  • "This was my 4th visit and I was disappointed with the food. Not sure what happened in the kitchen, but I hope things change. The ribeye wasn't sliced and was served cold. The salt fries were soggy, and the lobster tacos were subpar. My past dining experiences were exceptional, which is why I returned with a new guest. I hope these issues are addressed, so I can return."

  • "I dunno. I feel like every time a good-great restaurant rocks a Groupon, the quality of the good goes from good/great to meh. We had brunch. Steak and eggs were fine. Huevos Rancheros are so much better at so many Latin American restaurants for half the price, and what's with a restaurant that--when you ask for a little bread to dip into your jus, they bring you (packaged?) "tostettes" and charge you $3! Okay for a Groupon since there was savings, but I am bummed that I am now totally demotivated to try Bourbon and Beef for dinner."

  • "We came here for a special occasion, four of us plus two kids ~2 years old. The food was absolutely incredible. Probably the best in Rockridge (which is saying a lot as Olivetto is right across the street), but the service was clearly displeased that we had brought our kids. I guess we're expected not to have a nice dinner for the next 18 years? Anyway, I would highly recommend this place for the food, but don't bring anyone that's not old enough to drink."

  • "Have wanted to try this place since it opened. Finally came for lunch, which is the same as brunch. The menu is intriguing, using duck bacon on many items. My partner ordered a burger deemed excellent. I ordered the fish sandwich, which the waitperson told me was a lightly breaded halibut, which was actually salmon (even better). Both the burger and the fish came on ciabatta. My fish was a little too subtly spiced to be placed on ciabatta. Several options to spice it up. I chose to eat it sans bread. Very tasty. The sweet potato fries were also excellent. May come back for the very interesting looking huevos rancheros."

  • "Ordered the pork belly benedict - absolutely delicious! Service was very lacking - when we arrived, there was only one table occupied, yet our server was not very helpful. She was unenthusiastic, uncaring, and unavailable. We asked about the lemonade and she said it was Minute Maid. Um, yum? Only reason I gave a 2nd star for service is that our food was delivered by the bartender, who took it upon himself to ask if we wanted refills for our iced tea. Wish I could have just given him a tip and skipped the server. One star for ambience because of the multiple flies in the restaurant. Yuck."

  • "They should've called themselves Bourbon and Pork! (Admittedly, it doesnt have the same ring to it as Bourbon and Beef) Their kobe pork was amazingly delicious and my favorite bite of the night. Although that's not to take away from their other dishes. They were all delicious! We had a big group of 9 so we had a wide variety of food to steal off each others plates! Aside from the pork, I really enjoyed the Tasmanian shrimp salad and Seafood paella. Cocktails were on point (try their signature cocktail or the Manhattan). Server was great, although food service seemed a bit slow. It was a busy night (Sat) but we were in a festive mood so it wasnt an issue for us. Plus the food was worth the wait!"

  • "We were surprised it was a Latin inspired cuisine; there was little of what one expects with the v aried and delightful food that is found on Spanish/Latin menus. Bourbon sampler was exquisite in presentation we were surprised at the lack of beef varieties. There is such potential for that location, space and concept. 2Bad!"

  • "Do not come here expecting a steak house. The cuisine is latin-inspired and includes a number of seafood entrees and a few steaks. The restaurant is reflective of many recent openings with the emphasis is on the bar and tapas. Food quality for the most part was very good, but with a few misses, particularly the duck breast. Great small dishes included the bacon wrapped asparagus and the crispy brussel spouts. Service, overall, was good. The hostess was excellent but there were a few glitches with the server such as an order that was not placed. The cocktail list was excellent with a number of whisky-based creations. The ambiance is nice, but the restaurant is cramped and noisy. The good outweighed the bad and we will come back again."

  • "I've been here about four times and this was our best experience. We took our kids for Father's Day. We had a reservation but still had to wait about 15 minutes. It was well worth the wait. The food is so good, especially the mac and cheese with chorizo. There were a few new items that I can't wait to try. I will definitely be back."

  • "We had a great time at Bourbon and Beef. The Server, Lauren, was very engaging and knowledgable. We shared a lot of first and second courses between the four of us. Everything was excellent tasting. Including the cocktails! Would definately go back. Pricey, but worth it!"

  • "Made a reservation for a table for 4 but when arrived were seated at end of bar which they consider a "table". When asked, they promised to move us to a table when one became available - but that never happened. So uncomfortable bar stools, speaker aimed right at us making conversation almost impossible without yelling, mediocre (at best) overpriced food, bar service area at one guest's elbow (literally) and short pours on several drinks (oops - well we won't charge you full price) made for a not-in-a-good-way memorable evening. I would characterize this place as putting one over on gullible pretentious hipsters - don't go there!!"

  • "The food was good, not great, good quality and presented well. The service, while not bad, was timed badly and somewhat absent, despite each waitperson only serving what seemed to be three tables. Our drinks were brought out after our appetizers, and our menus were taken after we ordered the appetizers though we had not ordered main courses. So, then, by memory, we ordered another appetizer and their signature dish, paella, to share. Both came out at the same time after half an hour. So, the paella sat there another 10 minutes while we ate the appetizer on our small appetizer plates, not large enough to hold two things. We were never brought normal main-dish sized plates."

