteless, but Red fish on half shell is THE choice. Bourbon milkshake was absolutely to die for. I also asked for a Grey Goose Martini, extra dirty and extra olives - the bartender got it PERFECT. WOW!!! So, all in all, it was good night."

  • "Ok. Not with the high price. Had much better seafood other places earlier in week. Staff was pre-occupied with setting up for large tables nearby My catfish was ok but kinda tasteless and nothing to set it apart. Natchez nectar soda tasted like a cough syrup I took as a child. Not their fault just did not hit the spot. Was just not a highlight evening"

  • "We love New Orleans and when I tell people we have never had a bad meal there I am not sure they believe me! We have had some great meals and Bourbon House tops the list. We were there on Mothers Day this year and service was amazing. Love the old school southern service - it is the best. Our meal was great and the Bourbon flight a fun experience. "

  • "I made reservations well in advance. Two people from my party of nine arrived early, we arrived 10 minutes late as we were walking from my graduation at the Superdome. Regardless, many fine dining restaurants have a 15 minute grace period. We arrive and they do not seat us yet. Another party arrives with a reservation after us. They are seated. We are finally seated after waiting 20 minutes upon arrival. It takes the servers a long time to get our drink orders to us. Takes them even longer to take our order and have it come out. The party that arrived after us was done eating and leaving before we even got our food. The servers rarely checked up on us. The waiters even creepily hit on my friend and I in front of my family! So unprofessional"

  • "The restaurant is gorgeous, very quiet, and clean. The staff are nicely dressed & very respectful. However, for the price of the food I expected more!! The bread was so hard I couldn't eat it! They didn't have a huge selection to choose from besides alcohol! I ordered the shrimp creole & it wasn't the best..paid $21 for a fair sized bowl & that's it...no side salad nothing else came with it! I would say the only reason to go here is if you just want to drink....they have a huge list of bourbons!! "

  • "the place was very lovely on the inside that was about it, my family ordered the seafood augratin which only came out with 3 tiny pieces of bread so we did not have anything else to use to eat the dip with when we had finished our bread, we also ordered the fried calamari which is a favorite of ours but this was not good at all there was not any flavor to it and very chewy. i ordered the 4 OZ beef tenderloins cooked medium, it came out almost well. My mother ordered the same thing at the same temperature and hers came out bleeding. there was also fruit fly's flying around our table so that was gross. overall, we did not have a very good experience dining here. "

  • "We had made a 9:30 reservation, and upon arriving the hostess was rude and said she could not honor our reservation. We were told the dinning room was closed and we could sit in the cafe area which was open seating. Why take a reservation if you close the dinning room at a certain time?!? Over all the food was decent, service was a little slow but still not bad. I don't think I'll return to this restaurant as there're are many better ones in the area that will actually honor your reservation."

  • "First time in restaurant. Was not satisfied with the food. Had to send the oysters back along with the orders of fries. The wait time was horrible. A table of ten whose order was placed after our table was served before ours. We still had to wait a half hour longer. There was some things that went well. George who was our waiter was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu.. He did not hesitate to try and make things right. Hopefully if i get another chance, the food and overall experience will be better."

  • "Waitress was a lovely girl but when it came to dissatisfaction with the meal I would have hoped she would have notified someone. I have been to the restaurant previously and wanted my new husband to enjoy the cuisine. I ordered barbequed shrimp and my husband ordered the duck per her recommendation. The shrimp was very good, as were our appetizers, however, the duck was the worst I have ever tasted. The duck meat was extremely tough and dried up, in fact to cut it took an effort to cut and only the sauce was acceptable. The price should lend to one of the top dishes, however, if this is one of their expensive dishes, they need to revisit taste and the tenderness. When notifying the waitress, nothing was done. It was very disappointing."

  • "My 3rd visit here was on the last day of Jazzfest 2014 so maybe the staff was exhausted and the chef ready to be done but this place has REALLY gone downhill. The Fried Shrimp platter was cold, my margarita was super syrupy sweet and the crab soup tasted like dishwater! The Oysters are still great (Fresh Raw) but the cooked oysters (we had all 3) were cold and tasted like they had been baked twice. Really sad to see this place slip - Love the atmosphere!"
