A word from Bourbon House
“Arguably the best oyster bar of any white tablecloth restaurant in New Orleans” per the Times Picayune, Dickie Brennan’s Bourbon House is all about local seafood. If it’s not in season, you won’t find it on the menu. Enjoy authentic New Orleans dishes and oysters on the halfshell in a lively atmosphere overlooking Bourbon Street.
Dickie Brennan and his culinary team have created an incredible menu of classic New Orleans dishes complemented by new favorites. Signature favorites include Gulf fish on the Halfshell and New Orleans style Barbeque Shrimp.
Bourbon is a central focus at the bar with more than 100 American Whiskeys on the list. Bourbon House is the perfect place for a mint julep or a straight up shot of that hard to find small batch whiskey.

We are locals and eat raw oysters very frequently, but have never been served anything like this. Half were nice size and a reasonably good flavor, the other half were as best I could describe as awful. They were tiny, had a bad after taste, and I would not believe they were actually served. We ered 2 doz. Our server was much more concerned with the large table next to us, as we had to ask him to take our order. When another table next to us received bread and butter after just being seated, we asked for bread, and yes it did arrive about 10 minutes after our main dish arrived. We eat out frequently and have had mixed results in prior visits. We will not be back.

My husband and I lunched at Bourbon House on a recent New Orleans anniversary trip. The service was slow initially, though the restaurant was not crowded. Once the service started, it was friendly and competent. My husband enjoyed the barbecued shrimp po-boy, proclaimed "outstanding." I had fish tacos, a very generous serving with three tacos. The fish was blackened, and slightly dry, but it was accompanied with fresh corn, black beans, onion, cole slaw and sour cream. Overall, a tasty dish, but it would have been even better with guacamole. I was only able to eat the tortilla for one taco, and ate the other two without tortilla. It was a satisfying meal.

I was traveling alone and booked a reservation last minute. Unfortunately, it was for much later than I wanted, so I decided to walk to the restaurant and see if I could snag an earlier table. It turns out that the front section of the restaurant along with the oyster bar are first come, first served so I was able to grab a seat at the bar immediately. All in all a good experience. My only disappointment is while their on-line menu said they had hushpuppies, they do not. That's blasphemy in my book -- who serves fried seafood without hushpuppies??

The restaurant is in a great location but that's about the only positive from our experience. We are long-time New Orleans visitors and this was by far our worst food experience in over 20 years. The corn and crab soup smelled slightly spoiled and two of our three entrees were inedible, the gulf fish with artichokes and the shrimp creole. We actually complained about the soup and the shrimp creole and our server said, "Yes, most people don't like the shrimp creole here." The wait staff were almost zombie-like, bordering on hostile. We tried to be as friendly as possible and insisted on paying for the meal and tipping appropriately despite the horrible food. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Been coming to NOLA for past couple years but hadn't ate here yet. Finally did this trip and wasn't impressed. Food was ok, had much better charbroiled Oysters elsewhere, and entree was just middle of the road. Wait staff was not very friendly either compared to other places nearby. Also, wine selection by the glass was limited. Did like the Bourbon glass being included in the bill, especially after specifically asking them not to because it was a corporate dinner. Had to have them remove it. So, ok but not great.

Went there Sat night for girls' night out -- we had generous pours of several wonderful bourbons, topped off with a couple of desserts that disappeared like magic. The food and drink were only surpassed by our waiters! They were all very knowledgeable about the food and drink, and took care to ensure we enjoyed our visit. Perfect ending to a great trip. Definitely worth a visit!

This place is right in the center of it all. The atmosphere seemed some what casual. There were couples, families and even a few bachelor/ette parties when we went. Most of the food was very good. Alligator boudin balls were excellent!!! My fish was very overcooked but the rest of the meal was delicious! I would recommend trying out the bourbon house and even selecting a bourbon or two to drink off their extensive bourbon menu. Although right outside was crazy, this place is much tamer and shines when it comes to flavor and service.

This is a hard critique to write because my husband thoroughly enjoyed his meal and mine was awful. He ordered Oysters Bordelaise as an appetizer and Fried Oysters for an entree. We split the spinach salad which was yummy. The bordelaise oysters were awesome and ended up my replacement meal for the terrible Fish Iberville dish. The dish smelled horrible when they put it in front of me, and I could not choke it down because of that. I had to flag down the waiter to have him replace my meal. NO manager ever came to check on us after that or at any time during the meal, which surprised me. Customer service is not their strong point obviously. We will never go back.

