Diner Reviews
  • "We tried all Boulud restaurants in NYC and they never disappoint. The food is great, modern, tasty, with interesting flavors and ingredients, and artistically arranged. The service is always superb without being overwhelming. Even if you are a "Restaurant Week" customer, you will be treated as a king. The only little flaw at this location - too many different people serving and busing the table. It's nice to have just a couple of people, instead of new person coming over every 10 minutes. It's a bit confusing, like "what does she want from us? ". Otherwise, nice and bright restaurant, pleasantly cold on a hot day , no need for sweater. We were able to have a nice conversation (we went for lunch), no noise, no annoying music."

  • "love it love it, Kylie took great care of us. We threw a monkey wrench by adding a third person but the team really helped us out. Just a perfect experience."

  • "Although the service was superb, the food was disappointing. It was good but I had expected GREAT! In my opinion the flavors were too bland."

  • "We started w the tomato, watermelon, & burrata salad. It was surprisingly lacking in flavor. We had chicken tajine for our main course. That was excellent. Totally delicious, ample portion & handsomely presented. The service was outstanding in every way. The restaurant is elegant, airy without being too formal. A great combo. Will definitely recommend it& eat there again."

  • "Food absolutely out of this world. Terrific waitress. Only slight blemish- we waited a while for our wine"

  • "This is where Bar Boulud went to heaven. Everything was prepared perfectly, was served and presented perfectly and took my palate places it had never been before. I had high expectations, and they were fulfilled. We requested a seat near the paintings on the wall, and despite that section being closed, we sat there by ourselves, just far enough from the crowd to make it enjoyable."

  • "Sharing 5 appetizers, two glasses of wine, one beer, the check plus tip was $163! Although the waitress seemed knowledgeable, she disappeared without taking our drink order - had to communicate through attentive busboy who gave us second rounds of bread when we still hadn't gotten any food for over an hour! There may have been a problem in the kitchen, but we were not told; however our order finally came delivered by a manager (first the wrong order - with apologies, then 10 minutes later with the correct order). I'm ambivalent about returning, particularly if I need to attend theater afterwards! I hope they address their issues. FYI - a French couple sat next to us and received the same poor service and were shocked."

  • "We had an exceptional Dinner at Boulud Sud last week end. The food was exquisite, the wine delicious and our waiter, Harold, makes sure all our nerds were taking care off."

  • "We three enjoyed the most amazing meal. Everything on the plates looked beautiful, included ingredients never combined in such intriguing and wonderous ways, and yielded new taste sensations. We strongly urge folks to try out this neighborhood treasure."

  • "Boulud Sud is a Mediterranean style restaurant crafted for NY audiences, you couldn't actually find this resto anywhere else. The food was quite pleasing, although not brilliant in any way. The chicken tagine and the lamb were quite enjoyable. The sound level was not too bad, but we ate quite late, and it was no longer quite full. The wine list had some interesting southern French choices, and we enjoyed our Minervois for $70. The service was not unfriendly, just non-existent, and our table was right in the middle of the dining room. I felt like if I wasn't proactive, I could have sat there all evening without being served, and this persisted throughout the meal. Among the most inattentive service experiences that I've had."

  • "The food is very diverse for a Mediterranean restaurant, however the service is a bit lousy for its quality. Had to ask for water several times during the course of our dinner."

  • "I took a date for the pre-theater dinner (LincolnCenter). She commented:"It's the only restaurant in New York where the mains are actually better than the appetizers!" - and the appetizers were quite good. But we both had fish for the main course: fresh, cooked exactly to the right point, with perfect complements. Service was excellent, cheerful, unobtrustive - perfect! We chose a sidewalk table: on Broadway, it's not quite "intimate", but that was our choice. It does give you permanent entertainment, always refreshed!"

  • "We came in early, before a concert at the Beacon, unknowing that there is a price fixed only menu before 7. Nonetheless, we had an exquisite meal timed perfectly to get us out at exactly 7:40. The grilled octopus was perfectly charred and just the right amount of chew/tenderness. Our fish was wonderful and the artichoke frisee salad was so substantial! Same with the side of charred broccoli rabe. I was quite full, but the desserts which came with the price fixed meal, were like artwork. So lovely were the 2 chocolate treats we chose, we almost didn't want to bite in, but once we did, no stopping us."

  • "Daniel Boulud delivers on all scores at Boulud Sud. The Mediterranean menu is refreshing and the variety offers something for everyone. The grilled octopus and Mediterranean Mezze are perfect pre-show and the wine selection is always interesting. The restaurant offers bar dining both at the bar or at cafe tables on a first come first serve basis. Whether you want a lighter bite or a complete dining experience this is the best Lincoln Center area restaurants has to offer."

  • "Menu is so pretentious. Waiter has to explain everything. I want to enjoy the wonderful food not look in a dictionary so I can decide want to order."

  • "One if the best meals I have had in a long time. Eash dish was well executed and full of flavor. The desserts were excellent as well. I hope to be back soon!"

  • "I really enjoyed my dinner at Boulud Sud. I took a friend on business from Japan there for dinner and we ordered the pre-fixe menu. I am a vegetarian and there wasn't a lot entree selections. The chef made a basil risotto for me; and it was delicious. We were stuck there for quite some time due to the bad weather. But we were not rushed out. The waiters were very friendly and understanding. I definitely will go back there."

  • "We had high expectations given our experience at Daniel and the Boulud on the East Side. But this was not fine dining at all. They had paper on top of the table cloth! It seemed it was busy with people attending pre-dinner shows.. people coming and going quite frequently. The food was okay but nothing to write about and not tempting to go back for. The most disappointing aspect was that our waiter could hardly speak English. We couldn't understand hardly anything that he said. So our several questions (because the menu is written in code it seems so it's hard to know what to expect on your plate... which is fancy and okay if the waiter can explain the dishes to you) remained unanswered as he frequently said I don't know the word in English."