  • "We ordered the filet and the ravioli with a couple of sides and two menu specialty drinks for a total of $120 with tip. Filet was good, but for $40 was expecting better. $24 for three ravioli seemed a bit excessive, but luckily I got the saffron rice as a side which was very good. All sides are separate, entres come with nothing. Good atmosphere, slow service even on a fairly empty Sunday at 9pm. Overall unimpressed by the quality of food you get for the price you pay. Too bad you can't eat the trendy atmosphere."

  • "Second time here; the menu was "revised" since -- no more tapas-style items. The current menu is confused: not clear what kind of cuisine. Very disappointing. I ordered 2 appetizers, my companion ordered 1 appetizer + 1 main. Our server brought my appetizers first and nothing for my companion. I made clear that we weren't sharing, but she was snippy when I asked to have my companion's appetizer delivered ASAP. My brussel sprouts were more than "crispy" -- I DID NOT RECOGNIZE that they were brussel sprouts! My companion's main was fine but seriously tiny. Our bill for 3 apps/1 main plus 1 water and 1 drink was around $100. Not worth it. We will not return: there are many good choices along College, no reason to pay $$$$ for poor quality. "

  • "My husband was surprised when I picked Bourbon and Beef for my birthday dinner. I'm a fins and wings only person. We had PLENTY of amazing options (lobster cups, chicken livers, little peppers, brussel sprouts...) we devoured it all. As far as food is concerned, the dishes were fantastic. Prices are about what I'd expect for a nice dinner out (came to ~$120 with two alcoholic beverage and 5 small plates, including tip), but I can see where this would be considered pricey. It's certainly not a place we could come to frequently - but for a special occasion, yes, it fit the bill. "

  • "We're glad we went for the well-reviewed "signature" dishes like prime rib eye steak and flavorful paella - dishes that paired perfectly with our rich Malbec. We agree with the warning that "tapas" are very small for the price. Still the 3 tasty, fatty pork belly bites helped us down the well-constructed cocktails - strong enough to get the evening started right. It's a challenging space so the tables were few and small but separate enough for privacy - better than the communal tables they use to have. Music was pop rock but hubby thought it should have more Latin flair. The place IS "fusion" after all so not all Latin. Good food and great cocktails. Our attentive and very cool server Victoria added to the fun spot. Go..."

  • "BB is attempting to be both bar and restaurant in a small space but instead of cozy it comes off as cramped. On a Saturday afternoon my party of 5 was left waiting at the door for 10 minutes while the maitre d' hovered in an alcove (only one other table occupied in the restaurant.) Finally a server came up, acknowledged us and led us to a small booth. Overall the table service was fantastic and very attentive. But the atmosphere war very disappointing.The music was so loud you couldn't converse without yelling... ok for a bar but just annoying in a restaurant...the food was very good, if small portions don't put you off. Factor in a automatic 20% gratuity for parties of 5 or more and no, I'm sorry I won't be recommending this one."

  • "The service here was terrible. As soon as we sat down we gave our waitress our Groupon. Our server asked us if we wanted coffee. One person in our party wanted decaf so she said it would take 10 minutes to brew and we said that was fine. Over 10 minutes later she remembered to bring our coffee and we saw her start making the decaf. The restaurant had only been open 30 minutes and she then came over to tell us that they were out of one of the things a member in our party had ordered. Our server only refilled our coffee when we asked and just seemed to be aimlessly wandering around. This is a very small restaurant and the other server was really hustling around, serving customers, refilling coffee cups, removing plates, etc. "

  • "It's very rare that I find a restaurant worthy of 5 stars.... well Bourbon and Beef has done it for me! Although we were expecting it to be a "good" what we found was one where the amazing food, the excellent service, and the awesome environment all contributed to an A+++ experience. I highly recommend to go there with a good number of friends, order a lot of different dishes and share them family style vs. ordering individually.... otherwise you might miss out on some of the amazing dishes. In terms of 'musts,' you have to try the spicy tortolini, the chile relleno, and the liver (yes.... the liver!), but in all reality, you can't go wrong with anything! All 15 dishes we ordered were just amazing. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "We enjoyed all of our choices but the prices were high for the quantity. Very small portions. Entrées were way too pricy. We chose 3 small plates and the salmon salad. Nicely prepared but small servings. The martinis were a couple dollars more than most places. Although I gave 4 stars for service because they were very attentive, I was disappointed that even though the Open Table reservation stated birthday celebration, and I even said hello to the owner and stated I chose B&B for my birthday dinner, there was not even a candle; Much less a comp on the dessert. This was tacky. "

  • "Had a wonderful experience dining at Bourbon and Beef. Was a little nervous about the noise level so due to the bar being close to the dining but wasn't a problem. Could visit with friends easily. Lauren our server was wonderful and very accomodating. Will certainly return, want to return sometime just for dessert as was too full after the delicious starters and entree. "
