Diner Reviews
  • "I ordered soft shell crabs on both of my visits and they were delicious. Had a wonderful dandelion, arugula, dried cherry salad with a wonderful balsamic dressing. I took my son and his girlfriend and we all ordered specialty drinks which were tasty and interesting. I love the wines offered by the glass as I look forward to exploring new wines that I am totally unfamiliar with drinking. Love this restaurant!"

  • "Nice spot for a date and it was cool to watch the chef cook our food through the window."

  • "The food was only okay because the flavor was hidden behind the use if too much sauce. The service was very good and friendly."

  • "I was very impressed with the seasonings and combinations - the halibut was delicious, succulent and filling. Great service, nice wine list."

  • "We had a great experience at Boundary Road. While the menu was small, the food was well executed and tasty. I highly recommend the Maryland Crab Soup as an appetizer. It was delicious. "

  • "We found this place by chance, and it became a very good surprise. Original place, delicious brunch, kind and attentive staff. We´ll come back for sure!"

  • "We had a large group for a graduation brunch. The restaurant was very accommodating for setting it up and for changes that we requested. The food was very good, the service was great and they allowed us to linger at the table and enjoy each other's company. We never felt rushed or that we needed to leave. I would definitely recommend to others. "

  • "Arrived early for reservation and headed to the bar. A variety of handcrafted cocktails, international wines, and microbrewery beers are on the menu. We tried several cocktails, all were outstanding. Service at bar was attentive and drinks did not take an outrageously long time to make despite the care that goes in to each one. Some bars make you wait just a little too long for the artisan cocktails. Once our table was ready we sat down and found the service to be quite fast considering how busy they were. It was artichoke week so we started with the artichoke flatbread. Simply easy and light. I had the blue fish, while my guest had the halibut. Halibut was good but sweet potatoes were too smoky. Finished with the donuts - lovely!"

  • "Brad has done an amazing job of creating a warm and welcoming establishment. His FOH & BOH staff are on point and the food, service and experience point to the fact that everyone there cares about and enjoys what they are doing."

  • "First caught a glimpse of this place on a recent episode on Food Network. They did not disappoint! Service was easy going and excellent with recommendations. The food was crazy delish! Everyone at the table had something different and all raved about their plates. I hate the brick chicken. OMG! It was so flavorful, juicy and it was a huge portion! It was hot from start to finish. From drinks, to wine; appetizers to dessert, this place was fantastic. Will be going back again! THANK YOU!"

  • "Had a very good dinner at Boundary Road on Saturday night. Was able to book reservations in the afternoon for a dinner that night without any problem, and when we showed up with 5 instead of the 4 we thought we had, they were very accommodating. Cocktails were outstanding and food was very good. Service was attentive and efficient. A little noisy for good conversation, but where in DC isn't?"

  • "Party of 8 for birthday celebration - Samantha saw to our every need. Began w drinks and meat and cheese plates; noteworthy beer selection, plus folks enjoyed the I'm thinking of buying a Vespa. Rye Rover basically a Manhattan. Onto the mains of Bison hangar steak and Bluefish - both great. We'll be back!"

  • "Boundary Road has been more than great with helping us have a great experience. I have dietary restrictions due to allergies and they make sure that I am able to eat and have a great meal. Staff knows their stuff and it seems like a great atmosphere to work and yet dine there! Recommend them! "

  • "H street is close to my office, but I go home when all the H Street restaurants open up. It's hard to find decent food at lunchtime on H Street. The menu was limited for lunch but very satisfying and made good choices for all types. Don't have to drive downtown when you want something better than sandwich and pizza. Most H Street restaurants tend to play REALLY loud music and can't even talk. Here, the service was friendly and prompt for 8 of us at noon. Had nice cheese/meat tray to start. They got pretty busy. Hoping other restaurants take the hint! We're here...open up!"

  • "We had heard great things about this place. We had a good time, but the food was a bit bland and for one of us, undercooked. Boundary Road does have great drinks and a great atmosphere so I recommend it to those who are interested in that type of evening. "

  • "This is a great spot on the near NE side. Creative menu. Excellent and interesting wine and drink list. Casual with an attentive staff. We went on a Sunday night, but I imagine reservations are required most every night. Not to be missed!"

  • "We came here and ended up eating a bunch of different dishes. The fries are delicious (and the mayo too!). The house salad is not a wimpy salad at all; you get a heaping portion, but it could use some form of crunch besides just vegetables. We also had the pork and beans and the sweetbreads, both of which were also very tasty. The bison short ribs were absolutely wonderful, with the smoky sweet potatoes really pulling the dish together. The halibut was well cooked as well. Only complaint was that the vegetarian dish, while delightful, is the same basic dish (farro risotto) that they've had since they opened. It's really tasty, and sometimes the vegetables change up, but it could be nice to see an interesting new vegetarian dish instead."

  • "I've been wanting to eat at Boundary Road for some time so when we had a friend in town, it was the perfect reason. Unfortunately every element of our evening was "Meh" at best. The server cared for us like she had absolutely no interest in being there that night. When asked if there were specials for the night, her response, a soul crushing "Nope". I have two positive things to say. They can make a good french fry and they have a good wine list. Every other element was so underwhelming, it will be a long time before someone will convince me to return."

  • "we had the bison short ribs. they were delicious. the crab soup was good but it could have had more of the crab meat in it. the food is innovative so be prepared for something a little different. We loved it and will come back again."