We had heard good reviews of Bourbon House and decided to make reservations for a romantic dinner. The food and service were outstanding but ourselves and two other parties of two were seated in close proximity to each other in a half booth, half table setup. It was very loud in the restaurant and impossible to have a private conversation with the two other couples sitting within arms reach of us. One couple next to us actually left before ordering because they couldn't hear each other. Besides the seating and noise level we had a wonderful meal and plan on going back again soon!

Rivaled best dinning in the city. The redfish on the half shell was flavored and cooked to perfection. The seafood gumbo wasn't the best I've ever had but was deep and rich and good enough to recommend. Though full after entrees, we tried the specialty chocolate desert simply because the web site touted that it had won an award. Ordered it to split then had to order a second because it was just too good to share. A must way to end the meal! Add the great drink selection (especially bourbon selection - hence the restaurant name) and the impeccable service and I highly recommend all go there or give it a second shot if like me you we not overly impressed with previous visit.

Great food and service but limited food menu. Had the baked oysters trio, bacon wrapped duck poppers and alligator boudin small plates during happy hour. Ordered the paneed veal and crab crusted fish- either would be excellent choices. Extensive bourbon list, small domestic and local beer list. It is a bourbon house though so that's to be expected. From the minute we made the reservation to the on-time seating, to the outstanding service, it was an incredible experience. There was nothing we asked for that they did not accommodate. The oysters were large and delicious. Although they do not normally serve them with an onion/red wine vinegar as a sauce for the oysters, when I requested it came out promptly and perfect. An absolutely pleasurable experience. The best dining experience we had in New Orleans!

Extremely loud and busy, bourbon house is an icon and staple of the tourist scene. Nothing is particularly good, and if you're going for Cajun goodies like gumbo (a grey, oatmeal like mush) or barbecue shrimp I'd look elsewhere. The oysters were great, they source from the same location as Acme. Not the worst place to get stuck, but in a city full of great food, why?

Everyone knows it's a gamble when you go out to eat on vacation . My husband stumbled across The Bourbon House while taking a stroll down Bourbon Street. The menu looked good do we booked a reservation through open table . We got right in that night . Service was amazing ! My cocktail was never empty, when we were finished with every course the dishes were promptly whisked away followed by another delicious course . The food was outstanding ! We has the crab fingers , BBQ shrimp and my husband and I both got the paneed veal with crab . This was one of the best meals I have had in New Orleans my husband and I strongly recommend dining here. The cost is worth it !

Nice place and good food the the service is very poor. We were at a business dinner and the team serving us was unresponsive, slow and spoke above a whisper in a very noisy atmosphere. The service team was not proactive and did not read the table. When we asked for them to give us more time they dissapeared for a very long time and when we asked for anything it seemed like we were bugging them. We ordered wine long before dinner and the dinner was served and the chilled wine as in our waiter's hands while he attended to the other tables so the wine was poured long after the food hit the table. This my 3rd time to Bourbon House and the service is getting worse over time. Will not go back.

preface this by saying, I love the Bourbon House and have been on several occasions, usually with groups, and it's been fantastic. This time however, I was disappointed with the service as it was not what I'd come to expect. We had reservations, but had to wait almost 20 minutes to be seated, not much different than if we'd walked in off the street. We seldom saw our waiter, completely inattentive once we ordered. Our appetizers were cool (not good for calamari) and I had to get up and refill my own wine. He just never came around. Probably won't go back for dinner, lunch seems to be the best time to go to get the service you'd expect from a restaurant with this kind of reputation.

We started our lunch off with well made cocktails as my search for the best Sazerac continues. As we sipped on the drinks we received our order of an oyster trio. Well made Oyster Rockefeller, Bienville and Fonseca. Once again I asked the waitress to choose my entree and was amazed at the Redfish on the Half Shell. It was moist and well flavored and served with amazing new potatoes, balsamic glazed red onions, and a lemon beurre blanc. If I were not trying to exercise food discipline, I would have gladly eaten a second. But then I would have missed the Chocolate Pecan Crunch a dark chocolate mousse served with pecan brittle crunch and salted caramel. No wonder this was the recipeint of a recent award for best dessert.