  • "Food is so good and creative, offering tastes from all over the Mediterranean. The prix fixe, the only menu available with a 6:45 or 7 pm (or earlier) reservation, offers three courses with good choices and generous portions. We always enjoy eating at this very handsome and elegant restaurant. Can't wait to return."

  • "Food looked gourmet but did not taste gourmet. Sauces were indistinctive and purees were gloppy. No flavor harmonies existed in anything we ate. Waiter was under par; apologized for long waits between courses due to a large party that had come in. He should have sent over other wait staff who were idle to our table instead and it did not help in what was becoming a sub par dining experience to begin with. I would call this restaurant "faux gourmet". This was the 3rd and final time we're eating at Bolud Sud, it sadly seems to be sliding precipitously towards tourist fodder."

  • "We went to Boulud Sud after seeing a play and had a generally poor experience. The service was lacking to say the least. I don't know that we were ever assigned a waiter. After much waiting the host noticed this and took our order himself. Various servers kept bringing us the wrong things and I had to place a drink order twice. The food was ok."

  • "Pleasant, unhurried service. Thank God the waiter was not patronizing! Grilled octopus was done right, sheeps milk ricotta had right touch of garlic. Excellent dining without fuss."

  • "Fabulous food at reasonable prices, considering the quality. Very nice service too. I was amazed that a restaurant billing itself as a Mediterranean place, and with an otherwise huge wine list, only had three rose's on their list. The wine list is quite pricey, and would like to see more bottles under $80. NYC wine markups are excessive in my view."

  • "If you go at sunset, you will want to sit North/South or facing East. At about 6pm the restaurant is a long subway tunnel facing a setting orange sun and you may need sunglasses. The service is pleasant enough. The high light of the medal was an ice cream dish with lots fo great toppings"

  • "Interestingly bold and tasty cuisine with more satisfying portions than one would expect in this genre restaurant. Prix fixe ($60, but be prepared for $100+ each) offers great choices. And you only have to walk across Broadway and Columbus Ave (and survive) to get to Lincoln Center! Our neighborhood favorite for very special occasions."

  • "In short, Baloud Sud delivers on every dining experience level from the spacious attractive and comfortable room to great service from a knowledgeable polite staff. Interactive but not intrusive. Food is divine-light but esoteric and adventurous. Only criticism-cocktails are too measured."

  • "There were so many unique and tempting dishes on the menu, our party of four celebrating my birthday did not know where to start. Fortunately, our waiter guided us through the appetizers, starters to share and main courses. We ordered just enough to leave room for a dessert that we shared. Our selections were all fabulous, especially the tuna tartar, and we will have to go back soon to try new selections."

  • "We have dined at Boulud several times since it opened and most often really enjoyed it. However, we forgot about the pre-theater prix fixe when we made our reservation, and we certainly paid the price. First, it's expensive for what you get - options aren't what you want dining there. The appetizer course options include a tiny hummus plate and a salad? So, we opted for shrimp. What came was a sad bowl with 7 small oddly-textured shrimp drowned in oil. The mains were forgettable. Ordered a plate of fried artichokes for SEVENTEEN extra dollars, and instead of the ample plate from last time, it was a small dish with maybe 6 pieces? The waiter was disingenuous and oversolicitous, and tried hard to upsell us on the wine. Disappointing."

  • "We ate in Daniel Boulud's "Daniel" restaurant a few years ago and had the same delightful experience at Boulud Sud. The restaurant was decorated mid-century modern with a large seating capacity. The cocktails were divine so choose anyone that appeals to you. I had Cedar Grilled Rouget and my friend had another fish dish called day boat sea scallop paella. The food was delicious, artistically presented and melt in your mouth appeal. I had a chocolate dessert and my friend had the carrot cheesecake option. Just like "Daniel" this is a winner dining experience!!"

  • "This is a Great dining restaurant as are all of David boulud facility's . The pre theater dinner which on this night was required was reasonable for the items provided. The service was extraordinary as they seem to have more staff than customers , and I do not imply that the place was empty it was packed. I highly recommend the restaurant for patrons attending a Lincoln center performance as it is across the street."

  • "Boulud Sud is consistently good. Last Thursday's experience was a little marred b the presence of an NBA basketball star and an entourage of agents and hangers on. They settled on the back wall banquette and dragged bottles of obscenely expensive wine out of a bag they'd brought (do basketball stars really prefer the 1959 Montrachet Grand Cru to the house red?) while the waitstaff was forced to fawn on them and the chef to join in the festivities. We still enjoyed ourselves enormously and will certainly be back."

  • "Our food was excellent: we shared four dishes to start and they were all very good while the artichokes and anchovies were outstanding. Of the main dishes the daurade was particularly delicious, cooked to firm perfection with a crisp and tasty skin as an added frisson. Desserts lived up to expectation though the halva cotton candy on the grapefruit was not a great topping for an original dish. What stood out though was the service. Three out of four of us arrived late, for various reasons, but we were welcomed graciously, left to enjoy our champagne in peace, and treated with as much calm and courtesy as if we had arrived on time. Highly professional service with a warm and friendly touch."

  • "Boulle SUD has flash -- pretty plating, interesting , freshly conceived special daily menu items, and at the same an undercurrent of highly organized managerial values. So it's fun and inviting, but the iron hand of fierce organization gives the lie to the dynamism. It's a bureaucratic bias the reigns, hierarchical roles, an iron chair command-- all of which maintains quality, but at the expense of improvisation in the food itself, and the service. It's a machine, well run, but soulless."