  • "My best friend and I had a nice brunch and could hear each other perfectly well. The staff was very friendly. I loved the apple and cheese pancakes. I also really appreciated how they served us tea in tiny teapots. We had a great time and will be back."

  • "The cocktails are outstanding. Sometimes the bartenders will even create something special for you off the menu. The menu changes to match the seasons and every bite is full of flavor. Worth the stroll from Union Station or a ride on the X2."

  • "We could not have enjoyed brunch more. The menu was eclectic, with lots of fun options. After much deliberation, we settled on the Reuben Eggs Benedict and the Apple and Cheese Pancakes (both must-try dishes!), with a side of what was possibly the most amazing bacon ever. My breakfast cocktail--the ....Vespa--was good, and my friend's bottomless punch was light and delicious. We also loved the decor, especially the unique light fixtures. I am thrilled that Boundary Road is just a short walk away from my friend's new place... and she's even happier!"

  • "I had the winter vegetarian risotto here one evening -- really, really good. The vegetables were perfectly done. Also had a house salad, which was lovely and fresh."

  • "Delicious cocktails. Great wine and beer list. Menu not overwhelming. Allows them to do a few items well. A real foodie place. Amiable decor. Attentive, knowledgeable staff. Acoustics make it a little loud."

  • "We had a great server which is something we value quite highly and know it can make good food become a bad dining experience without it. The food was delicious and the ambiance was really nice too. The brownie sundae was out of this world and we paired it with a rusty nail from the bartender which was perfect :)"

  • "This place seemed like it was trying too hard. The menu was limited and everything was a little too fancy pants for me. A menu online would have been helpful."

  • "Boundary Road is fantastic... staff knows their stuff, the chef and his team make amazing food. Chef Brad Walker seems to have a true gift for meat. The cocktails are off-kilter and yet classic. The wine list is brief but well thought out and covers all the bases, and there is a constantly-changing and yet consistent beer list. A neighborhood joint that makes you wish you lived in that neighborhood."

  • "I've eaten at Boundary Road several times while in DC for business. However, this was my husband's first visit. We loved everything about it. Interesting cocktails, wonderfully different beer selections. The Foie Gras PBJ is not to be missed. The entrees are simply wonderful. I've never had a negative experience with any of the dishes I've tried. I ALWAYS try whatever Chef Brad Walker suggests. Simply wonderful...and dessert is not to be missed."

  • "Our food was quite good and the atmosphere was very nice. Service was a little slow, largely because our poor server seemed to be having to cover the bar as well (the bartender didn't seem to be able to handle more than two customers at the bar). However, our server was really nice and was doing her best! (Food was slow, too.) And it is a pleasant place to be! I would go back for the fish, and for the risotto dish."

  • "Delicious, inventive, and beautifully-executed food in a environment that simultaneously evokes cozy intimacy, a passion for life, and lively sociality. Boundary Road gets right to the heart of what I love about good food and a good dining experience, and it keeps me coming back time and again."

  • "Boundary Road is almost someplace I would return to regularly but in several areas falls flat. The portions can be undersized. The pacing is slow, far too much of a gap between appetizers and the main course. There appears to be inconsistency of the quality of food, although that was observed by follow diners rather than myself. Being seated by the kitchen window is noisy and distracting, granted for some they find it enjoyable. Overall I enjoyed it but am doubtful we shall return."

  • "Cheese and meat starter was nice sampler for group of 6. Crab soup was hearty and served nice and hot as soup should be. Entrees were filling with sides of mashed potatoes and seasonal veges - brick chicken could have used a tad more seasoning. Brownie dessert was nice finish. Drinks and wine were refreshing. Overall experience was above expectations. Recommend for group of 6. Service was just right with recommendations when asked for but allowed our group to enjoy our own space and company."

  • "This was my second time at Boundary Road. The first time, with four people, the service was fantastic and the food was even better. This time around, also with four people, the some of the food was really outstanding and some were just okay. The most disappointing thing, however, was the service. Our server was very nice and knowledgeable but I expected a little more attention to the timing of our food. I expected the main course to take a while but it took too long to get the appetizer. The server also forgot to check on some of our drinks. Overall, it was fine but I'm not chomping at the bit to go back again."

  • "So glad to see the H Street NE Cooridor came back to life and it is places like this one that are helping to make it happen. A solid place that is family friendly and I suspects rocks on Friday & Saturday mights."

  • "I had the honor of organizing a group dinner before a concert on H Street. I had to change the reservation a total of three times, and BR was completely accommodating and nice about it. Dinner was great. The food was tasty. The highlight of the drink menu is a cocktail called, "I'm Thinking About Getting a Vespa." Best.cocktail.name.ever. The ambiance is very H Street. Trendy/hipster vibe. Fitting for the area. The service was fantastic. Overall, great dining experience."

  • "With all of the new places cropping up in this neighborhood, restaurants and bars really need to put forth a solid effort if they want to stick around. Don't get me wrong, the rusted metal mattress transformed into a light fixture hanging from the ceiling was cool and all, but it would have been cooler if our server was actually attentive (like, maybe offered us dessert), the food wasn't bland and a tad too pricey, and I didn't go home still starving. It was a Monday night and not very busy, so there's really no excuse. I really do like the decor and the bar looked like a fun place to hang (my cocktail was very good), but I don't think I'll be returning for a meal."
